The BBC has been producing shows for children for nearly eighty years, but the brand known as CBBC celebrates its thirtieth birthday on 9 September – yes, that’s three decades since Phillip Schofield stepped into the Broom Cupboard.
To celebrate, we’ve taken a walk down memory lane (and watched an awful lot of YouTube footage) to bring you just some of the highlights.
1. The Broom Cupboard
The whole point behind the brand that we’ve now come to know as CBBC was to give children’s TV its own identity. The BBC did this with an established studio, and an entertaining, dedicated presenter who’d interact with his viewers.
