Sesame Street is set to lose one of its longest-serving residents after it was announced that Sonia Manzano – who plays Maria on the show – is retiring.
Sonia, 65, has been a part of the children’s favourite for over four decades, making her first appearance on the third series of the show in 1971.
However, she revealed news of her departure at a conference of librarians in San Francisco – who later broke the news on Twitter:
