Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas looked like one happy couple as they appeared at the Dior fashion show in Paris on Monday.

The couple – who wed last year – were in France after Joe Jonas an Sophie Turner’s recent lavish second wedding in South of France on Saturday.

Priyanka, 36 and Nick, 26, looked happy as ever as they mingled with the stars.

The Bollywood actress glowed as she played around with her loose-fitting dress as she posed for pictures with the Jonas Brothers singer.

Nick, not one to upstage his wife, opted for a more casual but dapper look in a black leather jacket with a large shimmering leaf embellishment.

Their outing comes after Nick’s brother Joe married Game of Thrones star Sophie for a second time after their surprise wedding in Las Vegas.

The pair wed for at an intimate ceremony at Le Chateau de Tourreau in Sarrians, France.

Maisie Williams was thought to be Sophie’s maid of honour while Joe’s brothers Nick and Kevin attended with their wives, Priyanka and Danielle Jonas respectively.

Wilmer Valderrama and his girlfriend Amanda Pacheco were also joined at the wedding reception by fellow guests Ashley Graham and husband Justin Ervin.

E! News confirmed that ‘white elegant flowers and glass candles adorned the aisles at the ceremony site’ while the guests and the happy couple later attended Château de Tourreau for the reception.

Aerial pictures showed the venue with a white marquee along with a stage set up for numerous musicians.

Sophie, 23, is thought to have prepared for the big day with her bridesmaids, including Maisie, and the girls were ‘drinking champagne’ and enjoying brunch.

Joe, however, enjoyed harder liquor, having ‘a few shots with his groomsmen to ease the nerves’.

Sophie and Joe began dating in November 2016 and tied the knot in an impromptu Las Vegas wedding earlier this year.

How long do the Love Island contestants stay in Casa Amor?

It’s all kicking off in Love Island’s Casa Amor (Picture: ITV)

Just when you thought Love Island couldn’t get any more dramatic, along comes Casa Amor to really shake things up.

The second villa made its debut last week, but in a twist to the usual proceedings the girls were sent there instead of the boys – who remained in the main villa.

And with six new boys sent into Casa Amor to keep the girls company, along with six new girls doing the same for the existing boys, it hasn’t taken long for all manner of snogging and shenanigans to break out.

So just how long will the Casa Amor twist last?

Here’s what you need to know…

How long do the Love Island contestants stay in Casa Amor?

It hasn’t been confirmed how long the contestants will remain in Casa Amor.

However last year the boys spent four days in the second villa, and the previous year – when it featured for the first time on the show – they spent three days in there.

Anton Danyluk kisses Belle Hassan on Love Island
There’s been no shortage of snogging back in the main villa either (Picture: ITV)

Since the girls first entered the villa on Friday night’s show we’re guessing their time in there will be coming to an end pretty soon.

However it’s all very much about Casa Amor still on Monday night’s show, with both Molly-Mae and Tommy kissing other people – as well as Curtis beginning to have doubts about Amy as he gets to know Jourdan Riane.

Michael Griffiths has also had his head turned by Joanna Chimonides – despite being happily coupled up with Amber Gill.

When is the next Love Island recoupling?

At the moment that hasn’t yet been confirmed – but given all the action currently coming from both villas, we reckon it’ll only be a matter of time before we see some new couples on the scene, maybe even as early as this week.

Regardless of when it all happens, we’re expecting some pretty dramatic scenes once each villa realises what the occupants of the other one is up to.

Love Island continues on Monday night on ITV2 at 9pm.

Stormzy apologises to Skunk Anansie after claiming to be the first black British artist to headline Glastonbury

British artist Stormzy performs at Glastonbury

When Stormzy agreed to headline Glastonbury, he knew he would be making history and couldn’t wait to share it with the world.

‘I am first black British artist to headline Glastonbury,’ the Shut Up artist tweeted to his fans.

‘At 25 years old I am the second youngest solo act to ever headline Glastonbury, the youngest being a 24 year old David Bowie in 1971,’ he added.

‘I’m overwhelmed with emotions, this is the most surreal feeling I’ve ever experienced.’

But, while the rapper is ‘the second youngest solo act to ever headline Glastonbury,’ he has come to realise that his claim to be ‘first black British artist’ was a terrible blunder.

On Monday, Stormzy went back on to Twitter to rectify his claims.

He wrote: ‘Skin from the band Skunk Anansie was actually the first black artist to headline glasto she done it with her band in 1999 no disrespect intended and MASSIVE salute to you – my apologies !’

He also tagged Skin in the tweet.

Skunk Anansie performed on the Pyramid Stage (the same Stormzy performed on on Friday) at Glastonbury in 1999 and the British rock band took to Instagram to refute the rapper’s original claim.

‘Sorry Stormzy but we beat you to it in 1999! 20 years ago!’ the band wrote in their Instagram post.

‘And while we’re on topic, I was the first black Woman too! @beyonce.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/BzQ51hlH29r/?utm_source=ig_embed

But, the band didn’t seem to be offended by the claim wishing him well with his performance.

‘Wishing you an awesome nite tho, Kill it! You’re amazing and we’re all very proud,’ they added.

While Stormzy may not be the first black British artist to headline Glastonbury as he once thought, he is most certainly the first black British solo artist to do so. So still much to celebrate on his part.

Rihanna shocks fans with surprise appearance at the Cricket World Cup in Durham of all places

Rihanna made a surprise appearance in the crowd for the Sri Lanka v West Indies match at ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in Durham on Monday.

The Work singer, pretty much startled the world – and Londoners – when she announced she has been secretly living in the capital for the last few months.

And in case we did not believe her, the 31-year-old made a surprise appearance at the cricket match to prove to us that she is really truly soaking up the UK culture – and rare sun.

The actress even posed for photographs inside the Riverside Stadium which the West Indies cricket team’s Twitter page then posted.

The singer from Barbados, where cricket is already a popular sport, cheered on from her seats with a friend as she wore a large white jacket which she paired with a matching crop top and high-waisted white trousers.

