Games Inbox: Aerith in Final Fantasy VII Remake, best 2D Zelda, and Marvel’s Avengers worries

Final Fantasy VII Remake - should her story remain the same?
Final Fantasy VII Remake – should her story remain the same?

The morning Inbox is not impressed by EA’s attempts to rebrand loot boxes, as another reader defends Microsoft’s E3 and the new Battletoads.

To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@ukmetro.co.uk

Alternative history

So here’s a question I’ve seen a few people asking lately: should Final Fantasy VII Remake allow you to change what happens to Aerith? I’m not going to spell out what happens to her in the original game but I assume most people know already, whether they’ve played the game or not, which is one reason why I think Square Enix might be thinking of changing things, or at least offering the option at some point.

These Watchmen of Fate things that are in the game now sound like they could be connected with changing the original plot and I would be fine with that if it was like a choice you made at certain points in the game. I imagine some people will think that’s sacrilege but what’s most interesting to me about the remake is that Square do seem willing to change things up and add to the story, which I am all for.

I can already smell the Internet petitions though so I’ll be interested to see if they go that far and if people accept it. They’ve already said they’ll incorporate stuff from the spin-offs though so I think the chance is there. Curious to know whether other people think it’s a good idea or not.

Insufficient data

The more I think about what was shown at E3 the more I think Square Enix made a mistake with Marvel’s Avengers. Whatever was shown behind closed doors still hasn’t been released to the public, but even when it does I don’t get the impression that anything shows why the game justifies being played again and again like Destiny.

I know they avoided comparisons with any specific games but if they’re giving away characters and levels for free there’s got to be the expectation that you’re playing them again and again. Because who’s going to buy lots of costumes for a character if you’re only playing them once or twice?

Maybe later levels are so big or open-ended and it all makes sense but at the moment it all seems a bit… small? I also think the graphics, and the designs of their faces are really bad. They should’ve either made them look like the actors or like the comics, that kind of half-and-half isn’t working for me.

Flat favourites

The recent comments about Link’s Awakening made me wonder what people consider to be the best 2D Zelda game? I’ve always assumed that A Link To The Past was the runaway favourite, with Link’s Awakening second but is that right? I know a lot of people like Minish Cap but I thought it never really did enough with the shrinking gimmick. I didn’t really like any of the DS games either. A Link Between Worlds was great though and a very worthy sequel to the original. I don’t really remember Capcom’s Game Boy Color games though and I’m not actually sure I’ve played them both.

If Link’s Awakening is a success I wonder if they’ll consider remaking A Link To The Past after that, and if they did would they do it in the same graphical style? I always saw A Link To The Past as more serious, as least as serious as Ocarina Of Time so I’m not sure that would work.

I’d like to see them try though as I think it’d be interesting to see each game have a different graphical style. I’m a firm believer that classic games should get remakes so that they remain accessible for younger generations, like the equivalent of a Blu-ray remaster but with more changes to account for the march of technology.

Nothing but noise

I pretty much agree with everything DarKerR said about defending the Xbox and being feed up of seeing it being talked down on the Inbox… including the bit where he admits it kind of deserves it. Yes, they’re making the right noises now, and yes I love Halo, but their attempts to win people is very unconvincing and I agree that Gears 5 is a real weak link and they probably should’ve never bought the franchise. It’s old-fashioned and unlike Halo I just don’t think it has the breadth to be adapted into anything else.

It’s true that Microsoft aren’t very good at E3 and that hurts them too (they shouldn’t have hyped how many game reveals there were going to be either) but otherwise I thought they had a very good and positive conference.

However, it was clear it was yet another stopgap before hitting top gear and I can understand people that are upset that they didn’t ‘empty the tank’. I understand why but I think they would’ve been sensible to admit this before hand and not hype up the 14 new games thing. What’s done is done though and while Microsoft didn’t dominate E3 they did put on a two-hour show that I really enjoyed and showcased lots and lots of games. At this point I don’t think you could hope for much else.

One of each

For me, my main console has been the PlayStation 4 this generation. It’s had a lot of use. Although I just can’t find much time to game.

I also have an Xbox One S, I mainly bought that for the 4K Blu-ray player. I’ve barely played any games on it at all.

I also have a Wii U which I’ve loved despite the paucity of games. Which means I’ve not felt a great need to invest in a Switch. But I’ll probably pick one up cheap in the future.

