Back in 1977 it might have seemed that Princess Leia was the only female in the galaxy, apart from Aunt Beru.
For the entirety of the classic original trilogy only a handful of women shared the screen with Carrie Fisher and while the prequel trilogy introduced many more – including of course Luke and Leia’s mother Padme – and the animated Clone Wars and Rebels brought us leading female characters in Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndula and Sabine Wren – the balance of the Force was heavily tipped in favour of the boys.
