It turns out that rumours of Terry Gilliam’s death were greatly exaggerated.
Variety magazine falsely announced the film director’s demise last night in a rather awkward blunder.
An obituary on the Monty Python comedy troupe member was published on the entertainment trade magazine’s website and remained up for a few minutes before anyone realised the mistake.
‘Director Terry Gilliam, the only American member of the Monty Python comedy troupe and an Oscar nominee for the screenplay to his film Brazil has died,’ read the article.
Shocked fans immediately began tweeting tributes for the 74-year-old, but Variety soon took the piece down and clarified that he was indeed alive and well.