The way the world works

I’m usually not one to get riled up at loot boxes and that type of stuff. Live and let live and all that and, really, apart from kids, it’s basically just parting fools from their money. But the way EA talk about it all is just disgusting. They know they’re lying through their teeth and they know they’ll probably get away with it because the people they’re talking to (the MPs) haven’t got a clue about any of it.

That’s the world in a nutshell really, I guess, the rich manipulate the stupid to take advantage of the poor. The chances of us following Belgium and banning them are tiny but if it did happen I would laugh my head off. To see EA go down because their precious loot boxes were taken away from them would be hilarious, but I really don’t think we’re that lucky.

Also, the fact that they’ve got someone who’s job title is ‘Head of Lying to Government Officials’ is just full on creepy. How many times do they need to do it that that’s an actual full-time job?! I get the sense that a lot of palms are being greased…
Crowley

Egging them on

Kinder eggs? LOL. Must buy 6,000 Kinder Eggs to see if I can get that plastic car I so badly want.

Seriously EA? Quite Fair? It’s gambling and nothing else? Goodness know how your code works either. Lottery type odds? Is how much you spend a factor?

Pure evil.

One’s not enough

In response to Eckard’s letter titled One’s Enough, I have the following consoles: Game Boy, Master System Plus, Mega Drive, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Xbox 360 original, Xbox 360 Slim, Xbox One, Super Nintendo, and GameCube.

I have hundreds of games which I have collected over the many years and most of these are PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360. One thing that is still way far off is 100% game streaming, as physical media still holds advantages that digital and streaming media does not. While streaming will, in the very far future, be a 100% feature in gaming there is still a few optional features streaming needs, like being able to temporarily download the full game so that if your Internet does go down it can switch to the hard drive version on your console and continue where you left off on single-player games.

Google Stadia will show us what advantages and disadvantages game streaming will give us but until more games are released and once more ISPs stop limiting bandwidth and applying questionable fair usage policies 100% games streaming might eventually become standard. But for now it looks like that is a very long way off and we are in for a long wait.

I heard that Nintendo were having trouble guaranteeing the components for the Switch Mini so they didn’t want to announce it until they were sure they could deliver enough stock. Don’t know if it’s true but if seems to fit.

In an attempt to stick up for Microsoft can I just say that the Battletoads trailer looked great. I felt sure they’d go for a retro look but it looked like a cartoon and I much preferred that. I just hope it’s not too hard…

This week’s Hot Topic

With E3 2019 having just finished the subject for this weekend’s Inbox asks what you thought was the best and worst announcements of the show.

What do you think was the best game or hardware (or service) reveal and why? And which was the worst? What gameplay footage impressed you the most and which games are you now looking forward to more – or less – than you were before E3?

Do you think E3 2019 was a vintage year and what were the best and worst aspects about it? Who do you think ‘won’ E3 and what was the best press conference? Please make sure to label your emails either for the weekday Inbox or Hot Topic, so we know which is which.

While Jess Shears prepares to give birth to their first child, husband Dom Lever is vying to put himself through (not even half) as much physical pain.

The Love Island star has revealed new plans for a huge tattoo of Jess’s face on his bicep, which is not exactly childbirth but love is pain.

Model and influencer Dom unveiled the new digital design on Thursday, which features his pregnant partner’s face inside a bear’s mouth. Random.

While he didn’t explain the unusual illustration he said it proved he was in it for the ‘long haul’.

Fans will know that Dom already has an inking of his own face on his leg, after an appearance on MTV inking show Just Tattoo Of Us in June 2018.

And even though Dom said his tattoos are ‘hurting more and more every time’ last year, he hasn’t stopped adding to his collection.

By now, we’ve seen nothing but proof of the ‘long haul’ from the stable Love Island pair, who coupled up on the 2017 series.

Only two months after leaving the Majorcan villa, the couple got matching island-style tattoos in love hearts with each other’s initials.

Then, within just three months of finding love on the ITV2 reality show, Dom proposed to Jess by filling their London apartment with flowers and getting down on one knee as a surprise.

They wed at a secret ceremony in Mykonos, Greece the following year, becoming the second Love Island couple to get hitched.

And two months ago, for the icing on the cake, they announced that they were expecting their first child.

They join series two couple Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey who welcomed a son back in December 2017.

Cally Jane Beech and Luis Morrison were the first stars from the show to become parents, with their daughter Vienna arriving in May earlier that same year.

