Joanne Froggatt has heard ‘whisperings’ of a sequel to the Downton Abbey movie.
The film, released last year, reunited the characters from the much-loved ITV drama about the wealthy Crawley family and the staff who live and work below stairs in their mansion.
Fans will be happy to hear that a possible sequel is being touted, but star Joanne, who played Anna on the series, was keeping tight-lipped.
‘I’ve heard whisperings, there’s nothing concrete, no script yet but there is talk of it,’ she told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Monday’s This Morning.
Asked if she would be up for another film, the actress joked: ‘I think I could be persuaded.
‘I’d love to do it again. It’s just so lovely to go back and work with a group of friends.
‘We’ve worked together for over a decade now. You guys know what it’s like. It’s like going back to school after the summer holidays.’
Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes pretty much confirmed plans for a follow up back in January, but stressed that he’s a bit busy at the moment.
According to MailOnline, while speaking at the Winter Television Critics Association press tour, the writer said: ‘Give us a break, guv. Not until I’ve finished the scripts for The Gilded Age.’
The first Downton Abbey movie picked up from the TV programme which ended in 2015.
The film saw the Crawleys on high alert in anticipation of a visit from royalty.
A sequel was pretty much a done deal after the first installment raked in a reported £110 million at the box office.
Focus Features are said to have asked Fellowes to get cracking on another script when they saw the takings.
