Captain Marvel punches a granny in first trailer and nobody can get over it

Marvel has dropped the first trailer for Captain Marvel and quite frankly, it’s a bit of a marvel.

We mean, who would have guessed that we’d see Captain Marvel punching a granny?

Elsewhere there’s our first glimpse of the Skrulls – a classic Marvel villain hell bent on invading Earth – as well as a young and cocky Nick Fury (minus the eye patch) and Jude Law’s Mar-Vell.

Brie Larson stars as Captain Marvel, real name Carol Danvers, in this first female-fronted film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

(It only took them 11 years…)

Carol ain’t here for people not offering their seats (Picture: Marvel)

And although the trailer is sure to give fans a lot to talk about, there may also be concerns as the trailer also gives away a lot.

We see a young Carol in various stages as her life, revealing this will be a true origin story, as well as fight scenes, her allegiance with S.H.I.E.L.D, her history with Mar-Vell plus the need for the film to have a climatic end sequence.

Brie Larson stars as Marvel (Picture: Marvel)

Details on the forthcoming female-fronted superhero film have been few and far between but viewers got their first teaser for the shiny new female superhero in a post-credits scene at the end of Avengers: Infinity back in April.

Although Brie wasn’t seen in character, it did show the Captain Marvel insignia, serving as a glimpse of the new chapter for the MCU.

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel will follow the story of Carol Danvers and will feature the Skrull as villains, and shapeshifting Marvel aliens. As for her superhero powers, Captain Marvel is able to fly, project and absorb energy, and also possesses superhuman strength, speed and durability.

The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

The history of Captain Marvel, or Ms Marvel as she is often known, is a long one going back six decades and with various incarnations.

The long-awaited movie version however will attempt to kick things off with an origin story revealing how Carol Danvers became Captain Marvel thanks to an explosion which infused her DNA with that of Kree-superhero Mar-Vell, confusingly also known Captain Marvel.

Jude Law will star as Mar-Vell but the casting of Lashana Lynch left fans wondering if she could also be playing a third Marvel. Perhaps Monica Rambeau?

Rambeau was a police lieutenant from New Orleans who possesses the power to transform herself into any form of energy. She later becomes a member of the Avengers, and at one point served as their leader. It’s not a stretch to imagine that Marvel may throw three Captain Marvel’s into one film especially with their propensity for adding in as many comic characters into their films as possible

The release of Captain Marvel in early 2019 will however kick start phase four of the MCU, of which Carol will be the new leader of; in June the studio shared a video package at CineEurope which revealed that the female superhero ‘is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe’.

Captain Marvel will hit cinemas on 8 March 2019.

After she raised eyebrows when she rapped about ‘loving coke’, Katie Price ‘won’t be heading to rehab’.

The mother-of-five was taped rapping about the illicit drug during a wild trip to Majorca last month, with the footage landing on the internet and showing the personality not in the best light.

It came as two her children, Junior, 13, and Princess, 11, continue to live with their father, Peter Andre, as Katie goes through another split with ex-husband Kieran Hayler.

Now, however, after her latest controversy, it’s been claimed the 40-year-old won’t be seeking treatment in light of the footage.

A source told The Sun, in regards to whether the mother will be getting help for sex or alcohol issues: ‘She’s not going to rehab’.

However this week behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings urged Katie to seek help.

‘Rather than trying to put a brave face on it, and mask the pain with drink, drugs and recklessness, she needs to let those feelings out candidly, accept that she’s in a bad place right now and let the people who really care help try to put her life back together,’ Jo told Star magazine.

She added: ‘With all that’s happening lately – from her mum being diagnosed with a terminal illness, to her rapid on-off relationship with Kris Boyson, her financial problems and having her ex-husbands – one of whom was a serial cheater – criticising her every move, especially in regard to her children, she is literally overwhelmed and this is making her behaviour reckless.’

The star was enjoying break in Majorca earlier this month, before she linked up with two men – known only as ‘Patrick and Lewis’ – at a hen do.

In a video that’s since emerged of their hotel room party, Katie poses with the boys, before rapping about ‘loving coke’ because it ‘gets her in the air’ before adding: ‘fuck my job in the media’.

It’s said she met the two German men in the Spanish party city on 29 August, around the time it was announced she’d split with boyfriend Kris Boyson, after several months of dating.

It was alleged the former glamour model went back with the men to ‘have a shower, get cosy and do drugs’, as she was pictured next to a bag of what appeared to be white powder on a table top, with various drug paraphernalia including snorting tubes, according to The Sun.

Then, in video obtained by the publication, Katie rapped about loving the illicit drug, as she wore denim shorts and a patterned top.

She sang: ‘Made me do a line but I don’t care, I love the coke, you know, it gets me in the air.’

Earlier this year it was alleged Katie had ‘taken cocaine’ in the wake of her split with Kieran, to ‘cope’ with the stress.

‘Her behaviour got a bit wild and she was boozing too much, and on a couple of occasions took cocaine,’ a pal alleged to The Sun in an earlier report. ‘The drug is obviously quite widespread in certain social circles and friends introduced her to it. She used it when she’d been drinking and it was her way of coping, to blot things out.’

Metro.co.uk contacted reps for comment.

Rob Delaney details son Henry’s battle with cancer in moving excerpt of book written before two-year-old’s death

Rob has written a moving piece about his son’s battle with cancer (Picture: Rob Delaney/Twitter, WireImage

Rob Delaney has shared an excerpt of the book he was writing before his two-year-old son Henry passed away.

Henry died in January after bravely battling cancer and a brain tumour.

While Henry was battling the disease, Catastrophe star was writing a book to help other parents of sick children through their journey; however, he stopped writing after they learned he would die from ‘the new, bad MRI’.

The 41-year-old shared an excerpt from his book proposal on Medium, and tweeted the link writing: ‘I hope this helps.’

The post starts with Rob describing taking Henry to the hospital in a taxi because he didn’t want to have to use a suction machine on his tracheotomy tube tube on the bus.

Rob wrote: ‘I may wish Henry wasn’t in the hospital and it may make me fucking sick that my kids haven’t lived under the same roof for over a year. But I’m always, always happy to enter the hospital every morning and see him. It’s exciting every dayto walk into his room and see him and see him see me. The surgery to remove his tumor left him with Bell’s palsy on the left side of his face, so it’s slack and droops. His left eye is turned inward too, due to nerve damage. But the right side of his face is incredibly expressive, and that side brightens right up when I walk into the room.

‘There’s no doubt about what kind of mood he’s in, ever. It’s particularly precious when he’s angry because seeing the contrast between a toddler’s naked rage in one half of his face and an utterly placid chubby chipmunk cheek and wandering eye in the other is shocking in a way that makes me and my wife and whatever combination of nurses and/or doctors are in the room laugh every time. And when he smiles, forget about it. A regular baby’s smile is wonderful enough. When a sick baby with partial facial paralysis smiles, it’s golden. Especially if it’s my baby.’

After the surgery to remove Henry’s tumour, he was left deaf in one ear, with Bell’s palsy, a lazy left eye, and without the ability to swallow due to nerve damage.