Thousands are campaigning to get Amazon Prime TV show Good Omens cancelled – but have they even seen it, though?

An angry petition now signed by over 20,000 people was initially directed at rival streaming service Netflix, which definitely won’t get the ‘offensive’ drama taken off screens.

Good Omens, which is based on the 30-year-old Terry Pratchett novel, is ‘a mockery of God’s order and religion’ and ‘promotes evil,’ according to The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP).

The petition has already exceeded its original target of 15,000 signatures and now on the way to 35,000.

It was started by the TFP, which has over 120,000 active members, volunteers and donors, is a US organisation of lay Catholics acting for the preservation of Christian civilisation.

Good Omens
Michael Sheen and David Tennant co-star as an angel and a demon who fight for a common cause (Picture: Amazon)

Among many issues, they take issue with God being voiced as a woman, and the idea that an angel and a demon, representing good and evil, can be friends.

The show is the result of years of hard work by Neil Gaiman, who co-wrote the book and agreed to turn Pratchett’s dying wish in 2015 into a reality by bringing the book to screens.

The six-part miniseries revolves around angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) who, after becoming fond of living among humans on Earth from the dawn of creation, try to prevent the apocalyptic arrival of the antichrist ending life as we know it.

Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
It’s an adaptation of the Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman novel from 1990, honoring Pratchett’s vision for a screen remake (photo by Beth Gwinn/Getty Images)

After personally serving as a showrunner on the series, Gaiman said he made the show entirely for Pratchett, without concern for anyone else’s interpretation.

He told Metro.co.uk: ‘My agenda was: I want to make a Good Omens Terry Pratchett would like.

‘Which is a really interesting place because normally you’re going, what would the general audience like? What would America like? What would the world like?’

Many of novelist Gaiman’s works have been turned into films and TV shows over the years, including Stardust, Neverwhere, American Gods, and Coraline, but Good Omens represents the first time he’s ever acted as showrunner on one of his TV adaptations.

Luckily, Good Omens was worth the effort – being described in Metro.co.uk’s review as a ‘refreshingly whimsical concoction of British humour, infectious imagination, and old fashioned charms’.

And as far as the future of the franchise, Gaiman says one series might be enough, anyway.

He told us: ‘I think even talking about a sequel is wrong in some ways because the way I want people to see Good Omens isn’t, “Ah it’s the first season of Good Omens.”

‘I want them to see Good Omens and get the idea that basically what we set out to make is a six-hour long movie.’

Good Omens is available to stream on Amazon Prime TV now.

All Together Now singing contest is axed by the BBC after two series

Geri Horner and Rob Beckett won’t be bringing All Together Now back to BBC One for a third series.

The BBC confirmed on Thursday that the singing contest, involving a unique panel of 100 music experts, has been axed one year after first going on the air.

Since launching in the UK in January 2018, it has been rolled out globally but failed to make a huge splash at home.

A BBC spokesperson told TellyMix: ‘We would like to thank Rob and Geri and all members of The 100.

‘The award-winning format is now on air in 14 countries and the BBC is delighted to have played a part in bringing this unique singing show to the wider TV world.

‘We would like to thank the production team for all their hard work in launching such a successful format.’

Neither Spice Girl Geri nor comedian and host Rob has commented on the cancellation yet.

All Together Now featured a shake-up on the traditional judging format, inviting singers to compete for £50,000 by winning over The 100.

Unfortunately, ratings saw a decline after the first series with the 2019 series opener drawing half a million less than the previous year.

In January, ratings of 3 million weren’t enough to compete with The Greatest Dancer, which drew in 4.8million viewers.

The show has seen two winners, Shellyann Evans (Season 2) and Michael Rice (Season 1), who went on to represent the UK in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

Unfortunately, his appearance with Bigger Than Us left the UK at the bottom of the leaderboard with 16 points.

There was also a Christmas special, featuring Gemma Collins, This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Love Island’s Amber Davies which took over Christmas Eve but it was enough to secure a future for the show.

Netflix releases the long-awaited final trailer for Stranger Things Season 3 and we are not ok

Stranger Things
From the looks of it, the new season of Stranger Things is watch-through-your-fingers kind of scary (Picture: Netflix/StrangerThings)

Stranger Things Season 3 has a new trailer packed with so much drama and terror you may need a lie-down.

