Would you ever dare to mess with someone who has constructed a suit of armour or an intricate gown from scratch? They’re seriously tough, talented mo-fos, part of a loyal community dedicated to celebrating their favourite comic, film or game characters by dressing as them.
And yet they are often sexually harassed at Comic-Cons.
A survey by Bitch Magazine last year revealed that 13 per cent of respondents had received unwanted sexual comments at a convention, while 8 per cent had been groped, assaulted or raped at a convention.
130,000 people attended the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) last year. That means that around 10,000 people could have been sexually harassed during the convention.
