Actor Billy Zane has explained why Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Jack had to die in that infamous Titanic scene.
Fans have long debated why character Rose – played by Kate Winslet – allowed Jack to plunge to his icy death instead of scooting over and sharing the floating wooden door with her on-screen sweetheart in the 1997 film.
But actor Zane, who played Rose’s arrogant fiance Cal Hockley, has lept to Winslet’s character’s defence telling People magazine Jack had to die.
Speaking to the mag, he said: ‘Your hero had to die. I don’t know what else would have done it. It had to happen.’