Adding on a truly large pair of rockstar shades, Rihanna completed her look with a bright red lip.

The Fenty founder clearly enjoyed her day off from running a business empire as she laughed and chatted with a friend while sipping on a drink.

She even drinks like a queen.

The hitmaker recently told The New York Times that she’s been ‘keeping a little incognito’ while staying in the capital and is enjoying the relative anonymity the city brings.

Seriously, how did nobody spot her? Not one single person. More proof that she has superpowers, to be honest.

In a recent interview she said: ‘[I enjoy] walking around the block. When I go walking, I try to keep it a little incognito,’ adding that she finds Bank Holidays ‘insane’ (in a good way).

On learning of the move, many joined the dots from a previous selfie Rihanna shared which had a shopping bag from Sainsbury’s in the background.

And while her designer title takes on new heights, fans are still pining for new music more than three years after her last album, Anti, hit the shelves.

‘It isn’t in the books right now, but I’m not against it,’ she said of a possible collaboration with Lady Gaga before admitting ‘I don’t see it happening’ when asked if she would work with her ex Drake.

However, she did confirm the next release will be a ‘reggae album’ but she doesn’t have a title yet.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge wants to ‘sneak’ her signature feminist humour into James Bond script

Phoebe Waller-Bridge has admitted to wanting to ‘sneak’ in her signature feminist humour into the script for the upcoming James Bond movie.

Because we’re all about girl power.

The 33-year-old actress spoke to The Observer and revealed that it was ‘really exciting’ to be working on the 25th instalment in the James Bond franchise, which will star Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as the spy.

‘The film they’ve got is such an exciting story’, she said. ‘It’s been a joy to work on.

‘It’s mainly about making them feel like real people, which they do in the previous films. I think Daniel’s films have had really fantastic Bond girls and it’s about keeping that up.’

And on the subject of her usual feminism humour, Phoebe replied: ‘Well, we’ll see, we’ll see what I can sneak in.’

We’re intrigued.

Meanwhile, there has been much speculation surrounding the fate of the actress’ BBC series Fleabag – which she writes and stars in.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Phoebe stars in the BBC series Flebag, which she also wrote (Picture: BBC)

The show is family orientated, and Phoebe drew upon her own experiences to bring the series to life.

And her inspirations actually came from her worries.

‘Of course I’m drawing on really personal things and things that echo in real life, but I write about my biggest fears’, she revealed.

‘I write about losing my best friend or losing my mum, or not communicating with my dad, or not getting on with his new partner, and all those things are my worst fears: whereas actually my mum’s alive and well, my best friend is alive and well and we have an unbelievable relationship, my relationship with both my siblings is incredible, I get on really well with my stepmother and my dad; but it’s the what if.’

And she believes that women in the TV industry are continually subjected to double standards due to this.

She said: ‘It might be to do with the fact I’m a woman, but it also might not be. That autobiographical assumption is something I’m asked about a lot.

‘It is either because the show feels so raw and real that people think it’s real, or it’s because people assume there’s a limit to a woman’s imagination. I’d always rather believe the former.’

Louis Tomlinson ‘categorically did not approve’ X-rated ‘Larry Stylinson’ scene on Euphoria

Louis Tomlinson has responded to a scene on American TV show Euphoria that depicted explicit fan-fiction about him and One Direction band mate Harry Styles.

The scene focused on a fan-fiction writer, played by Barbie Ferreira, who wrote a graphic story about ‘Larry Stylinson’, the nickname for the fictional same-sex relationship between Louis and Harry.

In the animated scene narrated by Zendaya’s character Rue, Harry comforts a nervous Louis before a concert by performing oral sex on him.

As One Direction fans furiously slammed the moment on Twitter, one wondered if either Louis or Harry had been made aware of it.

Louis replied: ‘I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it.’

Actress Barbie told the Hollywood Reporter: ‘When I first read the script, that was the first thing that popped out to me because I can relate to that as a 22-year-old woman who lived through the One Direction age. It’s such a reality for so many people, and so many children and teens that are fans just have this escapist world.

‘You completely give yourself to this persona of a person you don’t even know, or five guys, and imaging the way they interact the escaping from your own reality. It’s really interesting to me because I was definitely a part of that, where I wanted to escape my own life and focus on others because it was easier and felt more meaningful.’

Louis Tomlinson
(Picture: Twitter)

Louis has previously said that the whole ‘Larry Stylinson’ thing made his friendship with Harry uncomfortable while they were in the band, which went on hiatus in 2016.

‘Larry Stylinson’, a mash-up of both the boys’ names, signifies part of fandom culture called ‘shipping’, where fans express a desire for a romantic relationship to happen between two people – real or fictional.

Pasha Kovalev kept his wedding to Rachel Riley a secret from friends by telling them he was simply going on holiday.

Pop star Ashley Roberts, who was paired with pal Pasha on Strictly Come Dancing last year, revealed how he managed to keep her in the dark about his big day.

Ashley explained on Heart radio on Monday: ‘He came to the opening night of Waitress and said, “I’ve got to go off travelling.” Little did I know he was going off to get married.’

The couple are said to have kept their plan to wed in Las Vegas a secret from their families also.

The Countdown star shared the happy news on Instagram by sharing a lovely photo with her new husband after tying the knot.

Rachel captioned the Instagram post: ‘Introducing the new Mr and Mrs Kovalev We both said yes!’

It comes weeks after the 33-year-old announced she and Pasha, 39, are expecting their first child.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BzWctfcniET/?utm_source=ig_embed

The professional dancer and the brainbox TV presenter met on Strictly in 2013.

Pasha has since quit the show after eight years as a pro dancer, telling fans in a statement: ‘After scoring 93 perfect tens, reaching 4 finals and lifting 1 glitter ball, it’s time for me to find a new challenge and so I’ve decided to make last year – my final season on Strictly.