Aside from getting us 100% hyped for the July 4 release, the long-awaited final teaser to the next ‘bigger, darker, scarier’ series has us shaken to the core about the imminent threat to Hawkins.

Eleven and the gang Max, Dustin, Mike, Will and Lucas appear to come under siege after discovering they may have locked the Demogorgon in their world when they closed the gate to the Upside Down at the end of Season 2.

But, Eleven seems to be ready to fight harder than ever while he searches for a host to attach himself to again.

Stranger Things
And we see the gang constantly under siege, meaning they have to stick together (Picture: Netflix/StrangerThings)

And, thanks to telling sequence on the trailer, it looks clearer than ever that Billy could be the one to turn into a monster in Series 3.

And we’re already starting to see the emotional conflict for Billy’s half-sister Max, who seems to be in turmoil about fighting the monster.

The teaser goes in on a terrifying attack at the brand new Starcourt Mall, where Jonathan and Steve are seen joining the fight when Nancy has a particularly close encounter with the monster.

And there’s another hint that Billy will embody the demon (Picture: Netflix/StrangerThings)

Especially when Billy plays a pretty big part in the trailer (Picture: Netflix/StrangerThings)

It looks like no-one is safe from the Demogorgon this time around as he threatens: ‘We’re going to end you, we’re going to end your friends. Then, we are going to end everyone.’

Since we last saw the kids of Hawkins, they’ve all got a little bit stronger and tougher and ditched their board games in the basement.

The action has moved to a sweltering summer in 1985, where promos for the next adventure promise a summer that will change everything.

We can expect a brand new pool, the huge new shopping mall and a funfair that coincides with an Independence Day celebration that may have more to do with the action than we think.

Introducing America’s answer to Caroline Flack, new Love Island US host Arielle Vandenberg.

The actress and comedian, 32, was confirmed to present the new dating show on Thursday and Caroline was one of the first to congratulate her US equivalent.

Arielle, who’s definitely got a touch of the Caroline Flacks about her, said it was ‘a dream come true’ with just three weeks to go until the American version makes its debut ib CBS.

She gushed on Instagram: ‘Hey everyone!!! I am the host of love island!!!! Are you kidding me?

‘Dreams really do come true! I feel so honored to be a part of this amazing @cbstv family! Wow! I’m buzzing right now! I’ve waited my whole life for a moment like this! And it feels exactly as i imagined! Perfect!

‘Thank you thank you thank you @loveislandusa & @cbstv for choosing me to as your host! I love love!!! Let’s goooooo!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!!’

In the comments, Caroline congratulated her straight away, writing: ‘Best job ever. Congrats! You’re gonna love it.’

Like Caroline, who has hosted the UK version since it relaunched in 2015, Arielle will preside over the matchmaking on the dating show.

It will debut with a special 90-minute premiere on July 9 on the CBS and, just as they do here, one-hour episodes will air every weeknight thereafter.

But unlike our version, the US might be getting a more ‘toned down’ version of the sexy coupling up show.

ITV bosses suggest we might not see anything more risque than kissing games, compared to some of the saucy challenges in the past.

Revealing swimwear and the amount of swearing are also likely to be reassessed for an American audience.

ITV boss and Love Island executive producer David Eilenberg said: ‘We have to conform to broadcast standards, so what happens with language and — to some extent — what we see visually will be a little different because of the platform we’re on.’

He added: ‘We want it to feel like the World Cup of reality TV.’

Tiffany Haddish refuses to spend money on a date because she’s a ‘saver’

Tiffany Haddish isn’t prepared to waste any money on dating while she’s a single woman.

You won’t catch her going halfsies with any love interests because she flat out refuses to spend her savings on dates.

The 39-year-old has previously said she’s looking for a guy with no kids and a credit score higher than hers, but at the moment she’s just enjoying being single.

‘I’m a saver,’ she told People magazine. ‘C’mon man. I’m not trying to spend money on nothing.

‘But what am I not gonna spend money on? I’m not gonna spend no money on a date.’

Tiffany Haddish
Tiffany is focussed on her savings and building an empire before she meets a man (Photo by Gregg DeGuire/Getty Images)

Tiffany confirmed earlier this month that she’s not actively dating because she’s busy building any empire.

‘I want you to know the truth. I am not looking for a man right now,’ she tweeted.

‘I am still trying to heal from my other “Great” relationships. Dang men making videos cause they can’t take a joke. If I was dating someone the world wouldn’t know about it unless he wanted it that way.’

