Sir Paul McCartney has referred to John Lennon as a martyr in a recent interview.
Paul McCartney said Lennon, who was shot in 1980, is more famous because of the circumstances surrounding his death.
In an interview with Esquire, Macca said: ‘John did a lot of great work, yeah. And post-Beatles he did more great work, but he also did a lot of not-great work.
‘Now the fact that he’s now martyred has elevated him to a James Dean [level] and beyond.’
However he added that he ‘agreed’ with the way his Beatles bandmate is perceived.