‘I’ve had 8 fantastic years, full of wonderful memories, thanks to the incredible partners, professionals and myriad of behind the scenes teams who all work to make Strictly the amazing production that it is.’

Rachel previously confessed that she struggled to watch Pasha dance with Ashley on the BBC show.

‘It’s kind of left its mark,’ she said. ‘[Watching him] just makes me feel nervous – so I make myself busy when it’s on. I leave Pasha to it!’

She added to Radio Times: ‘[I watch] occasionally. I like to see how the clothes come over on screen, because they look completely different. And I do still like watching the numbers game.’

Uma Thurman’s daughter Maya looked like a carbon copy of her mother as she made an appearance at the Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter fashion show in Paris on Monday.

Stranger Things star Maya, 20, is the daughter of the Kill Bill actress and Ethan Hawke and is making her face known in Hollywood.

The actress, who followed the showbiz steps of Uma and Ethan into acting, wore a white Dior frock as she joined a host of stars at the fashionable event while adding gold drop earrings.

The star joined a host of famous faces at the event, including Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Elisabeth Moss and Shailene Woodley.

Maya is one of two children that Uma and Ethan share after meeting on the set of the 1997 science fiction drama Gattaca. The couple married the next year, but parted ways and divorced in 2004.

The former couple also share a 17-year-old son named Levon.

Meanwhile, Una shares a six-year-old daughter, Luna with French financier Arpad Busson. The couple split up in 2014.

Maya is following in her famous parents’ footsteps into the acting world after she landed a role in miniseries Little Women.

The star is also set to make her debut as ‘alternative girl’ Robin who ‘stumbles onto a Hawkins secret’ in the eight-episode third season of the highly anticipated Stranger Things.

People are gonna be upset tomorrow night (Picture: ITV)

Love Island’s Michael Griffiths quickly went from one of the most liked people in the villa to one of the most hated after acting on his feelings for Joanna Chimonides.

Michael had been making it pretty clear that his head was being turned from Amber Gill after he called her ‘childish’ and told Joanna that their relationship had hit a rocky patch.

The firefighter will take the plunge and share a kiss with Joanna in the next episode, which was teased at the end of Monday night’s installment.

‘If I went to kiss you now would you stop me?’ Michael asks the new islander

Joanna replies: ‘Probably not.’

Michael leans in for the kill, and just as they are about to lock lips we see Anton – bless his heart – looking shocked.

He’s probably not as shocked as Amber is going to be when she finds out, as she has been making every effort to stay loyal to Michael, refusing to even share a bed with one of the new boys.

Fans of the popular couple were fuming to see Michael stray.

One furious tweet read: ‘Michael is cancelled. i know amber can be suffocating but still she’s my b***h so michael is cancelled and i’m upset.’

‘Deleting my old tweets where i was supporting Michael’ another reply read.

A tweet, written in all caps so you know they’re serious, said: ‘MICHAEL IS CANCELLED IDC ANYMORE AMBER DESERVES BETTER.’

‘I am not emotionally prepared to watch amber walk in on her own and then see Michael with joanna,’ a further post read.

Another tweet said: ‘How the eff can a boy choose a girl he’s known for 3 days over a girl he’s started off this love island experience with ???? Michael you’re a fool.’

Elsewhere in the trailer, Curtis Pritchard – who had been having doubts over his current ‘half-relationship’ with Amy Hart – admitted to Jourdan Riane that he would pick her over Amy if he had to recouple.

‘Right at this second I’d choose you,’ he is seen telling Jourdan.

A stunned Jourdan asks if he is dead sure about his choice, but we will have to wait until tomorrow to get his answer.

And with Jourdan spending the previous night tucked up in bed kissing Danny Williams, does she even feel the same?

Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2.

Dean McDermott, the husband of Tori Spelling, has been hospitalised after coming down with pneumonia and ‘possible meningitis.’

The 52-year-old actor posted a hospital selfie to his Instagram on Monday morning, with a breathing tube around his nose.

‘So this happened last night. I got admitted to hospital with pneumonia, possibly meningitis’, he revealed.

‘I’ve never been so sick in my life!!!! Thumbs up and spirits up though.’

In the meantime, he made sure to give a shout out to his Daddy Issues podcast for fans to listen to.

‘And don’t forget to listen to @daddyissuesshow this morning at 9am. @theperezhilton is our guest.’

Just one day before this update, the actor had a high fever and a thrown-out back.

‘I’m so BUMMED!!! I’ve been laid out for 2 days because I threw my back out’, he said to his Instagram followers.

‘How’d I throw my back out you ask?? Bending over to pick up a towel to DRY MY FACE!!! Epic fail!!

‘How’d I get the 102 fever?? Courtesy of Finn McDermott.’

And this spell of illness ruined his plans to fly to Vancouver to visit Tori and their daughter, Stella.

‘I tell ya, I’m going to be on ornery elderly person’, he admitted.

‘I get really pissed off when I can’t do things and move the way I want. And I’m already ornery as it is!!’

Last week, Dean fought back against online trolls who criticised his son Liam’s appearance.

‘He said, “dad, am I obese?” I said, “look buddy – there’s some sick people in the world, and they need to do stuff like this. They need to say bad things about people”,’ he said on his podcast

Billie Faiers has slammed Phillip Schofield after he quizzed her over the price of her wedding.

The reality star and her sister, Sam, were interviewed by Phillip and Holly Willoughby on This Morning back in March, when the presenter suggested she paid almost £229,000 for accommodation to the ceremony.

‘We had a look, if you were to stay there from next Saturday 6 April, it would be £655 a night, that £4588 for a week with a superior beach villa, the whole week for 100 guests?’ Phillip asked.

‘£229,000 so you must have got a deal there.

‘It wasn’t quite that,’ Billie replied.

‘So they did you a deal?’ Phil further interrogated.

Billie responded: ‘No because there was a large group of us, we had the beach houses but they split them in two, so we had two families in one beach house which helped us out with the rooms.’

