Benedict Cumberbatch has recorded a special introduction to a charity single in aid of Syrian refugees.

The re-issue of the Crowded House song Help Is Coming has been edited to feature footage from the camps around Europe and highlights the plight of thousands fleeing Syria.

In the message, Cumberbatch reads from the Warsan Shire poem Home.

‘No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark. You only run for the border when you see your whole city running as well. You have to understand that no one puts children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land,’ the Sherlock star says.

Recorded in his dressing room at The Barbican, which is staging his version of Hamlet, Cumberbatch adds a personal plea before the music video begins.