In a second tweet she went on: ‘I have been in lots of relationships. Right now I am focused on the one that really counts the one with Me.

‘I am doing really Good in this one I give Me whatever I want and I know how to make me happy. maybe in a few years we might let someone else in.’

Tiffany ended her five-year marriage to husband William Stewart in 2013.

Since then she’s regularly spoken about being picky with the men of Hollywood, saying the only man she’d allow to impregnate would be Leonardo DiCaprio.

She explained: ‘My taste in guys is ones that don’t have kids already and also a credit score higher than mine

‘That shows there’s responsibility left,’ she continued to UsWeekly. ‘Don’t let everybody in your house, and when I say house, I mean vagina.’

Already, Brad Pitt has been ruled out because he has too many kids.

‘I didn’t know Brad Pitt had all them kids!’ she said of the six children Brad shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

‘Let’s be honest. I never said I had a crush on him, I said he was hollering at me in the elevator and I said if he’s single in a year and I’m single in a year, we’ll see what we can do.

‘Then I did my research and I was like, “He’s got a lot of kids.” That’s not going to work for me! I want to be spoilt, I want to be number one!’

Even multiple Grammy-winner Drake didn’t get a look in after she laid it on too thick at a video they did together, but at least his dad was interested.

Danny Boyle is backing Robert Pattinson as James Bond: ‘He’s ready’

Director Danny Boyle has backed Robert Pattinson as the next James Bond.

Daniel Craig will take on the role of 007 for one more outing, but Danny, who quit the upcoming Bond 25 over ‘creative differences’ has suggested that the British actor, who will next be taking on the role of Batman, would be perfect to take over.

He revealed that he saw the Twilight actor in Claire Denis’s science fiction drama film High Life ‘and it was so bizarre, because I was sitting there thinking, “oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond”‘.

Danny went on to suggest that at 33, Robert was ‘ready now’ to play the spy, who we have seen on screens for nearly seven decades.

‘He must be in his 30s. How old was Connery? He’s ready now,’ Danny said, speaking to the Guardian.

The director, who burst on to the scene after directing 1996 black comedy Trainspotting before winning a best director Oscar for 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire, walked out of the upcoming untitled Bond film in August last year.

He was working on a screenplay by John Hodge, who also worked on Trainspotting.

However, a joint statement from star Craig and producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said Boyle was no longer directing.

Danny recently told Metro.co.uk that he feels he has learned his lesson and that he is ‘not cut out’ to work on franchise films.

‘I learned my lesson that I am not cut out [for franchises] otherwise you’re digging in the same hole,’ he told Metro.co.uk ahead of the release of his new film, Yesterday.

‘I am better not quite in the mainstream franchise movies, is the honest answer.’

Love Island new girl Arabella Chi hints she is still dating former islander Charlie Frederick

Love Island new girl Arabella Chi has seemingly confirmed she is still dating former islander Charlie Frederick – and now viewers want the 2018 star to get in the villa and confront the model.

On Thursday Arabella made a dramatic entrance, and upon meeting Arabella, Lucie Donlan – who dated Charlie for several months at the end of 2018 – exclaimed: ‘You’re my exes ex!’

To which Arabella replied: ‘Well, not ex.’

The comment could mean the pair were never serious enough to be considered exes but many believe Arabella has confirmed that they were in fact still dating when she flew to Mallorca, which Charlie has been insisting for several days.

Taking to Instagram, the 2018 contestant shared a string of posts on his story, alleging he was in a relationship with the 28-year-old model, and had ‘serious feelings’ for her.

‘Right so this is all an absolute madness for me,’ he began to his 308k followers when Arabella was first announced.

‘Finding out that a person I’m seeing / have a lot of feelings for on a serious level has just strolled into the villa, completely disregarding my feelings and our relationship or what we had, I feel like I have to air these screenshots because I feel like I’ve been completely mugged off.

‘I’m truly upset that Arabella has lied to me about what she was doing and claiming she had a campaign but instead auctioning going into Love Island.’

‘No one caught that Arabella said “well not ex” meaning what Charlie posted on Instagram was correct,’ shared one shocked viewer on social media, while another added: ‘Did anyone else hear Arabella say she’s not his ex when Lucie said your my ex’s ex’.

Echoing the rest of the nation, another fan shared: ‘Errr what? Can Charlie go back in the villa pls? #loveisland’

Love Island airs Sunday – Thursday at 9pm, on ITV2.

