Jack Reacher is set to become a TV series on Amazon without its previous leading man Tom Cruise.

Amazon secured the rights to develop a series based on Lee Child’s novels, which was previously searching for a home back in November last year.

According to Variety, Nick Santora (Scorpion) will write, showrun and executive produce the new series, with Childs on board as executive producer too alongside Don Granger and Christopher McQuarrie.

Tom Cruise, who played the action hero in two feature films, won’t be reprising his role, after Child previously admitted he was ‘too short’ to play the 6 ft 5in tall character.

‘I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun,’ Child told BBC Radio Manchester.

‘But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it’s a big component of who he is.

‘The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you’re all a little nervous just for that first minute. And Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality.’

Amazon is slowly building a home as the place for spy thriller dramas, with Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski releasing last year.

It’s unclear who will replace Cruise in the series, so it’s time to wind up and grind the rumour mill. Alexander Skarsgard? Anyone?

Jack Reacher will be released on Amazon Prime.