Rob wrote: ‘Henry’s tracheotomy tube prevents him from speaking, so I haven’t heard him make a peep for over a year. My wife recently walked in on me crying and listening to recordings of him babbling, from before his diagnosis and surgery. I’d recorded his brothers doing Alan Partridge impressions and Henry was in the background, probably playing with the dishwasher, and just talking to himself, in fluent baby.

‘Fucking music, oh my God I want to hear him again. Now he has a foam-cuffed tracheotomy tube in his beautiful throat, rendering him mute.’

Delaney – who has two other sons and is expecting another baby with his wife Leah – finished his piece, which was written in summer 2017, with a new paragraph, explaining that he hoped the excerpt would let other struggling parents know they were understood.

Friends and fans thanked Rob for sharing the piece, including Edith Bowman, who tweeted: ‘So much love to you and your family’, and Al Murray, who replied: ‘Thanks for this Rob.’

After Henry’s death, Rob asked followers to donate in Henry’s name to the Rainbow Trust and Noah’s Ark Hospice.

Roxanne Pallett hasn’t ‘recognised what she’s done’ after CBB ‘punchgate’, claims Sally Morgan

Celebrity Big Brother’s Sally Morgan has suggested that Roxanne Pallett has not yet ‘recognised what she’s done’ following the controversial allegations she made towards Ryan Thomas.

Roxanne falsely accused Ryan of punching her ‘repeatedly’ and the claims spread around the house, before Big Brother reminded housemates that if Ryan had assaulted a housemate he would have been removed.

Roxanne later left the house and made several TV appearances in which she admitted she regretted her actions, but Sally has now suggested that Roxanne ‘hasn’t recognised’ the severity of what she did.

‘I have three daughters, and it felt like I had a son,’ Sally said of her relationship with Ryan, ‘he is young and has his whole life and career, and she could have ruined it.’

‘Seriously, I want her to get help. I feel that k she desperately needs help. But like anyone with issues like she obviously has, she has to want help. AT the moment, looking at interviews [she has done] I have a sense she hasn’t recognised what she’s done.’

‘She is at the beginning of a long road of getting better,’ added Sally.

Ryan received an outstanding level of support from the public, while Roxanne was labelled a ‘liar’, ‘manipulative’ and ‘evil’, with many of her former colleagues coming forward with their own tales claiming Roxanne had treated them similarly to how she did Ryan.

The former Emmerdale actress apologised twice on national TV for her behaviour; during her appearance on Jeremy Vine, Roxanne apologised to Ryan and ‘every single person who watched that’, admitting she ‘got it wrong’.

In the weeks after the event, Roxanne stepped down indefinitely from her position as a DJ on radio programme Minster FM

She was also due to appear as Cinderella in pantomime this festive season, but she has pulled out of this role too.

Big Brother finds its villain in Anamelia as she leaves Zoe in tears

Anamelia Silva is fast creating the most friction in the Big Brother house.

In tonight’s episode, the Brazilian spiritual advisor leaves Zoe in tears and Lewis F fuming after rubbing them up the wrong way.

Zoe cries on Lewis’ shoulder after thinking that Anamelia was telling people ‘you can’t trust Zoe, she’s a two-faced bitch, she’s shit-stirring’.

The carer says: ‘And she said “no, because I don’t do that”. For me, it was like she was insinuating that I do do that.

‘I now feel that I can’t speak to anyone about my feelings.’

As Zoe burst into tears, Lewis – who is hardly Anamelia’s biggest fan – says: ‘She’s a manipulator, she’s trying to make you feel bad because you disturbed something she was trying to do.’

He added: ‘She might be narcissitic, she has no remorse.’

And things get even worse as Lewis gets increasingly wound up by Anamelia’s chanting of her own name.

(In fairness, we kind of see his point.)

‘I can’t listen to that anymore,’ he moans. ‘Is this a big test? Is everyone singing it to wind me up? Is everyone doing it on purpose to piss me off?

‘She gets paid enough attention as it is, do we have to give her any more?’

Celebrity Big Brother continues at 9pm on Channel 5.

What time is The Circle on tonight, what is it about and who are the contestants?

$

Alice Levine and Maya Jama are your hosts for The Circle (Picture: Channel 4)

The Circle is the brand new reality show like no other, sure to lay bare just how far our reliance and obsession on social media has come.

Channel 4’s innovative reality TV offering asks whether the impression we create of ourselves online really does mirror who we are in reality.

We could say we’re a 22-year-old single, red-headed air hostess, but are we really a 37-year-old blonde legal secretary? That’s the point of this show: can you trust what you ‘like’? Are you really on a deserted, blissful beach in Mauritius, or did you crop everyone out of the shot in Cornwall?

The Circle contestants are given the chance of playing the game as themselves or with a profile they’ve imagined – it’s the ultimate personality test.

It’s a clever comment on social media and the risks involved – both based on trust and how fixated people can become with creating the perfect ‘Insta’ image.

What time is The Circle on tonight?

The series kicks off tonight, on Tuesday 18 September, on Channel 4 at 9.15pm with a one-hour episode.

It will then air every day at 10pm, apart from on Saturdays when it takes a break. The series lasts for three weeks.

The Circle kicks off on Tuesday night (Picture: Channel 4)

How does The Circle work?

The format has a kind of Big Brother feel to it, only with a twist – with the action centring round a block of flats all the contestants will be moving into for the next three weeks.

The twist is that they’ll all be staying in separate apartments – and they’ll only get to communicate with each other online, via the titular Circle – a social media platform specially created for the purposes of the show.

And how the contestants perceive each other will depend entirely on how they’ve chosen to portray themselves online – whether they are themselves, or whether they present a different version of who they truly are.

Who is hosting the show?

The series is being hosted by Maya Jama and Alice Levine – and you can also keep up with the goings-on via social media (well of course you can given that’s what the show is about) – with official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Alice Levine and Maya Jama will host The Circle (Picture: Channel 4)

Will the contestants ever get to meet?

They will but only after contestants have been eliminated from the show.

Contestants will be eliminated if they are blocked by another person – at which point they will get to find out whether that person was true to themselves online or pretending to be something they weren’t.

Meet the contestants

Eight brave hopefuls complete the contestant line-up for this very timely reality show. Without further ado, meet The Circle contestants…

NAME: AIDEN

AGE: 19

Aiden
Aiden (Picture: Channel 4)

FROM: WAKEFIELD

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: SINGLE

PLAYING AS: HERSELF

Aiden
Aiden will be using this as her profile picture for the game (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Aiden works in a call centre by day and is “Wakefield’s favourite” shot girl by night. She’s an up and coming Insta queen who wears her heart on her sleeve, is very trusting and gives everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Strategy: Aiden plans to play the game just as she plays out her life on social media – with the perfect pout and the perfect banter. She feels she doesn’t need to change her looks or her personality because she’s already the social media real deal.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: Oh my gosh, Beefa! I’d go on holiday. I’d get an expensive weave. Superficial things. But I’d never get cosmetic surgery because I’ve got a massive phobia of pain and needles.

NAME: ALEX

AGE: 26

Alex
Alex (Picture: Channel 5)

FROM: LONDON

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: GIRLFRIEND OF TWO YEARS

PLAYING AS: KATE

Alex (Kate)
Alex will be using a photo of his girlfriend Kate as his profile picture (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Alex carved out his early career as one of the content producers for UNILAD and worked his way up through social marketing before launching his own comedy and memes account. He has 400k+ fans globally across different platforms.

