A new study has found that players who abuse women in online games are really just online bullies worried about ‘losing to a girl’.
The studio used Halo 3 (which seems an odd choice, given its age, but whatever) to test the behaviour of gamers, and found a simple connection between sexist comments and the skill of the player.
According to the study it’s not so much because of straight misogyny but less capable players trying to compensate for their embarrassment at not being as good as others, and trying to raise their profile amongst the whole group.
