Hamilton composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has launched a campaign to save One Day At A Time after it was cancelled by Netflix.
The 39-year-old playwright and lyricist took to Twitter to ask whether television network NBC could save up Hispanic sitcom, just like it saved Brooklyn Nine Nine when it was dropped by Fox last year.
‘Hey @nbc…I hear you like comedies with built-in fan bases that do even better on YOUR network than at their previous homes…#saveODAAT,’ Lin-Manuel wrote.
One Day At A Time cast members thanked Lin-Manuel for his efforts, with Justina Machado, who plays Penelope Alvarez, replying: ‘You are such a light Lin I’m honored to know you. Gracias.’
Actress Isabelle Gomez, who plays Elena in the sitcom, also showed his appreciation, adding: ‘You’re an angel. Thank you for ur endless support Lin.’
She’s also confident that the show will find a new network, writing: ‘ we might find #ODAAT another home. This isn’t over yet.’
Stars of One Day At A Time have been mourning the streaming giant’s decision too, with Todd Grinnell leading the way.
‘This is heartbreaking and I so wish it wasn’t true,’ he tweeted. ‘But I’m keeping the faith that @OneDayAtATime finds a new home. THANK YOU to all of you who’ve watched and supported. We see you and we love you. Don’t quit before the miracle happens.’
One Day At A Time is available to air on Netflix.