Strategy: Alex wasn’t very popular at school and so has decided to play the game using the photos of someone he thinks has the potential to be even more likeable than he is – his girlfriend. In The Circle he plans to flirt with the boys and befriend the girls in a bid to be most popular. Alex isn’t new to the concept of being “catfished” – he was prey to a catfish in his very own Tinder nightmare when he had been messaging a 25-year-old, petite Canadian blonde called Taylor – only to turn up to a date to find out Taylor was actually an older man.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: Use it to kickstart my business and my creativity. Or buy something stupidly extravagant, like a flying car.

NAME: DAN

AGE: 28

Dan
Dan (Picture: Channel 4)

FROM: LONDON

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: SINGLE

PLAYING AS: HIMSELF

Dan
Dan will be using a photo of himself as his profile picture (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Dan is a former estate agent who prides himself on his charming sales skills. He describes himself as ambitious, honest, impatient, caring and loyal. Dan is a natural flirt who is single and looking for the one to settle down with.

Strategy: Dan thinks that everyone on social media is selling themselves, so as the ultimate salesmen he believes he has a huge advantage in the game. He’s hoping his sales skills and subtle manipulating will get everyone on side.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: I’d pay off all my debts. I’d go on holiday with a selected female. The rest would probably go on a deposit for a house. Sounds sensible, doesn’t it? In reality, I’d probably end up spending the whole lot on nothing! But even if there was no prize money, I’d still want to do this because it’s a challenge and it’s new. New is always fun – that could be my life motto or on my gravestone.

NAME: FREDDIE

AGE: 20

Freddie
Freddie (Picture: Channel 4)

FROM: ESSEX

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: SINGLE

PLAYING AS: HIMSELF, BUT PLAYING IT STRAIGHT

Freddie
Freddie will be himself – but straight – in his profile (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Freddie is an energetic, loud and straight-talking call centre worker from Essex. He’s openly gay and has a habit of going after straight guys – he always wants what he can’t have

Strategy: Freddie will be “playing it straight”- using his own profile photos and being himself, with the exception that he is changing his sexuality. The biggest challenge for Freddie will be if there’s a sexy man in The Circle and he blows his own cover.
What

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: If I won the fifty grand I would definitely be sensible, I would want to bring something out like a clothing line. I love clothes, fashion is my passion, it’s an industry that I would definitely like to work in. I would want to go on holiday with my family and on holiday with my friends. I’d also like to get my teeth done, I’d fly out to Turkey to get a couple of veneers; they’re half the price there!

NAME: GENELLE

AGE: 31

Genelle
Genelle (Picture: Channel 4)

FROM: LONDON

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: SINGLE

PLAYING AS: HERSELF, BUT NOT REVEALING ALL

Genelle
Genelle will be herself but she won’t be revealing that she’s a mum (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Genelle is a stay-at-home mum to her 6-month-old daughter, Santanna. Since becoming a mum, Genelle believes that her social life has shrunk and has found social media has become a great way to stay connected.

Strategy: Genelle will be moving into her apartment with her baby. But she won’t be telling any of the other players that she’s got a child with her. In fact she isn’t even going to tell them she’s a mum, because thinks other people may assume her life is a bit boring. Genelle is pan-sexual and that’s something she won’t be holding back in The Circle.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: It would provide security for me and my daughter, meaning I can afford good nursery care when I go to back to work. I might do a bit of body editing: maybe a breast lift and some liposuction because I’ve put on weight since having a child.

NAME: JENNIFER

AGE: 40

Jennifer
Jennifer (Picture: Channel 4).

FROM: NEWCASTLE

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: MARRIED

PLAYING AS: A DOCTOR

Jennifer
Jennifer will pretend to be a younger doctor on her profile (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: 40-year-old Jennifer is the MD of a Google Analytics company that uses data harvested online to work out how to sell her clients products to people. She is married with 6-year-old twins.

Strategy: She wants to use The Circle to prove how fake the online world is and win by posing as someone completely different. Jennifer believes she can create a profile people will have no choice but to trust, by posing as a doctor. She’ll feed the egos of her fellow players and manipulate her way to victory.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: My daughters want Barbie dolls. But mainly I’ll invest it in my business and the young people who work with me. We’d probably hire more people and move to new premises.

NAME: MITCHELL

AGE: 22

Mitchell
Mitchell (Picture: Channel 4)

FROM: NORFOLK

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: SINGLE

PLAYING AS: HIMSELF

Mitchell
Mitchell will be playing himself in the game (Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Mitchell is a bar supervisor from Norfolk. He’s the self-proclaimed ‘King of Tinder’ and the ultimate lad. He absolutely loves the ladies, but there’s no-one he’d rather spend time with than his beloved mum.

Strategy: Mitchell is going to be totally himself in The Circle. He’ll be building bromances with the boys and grafting all the girls in order to get everyone on side. He loves a cheeky sext, but only the lucky ones will receive one of his infamous 360’ dick pics.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: Ten grand would go to my mum, ten grand would go on a holiday to Vegas with my mates and thirty grand would go into starting my own business – a bar or a gym.

NAME: SIAN

AGE: 20

Sian
Sian (Picture: Channel 4)

FROM: LONDON

RELATIONSHIP STATUS: SINGLE

PLAYING AS: “PLAIN JANE” VERSION OF HERSELF

Sian
(Picture: Channel 4)

In a nutshell: Sian is a fun-loving, fashion student whose modelling career took off when she started posting pictures online. She has a background in athletics and is super competitive – she hates to lose at anything.

Strategy: Sian will be using her own photos in The Circle but dressing them down – nothing glam like her normal Insta feed. She wants to appear approachable, but loves a flirt and can be a chameleon, so will be using that as part of her game plan too.

How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?: I’m still studying fashion at uni but I want to have my own fashion brand and be a businesswoman. It’s hard to find the capital, so I’d invest it. I’d definitely do something intelligent with it. There’s no way I’d just spend it on some Louboutins and a new Range Rover.

Did Netflix just kill off The Defenders by repurposing its Facebook page for a new service? Marvel fans seem to think so

Is the death of The Defenders Facebook page the first sign of the show being axed? (Picture: Netflix)

There are all kinds of theories and conspiracies going around all the time about any and all our favourite shows.

But it looks as though one theory that was hatched after the disappointing first of The Defenders may just be coming true.

A number of fans were sure that the show would only get one season with the Marvel miniverse going merrily on its way with the New York superhero team simply doing crossovers in each series when needed.

But it almost like those people were predicting the future as Netlfix have mysteriously taken down the show’s Facebook page.

Netflix just wiped The Defenders Facebook page and made it their NX one ??? Marvel fans are furious and thinking it???s the first casualty in the MCU miniverse Credit: Netflix
Many thought the first series was lackluster and that the Defenders would just crossover into each others solo shows following their introduction (Picture: Netflix)

Simply erasing every single facet of The Defenders from their own page the streaming service’s new Sci-fi and Fantasy online outpost NX set up camp there.

Literally just doing this with no warning, they updated the cover photo, profile picture and other such things on Thursday evening. ‘Multiple universes, one home,’ read the strapline.

