Former Britain’s Got Talent star Jonathan Antoine has told how the ITV show ‘saved’ him from a very dark place.
You may remember Jonathan from his audition in 2012 when he was just 17-years-old.
During series six, a very shy Jonathan stepped on to the BGT stage with his pal Charlotte Jaconelli, where they blew the entire audience away with their beautiful rendition of The Prayer.
The duo, who made it to the final, just missed out on the crown after being beaten by dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey.
Although it didn’t stop there for the opera singer, who has performed to crowds all over the world and gone on to make four albums.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about his time on the talent show and what life was like before his audition, he began: ‘I always had the idea that if I auditioned on BGT that it would be like the ugly duckling story.
‘It’s not an insult to myself but it’s public perception and it’s a thing I have learned.’
He continued: ‘I was in a super dark place at the time, I had dropped out of school because I couldn’t handle it and I couldn’t interact with people, I was super lonely.
‘And I got a random text one day saying “do you want to go on this TV show?” and I thought I had nothing to lose.’
‘And in a very strange way it saved me,’ he added.
Jonathan, who is now 25, has been working for the past three years to release his fifth album titled Going The Distance.
The star has collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Chris Walen to produce the album.
‘I am so so proud, not just of me but of all of the incredible people that helped to make it a reality,’ he commented.
‘I am blessed to be able to do the job that I love to do.’
Britain’s Got Talent returns on Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
