He might already have been the subject of many tributes, but this latest way of honouring Leonard Nimoy’s memory is one of the most fitting yet.
This time it’s astronomers who are paying their respects to the late Star Trek actor – who died in February aged 83 – by naming an asteroid after him.
News of the space rock in question – named 4864 Nimoy – was announced by the Minor Planet Centre last week, who also revealed that it was originally discovered in 1988 by Belgian astronomer Henri Debehogne.
The mountain-sized rock is around six miles wide and is in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, orbiting the Sun approximately once every 3.9 years.