The former TOWIE star clearly was not having any of this.

Billie and Sam Faiers

And now she and her husband, Greg Shepherd, have slammed the presenter for suggesting that they were able to get married for free.

‘I was in shock’, she admitted in an interview with OK! Magazine. ‘Prior to our appearance, I’d been very clear that I don’t talk about money. It’s rude and it’s nobody’s business but ours.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwaD_8JHH35/

‘They were trying to insinuate that we got the wedding for free, which is so far from the truth. We saved for our wedding for years.’

Greg jokingly added: ‘We should ask Phillip Schofield how much he earns!’

Billie married her husband back in March, with the ceremony taking place on the island of Kuramathi in the Maldives.

‘Other than the days that Nelly and Arthur were born, it was the best day of my life’, she said at the time.

Tyler, the Creator revealed his own ice cream flavour and it’s the most random thing.

The hip hop artist has unveiled the mint and white chocolate-flavoured creation which is in collaboration with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream.

The 28-year-old proves that he is not only good at making music but can also turn his hand to creating sweet treats.

The flavour, Snowflake, is green and white and features ‘cool peppermint on the ivory side, warm spearmint on the green side, with buttery white chocolate melted throughout, white chocolate flakes for some crunch, and a little sea salt to bring the flavour and scent forward.’

Well, that sounds like a party in the mouth.

Snowflake is a collaboration between Tyler’s golf le fleur and the Ohio-based Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

The ice cream will be available online on 6 July and will be sold at Tyler’s Gold store in LA, and arrives at Jeni’s locations on 8 July.

Speaking about Snowflake, Tyler said: ‘As much as I love white chocolate chip cookies, I can’t get over the fact that someone made the universal rule that they always have to come with those useless macadamia nuts.

‘For as long as I can remember, mint ice cream seemed to always come with every chocolate chip but white. I finally got the two away from their clingy friends and set up a play date for my mouth.

‘Enjoy, TYLER, THE CREATOR’.

This isn’t the first time Tyler – real name Tyler Gregory Okonma – has branched outside of making music.

The artist started a TV show on Adult Swim called Loiter Squad, which featured various sketches and pranks.

He has also collaborated with other well-regarded artists like Frank Ocean, Pusha T, and ASAP Rocky.

The star announced two London shows on 16 and 17 September, after his previous attempt to hold a surprise gig in the city was shut down by authorities minutes after the scheduled start time.

Dog The Bounty Hunter announced the public farewell to late wife Beth Chapman with an emotive visual tribute confirming further details.

The reality TV star has announced that his wife will be laid to rest in two weeks’ time.

Taking to Twitter, Dog shared that a service honouring Beth’s memory will take place in Aurora, on 13 July.

He shared a digitally altered image of his late wife wearing angel wings as she hugs him from behind.

With the photo, he revealed that the service will be held at the Heritage Christian Center with the ceremony starting at 2pm, local time.

The service appears to be open to the public so that fans of Beth can pay their respects.

Beth died aged 51 on 26 June after spending five days in a medically induced coma, following a battle with stage four throat cancer.

Dog, real name Duane, previously thanked fans for their support following her death.

The 66-year-old tweeted: ‘Love you all and thank you very much for the support you have been giving for Beth.

‘We have tentatively scheduled July 13 in Denver to tuck her in, tell her goodnight, for she sleepeth.

‘More details will follow… time, place, etc.’

Games Inbox: Nintendo console power, the niche PlayStation 5, and cheap Super Mario Maker 2

Today's where you finally find out...
Should Nintendo re-enter the power race?

The Tuesday Inbox is upset at the loudness of the PS4 Pro at 4K, as one reader worries about the size of Cloud’s sword in Final Fantasy VII.

Left behind

Interesting to see Sony talking openly about the PlayStation 5 again, in a way it feels like they’ve said more about it than Microsoft have Project Scarlett, even though they weren’t at E3. As a fan though I can’t help but think where all this leaves Nintendo. I very much agreed with the Reader’s Feature at the weekend which said that most of these company’s problems is getting distracted and not just getting on with the business of making games. Which is a pitfall that Sony apparently are already making sure to avoid, given what they were saying.

Games aren’t a problem for Nintendo, in terms of quality if not quantity, but what are they going to do when the new consoles are much more powerful than the already low-powered Switch? And what about when streaming makes it so that everyone can have the equivalent of an ultra spec ninja PC on their smartphone?

They’ll still want to play great games, which Nintendo can provide, but I’m not sure what else they’ll be able to bring to the table at that point. We know there’s been streaming experiments in Japan, and they’ve obviously been talking to Microsoft, but we’ve all heard these kind of stories before with Nintendo and they never come to anything.

Even the rumoured portable-only and pro version of the Switch, that everyone seemed so certain was coming this summer, don’t have a scrap of evidence behind them. Don’t get me wrong, I worry that Nintendo are going to be left out of this new technological race and the all these years of not having powerful hardware is going to bit them on the ass. No, I don’t expected a Switch as powerful as an Xbox One X, but where getting to the point where ordinary people might though.

Back ache

While I am really looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake, there’s one thing from what they’ve shown so far that is grinding my gears and I’ve struggled to find any similar complaints online. Namely how ridiculous it looks for Cloud to constantly have the Buster Sword on his back.

The scene where he’s sat talking at the bar with Tifa with this whopping great sword just looks absolutely awful to me. I’m really hoping it’s not a permanent fixture on the character model! A minor gripe I suppose but one I know I’ll find extremely annoying.

Courting the hard-core

Well… that was a pretty odd few statements from Sony. Calling their main profit-bringing niche and talking about hardcore (or ‘hard-core’ I noticed!) gamers. I get the feeling they were talking to investors and that neither they nor the person speaking knew much about video games but that almost makes it more interesting. Especially as it clearly wasn’t some kind of off the cuff statement.

