If there’s one person you can rely on for praise it’s your mum, and Benedict Cumberbatch got exactly that at the press night for his starring role in Hamlet.
The Oscar-nominated actor plays the title character, in Lyndsey Turner’s adaption of the classic William Shakespeare play, and his mother Wanda Ventham said: ‘[He] ‘a bloody good Hamlet. Extraordinarily proud.
‘He was quite lively growing up, but I thought that was phenomenal.’
Many other critics praised Benedict’s turn in the play, set in modern times, though it was clear that his performance stood out from the rest.
