Tom Payne has moved on from The Walking Dead’s Jesus – but we’re just not quite there yet.
The actor saluted ‘new beginnings’ on Thursday night as he finally cut off Paul Rovia’s long locks, four months after the character’s death.
Actor Tom officially buried his AMC alter-ego, sharing a picture of at least 10-inch strands in elastic bands, in front of a mirror.
The actor is yet to unveil is new look but it’s known that his next role will be in TV movie Prodigal Son.
Jesus was killed off in the November 2018 episode Evolution and despite fans’ shock and disappointment, the actor confirmed at the time that he was ready to ‘move on’.
Tom held onto the distinctive beard and long-hair look – that earned his character the nickname ‘Jesus’ – for the duration of his three-year tenure, but by 2018 it had gotten a little out of control.
In October, he said: ‘Honestly, like, I’m [on] Walking Dead right now and I kind of have to with the long hair and the beard, but I’d love to get back into film.
‘I love the completed arc. Like episodic television is great and especially Walking Dead is amazing, but it’s nice to be on a project where you know your beginning, middle, and end, so I’m looking forward to maybe doing some more stuff like that.’
Looking ahead to Fox drama pilot Prodigal Son, Tom replacing Iron Fist star Finn Jones.
Plot teasers hint that in Tom’s role as Malcolm he will ‘use his twisted genius and razor-sharp instincts as a forensic profiler to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers.
‘All the while, he’ll be dealing with a manipulative mother (Bellamy), annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses.
‘Intelligent but deeply damaged, Malcolm has a self-deprecating sense of humor and a surprising level of compassion.’
