Season two of ITV’s Liar is finally back on our screens and fans are already trying to figure out who killed Andrew Earlham?
The upcoming series will see Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt) in one hell of a troubled situation as she’s sent to prison for the murder of twisted Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) – but is she guilty of the crime or does she know who did it?
Speaking ahead of series two, Joanne revealed that she was satisfied by the ending.
‘It’s a very satisfying story. The audience will be kept guessing,’ she told Metro.co.uk.
When reading the script Joanne admitted that she kept changing her mind as to who the killer was.
Season one of the gripping drama focused on the bitter battle between the two of them, where viewers were left guessing if Andrew had raped Laura, or if Laura was making it up for revenge.
It ended with Andrew’s dead body lying on the ground with a cut throat – so now the next game is to figure out who’s responsible for that in the tangled tale.
Here are all the burning questions we have after episode one
Is Laura telling the truth or is she a liar?
At the moment, it looks like Laura has taken the fall, by her stating ‘I wanted Andrew to suffer’ as she’s locked up for the crime.
New cast member Katherine Kelly will play DI Karen Renton, who joins DS Rory Maxwell (Danny Webb) as his new partner in investigating Andrew’s past to identify his killer, and in the first episode, she puts the pressure on Laura to confess.
During the episode, she said: ‘I wanted Andrew to suffer. It’s all I could think about, and when I found out he was dead I was relieved that he couldn’t hurt anyone else the way he hurt me.
‘The way he hurt so many people, ruined so many lives.’
But then it takes a twist and anyone who’s seen season one knows that there’s more than one person who would’ve wanted Andrew dead.
Who knew Andrew was at his boat and why didn’t the police find him?
Andrew’s son Luke (Jamie Flatters) knows about the boat so could easily have assumed his dad would flee there, but did he tell anyone?
Before he got murdered Andrew also phoned his friend Oliver Graham (Sam Spruell), who he asked to ‘do him a favour’ but did he help his friend or did he tell someone where he was?
Oliver is a mysterious new character, described as an ‘enigmatic figure’. His connection with Andrew’s past will become clear as the series progresses, and we’ll uncover the strange turn of events that brought him and Andrew together years ago in Edinburgh.
Winnie’s (Amy Nuttall) partner Carl works at the dock and he clearly has a grudge against Dr. Earlham.
Why did DI Harmon call?
DI Harmon who claimed she was raped by Andrew in series one called DS Rory Maxwell as she wanted him to know the ‘truth’ about Laura and Andrew, as she mysteriously tells him ‘There’s something you should know about Laura and Andrew Earlham.
‘I need to tell you the truth.’
WHAT IS THE TRUTH?
Why did police find Andrew’s car key at Laura’s flat?
Laura is arrested after police find Andrew’s car key in her flat which Laura denied, but the question is how did it get there?
Andrew couldn’t have planted the key because he’s dead, right? Laura is adamant she had no idea where the key came from and claims that someone planted it there, but Laura is a victim so why would someone want to set her up?
However, the key could have been placed at Laura’s flat at any point (even before Andrew’s death), One theory could be that when Andrew found out that Laura had discovered the videos in his shed, he could have planted the key as he already knew his fate?
Or his son Luke held a grudge against his teacher as soon as the rape allegations came out, so he could also have put the key there.
Luke ends up in the hospital, but was it an accident?
At this point, we have no idea if Luke knows if his dad is dead or not. Towards the end of episode one, Luke is rushed into hospital after ‘he threw himself off the pier’.
We have no idea if he pulls through or whether it was an accident or if he was pushed.
We will just have to wait for episode two to find out.
Liar airs on Mondays at 9pm on ITV.
