Capcom has announced a new Monster Hunter game, to be released in Japan this year, but it’s unclear whether it’s a mainline sequel or not.
Any remaining hopes that Monster Hunter will be appearing on a non-Nintendo format appear to have been dashed, as Capcom announce a follow-up to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the 3DS.
Whether or not Monster Hunter X (pronounced ‘cross’) counts as a mainline sequel or not is currently unclear.
Number five in the series is about the time that many games stop putting numbers in their name, but on the other hand Monster Hunter X does apparently reuse maps and assets from the last game.