Elton John’s Rocketman is everything Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody should have been – and more

Elton John’s Rocketman was incredible.

Even if you’re not a fan of the music, you can’t say it wasn’t packed full of talent, glitz, glam and a soundtrack that was enough to blow anyone’s mind.

Not to mention leading man Taron Egerton’s vocals, who sang all the songs word for word hitting each and every note, with just enough Elton twang to make you think it was the icon himself.

Then there’s Bohemian Rhapsody, which had an equally as good soundtrack (obviously – it’s Queen!). But the movie lacked soul.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Queen, and everything they did with Freddie Mercury was spectacular – I think that’s why I was expecting the film to be spectacular.

Even Adam Lambert is spectacular, in his own way of course.

So that’s why I was shocked when the Rami Malek hit wasn’t – not for myself any way.

And then when Rocketman burst onto the scene, it truly revealed what Bo Rap could have been: A whole lot better.

I know I’ve probably put my foot in it already, but hear me out.

The Queen biopic was ultimately the first of its kind and had everyone captivated by recreating the golden days of music – and what was arguably a much simpler time.

This is probably why it had such rave reviews.

When you think about what the movie captured, and how it made you feel, were you really getting vibes from the film? Or reminiscing over the halcyon days and your fond memories of the past.

Rami’s teeth were a little bit too much (Picture: Rex)

Then there was Rami, and I don’t really know how to address this, but those teeth.

I understand that director Bryan Singer had to do what he did with the fake teeth, but the star of the show sounded as though he was putting on a Freddie accent with some kind of Halloween vampire fangs in.

It detracted from his acting, and sure took a while to get used to, so I’m kind of pleased he mimed along to Freddie’s vocals, otherwise God knows what he would have made some of the hits sound like.

That was another thing, after watching Rocketman, it would have been nice for Rami to blast out some of the Queen classics – even Himesh Patel is singing in the new Beatles movie, Yesterday.

It would have been good to hear some of Rami’s own vocals (Picture: Rex)

And while I did shed a tear at the end of the film, I can’t say it was Rami’s acting that brought a lump to my throat, but Freddie’s lyrics and his tragic story.

That was another thing that put me off the film before even taking the time to watch it.

The fact that such a heart wrenching story about a man fighting Aids and his sexuality, while he navigated such a brutal industry, was told by a group of his friends – that could only imagine what he must have been going through.

At least when it came to Rocketman, yes there may have been some poetic license, but Elton had a say in how he was feeling at particular moments of his life, and director Dexter Fletcher used fantastical elements to convey these emotions.

For instance when he first sung at The Troubadour, the Crocodile Rock hitmaker said it was so amazing it felt like everyone was floating, and that’s exactly what they did.

They made the whole audience float above the ground to show how incredible the night was – without spelling it out.

Just like how the song Rocketman started off at the bottom of a swimming pool and ended in Dodgers Stadium with Taron taking off to the stars.

It was little things like this that gave the film a magical touch, and took you into both the world and mind of Elton.

Rocketman didn’t shy away from addressing Elton’s mental health (Picture: Rex)

I didn’t know what to expect before watching the film, but the way they told the singer’s life through his songs was to me, a far better approach than how Bohemian Rhapsody weaved in Queen’s tracks.

Not only because it meant they could throw in a load of tunes, even little snippets of them like Daniel and I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, but it gave you a whole other meaning to the lyrics – even though they were written by Bernie Taupin (played by Jamie Bell).

It made you feel more connected with the music you’ve known and loved for years, giving the tracks a whole new lease of life (not that they needed it).

On top of this, while Bo Rap remained relatively tame, Rocketman dared to be brave and dared to be different, just like Elton himself.

Not only did it make Hollywood history by being the first studio film with a gay sex scene, they also explored Elton’s mental health battle and weren’t afraid to show his (sadly) infamous and jarring 1975 suicide attempt.

It was a striking film, full of colour and love, and it was clear that the writers were not afraid to show the dark side of the industry through extraordinary features.

While the films do take two very different approaches, with the villain John Reid (played by both Aidan Gillen and Richard Madden) somewhat linking them both together, Rocketman has sure set the bar higher than I ever thought possible.

I hope that future biopics – like the rumoured Boy George film – will take inspiration from the movie.

Though, after both Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell’s performance, I doubt anything will ever come close to what they managed to create.