I have trouble imagining it’s anything other what GC said – the usual appeal to the hardcore at the beginning of the gen, as they’re the only ones to shell out at full price and when they’re essentially doing unpaid QA. (Although judging by recent news all QA seems to be barely paid in the games industry, but that’s another story.)

Ultimately I don’t think it means any kind of change in approach but it is interesting in that after a long period of success is usually when Sony gets too big for its boots and starts trying to appeal to the ‘mainstream’ and not its main audience. I guess they really did learn their lesson from the PlayStation 3 reveal, which makes me hopefully the new machine won’t be stupidly expensive either.

I’m in the boat that because Sony are being unusually quiet at the moment, especially after missing E3, that they’re starting to dismiss them a bit. Sony are the ones to beat in the next gen just as they have been for decades now. And they’re still the safest bet as to who’s going to win.

Worth repeating

To Anon wishing for Chu Chu Rocket on the Switch, checkout BlobCat… on the Switch. Not a bad little effort that’s kept me and the kids entertained a fair bit.

Pleased to see Alan Wake being mentioned again. Bland was used quite a bit on its release but I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the journey. Reminded me of Half-Life in that sense: see something ominous looming in the distance and catch a glimpse of it here and there for a couple of hours, eventually breaking through a clearing in the trees to realise you’ve trekked all that way to get to it. It’s atmospheric. I’d welcome a Switch port, would happily go through it all again.
PugMartin

GC: We wouldn’t ever call it bland but we did think it very repetitive, and the script was pretty bad.

£64 off

I’m thoroughly enjoying Super Mario Maker 2, which I purchased for a very reasonable £39.99 from Argos. The nostalgia is pretty strong with this one, with the charming graphics and catchy music.

Also, I would like to recommend Virtua Racing on the Nintendo eShop. The updated, sharpened-up old skool polygon graphics look fantastic and at an absolutely brilliant Trotters Independent Traders bargain price of £5.99 it’s a full £64 cheaper than the old Mega Drive port!

Chemical reality

If I might submit a late entry for the weekend’s Hot Topic; I just witnessed the awesomeness that was The Chemical Brothers at this year’s Glastonbury (seriously, if you missed it check it out on the BBC iPlayer and have your mind well and truly blown).

While watching I started salivating to the fantasy that Sony have Rez 2 secretly in the works as a PlayStation 5 game (possibly a PlayStation VR 2 launch title) – with these guys providing the soundtrack…. synesthesia indeed!
Karl S

Switch off

I know this is less relevant since the Switch came out but all this talk of a third Luigi’s Mansion game reminded me that I never finished the second one, I’ve gone back to playing it on my New Nintendo 3DS XL which had been gathering dust.

There seems to be two reasons I didn’t finish it. First the levels seem a bit long for a handheld game, not ridiculously long but if you die near the end of a level and have to play it from the start and it’s a bit dispiriting.

The other reason is sort of connected with having to start from scratch… my right little finger keeps somehow finding and pressing the power button while I’m playing, when this happens there doesn’t seem any choice but to start over.

Is this a design flaw or am I just holding it wrong? I always start with all fingers behind the machine but invariably my two little fingers pop down to support the bottom of the machine, as I’m too busy playing I don’t usually notice this until it’s too late.

Preparing for take off

Picked up a budget 50-inch 4K TV the other day, the Philips 50PUS6753, as it was only £304 with an AO eBay store 20% off voucher. Free shipping, arrived two days after purchase, two-man delivery team carried it up two flights of stairs for me. A great shopping experience all round really.

The TV wasn’t for gaming (50Hz screen, non-existent HDR, noticeable lag in game HDR mode, game mode very responsive though – but not a screen to do justice to modern graphics) but just to watch TV and Netflix on, something more sizeable than my old 32 inch screen.

Did plug the PS4 Pro into it to see what some games looked like in 4K or faux 4K. What grabbed my attention though was how loud the PS4 Pro fan got when running The Witcher 3, the first game I tried at higher than 1080p resolution. The clip below is when it’s running the game engine then winding down once I quit out of it, you can hear the PlayStation 4 home screen music at the same time. Really hope the PlayStation 5 isn’t as god awful loud as the PlayStation 4.

Contra: Rogue Corps - back at last
Contra: Rogue Corps – back at last

GameCentral speaks to the director of the classic Contra III about his new sequel and the future of Konami video games.

Contra: Rogue Corps key artContra: Rogue Corps hands-on and interview – ‘Konami have a gaming heart!’

Back in the late 80s, and well into the 90s, Konami were one of the biggest publishers around. With franchises like Castlevania, Contra, Gradius, and others they were responsible for some of the best arcade style games of the decade. But as they entered the PlayStation era they began to rely more and more on Metal Gear, before seemingly killing their own golden goose by forcing out series creator Hideo Kojima in 2015. A move which, much to fans’ dismay, made them more profitable than ever, thanks to their gambling and fitness club businesses in Japan.

But recently there has been signs that they are once again interested in games, and their own back catalogue. The Castlevania Anniversary Collection was excellent and while it came out right around E3, so we never had a chance to do a full review, so is the similarly comprehensive Contra Anniversary Collection. At the end of the day they’re still just repackaged retro games, but for the first time in eight years there’s also a new Contra game on the way.

We got to play Contra: Rogue Corps at E3 and talk to director Nobuya Nakazato, who has been involved in almost every Contra game since the classic Contra III (aka Super Probotector) on the SNES. He was clearly thrilled at the attention – decked out in a special Contra jacket with the famous Konami code emblazoned upon it – and well he might be, given not only his own track record but the fact that he’d convinced Konami to give the series another life.

Despite what might seem the obvious path to take, Rogue Corps is not a pseudo-remake of the original game or Contra III. In fact, at first glance, it doesn’t seem to have much in common with Contra at all, unless you’re familiar with the obscure Neo Contra on the PlayStation 2 – which Nakazato worked on and has a similar top-down viewpoint. But the more you play the game you realise that it’s actually a sort of greatest hits of Contra, with references to the very earliest entries, as well as Contra III, PlayStation 2 title Shattered Soldier, and no doubt more.

