YouTube star Lilly Singh is set to take over NBC’s late night spot after Carson Daly stepped down.
She’s definitely living up to her ‘Superwoman’ nickname.
The 30-year-old, who boasts a following of more than 14 million, will take over the 1:35am talk show spot with her show A Little Late With Lilly Singh, with the signing making her the first woman to host a late-night talk show on a ‘Big 4’ network.
Lilly said in a statement: ‘An Indian-Canadian woman with her own late night show? Now that is a dream come true.’
She quipped: ‘I’m thrilled to bring it to life on NBC, and I hope my parents consider this to be as exciting as a grandchild.’
NBC late night executive VP Doug Vaughan added: ‘Lilly is truly a star and we’re thrilled to welcome her to our NBC family. She is a multi-talented performer who will surely have a great rapport with not only all her guests but also with our devoted late-night audience. We can’t wait to get started.’
The half-hour show will see the Canadian star interviewing famous faces, and doing what she does best – creating and starring in comedy sketches.
Lilly excitedly announced the news during her interview on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, clarifying: ‘It’s not Jimmy’s spot.’
That could have got awkward.
She added that the show will premiere: ‘Fallish, probably September,’ and she plans to ‘make it inclusive, add comedy segements, interview people, and really create something that I believe in.’
‘Now I have more than three staff members!’ she marvelled.
The announcement comes after Lilly melted fans’ hearts with her powerful coming out message.
Revealing that she’s bisexual, she told her viewers: ‘Female, Coloured, Bisexual. Throughout my life these have proven to be obstacles from time to time. But now I’m fully embracing them as my superpowers.
‘No matter how many “boxes” you check, I encourage you to do the same x.’
