Danny Dyer delivered one of the most, er, unique history lessons of all time as he put his East End geezer charm to use to teach BBC Bitesize users about Henry VIII.
The EastEnders actor put his personal spin on the new series, talking about how Henry VIII ‘got the hump with the Catholic Church’ for refusing to allow divorces.
In a brief rundown of the monarch’s complicated family and religious history – which resulted in Henry founding the Church Of England so he could get divorced – Danny also talks about him chopping off the ‘nut’ of two of his wives (that’s slang for head) and his divorces.
He then ended the three-minute special by telling kids that as much as they might not want to, they have to try and keep learning as best they can.
‘I understand the world’s gone crackers, and I understand that the school year has changed,’ he told viewers. ‘But we’ve got to keep learning, we’ve got to keep educating ourselves. It’s so important.
‘So, if you want to keep educating yourself, remember, go online to BBC Bitesize. Love you all, and stay safe.’
All lessons for each year group include songs from CBBC’s Horrible Histories starring Rowan Atkinson, which turn Henry’s unstable love life into an easy-to-learn song.
Students will also be encouraged to test their learning by creating a fact file on the King, producing a timeline, and filling in a worksheet from the education provider, Twinkl.
All lessons are available now on BBC Bitesize.