Despite the more famous entries being quintessential examples of the 2D run ‘n’ gun genre, Rogue Corps is a twin stick shooter. The first few Contra games were relatively grounded, for a late 80s arcade game, but under Nakazato the series has grown stranger and more fantastical and Rogue Corps is by far the most bizarre yet, at least in terms of your choice of playable characters.

There’s an Arnie-style soldier called Kaiser, whose arm transforms into a drill; an assassin with an alien in her stomach called Ms Harakiri; a cyborg panda with a human brain called Hungry Beast; and a very polite, and extremely ugly, alien called Gentleman. Since they all have unique special moves, such as the aforementioned drill arm, they’re even stranger than they sound when you start playing as them, with equally weird enemies that range from skin-peeled alien zombies to… we don’t even know what the blubbery cyborg boss was meant to be but it was gross and we’re glad it’s dead.

Contra: Rogue Corps - yes, that's a cyborg panda riding a missile
Contra: Rogue Corps – yes, that’s a cyborg panda riding a missile

It’s all very odd and seems even more so given the relentless pace and constant switching of camera angles and perspective. But that is all perfectly in-keeping with the series’ established traditions. And so too is Rogue Corps’ focus on co-operative play, with up to four players at a time in the story campaign, both online and in couch co-op. Plus, there are promised PvP modes that go up to 4v4. Our demo was single-player only, so we never got to try any of that, but it’s clear that Nakazato sees it as an important step forward for the series.

As you can see, the graphics aren’t the best, and the frame rate was a touch syrupy when we played it, but the basic action was solid, enjoyable, and, perhaps most importantly, highly unpredictable. There is some nuance to the combat too, in the way you use your dodge move to not only escape incoming bullets but to stagger enemies to soften them up for other attacks. You also have to constantly switch from one of two weapons as the other overheats, with a between stage hub promising to be able to upgrade your weapons and abilities as you proceed.

We don’t know whether it’s going to go down as a classic entry in the series but Rogue Corps does feel like a proper Contra game, and all without resorting to being a remake or copy of an existing game. Although Nakazato wouldn’t give anything away about other new entries in classic Konami franchises he certainly seemed to be hinting at the possibility of a new Gradius, although that may depend on how well Rogue Ops does. Which is all the more reason to hope the final version lives up to its legacy.

Contra: Rogue Corps - everyone's favourite boss returns
Contra: Rogue Corps – everyone’s favourite boss returns

GC: I’m very glad to see a new Contra after all these years, I’d almost given up hope. Is there any particular reason why now though?

NN: As you saw in the Nintendo Direct [the Rogue Corps trailer debuted during Nintendo’s E3 Direct – GC] a lot of old games are being remade these days and there is definitely a retro gaming boom at the moment. So I thought it was my chance to bring back the franchise that I love.

GC: You must have considered, at one point, doing a remake or something closer to the earlier games, what convinced you to go in this direction?

NN: This game is keeping the core of what makes Contra what it is. If it’s just keeping the old elements you could just play the Contra Anniversary Collection and it would be the same thing. Which is fine, please do! [laughs] But this adds new elements to make it a new game. The old games are still good today but I really wanted to add more new things into the game and not just rehash the old ones.

And when you think of Contra, what makes Contra a good game – that is enjoyed by a lot of players – is when you’re playing together with someone; whether it’s a sibling or a friend. So we wanted to expand on this idea and have four people playing together, especially four people that may not be in the same room at the same time. So that is why we have online multiplayer now, as it makes the game way more fun and way more appealing to modern gamers.

GC: I saw a lot of references to previous games, from the very first one to Contra III, but also Neo Contra and Shattered Soldier. Is that how it’s intended, as a celebration of all the games up to this point?

NN: I think you are right! We tried to design the game to bring a smile to existing fans and to bring back a lot of familiar elements, so it didn’t seem completely unconnected to the old games. But we also tried to have new camera angles and more dynamic action, which is possible in co-op since you’ll be online. You can have different people progressing at different speeds so everyone can take part at their own pace.

Back in the day, when all the players were sharing the same screen, you couldn’t have different things happening. It had to be the same thing and at the same time, so online does offer us a lot more freedom in that regard.

GC: There was a period about 10 years ago or so when these kind of old school games went out of fashion but, as you say, the opposite seems to be happening now. How do you feel when you see all these indie titles paying homage to your classic games?

NN: Of course, I’m proud and happy to see that indie games are taking inspiration from my creations. But at the same time they are competitors. [laughs] So I will do my best to make the best modern game I can. Games these days are getting more and more advanced and that creates difficulties not just for developers but for players who have to invest a lot of their time into a single game to enjoy it.

With indie games, and games like Contra, people are craving simple gameplay. Something that you can dive into really quickly from the first bullet to the last one. And this is what we tried to bring back with this game.

GC: Konami had a lot of games that were very big in the 8 and 16-bit eras but which never really moved beyond that, in terms of gameplay or mainstream appeal. When I think of what Contra would be like if it had continued to evolve I think of something like Gears Of War – a very gung-ho third person, co-op shooter. Does that make sense to you at all?

NN: Yeah, you’re right and I love Gears Of War and it’s a really good game. But it is still quite different from Contra, because it’s violent and probably more serious than Contra. Contra is really crazy and over-the-top and it’s not meant to be taken seriously. Even if the games might have had some similarities I don’t think the franchise would have evolved in the same direction as Gears Of War.

GC: Have you ever considered making a modern third person game like that based on Contra?

NN: There could have been a Contra game that would have been a third person shooter, just like Gears Of War. But I think Contra is more like a shoot ’em-up where you’re trying to avoid the bullets. Also, the competition is quite harsh in the TPS genre, so it made more sense to go in that direction. You have this very gameplay-focused game that is the core of the Japanese game industry, which you can also find in Western games like Smash T.V., and this is what makes Contra a Contra game.

