If you want to carry on watching the likes of Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders in years to come, you may well find yourself paying extra for the privilege – that is if the shows still exist at all.
That’s because some of the BBC’s biggest programmes could potentially find themselves under threat in the wake of the government’s plans for the licence fee and the Beeb’s future.
Culture secretary John Whittingdale told Parliament that the fee could be replaced with a subscription for ‘premium content’, as part of the debate over the future of the corporation.
