Emojis are going from the small screens of our smartphones to the big screen after Sony Pictures secured the rights to a movie about them.
Apparently the animation branch of the studio shelled out nearly seven figures, according to Deadline, at an auction for a project co-written by writer and actor Eric Siegel and Kung Fu Panda Secrets Of The Masters director Anthony Leondis.
Apparently Warner Bros and Paramount were the other studios bidding for the Emoji project but it seems Sony’s Animation president Kristine Belson wanted it more.
Technically there aren’t any rights to the Japanese idiograms to buy so there could be any number of follow-up films after Sony brings this one out.