Game Of Thrones director defends Daenerys’ mad transformation in season 8

Daenerys’ downfall didn’t go down well with many fans (Picture: HBO)

Game Of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik has addressed the controversial transformation of Daenerys Targaryen in season eight, explaining how he would have made a small change.

The final season of the show proved controversial for many reasons, but a reoccurring sticking point is some of the rapid developments in characters which didn’t entirely convince or feel natural – possibly due to the shortened number of episodes.

A disputed change is the descent of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), who switches into Mad Queen status after deciding to burn King’s Landing with dragon fire in penultimate episode The Bells.

Speaking with IndieWire, director Miguel, who helmed the fifth episode, stated how he always expected Daenerys to go mad from the beginning.

‘The way she has treated humans, and the conviction she has, means that conviction is eventually going to fall afoul,’ Miguel said.

The director was originally planned to direct episodes three to five but this became not possible through scheduling, with David Nutter directing the fourth episode instead.

In the wake of a costly victory, Jon and Daenerys look to the south as Tyrion eyes a compromise that could save countless lives.
Daenerys unleashed upon King’s Landing (Picture: HBO)

Miguel would have made a small change if he did direct the fourth episode, namely saving Daenerys’ reaction to Missandei’s death until the beginning of the fifth episode to emphasize how something had switched.

‘We said, “You’ve never been like this,”’ Miguel said. ‘It was this idea of us trying to piece her back together, but something’s broken.’

He stands by the decision not to show Daenerys while she’s burning the innocent lives of King’s Landing, believing it was unnecessary to show her reaction.

‘At that point, you don’t need to see her,’ Miguel said. ‘We decided not to cut back to her.

‘When she makes that decision, she and the dragon become one.’

The fourth episode proved troublesome for other reasons too, including the coffee cup debacle which director David Nutter has shrugged responsibility for.

McFly’s Danny Jones has revealed the band’s upcoming reunion has stalled.

The four-piece have not released an album since 2010 and The Voice Kids judge has now suggested that they were at risk of ‘burn out’ prior to their latest break.

‘If you go too hard for too long, you burn out,’ he said.

‘You need a bit of change to come back, because you don’t want to burn out and not enjoy it. I’m not saying we did, but I feel we could have.’

In January Danny’s bandmate Dougie Poynter said the boys are getting ready to head back to the recording studio and will begin writing new songs before the summer.

Yet it seems the band have not yet written any new tracks, and the 33-year-old told The Sun that they were also cautious of returning to an industry that has changed widely since their heyday.

‘We used to do HMV signings. Now you go to Apple, Spotify,’ he said.

‘What I don’t want is to sound like you’re trying to cover your own band. You’ve got to move on.’

Dougie claimed earlier in 2019 that ‘McFly will at least start writing by the summer and I can’t wait’.

‘I love that band and I love the guys. It’s awesome. We decided to take some time off after we did McBusted because it was a two-year tour and there was naturally some other things everyone wanted to do.

‘It actually worked out really well because all the other guys had kids in that time, so they’ve all been home for their kids.’

Some of those other projects include Dougie’s stint on I’m A Celebrity, which he won in 2011, while his bandmates Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd and Danny Jones have all become fathers in the past nine years.

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo defends Netflix prank show after it’s branded ‘disgusting’

Gaten Matarazzo has defended his new Netflix show Prank Encounters following growing criticism.

The 16-year-old actor, known for playing Dustin in Stranger Things, acts as host and executive producer on the new eight-episode series set to launch on Netflix later this year.

Following the hidden-camera show’s announcement, many criticised the series after a synopsis indicated it was playing ‘terrifying and hilarious pranks’ on job seekers at the first day of a new job.

Matarazzo has since addressed the criticism in a video on Instagram, saying: ‘Right now I’m in Korea on a press tour and I’m making this video to address some of the negativity that’s been surrounding the new prank show that I’m doing called Prank Encounters which is going to be on Netflix.

‘I think I just want to clear up a bit of confusion about the show. I just want to let everybody know that those who participated were fully aware it was going to be a one-day gig going in, nobody was promised a part time or full time job, and everybody was compensated.

‘Those who did participate had an amazing time, although the pranks are scary and over the top and nothing has really been done like them before, everybody enjoyed them very, very much and when all was said and done, everybody was laughing and having a great time and everybody left the set happy and satisfied.’

