BBC Radio 1 breakfast show mainstay Chris Sawyer has revealed he’s quit his job with Greg James after 15 years at the station.

The presenter took to social media platform X on Wednesday to share the news, announcing that his last show was scheduled for Friday.

‘It’s my last week at Radio 1! I’ve been involved with more nonsense than I ever thought it would be possible to fit into a quick 15 years,’ he wrote.

‘Friday will be my last show with Greg and the Breakfast team before I run off to a whole new world of mischief.’

Fans mourned the loss of a broadcast favourite, as he was dubbed ‘an absolute legend’ by listeners.

‘Not a term to be used lightly!’ added listener Tim Johns.

‘Ahhhhh Chris this is really sad. I know Greg is the face (or voice) of the breakfast show but all of you feel like family, especially after the pandemic, you were the only voices I heard for months!’ wrote Katie Morgan on X.

‘Thanks for all the laughs (and some tears) good luck in your new venture.’

‘Good luck Chris. Thanks for helping wake me up every morning. You will be missed!’ added Mark Badhams.

‘Chris! This week has been emotional enough ffs,’ posted Brenda. ‘The show won’t be the same without. Best of luck in your new venture.’

The producer shared a thread of some of his highlights and fond memories from his job, including his first ‘of many’ hugs with Greg on the breakfast show, Joe Lycett in the Live Lounge and when his embarrassing typo made headlines last year.
