Fleabag is back with its second season and episode two brought with it yet another Killing Eve crossover, thanks to Fiona Shaw’s appearance.

Fiona had starred in Killing Eve as Carolyn Martens, the head of MI6’s Russian section. Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote Killing Eve.

Phoebe stars as Kate (Fleabag) in Fleabag and created the series. Fiona now stars in Fleabag as Kate’s counsellor. You get where we’re going with this…

Anyway, the connection to Killing Eve wasn’t lost on fans and they loved seeing Fiona and Phoebe on screen together.

Fans have been waiting three years for Phoebe’s titular character to make a comeback and back in the grips of her dysfunctional family.

The first episode saw Fleabag endure an uncomfortable dinner as part of her Godmother and Dad’s engagement celebrations, while episode two saw her start therapy.

Fleabag’s return was branded a ‘work of art’ by viewers on Twitter and some even went as far to say it’s the ‘best show on TV in the past decade’, so episode two had big shoes to fill.

But luckily, thanks to Fiona’s addition, it didn’t disappoint.

Loving every minute of Shaw as Fleabag’s therapist, viewers shared their thoughts on Twitter. They wrote: ‘#Fleabag Fiona Shaw. Sublime.

‘Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Fiona Shaw A DUO #Fleabag.

‘Fiona Shaw as a counsellor is everything I wanted and didn’t know I needed. #Fleabag.’

One fan tweeted: ‘How do make #Fleabag even better? Add some Fiona Shaw. That therapy scene encapsulated the whole show: funny, shocking and heart-wrenching.’

Another said: ‘Just when you think #Fleabag couldn’t get any more brilliant, up pops Fiona Shaw!’

‘Fiona Shaw as a counsellor is everything I wanted and didn’t know I needed. #Fleabag,’ one viewer added.

Fleabag finally follows through on her dad’s suggestion to go and see a counsellor and jokes when asked why she’s sought out therapy: ‘I spent most of my adult life using sex to deflect from the screaming void inside my empty heart.’

No beating around the bush there, then.

Season two will see Fleabag battling it out with God, with the series’ synopsis teasing: ‘Fleabag is back for a second bite, and this time she is going toe to toe with the man upstairs.

‘In an unexpected twist of fate, our lost little rascal meets a Priest (Andrew Scott) who jolts her into seeing the world in a different way… with hope and faith at the core of Series 2, our heroine finds herself in the midst of a battle she is determined to win: Fleabag Vs God.’

Fleabag is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