That wasn’t enough explanation for fans of the show, however, who quickly asked if this was the end of the Defenders.

The Defenders' facebook is no more (Picture: Facebook)
The Defenders’ Facebook is no more as Netflix have repurposed it for their NX imprint (Picture: Facebook)

‘So, no more Defenders?’ asked one fan, while another asked: ‘If this isn’t related to marvel defenders, it is really stupid and low point to use the page of what it used to be, to promote something new, why dont make a new page for whatever this is?’

Another added: ‘Some advice you should probably let people know what you’re doing ahead of time because it’s therapeutic refreshing and watching the follower count drop by the thousands in less than 2 minutes.’

As it is, no word on the Defender yet. They still have their own official Twitter page, as does NX.

You can catch the entire first series of The Defenders on Netflix now.

When people are making a list of gaming’s great multiplayer titles Mario Party is often nowhere to be seen, and we do think that is a little unfair. More so than Mario Kart, Overcooked, or any of the more obvious picks it is always our number one choice of game to play with a mix of hardcore, casual, and non-gamers. Anyone can play it and everyone can enjoy it, but one of the main problems is the extreme variation in quality between all the different sequels – and the fact that we haven’t had a good one for a long while now. Thankfully, Super Mario Party looks set to reverse that tide.

Nintendo have never believed in yearly sequels, and most of their big franchises are only seen once or twice on each console. Mario Party has, for no obvious reason, always been an exception to that rule and right from the earliest N64 days Nintendo (or rather Bomberman creators Hudson) were knocking out new sequels every 12 months. That pace has slowed down more recently and surprisingly Nintendo struggled to make the franchise a success on the Wii, especially after becoming distracted with dumbed down spin-off Wii Party.

But Super Mario Party is essentially a reboot, going back to the roots of the series and throwing out most of the overcomplications and gimmicks of more recent entries. Taking the franchise so seriously might seem slightly absurd, but when Mario Party is good it’s great and that’s exactly what this appears to be.

If you’re not familiar with Mario Party then the idea is very simple. They’re essentially old school board games, where various of the Mushroom Kingdom crew are used as counters and you move around the board according to the roll of a die. There’s not a single goal, but instead you’re trying to collect stars which move position each time someone gets a new one. Stars need to be paid for with coins though and these are primarily earned via mini-games that take place at the end of each round – the colour of space you’re standing on determining whether they’re 3 vs. 1, 2 vs. 1, or free-for-all.

The last few Mario Party games got the idea into their head that characters shouldn’t move around independently and instead sat them all in a car going round the board at the same time. This idea has thankfully been abandoned and instead you’re back to navigating on your own, trying to avoid obstacles such as a giant blooper (squid) and collapsing sand bridge (the board we played on had a beach and fruit motif).

You can still buy power-up items as you move around the board, but the opportunities are rarer and their effects seem more minor – the most useful we got simply teleported you straight to the star. There are also some new features not seen in the series before, with each character having a second die with special attributes such as only rolling a 3 or a 4 (Daisy) or going up to 10 but having a potential penalty of two coins (Wario). This can be used in conjunction with an ally, which you pick up by landing on a certain space and allows you to use their special die as well.

Super Mario Party - this mini-game is harder than it looks
Super Mario Party – this mini-game is harder than it looks

The board game element is amusing but it’s really just used to give context for the mini-games, which regardless of the rest of game’s history have almost always been good. There’s roughly 80 in the new game and while there’s bound to be some stinkers we didn’t come across any. Some are fairly basic, such as counting the number of toads on screen or being the first to push up, down, left, or right when a heart sign appears on-screen (bizarrely framed as a quest for love at a gym) but because you’re competing against others, and everything only lasts around 60 seconds max, there’s always a manic energy to it.

Other, slightly more involved, mini-games include a tricycle race where you have to spin the pedals with the analogue controller, cooking a cube of steak by tipping the frying pan, and games that use standard platform type controls as you try to avoid being caught by a host of pursuing ghosts (while trying to knock opponents into their path, of course) or transporting a bomb across narrow walkways in a bomb disposal relay.

That still probably doesn’t sound very exciting but the fun of Mario Party comes from the social experience of being with other people in the same room – and trying your level best to cheat as much as possible.

Away from the board there are various alternative modes, many of which are brand new for Super Mario Party. River Survival, for example, is a co-op mode where two teams have to paddle along a branching river completing mini-games if you hit tokens along the way. As in all the team games you get a little bonus if you do a high five with the Joy-Con motion controls, which may sound like nothing but never failed to make us laugh as everyone screamed at the one person that had forgotten to do it before they missed their chance.

You may also have seen the mode where two Switch screens can be placed together to make a bigger screen, but this turns out to be for only a small number of separate mini-games. There’s a top-down tank game where you can rearrange the map depending on how you place the screens next to each other and a mini-game where you’re trying to connect bananas, as if matching the pattern on wallpaper. It’s all very clever from a technical perspective but the novelty wears off in minutes.

The main game though we thoroughly enjoyed. Super Mario Party might not be the Zelda-sized blockbuster some would have hoped for at Christmas, but while Super Smash Bros. has a learning curve that can put off many potential players Mario Party really is for everyone. One thing’s for sure it’s definitely a whole lot more fun than the traditional family game of Monopoly at Christmas.

The Great British Bake Off (2018) Episode 3 - Kim-Joy baking
Kim-Joy has been a hit with Bake Off viewers so far (Picture: Channel 4)

The Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesday night and Kim-Joy will be hoping to take one step closer to winning the ever-popular series.

This is the fourth week of the latest series and there are now just nine bakers left after Antony was shown the door of the tent during bread week.

Kim-Joy has divided opinion amongst Bake Off viewers this year, with her cat-themed creations and her colourful stylings gaining fans and haters.

Here is what we know about the Bake Off star who is causing a stir this series…

Kim-Joy is yet to be star baker (Picture: Channel 4)

Kim-Joy is 27-years old and lives in Leeds, working as a mental health specialist.

However, her background is elsewhere, having grown up in London and studying in Bristol before settling in West Yorkshire.

The baker was born in Belgium before moving to the UK to her English father and Malaysian-Chinese mother.

At the start of the show, Kim-Joy said: ‘None of my family really bake, it’s just me that bakes. My friends have always wanted me to apply, but I didn’t feel confident enough to apply until this year. I went into the tent mostly for myself to see if I could do it!’

Kim-Joy’s Bake Off journey continues on Tuesday night (Picture: Getty)

How has Kim-Joy performed so far?

Despite causing a bit of a reaction amongst Bake Off fans, Kim-Joy has not really stood out for her baking in a positive or negative way thus far.

In three weeks she has not been Star Baker, nor has she been considered for it. However, she has avoided elimination and has not even been considered for that either.

Although, last week’s technical did not go well for Kim-Joy as she placed last in making the non-yeasted garlic naan breads.

The Great British Bake Off continues at 8pm every Tuesday on Channel 4

A man who uploaded Deadpool to Facebook faces six months in prison.

Trevon Maurice Franklin, a 22-year-old from Fresno, California, is accused of sharing the Ryan Reynolds blockbuster on a Facebook account under the name Tre-Von M. King.

The film was shared on the account days after Deadpool’s release in February 2016.

Following an FBI investigation, Franklin was arrested in California last June.

