Travis Scott is in hot water over his latest album and it’s not even hit the shelves yet.
The rapper’s latest album is set to drop tomorrow but rather than its lyrical content causing offence (the norm with music) it’s the album artwork – and not in the way you may think.
Astroland’s cover depicts the entrance to a dilapidated and retro-tinged theme park, which features a giant cast of Travis’ head front-and-centre – though it’s the semi-naked models littered around the foreground posing that will catch the eye.
However, one of the models in the original snap (taken by the legendary David LaChapelle) has been edited out of the final image for the album cover; a decision which has caused people to accuse Travis of transphobia.
The claims of transphobia have been levelled at the Texan rapper after model Amanda Lepore was wiped from the original shot when it came to the final edit.
Though the model iconic 50-year-old model took the whole thing in her stride, she ask why the decision had been made.
‘It was great being part of @LaChapelleland ‘s incredible photograph of @trvisXX’s album cover but I’m curious why I’m not on the picture @trvisXX posted?’
Well said.
However, friends and followers of the model seemingly took the edit to heart more than Amanda.
One of those was Ru Paul’s Drag Race season 10 winner Aquaria, who called out the Goosebump actor for supposedly being transphobic.
‘Also fun fact: u can tell exactly the mindset and beliefs of (presumably) travis and (specifically) his fans by the repulsive remarks they share about a very valid complaint about the artwork regardless of who’s complaining. Grab a towel. Your phobias are showing [sic].
‘Also I know it’s hard to resist sometimes but, in the nicest way to my supporters and followers, there’s rarely a good reason to fight back to someone with 4 followers. Followers aren’t everything but their message isn’t being heard so it’s best not to amplify it when noticed.’
Perez Hilton was another who questioned whether the decision to remove Amanda was a case of transphobia was, who tweeted: ‘Very disappointing that Travis Scott edited out Amanda Lepore out of this David LaChapelle photo. Transphobic????’
And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
Travis has not spoken out about the decision to edit Amanda out of the image yet.
When asked about the final shot didn’t match the original, LaChapelle recently said that Amanda ‘just upstaged every one’ and that she ‘knows the T’.
