A mural has been unveiled in Southend-on-Sea in honour of Keith Flint.
The Prodigy star died on 4 March at the age of 49, with an inquest confirming that Flint took his own life.
While Keith was born in East London, he moved to Essex as a child – and in honour of the dance icon, local Southend artist John Bulley has created a mural in his likeness in the town centre.
Less than an hour from Keith’s home in Great Dunmow, Bulley has painted a mural which covers an entire wall under a railway bridge, and sees the star holding a microphone.
Flint’s tattoos are included in the painting, while he is sporting a mohawk and is painted in side profile.
Bulley – who was commissioned to create the tribute by Southend Business Improvement District (BID) – has entitled the mural Twisted Animator, referencing The Prodigy hit Firestarter.
Southend BID manager Alison Dewey told the Southend Echo: ‘ I thought it might be a nice tribute to a brilliant Essex frontman and I, like many people of my generation who experienced the rave scene of the late 80’s and 90’s, loved The Prodigy!
‘John’s painting is a wonderful way to remember Keith.’
Dewey added: ‘John’s painting of Keith follows on from his previous works in the town centre and on the seafront. People will remember his eye-catching Princess Leia from Star Wars on Eastern Esplanade and portrait of The Libertines’ singer Pete Doherty, in Nelson Mews.’
Another Flint mural by Ellwood-Leo popped up on London’s Brick Lane, with Liam Howlett sharing a picture of the art on The Prodigy’s official Instagram account.
He wrote: ‘Thank you people for all the tributes , they have really touched us and kept us going this week, This one is @ellwoodleo , brick lane London Town. Massive respect.’
An official statement from the band after Keith’s death read: ‘It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint.
‘A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.’