According to court documents, the comic book movie, which is copyrighted by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp, was viewed 6,386,456 via the Facebook page.

Franklin had downloaded Deadpool from Putlocker.is, and allegedly insisted that he wouldn’t be punished after Facebook users told him his posting was illegal.

The sentencing position filed on 12 September claims that Franklin wrote: ‘I got the ultimate way out of this, yall might be surprised on how I won’t go to jail but just become more famous’, while another post read: ‘I’m just sitting back smoking out my bong laughing at these mfs who think they know what they talking I haven’t sold shit to anyone, or made copies.’

Franklin allegedly went on to create a Facebook group called Bootleg Movies and told people that he’d post more films soon.

The sentencing position reads: ‘The government recommends the high-end sentence of six months’ imprisonment, to be followed by a one-year term of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment of $100.’

This comes after Franklin made a plea agreement in May, pleading guilty in exchange for authorities agreeing to recommending a reduced sentence.

Originally, he faced a maximum of three years in prison.

Netflix’s latest horror flick, made by ‘the Welsh Tarantino’ is already shaping up as terrifying classic

Netflix has released a trailer for its latest horror film, Apostle, which is already serving up a whole heap of terrified nopes from punters.

The movie was filmed around south Wales and stars Michael Sheen as a cult priest (what could possibly go worng?) alongside Downton Abbey and Beauty And The Beast actor Dan Stevens, and Keeping Faith’s Mark Lewis Jones.

Without even watching the whole thing, the trailer is already stupidly terrifying and gruesome, with hand-drills and skulls, fingers and turning cogs and delightful corpses impaled on tree branches.

Apostle
Nope (Picture: NETFLIX)

Made by director Gareth Evans, who is well known for his cult action films, The Raid and The Raid 2, doesn’t his latest efforts to make us revisit breakfast sound like a lovely romp to watch with your sweetheart?

*record rip*

This is NOT for the faint of heart.

Apostle
Michael is one terrifying pastor (Picture: NETFLIX)

Based in the early 1900s, it follows the story of a bloody cult that abducts people in the name of religion.

Dan plays the protagonist, Thomas Richardson, who infiltrates the group in search of his sister who has been kidnapped.

As you can clearly see from the released footage, his plan is marred by a whole bunch of violent happenings as Michael Sheen promises ‘paradise’ to his followers.

However, the scenery is pretty exquisite, if you’re into looking at picturesque landscapes while people get their heads beaten in.

It’s said an entire village set was built at Margam Park in Wales, with viewers of the trailer, brave as they may be, treated to a swooping view of Pontsticill Reservoir, in Merthyr Tydfil.

Watch at your own risk.

Sleep sweet, guys.

Apostle is in cinemas 12 October.

Ruby Allen in EastEnders returns
(Picture: BBC)

There’s a familiar face in EastEnders tonight as Stacey Fowler is reunited with her old pal Ruby Allen after over 10 years. The pair last saw each other in 2006 but Ruby arrives back as part of her work and texts Stacey to meet up with her.

The see one another at E20 and are soon catching up over cocktails, updating one another on everything that has changed – which is a LOT for Stacey – and reminiscing about the past. But Louisa Lytton’s return to the show comes as part of a serious storyline that will play out next month.

After heading off with some guys during a night out, Ruby will tell Stacey that she has been raped but her attacker paints a very different picture of what happened, leaving Ruby to fear that she won’t be believed and won’t get justice.

Ruby returns in EastEnders
(Picture: BBC)

Speaking about taking on the story, Louisa said: ‘As someone that has been part of EastEnders before, and as a viewer of the show, I know the impact a storyline such as this can have and although it is a huge responsibility, I feel honoured to be part of something that, by working alongside Rape Crisis, we all hope can help end the many misconceptions surrounding sexual violence.’

Show boss John Yorke shared: ‘From the original story of Kathy and Willmott-Brown, to the abuse of Little Mo by her husband, Trevor, and Linda’s attack by Dean, EastEnders has always been at the forefront of dealing with these topical and sensitive issues. While this story centres round an unseen rape, its real focus will challenge the stereotyping and myths that can surround sexual violence and consent. As a subject, it’s difficult and incredibly moving but we hope that by EastEnders tackling this issue we can raise awareness about an incredibly important issue.’

The show are working with Rape Crisis on the episodes. Yvonne Traynor, CEO Rape Crisis South London said: ‘It is so vital to the safety of men, women and children to understand sexual violence and not to make assumptions or believe the myths and stereotypes that are often portrayed. EastEnders have taken this responsibility very seriously and ensured that their portrayal of sexual violence has been thoroughly researched and is based on realism which is, sadly, so prevalent in our country today.’

EastEnders airs Ruby’s return on Tuesday 18th September at 7:30pm on BBC One.

Katie Price house fire ’caused by cheap scented candles in son Jett’s bedroom’

Katie Price apparently lit cheap candles (Picture: ITV)

Katie Price’s mansion is said to have been ravaged by fire started by scented candles.

It was claimed that the star was left terrified when a fire broke out in five-year-old Jett’s bedroom, which allegedly caused thousands of pounds worth of damage, but was thankfully contained by Katie’s dad Paul.

It has now emerged that the fire may have started from some cheap scented candles.

A source told The Sun: ‘The fire started from her using candles – to save on electricity. She’s been telling people it’s for ambience, and since coming back from Spain, she’s become more bohemian, but it’s because she can’t afford her electricity bill!’

They added: ‘She’d bought cheap scented candles for her house in a bid to save money on lights and mask the smell of animals – cat piss to be precise.’

Thankfully the fire was put out quickly (Picture: ITV)

The source also alleged that the danger occurred when the candles were lit without having the wicks shortened as per instructions, causing a spark to fly out, and that the damage may have dropped the value of the property by up to a quarter of a million.

Given that she’s struggling financially as of late, Katie will reportedly now struggle to repair the damage.

The 40-year-old is currently staring down the barrel of bankruptcy, allegedly with just six weeks to come up with a chunk of money to save herself.

It’s been claimed she’s bought herself a motor-home as a back up plan should she be left homeless, which is now sat on her driveway of the £2million home.

Her woes continue, as the mum-of-five was recently filmed rapping about cocaine by someone she’d met on a night out in Majorca. It’s thought, however, that she will not be heading to rehab for sex and alcohol issues.

Strictly added paratriathlete Lauren Steadman as the 13th contestant to join the bill!

When asked who’d be the most surprised, she said: ‘I think it’s a tie between my sister and my great grandma. They have no idea.’

Lauren added: ‘I still don’t think it has properly sunk in that I’m actually going to be part of this year’s Strictly. I have loved the show since I was young, and it’s a huge thing to tick off my bucket list. I’m more nervous about being on stage, performing live and in front of the judges than I am about the Elite Paratriathlon Grand Final next month.’

‘He’s the most human character’: Bryce Dallas Howard defends Star-Lord’s actions in Infinity War

Don’t hate on Star-Lord, guys (Picture: Marvel)

We were experiencing all sorts of feelings at the end of Avengers: Infinity War – although many of them were a range of heartbreak and wild frustration at waiting another year for an explanation.

But one of the feelings encompassing many viewers was anger towards Star-Lord.

Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy nearly get the Infinity Gauntlet and its stones away from Thanos, but after learning that he was the one to kill Gamora, Star-Lord loses it and ruins the plan – leading to Thanos acquiring the Time Stone, snapping his fingers and casually obliterating half the universe.

But while many people reckon that it was Peter Quill’s fault that half the universe’s population turned to dust, he has one person on his side, at least.

Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt

Bryce Dallas Howard, who stars alongside Chris Pratt (who plays Star-Lord) in Jurassic World, reckons it was all Thanos’s fault, and thinks we should all have some sympathy for Quill.

The actress, who plays Claire Dearing in the Jurassic World franchise, told ComicBook: ‘Well, here’s what I though – I thought that it was a good story, well told. He’s the most human character. He’s half human and that spoke to his humanity in that moment.

‘I think it is important that everyone realize that it was Thanos who did it. It was Thanos!’

Bryce isn’t the only person standing in Quill’s corner.

Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo defended Star-Lord, saying he made an emotional decision due to the tragedies in his past.

They also pointed out that if we’re to get mad at anybody – get mad at Thor.

Speaking to Huffington Post, Anthony said: ‘Thor also let his emotions get the better of him. Thor could’ve killed Thanos more quickly than he tried to with the ax. He showed up, and he took a moment — because of his anger, because of his motivation — to tell Thanos that he told him he would die … and finish him off in a very deliberate way.

‘Thor sort of got lost in his emotions in a similar way as Star-Lord and could also have been responsible for Thanos.’

Star-Lord was one of the superheroes clicked into nothingness by Thanos, but we reckon we’ll get to see him again – with a popular theory predicting time-travel (by way of Captain Marvel) will bring our favourite heroes back to life in Avengers 4.

Big Brother viewers call for Anamelia Silva to be booted out after showdown with Kay Lovelle

Big Brother’s Anamelia Silva is facing growing calls from viewers to get her out of the house after a row with Kay Lovelle.

Kay asked spiritualist Anamelia to tone down her behaviour, causing Anamelia to snap at her.

The ladies were talking in the bedroom after a task in which housemates had try to hold up a pile of big coins for the longest time.

In Monday night’s episode, Kay took Anamelia to one side in the bedroom to clear the air after Anamelia became very competitive during the task.

She said: ‘I just felt again, that I don’t want to be worried about what I say to you.’

Anamelia said: ‘When are competing I’m going to be this way. Under competition something happens in your mind, you’re gonna be that way. In that case you must respect me that that’s how I am during competition.’

Kay said she felt she had to watch what she said to Anamelia (Picture: Channel 5)

‘Nobody else was being like that with partner,’ Kay replied, ‘I find it could be intimidating and jarring. I can’t imagine having that with someone else.’

‘You’re asking a lot from me. At the end of the day I could have stood there all night, but you can’t ask me to compromise and think about everything I’m saying during a competition that isn’t only mentally straining but physically straining as well.’

‘It’s a competition. That doesn’t mean that we get rude to each other,’ Kay replied.

A frustrated Anamelia shouted: ‘I wasn’t rude to you Kay. God made me this way. God made me full of passion.

‘If you don’t like that, you don’t have to be around me. She’s asking me to change.

‘I’m not used to people like you.’

She added: ‘I’ve apologised, I’ve respected it. The one thing I’m not gonna do is change.’

Viewers were definitely Team Kay on this one, with one person tweeting: ‘I thought I was argumentative…. but then I’ve seen Anamelia and I realise… I am not! That girl needs to stop ramming her views down peoples necks!!’

‘Anamelia needs to tone down the self importance by roughly 100%’ another said.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘For someone who goes on about positivity, Anamelia brings a lot of negativity to the house.’

‘#Anamelia needs to go,’ read another comment.

Anamelia becomes public enemy number one yet again in scenes to air tonight, after leaving Zoe in tears and Lewis F raging after rubbing them up the wrong way.

Big Brother continues tonight at 10.15pm on Channel 5

What do The Great British Bake Off winners get and who won the last series?

The Great British Bake Off’s past winners Sophie Faldo, Nadiya Hussain and Candice Brown (Picture: BBC/Channel 4)

To win The Great British Bake Off is no mean feat as it means you’ve survived weeks in that famous, sweltering white tent, not to mention the scrutiny of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

So if you’re lucky enough to whip your way to victory on GBBO, what exactly do you get, other then good British pride?

Well, it turns out that after mixing, whisking, melting, setting, mixing, whipping, blending, battering, kneading moulding, decorating, painting and sweating their best creations out, the winner doesn’t get all that much.

You would think for the weeks of trial and tribulations the baker who comes out as the cherry on top will be looking down an icing funnel of prize money and spin-off baking shows – but no.

After competing to get a post amongst the 12 Bake Off contestants, and spending weeks on end shaking through the tent of technicals, the best baker is awarded a cake stand. Oh, and some flowers and a Paul Hollywood handshake.

There is no big prize fund for the winner and no alluring £100,000 to help them set up the bakery of their dreams – just the joy of baking and winning the series.

So, what the winner does after leaving the tent is up to them and to really make their title matter, they need to get straight to work.

Great British Bake Off past winners

Series 1 (2010) Edd Kimber
Series 2 (2011) Joanne Wheatley
Series 3 (2012) John Whaite
Series 4 (2013) Frances Quinn
Series 5 (2014) Nancy Birtwhistle
Series 6 (2015) Nadiya Hussain
Series 7 (2016) Candice Brown
Series 8 (2017) Sophie Faldo
Series 9 (2018) TBA

Of course what they may lack in prizes they gain in exposure.

The first winner of The Great British Bake Off was Edd Kimber who was exposed to an audience of nearly three million in the first series on BBC.

Edd went to work at Raymond Blanc’s famous pastry kitchen after winning the first Bake Off series.

Who will Paul and Prue choose to be the winner? (Picture: Channel 4)

In the early series of the show, there wasn’t much laid out for the winners of the show – no automatic book signing or TV gigs lined up.

Kimber’s debut book made him £150,000, and his further two publications earned £100,000 on top of that, although the baker only took a £37,500 cut.

Former Bake Off judge Mary Berry and series six winner Nadiya Hussain (Picture: Getty)

The most successful winner of the series is undoubtedly Nadiya Hussain who came away with the series six title.

Since Nadiya won in 2015 she has become a global sensation.

She’s written a bestselling cookery book, has two columns in national magazines and newspapers, is a guest presenter on Loose Women, and was selected to bake Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday cake when the monarch turned 90.

Nadiya also has a new TV show about to hit, which will only increase her popularity.

Many of the winners can only dream of replicating Nadiya’s almost million-pound success.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays on Channel 4 at 8pm.

The Great British Bake Off 2018 contestants

Terry

Terry learned to bake from his family (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 56

Job: Retired Air Steward

Terry has a background as a prosthetic technician and also has his own microbrewery and allotment. He learned to bake from his grandmother, while his dad taught him how to bake bread and make pastry when he was 10 years old.

What would you make if you had to make an illusion cake?

'I have made a few illusion cakes in the past, and it would depend on the occasion.  I would like to make an inlaid wooden box, like a jewellery box, inspired by my love of carpentry.  The inspiration would be my love of antiques, I collect a lot of junk!   It would be made of fondant and royal icing that is hand coloured and painted.'