GC: I think a lot of people have been worried in the last few years that Konami, as a company, has lost interest in video games. But the Classic Collections, at least the last two, have been really good, and now this. Is that intended as a statement that Konami are still serious about making video games?

NN: We know that there is this concern amongst gamers that Konami was kind of backing away from the gaming industry and that some of the games were in danger of disappearing. But internally we are all gamers. All the developers at Konami have a gaming heart! And I wanted to bring back the Contra franchise with a game that is aimed squarely at gamers and people who love games.

GC: Do you think we might ever see a new Gradius as well?

NN: [laughs] You like Gradius?

GC: Oh yes! [laughs]

NN: Well, there is a kind of reference to Gradius in the game, actually. And by the way, you see on my jacket the Konami code – everybody thinks it made its debut in Contra but actually the first game that used that was Gradius. I’d love to see Gradius come back.

GC: So would I!

NN: [laughs]

GC: Well, thank you very much, sir. It’s been great to meet you.

NN: Thank you!

Taylor Swift’s albums jumps up in the charts in wake of Scooter Braun feud

What has Taylor Swift said about Scooter Braun and how has he responded?

Taylor Swift’s feud with Scooter Braun has seen three of her six older albums jump back up in the charts.

Good news for Scooter, not good news for Taylor.

Speak Now, 1989 and her self-titled debut album Taylor Swift are all in Amazon’s top 50 Movers And Shakers charts, which monitors the ‘biggest gainers in sales rank over the past 24 hours’.

All have seen sales increase, with but Taylor Swift peaking on Monday at number three in digital sales, and Red, her fourth album, taking the fourth spot.

By Tuesday they had all fallen out of the digital sales top 50 but remained in the charts for CD and Vinyl.

Taylor’s first six albums of her career – Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and Reputation – are now all owned by Scooter Braun, after he purchased Big Machine Records.

Braun – who is also Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande’s longtime manager – had purchased Taylor’s former label as part of a $300million (£240million) deal, according to Billboard but the pop star called the purchase the ‘worst case scenario’ for her, and accused him of bullying her after the mega deal went down.

As well as Taylor’s back catalogue, the company also owned every single, every photo and all the assets that go with it.

Taylor claims that she was never given the opportunity to buy it herself, and the star insisted was the result of inking a deal at just 15 and now suffering the consequence.

In a lengthy post on her Tumblr page as she reacted to the announcement, she shared: ‘This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term “loyalty” is clearly just a contractual concept.’

She also accused Braun of ‘incessant bullying’, adding: ‘Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words “Scooter Braun” escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to.

‘He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.’

Halsey, Iggy Azalea, Selena Gomez’s mother and Cara Delevingne all jumped to Taylor’s defence, with Halsey sharing: ‘She deserves to own the painstaking labour of her heart. She has surpassed all expectations of what any artist is even capable of.’

Dog The Bounty Hunter’s wife Beth Chapman’s ashes have been spread in the Hawaii’s Waikiki waters.

It is thought that Dog and his children stepped away from the public memorial service which took place on Saturday and celebrated a private moment to say goodbye to Beth.

Dog was missing from the traditional ‘paddle-out’ ceremony at Fort DeRussy Beach in Waikiki on Saturday.

TMZ has since claimed that it was during this time that Dog and Beth’s children boarded a private boat to pay their own quiet tribute to Beth and release some of her ashes in to the waters of Beth’s beloved state that she lived in for many years.

The reality star, best known for her A&E series Dog The Bounty Hunter with her husband, passed away on 26 June in Hawaii after being placed in a medically induced coma on 22 June.

Her husband – real name Duane Chapman – confirmed the news on Twitter.

‘It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain,’ he wrote, as he broke the news to his followers.

‘Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side.’

The 51-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Queen’s Medical Center in Hawaii on Saturday, with Dog The Bounty Hunter saying that he and his family were ‘humbly [asking] everyone to please pray for Beth’.

The Chapman family lawyer Andrew Brettler later confirmed that Beth was ‘sent off in true Hawaiian style, with aloha’, with guests asked to bring ‘ocean-friendly loose flowers’ rather than leis, which are held together with string.

Fans were encouraged to share videos and pictures from the ceremony with the hashtag #AlohaOeMrsDog’.

Brettler explained: ‘Oe means “you” in Hawaiian. It is customary to say “Aloha Oe” especially when saying farewell.’

A service honouring Beth’s memory will take place in Aurora, Colorado on 13 July and it is thought the rest of her ashes will be scattered then.

Announcing the public farewell with an emotive visual tribute, he revealed that the service will be held at the Heritage Christian Center with the ceremony starting at 2pm, local time.

The service appears to be open to the public so that fans of Beth can pay their respects.

Piers Morgan rages at Wimbledon’s ‘insidious attack on chivalry’ as it removes ‘miss’ and ‘mrs’ references

Piers Morgan isn’t a fan of the changes happening at Wimbledon, with the abandoning of the titles used to refer to women, like ‘miss’ and ‘ms’.

Talking about the new rules for umpires on Tuesday morning, the presenter had a rage at the switch up, as the All England Lawn Tennis Club claimed it was time for it to ‘move with the times’.

To Piers, he believed Wimbledon had reacted to ‘this absurd global movement in case anybody in the future might be upset’ at being referred to such a title.

He went head to head with Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid about the change, as he believed it was a direct attack on chivalry and gentlemanly actions

‘No you don’t have to move with the times…what happened to chivalry?’ Piers said, as he turned it around.

Susanna quickly replied: ‘It got lost in the battle for equality.

‘I want people to call me Reid like they call you Morgan!’

The chat then turned to congratulations for Cori Gauff who beat Venus Williams (not long after Piers admitted he was a ball boy at Wimbledon at the age of 15…) after the teenage sensation pulled off a memorable Wimbledon upset by beating Venus Williams in straight sets 6-4 6-4 as the youngest player in the competition beat the oldest.

