Freddie Prinze Jr has joined the cast of The CW’s new Nancy Drew series playing the role of the teen sleuth’s family.
The 43-year-old actor will appear opposite Kennedy McMann in the TV adaptation of the classic book series.
The series will follow 18-year-old Nancy in the summer after she has graduated from high school.
As she prepares to leave for college, a family tragedy strikes and keeps her in her hometown for another year – but soon she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation whch will see her uncover secrets about loved ones – including her father.
Prinze Jr will play Nancy’s father, Carson Drew, a ‘dynamic attorney who has become estranged from Nancy following the recent death of his beloved wife’.
McHann is a newcomer who has appeared in recent episodes of Law & Order: SVU and Gone.
Charmed actress Leah Lewis will also star as George, a tough girl from the wrong side of the tracks who becomes a suspect in the central murder case.
Nancy Drew was first created as a female counterpart to Edward Stratemeyer’s Hardy Boys series.
The character first appeared in 1930 but the books were were ghostwritten by a number of authors and published under the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene.
The TV series is being produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the team behind The OC.