If you had to invent a new crisp flavour what would it be?

'I think it would have to be black pudding, because of all the flavours and spices.'

Antony - SENT HOME IN WEEK 3

Antony is the 'bollywood baker' (Picture: Mark Bourdillon/Love Productions/Channel 4)

Age: 30

Job: Banker

Describing himself as the ‘Bollywood baker’, Antony grew up in India and now lives in London – having learnt to bake from his father.

What illusion cake would you make given the chance?

'I think I would re-create the glorious Himalayan Mountains with a light pistachio sponge, sugar paste and snow peaks in smooth silky swiss meringue buttercream.'

Who would be the most surprised you’ve entered Bake Off?

'All of my friends back home in India will be really surprised.  They have known me to be a singer in a choir, a two piece band but never as a baker, so it will be interesting to see their reaction.'

Briony

Briony was inspired by her Nan (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 33

Job: Full-time Parent

Born and raised in Bristol, Briony was inspired by her Nan to become a baker. She self-taught herself the ropes via YouTube tutorials and is a whizz with puff pastry.

What illusion cake would you make?

'A bouquet of flowers in a decorative vase. Made from fondant and buttercreams, and 12 red roses.'

Who will be most surprised to find out you’ve applied for Bake Off?

'My uni friends I think,  as we keep in regular contact still,  but none of them have a clue.  So that will be funny when they find out.'

Dan

Dan is a full-time parent (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 36

Job: Full-time Parent

Living in London as a father to two young children, baking has become a part of Dan’s everyday life as a full-time parent. He’s a self-confessed perfectionist and believes aesthetics are one of the most important aspects of baking.

Why did you join the tent?

'My reasons for taking part in Bake Off were entirely selfish. I have been at home looking after the kids for the last six years, so it was a chance to do something for myself. With my youngest starting school, I’m now ready to rejoin the world of adults - I hoped that Bake Off might represent an opportunity to do something that I love and am passionate about.'

What illusion cake would you make?

'A flower basket cake with roses, sunflowers, hydrangeas, carnations, chrysanthemums – all in butter cream. I hate fondant, I think it’s the devil’s work!'

Imelda - SENT HOME IN WEEK 1

Imelda grew up in Northern Ireland (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 33

Job: Countryside Recreation Officer

Imelda grew up in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, where she learnt to cook and bake from her mother. She now mostly makes soda breads, biscuits and treats for her father and son.

Why did you join the tent?

'I went in for me as a challenge obviously for the baking, but also to have the confidence of meeting new people, I don’t usually put myself out there personally.'

How different is your kitchen to the tent?

'So different.  I am always in the kitchen, everything is to hand, no time pressure, you know where everything is.  We have an open door policy, the kitchen is the heart of house.  We live in the country and it’s very informal.'

Jon

Jon is ready to experiment with his bakes (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 47

Job: Blood Courier

Jon loves wowing family and friends with his vibrant showy bakes, and strives to experiment with new techniques and skills. He lives in Newport, Wales.

When do you bake at home and how different is the tent to your kitchen?

'I bake as often as I can – several times a week, mainly in the day while my wife and children are at school as I get some peace that way!  The tent is far easier than my kitchen, at home I have the kids running around, after school clubs to pick up from and my wife trying to keep the kitchen clean and tidy.  The time pressure in the tent was harder of course but I have to admit I loved every minute!'

What new crisp flavour would you invent and why?

'Butterscotch crisp, that would be superb. Imagine that!'

Karen

Karen was inspired by French patisseries (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 60

Job: In-Store Sampling Assistant

Karen began her obsession with baking while living with her husband in France, being inspired by the local French patisserie. She now lives in West Yorkshire, where she whips up profiteroles and foot long eclairs.

Why did you go into the tent?

'My daughters encouraged me to do it,  and I was approaching 60 and I found it really liberating to do something like this.

As you get older you feel less inhibited, and think does it matter if you make a fool of yourself.   I have always wanted to be even more flamboyant and free, I really wanted to do this for me and I thought it was the right time to step up and take on some challenges and have some fun.'

What Illusion cake would you make?

'I think it would have to be a kind of This is Your Life, the big red book cake, with a photograph on the front of the recipient with lots of calligraphy and embossing, reason being it is a very personal cake to give to someone and very bold.'

Kim-Joy

Kim-Joy's passion is bread (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 27

Job: Mental Health Specialist

Born in Belgium, growing up in London and now living in Leeds with her partner, Kim-Joy’s mixed heritage of an English father and Malaysian-Chinese mother is reflected in her eclectic baking. Her particular passion however, is bread.

Why did you go into the tent?

'None of my family really bake, it’s just me that bakes. My friends have always wanted me to apply, but I didn’t feel confident enough to apply until this year. I went into the tent mostly for myself to see if I could it!'

What illusion cake would you make?

'I love miniatures so I think I would make a magnifying glass with a chocolate handle, and 12 mini bakers wearing brown bake off aprons under the glass. I think I would prefer to do something that wasn’t completely realistic though, as I enjoy having the freedom to create my own twist on things!'

Luke - SENT HOME IN WEEK 2

Luke is a DJ and civil servant (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 30

Job: Civil Servant & House/Techno DJ

Luke’s earliest memory of baking is standing on a mini-step ladder so he could reach the worktop to help his Nan bake. He’s since been baking since he was 10-years-old, and lives in Sheffield.

When do you bake at home and how different is your kitchen to the tent?

'I tend to bake most on weekends and sometimes in the week after work if I get the chance. It’s completely different baking in my kitchen to the tent…there is no pressure to get it right or race against a clock .

I also love to have music playing and always have my sous-chef (aka my dog Oscar) waiting patiently by my side for something to drop on the floor that he can eat before I have a chance to stop him! One thing I do miss from the tent is having someone clean up after me and wash all the pots. Cleaning up is definitely my least favourite part of baking!'

If you had to invent a new crisp flavour, what would it be?

'It would have to be the ultimate – a Sunday Roast flavoured crisp. It’s one of my favourite meals and there would of course have to be an emphasis on the Yorkshire Pudding flavour coming through, one of the best bits of a Sunday Dinner.'

Manon

Manon was born and raised in France (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 26

Job: Software Project Manager

Born and raised in France, Manon now lives in London and learned to bake from her mother and grandmother. She was inspired by London to bake seeing the style and variety the city has to offer.

Why did you sign up for the tent?

'When me and my best friend came to England, Bake Off was one of the first shows we watched together on TV.  So I think my best friend and flatmate, and my closest girlfriends that have always rooted for me and supported me throughout my baking journey.'

What illusion cake would you make?

'I think a very colourful Poke – it’s a Hawaiian raw fish dish – so it would be avocado, salmon, wasabi mayonnaise, endame beans.  All made from sponge and fondant, and I love eating Poke it’s my favourite.'

Rahul

Rahul has a forensic attitude to baking (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 30

Job: Research Scientist

Growing up in Kolkata, Rahul moved to the UK on a university scholarship aged 23. As a scientist, he has a forensic attitude to baking and an unmatched attention to detail. He now lives in Rotherham.

When do you bake at home and how different is the tent to your kitchen?

