It was the last ever episode of My Mad Fat Diary and fans are heartbroken.
The moving finale of the third season of the Channel 4 drama, which was broadcast tonight, saw Rae in hospital and struggling to cope with her illness.
Actress Sharon Rooney, who plays Rae, told Radio Times that her character’s mental health issues have earned the series a devoted fan base.
She said: ‘People get in touch and say they really identified with the show and we don’t sugar coat problems.
