Joshua Phillips was 14-years-old when he stabbed, strangled and bludgeoned his 8-year-old neighbour Maddie Clifton to death in 1998.
Her decomposing body was discovered underneath Phillips’ waterbed almost a week later after scores of volunteers and police tried to search for her.
Phillips claimed he had been playing baseball with Maddie in his garden when the ball hit Maddie in the eye, and she began screaming. He said he took her to his bedroom so they could hide from his strict father who was on his way back to the house.
