Chicago Police have confirmed that claims of a ‘suicide pact’ taking place between R Kelly’s girlfriends at his home are not genuine.
Reports claim police officers had ‘rushed to Kelly’s home’ after receiving a tip off about the ‘suicide pact’ from an anonymous caller.
TMZ reports that the call was a ‘bogus call’, while Chicago’s Police Department confirmed to People that while officers responded to the call, the incident was ‘not bonafide’.
It’s reported the anonymous caller did not specify when the alleged suicide was going to take place or any further details.
Chicago Police issued a statement to the publication that read: ‘Police received a call from an out of state anonymous caller stating that people at the location were going to carry out a suicide pact.
‘Police on scene conducted a wellness check and it is not a bonafide incident.’
Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg added: ‘It is offensive that anyone gives this any credibility.’
Metro.co.uk have reached out to Kelly’s rep for further comment.
Kelly has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He was arrested and released from custody after $100k of his $1million bail was posted.
Kelly has denied all allegations against him and broke his silence on the charges by appearing on CBS’ This Morning.
He protested his innocence to interviewer Gayle King and said he was ‘fed up of all the lies’.
The artist claimed that he would be ‘stupid’ to have engaged in such allegations, given his past sexual abuse cases that he was not convicted for.
Kelly said: ‘People are going back to my past… they are trying to add all of this stuff now to that, to make all of this stuff going on feel real to people. Whether they’re old rumours, new rumours, future rumours, they’re not true.’
Kelly was arrested for a second time after being charged with failing to pay child support.
He allegedly owed more than eight months in payments for his three children, which hadn’t been paid to his ex-wife Andrea (also known as Drea).
Kelly was released on Saturday after the payment he owed – $161,000 (£122,000) – was paid by an unknown person.