The talk then turned to that of Gauff’s win (Picture: Getty Images)

But then the talk turned back to the lack of her being referred to as ‘miss’ as per the new rules.

‘You see an umpire being chivalrous saying Miss Gauff,’ Piers said. ‘Suddenly they changed it, so now it’s Gauff…

‘It’s not equality to get rid of chivalry.’

His co-host Reid wondered whether they just call men ‘mister’ and ‘master’ but that only fuelled the chivalry fire more so, as Piers argued the construct of chivalry was exclusive only for the men to use towards women.

‘Chivalry is from men to women, there isn’t even a transgender player where this would be necessary where you might upset the transgender player,’ he fumed, as Susanna wondered why it mattered to know the marital status of the female players.

She’s got a point, you know.

‘Why have traditions,’ Piers said. ‘Why have anything?’

And, well, frankly, it was on.

‘What is wrong with you women? Why can’t you talk a compliment?’ Piers continued with gathering gusto. ‘A lot of women, if you open the door for them, they look angry. How dare you infringe on my feminist rights.

‘It’s polite, its chivalrous, it’s gentlemanly, all the things you’re not allowed to be any more.

‘It’s another insidious attack on chivalry, on men being allowed to be chivalrous. You’re not coming to get us, you’re running away from historic, traditional chivalrous behaviour.’

Seems Mr Morgan has found something that really grinds his gears on a Tuesday morning.

Good Morning Britain returns 6am on ITV.

Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim has quit acting in order to focus on her relationship with her Muslim religion – something the 18-year-old said was threatened by her career.

The star rose to fame in 2016 in the film Dangal, which became one of the highest grossing films of the industry, and earned her the National Award for Best Supporting Actress.

However, Zaira, who is from Indian-administered Kashmir wrote in a lengthy Facebook post over the weekend: ‘This journey has been exhausting, to battle my soul for so long.’

She said it had taken her five years in the industry to come to the revelation.

‘[…] I want to confess that I am not truly happy with this identity i.e my line of work,’ she wrote. ‘For a very long time now it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else.

‘As I had just started to explore and make sense of the things to which I dedicated my time, efforts and emotions and tried to grab hold of a new lifestyle, it was only for me to realise that though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here.’

She added: ‘This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of imaan [faith].

‘While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my imaan [faith], my relationship with my religion was threatened.’

5 years ago I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped my foot in Bollywood, it opened doors of…

As opinion soon polarised in the comments section, she continued: ‘It was always so easy to succumb to the environment that damaged my peace, imaan [faith] and my relationship with Allah.’

The post has since gone viral, with many reacting to her choice of stepping away from the spotlight to focus on religion.

Fellow actress Raveena Tandon shared her pinion of Zaira’s move: ‘Doesn’t matter if two-film olds are ungrateful to the industry that have given them all. Just wish they’d exit gracefully and keep their regressive views to themselves. [sic]’

In a separate tweet she added: ‘Exit is your choice, reason, by all means. Just do not demean it for everyone else’, later adding the industry is ‘one where all work shoulder to shoulder, no difference in caste and religion.’

The Twittersphere was divided, as one disagreed with her choice: ‘Dear #ZairaWasim I respect your decision of quitting movies. I don’t agree with the reasons that you’ve given.

‘I think you’re an incredible actress and you can do so much more with your career. I genuinely hope you’d rethink and continue to pursue Acting… Best wishes!!’

Another felt religion shouldn’t be the reason she quit.

‘Respect choice of Zaira Wasim quitting acting in movies but she can’t invoke religion and faith to justify this,’ one wrote online. ‘Are others in the field some kind of sinners? This dawning of new reality should be her own truth & her own interpretation of religion. Period..’

However, others were praising of the teen’s decision, as one wrote: ‘An 18-year-old woman has come to a personal decision about her faith and career. It may not be the decision you would have made, or one that you would have wished her to make.

‘But it’s still her decision. Let’s just thank #ZairaWasim for her work and wish her well. Case closed.’

As opinion raged on, some thought Zaira’s account had been hacked and she wasn’t stepping down from acting.

The actress hit back at such suggestions, though, as she later tweeted: “This to clarify that none of my social media accounts were or are hacked and are being handled by me personally. Kindly refrain from believing or sharing claims that state otherwise. Thanks’

Katie Price is a longtime fan of Love Island, infamously claiming she received flirty texts from 2017 islander Chris Hughes behind Olivia Attwood’s back.

But now it has been claimed that she’s set her sights on 2019 islander Tommy Fury, the 22-year-old who is currently happily coupled up with Molly-Mae Hague, and Katie is calling on Love Island bosses to get her on to spin-off show Aftersun to help her meet the man she is ‘obsessed’ with.

Sources close to the reality star have alleged that Katie believes she’d be a ‘great match’ for Tommy, a sportsman whose older brother is Tyson Fury, and she’s using her old contacts at ITV to ‘pull some strings to get on Aftersun’.

‘Katie thinks Tommy would be better off with her and needs a real woman with experience in life,’ the insider told The Sun.

‘She’s described him as her ideal man and said she hasn’t had a crush like this in ages.’

However, Katie’s crush is said to have infuriated her boyfriend Kris Boyson, who is not a fan of the show.

The 40-year-old has form when it comes to ex-islanders though, only recently admitting her feud with Chris was over, 18 months after it all kicked off.

Their issues started when Chris appeared on Loose Women as a guest and Katie admitted that she fancied him, joking that he could be her next husband.

Chris later famously denied Katie’s claims that he sent her 52 flirty messages on Snapchat and publicly berated her for suggesting that he did, even going as far as uploading screen shots of conversations between them claiming she had been the flirty one.

In response she alleged that he had deleted his own messages to create his own context.

His then-girlfriend, Olivia, later confirmed that Chris had sent messages to Katie, sharing that she chose to stand by him because their romance was so new.

‘All I know is that whether he did or he didn’t, he didn’t sleep with her, it was just a couple of messages,’ she said.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Katie for comment.
