Fox has cancelled its drama Almost Family after just one season.

Starring Pitch Perfect’s Brittany Snow as only child Julia Bechley and Timothy Hutton who played her father Leon, Almost Family was among the lowest-rated shows on the Big Four networks.

The series follows the life of Julia, who finds her life turned upside down after her father reveals he used his own genetic material to conceive dozens of children.

Its 13-episode run ended on 22 February and the final two episodes were shunted off to a Saturday night well after the bulk of episodes had aired, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The Universal Television/Fox Entertainment series was created by Annie Weisman (About a Boy), who executive produced with Jason Katims, Jeni Mulein, Imogen Banks, Sharon Levy, and Randy Zisk and premiered to modest numbers but never really caught on with viewers.

Excluding the two final episodes on Feb. 22, Almost Family averaged a meager 2.5 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49 with a week of delayed viewing.

Both figures rank in the bottom five of shows on ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC this season.

The news also follows the sexual assault allegations made against lead star Timothy.

On Monday 2 March, Buzzfeed News published allegations from model and actress Sera Johnston, now 50, claiming that she was raped by Hutton when she was just 14, in 1983 in Vancouver, where he was filming the movie Iceman.

The Haunting of Hill House star has vehemently denied the allegations made and there is no suggestion that it is connected to the cancelling of the show.
