Fortnite has been one of the biggest gaming hits in recent memory so it is no surprise it has made a lot of money, but the scale of its income might just shock you.
The game has now been downloaded over 100 million times on iOS and with a release on Android finally happening in the next couple of months, downloads don’t look set to slow down.
The game itself is free, but the in-app purchases is where they rake in the revenue with players swapping cash for V-bucks which will then buy them outfits, special moves and weapons.
Those V-bucks have proved very, very popular and made the creators, Epic Games, very wealthy indeed.
How much money has Fortnite made?
According to research by SuperData in May, Fortnite had already made $1.2 billion (£913,452,000).
The average spending on the game is now around £2 million per day, with it hitting a record of $3 million spent in-game on 13 July.
It is now being widely predicted that Fortnite will have made $2 billion (£1,522,210,000) by the end of 2018.
How well have Epic Games and their CEO Tim Sweeney done out of Fortnite?
Obviously, very well.
Epic Games is now thought to be worth somewhere between $5 and $8 billion and is expected to rise to around $14 billion, according to Bloomberg.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Sweeney himself is worth around $75 million (£57,087,375) although that is constantly rising.
Sweeney is the controlling shareholder in Epic Games, the company he started, although he sold 40 per cent to Tencent in 2012 at an $825 million valuation.
The worldwide Fortnite obsession looks set to continue for some time to come so expect these eye-watering numbers to get even bigger.