'I try to bake alternate days. If it is something big, I develop and design it over the week and then execute it over the weekend.  I am a very messy baker and viewers will see that!  My flat is quite small and so it’s even messier at home, a big issue!'

Who will be most surprised you’ve entered Bake Off?

'I think pretty much everybody I know will be surprised.  They know I bake, but not to the scale that I could enter the tent. Colleagues I knew during my PhD don’t have a clue that I can bake. Back in India I didn’t bake either.  All of them and actually myself are surprised that I made it into the tent.'

Ruby

Ruby looked after everyone's baking needs in university (Picture: Channel 4)

Age: 29

Job: Project Manager

Ruby’s baking love emerged after becoming the household ‘mother’ at university, cooking for her seven housemates. Growing up in an Indian family as the youngest of four children, she associates her childhood with her mum making an Indian sweet called Jalebi’s. She now lives in London.

When do you bake at home and how different is your kitchen to the tent?

'My kitchen is very different to the tent; it’s very spacious and has a lovely breeze coming through! Baking and music go hand in hand at home; I will always have music blaring, so it’s a pretty lively affair. I don’t like people stepping into my kitchen at home trying to ‘help’, it’s my zone – let me do my thing and then after you can enjoy the treats!'

What illusion cake would you make?

'I love sandwiches and burgers, and eat far too many of them, so I think I would definitely tackle a burger with the full works included – super soft ‘brioche bun’ sponge covered in fondant with marzipan for the lettuce, tomato, onion, gherkin with a side of white chocolate stick fries and plenty of buttercream tomato ketchup of course. Sounds like carb heaven.'

Janet Jackson first heard Michael Jackson’s hit Thriller while sat in his car

Michael Jackson first played Thriller to Janet Jackson in his car (Picture: WireImage)

When Michael Jackson first revealed his song Thriller to the world, you’d have expected him to have thrown a huge listening party with his friends and family.

However, it appears he did something very different, and a lot more humble.

Surprisingly, the star flung open his car door, invited his sister Janet into the passengers side, and asked if she’d like to hear his new hit.

A little less extravagant than a party, but a lot more modest – and we quite like it.

Speaking to The Official Vodafone Big Top 40, the 52-year-old opened up on how she and her brothers would make music, as well as the first time she head some of Michael’s hits.

They also listened to Off The Wall (Picture: Getty Images)

She said: ‘Mike used to always throw me in the car and play me his albums before he played them for anybody.

‘[We would] just sit in the car and this major sound system, and just listen to everything from front to back. He played me Thriller and Off The Wall to see what I thought.’

She then went on to speak about her family’s song writing process, and it appears they all chipped in together.

Janet said: ‘If we’re around and there’s a piano and someone’s playing and someone said “I just wrote this the other day” and started playing it and next thing you know somebody is singing a melody to it and you know that would happen a lot and that’s how a lot of songs got created, that way.’

Janet has recently mourned the loss of her father Joe (Picture: Redferns)

The mother-of-one recently lost her father Joe, after his long battle with pancreatic cancer.

However, as performing has been her family’s way of life for so long, the singer put on a brave face and carried on with her tour like a trooper.

Earlier this summer, Janet took to the stage at Essence music festival and wowed the crowd with her energetic performance in New Orleans.

Prior to the gig, she told fans through Instagram she’d be going ahead despite her grief.

In a short video, she said: ‘Hey you guys, it’s been a pretty rough week.’

‘But we’re excited. I’m excited. We cannot wait to see you. It’s been way too long. I miss you guys way too much. I’m about to jump on this plane and start this tour.

‘Like I said, I can’t wait to see you. I love you, I’ll see you soon.’

You can hear more from Janet Jackson on The Official Vodafone Big Top 40 with Marvin Humes on Sunday from 4pm.

Tattoo Fixers Extreme cast on contestant backlash, celebrity ink and the disturbing tattoos they’ve refused

$

Paisley Billings, Pash Canby, Stephen Porter, Alice Perrin and Uzzy Canby (Picture: E4)

Tattoo Fixers has returned with new faces, new inks to cover and a new ‘Extreme’ title which promises a more ludicrous batch of stories behind the tattoo regrets.

Stephen ‘Sketch’ Porter, Alice Perrin, Paisley Billings are joined by new brothers Uzzi and Pash Canby in the new E4 series, with artists Jay Hutton and Glen Carloss having left the show earlier this year.

Starting back in June 2015, Tattoo Fixers has seen numerous changing line-ups across four series – which sees contestants with questionable tattoos head to their Hackney studio in hopes of morphing their inked horrors into a proud piece of body art.

Departing artists has been just one of the hurdles the team has had to overcome, with some previous contestants also speaking negatively of their time on the show.

‘There’s so many people, and out of all the people we tattooed it’s such a minority that have a problem,’ Sketch told Metro.co.uk.

‘As much as you see it is a show, it is like a business. You’re never going to get 100 per cent success rate with a business. You’re always going to get that odd person that’s like, “You know what, the food was a bit cold”.’

The show itself offers contestants free touch-ups and aftercare to keep certain tattoos covered, which the artists’ claim is the reason behind some of the uproar.

Alice said: ‘A few people that have complained are people who haven’t gone for their free touch-up.

‘To cover up a tattoo it doesn’t just cover-up straight away, it could need a few goes over certain areas. They are people who, after one session have gone, “Oh you can see this.”

‘You were warned that it might come back through and you’d have a touch-up, and it’s your choice whether you go to have your free touch-up or you choose to complain about it.’

Uzzi and Pash are the newbies to the team (Picture: E4)

As people who work as tattoo artists all over the country, the group have seen many trends come and go over the years – largely dictated by celebrities like Cheryl and David Beckham.

It’s something they collectively dread, and while they oblige these requests, they say it helps for customers to allow the artists creative freedom to provide their own spin.

Newbie to the group, Izzy said: ‘A lot of those people, the only education they do have is from seeing other people with tattoos so I don’t blame them in a weird way.

‘I think for a lot of people looking for a tattoo, they just need to go in the shop and explore options. You’ll find out a lot of these artists are more creative than what they think.’

Sketch makes it a particular note of Cheryl’s rose bum tattoo, saying: ‘That was terrible. It’s one of the worst places to tattoo people.

‘You could tattoo a beautiful design there, within two months, the whole bottom half will disappear. They’ll come back like, “This didn’t go on properly.” No, it did, but I warned you it would fall out.’

There are certain limits to what they’ll tattoo on people, with Sketch explaining how he ‘nearly punched’ someone after a customer requested a portrait of Hitler.

It wasn’t the strangest case he’s faced, however, with one incident particularly standing out in his mind.

There’s been numerous changes in the line-up (Picture: E4)

‘This is the honest truth,’ Sketch says. ‘I had someone come in my studio, her and her girlfriend. She wanted them to be on her chest like making love in a weird way.

‘She was like, “And we love our dog.” And she showed a picture of this Staffordshire bull terrier, saying, “We’d never done anything like it but so the picture works – could you put her hand in the dog and then the dog licking the other?” So it was like a big sex scene with the dog.

‘The worst thing I said was, “If you leave the deposit, I’ll draw something up.” For three months, I kept saying, “You know what, I haven’t got round to it.”

‘In the end she wanted her money back. I couldn’t even draw that. How do you even draw that?’
