The Crown’s latest addition to the cast Tom Byrne has made his debut on set as Prince Andrew – joining Josh O’Connor’s Prince Charles and Emma Corrin’s Princess Diana.
Tom was revealed yesterday to be joining the show as the young version of the prince, who recently in real-life became centre of a scandal after revealing himself to be friends with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
But the series, which will be set in the late 70s and 80s, will see Prince Andrew as a family man as he meets and marries Sarah Ferguson.
The pair married in 1986, having two children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, before divorcing in 1996.
In the scenes, which depict the 1984 Buckingham Palace easter egg hunt, Andrew can be seen engaged in conversation with pals and Charles, as children play nearby.
This includes a toddler version of Prince William, who is later seen in Charles’s arms for a scene.
Actress Emma was sporting a baby belly to depict Diana’s pregnancy with her second child, Prince Harry.
Bearing a striking resemblance to the prince at the time, Tom can be seen wearing full ‘royal casual’ in a stone blazer, jumper and maroon tie.
At the time, Andrew was third in line for the throne, but is now eighth.
At the end of last year, the real Andrew removed himself entirely from royal duties and partronages, following the disastrous interview with Emily Maitlis in which he attempted to defend his relationship with Epstein.
He also denied and tried to combat allegations that he had slept with trafficking victims Virginia Roberts Guiffre during his time as the ‘Party Prince’ – including once when she was only 17.
He slammed the allegations claiming to have been at Pizza Express in Woking at the time with his daughters.
Tom, 25, has only recently graduated from Bristol’s Old Vic Theatre School before being snapped up to play the Duke Of York.
He’s yet to publicly comment about his challenging new role.
Metro.co.uk has contacted his reps for further comment. Netflix declined to comment.
The Crown 1-3 is available now on Netflix.
