Lionel Richie seriously couldn’t have looked happier as he rubbed shoulders with Prince Charles and Sir Tom Jones in Barbados.
The pretty powerful trio came together to celebrate Lionel being named as an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust International – an extension of UK charity The Prince’s Trust to support those aged 13-30 overseas.
Lionel is the charity’s first global ambassador and met with Prince Charles in Barbados, hosting a reception on Tuesday to announce the news.
It came amid Prince Charles’ Caribbean tour with wife Camilla and apparently, the royal poked fun at Lionel’s hit song Hello while thanking him for coming on board.
‘It must have been you I was looking for,’ Prince Charles told him. Oh, we couldn’t love him any more for that.
Sir Tom – who has become a fan favourite as a coach on The Voice UK – had performed at the reception, looking dapper in a grey suit, while man of the moment Lionel was dressed to impress in a tailored navy two-piece suit and patterned tie.
He was seen shaking hands with Prince Charles and looked pretty chuffed with his new position.
Addressing the role, Lionel said: ‘This is something the two of us together, His Royal Highness and myself, it will be something we can get together fast and get around the world.
‘Between my connections and His Royal Highness’ connections, we can do a lot of good for a lot of people.
‘Remember now, kids with dreams… that’s the whole world.’
Along with his new duties, Lionel has been busy as a judge on American Idol, alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
