Forty-five years ago today the world lost Jimi Hendrix at the age of 27.
Regarded as one of the most influential musicians of all time, in his short four years as an artist he changed the way guitarists play the electric guitar forever.
He was in the middle of one of the best years of his career in 1970; he had closed the 1969 Woodstock festival, performed at the 1970 Isle of Wight festival – then the largest musical event of all time – and hit number one for the first time in America with his third album Electric Ladyland, when he sadly died an accidental death due to barbiturate-related asphyxia.
