The Voice contestant Jimmy Balito is performing an emotional song in tonight’s episode after losing his father to cancer.

Despite his grief, the 22-year-old performer has bravely decided to carry on the competition and performs Radiohead’s High and Dry as the knockouts begin.

The last time that Jimmy was on the show for the Battles round, his dad was seen in the audience supporting him and told the cameras: ‘I’m so proud and he is the future of me… and the future of us.

‘No doubt about that.’

A teaser clip shows the contestant channelling raw emotion as he sings for a place in the final, hotting up the competition for his 15 rivals.

Jimmy paid tribute to his late dad Colin on Instagram in January, writing: ‘He was the greatest, kindest, funniest and humble man you could ever wish to meet.

‘I loved him with all my heart and will continue to strive to be even half the man that he was.’

Just 16 acts remain in the competition and they’re all competing for a place in the semi-finals.

Judges Olly, Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am can only pick one act from their teams to go through, but luckily they’ve got Anne-Marie, James Arthur, Olly Alexander and Nicole Scherzinger on hand to help them make their decisions.

However, The Voice is shaking things up a little bit this weekend because for the first time, one of the eliminated contestants will be saved by the public thanks to a Lifeline vote from fans via the show’s app.

The Voice airs Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV.