He added: ‘I really, really appreciate your concern for these people and their well-being and we really hope that you have as much fun watching the show as we did making it. Thank you guys so, so much.’

Netflix has also responded to the growing concern in a statement, which reads: ‘The pranks in Prank Encounters are spooky, supernatural, and over the top, and everyone had a great time.

‘All participants came in with the expectation this was a one-day, hourly gig and everyone got paid for their time.’

The series marks Matarazzo’s first Netflix show outside of Stranger Things, which is set to return for its third season next month.

Prank Encounters is scheduled to launch later this year on Netflix.

The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik reveals what she bought herself to say goodbye to Amy Farrah-Fowler

Mayim Bialik has revealed that she struggled to splash any cash to mark the end of her time on The Big Bang Theory – and encouraged people to be more kind to themselves.

The actress, who played Sheldon Cooper’s wife Amy Farrah-Fowler, said goodbye to the character last month as the show wrapped up after 12 years.

Mayim, who joined the cast later as a romantic interest for Jim Parson’s Sheldon, had been on the show for the past nine years.

Writing on her blog GrokNation, Mayim admitted that she wanted to mark the moment, but wasn’t used to spending money on herself so didn’t know what to do.

She wrote: ‘I just finished nine years on a show that changed my life. I let myself think about how it might be nice to have something I could look at to remind me of the show.’

However, when she looked at a big thing for her to buy in memory of the show that has defined a decade of her life, Mayim admitted that her brain automatically felt guilty shopping in stores such as Tiffany & Co.

‘I decided to work this muscle of kindness to myself—which isn’t my baseline. It’s a muscle I don’t flex a lot, but I do have a sense of accomplishment about trying something new while still remaining true to myself,’ she wrote.

‘I don’t know that I got over my hesitation or distaste for buying myself fancy things. I still feel weird about it if I’m being perfectly honest.’

Ultimately, she revealed that she compromised and instead of buying one expensive memento to mark the end of her time as Amy (say…a tiara that made her feel like a princess) she decided to get a bunch of little things.

Embracing ‘the big kid’ inside of her that craved more things instead of nicer things anyways, she opted for a ring, three bracelets and a necklace that was marked with an M.

Jim Parsons recently explained that he decided to leave the show because he thought he’d ‘played out’ the science geek character of Sheldon.

The actor’s choice to say goodbye kickstarted the beginning of the end of the long-running sitcom, which decided to not continue without their leading man.

Cue about a year’s worth of sad goodbyes, cast lasts, and even some groundbreaking moments, as they became the first TV show to have their hands memorialised in cement at Hollywood’s Chinese Theatre.

The sound studio that played home to their set at Warner Bros in Los Angeles has now also been renamed The Big Bang Theory Studio.

The Big Bang Theory is still available on repeats and catch-ups via E4 and 4OD.

Who could Keanu Reeves play in The MCU?

The Internet was abuzz recently when Marvel chief Kevin Feige revealed that Keanu Reeves has long been a target for a role in The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘We talk to him for almost every film we make,’ he said in an interview with ComicBook.com.

‘I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.’

The prospect of the world’s coolest star joining forces with the world’s coolest franchise would be very exciting news to anyone, but what role would be best for the actor, currently riding high with John Wick 3 and Toy Story 4, and currently working on a third Bill and Ted movie.

But who should he play? Here’s some of our suggestions…

The Silver Surfer

Probably one of the most high profile characters in the Marvel canon, The Silver Surfer has only been portrayed once on screen, in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer. The film was fairly forgettable, so a serious swipe at the character would surely be welcomed. The Silver Surfer is an alien who becomes a herald for cosmic planet consumer Galactus, who could become the new big baddie to replace Thanos, making Reeves a pivotal part of the MCU if he were cast.

Adam Warlock

One of the most popular characters being touted online is Adam Warlock. Described on the Marvel website as having been ‘genetically engineered as the perfect being’, this intergalactic hero would be one of the most powerful in the MCU, and more than fit the new cosmic direction the franchise is going in with the upcoming Eternals film. Plus, playing a being with infinite powers should come easy to Reeves, having already been ‘The One’ in The Matrix films.

Fantastic Four 2015 reboot
The last Fantastic 4 didn’t work out, but could Keanu Reeves make Reed Richards a vital part of The MCU? (Picture: Fox)

Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic

Having last been portrayed by Miles Teller in the flop 2015 film Fantastic 4, 54-year-old Reeves would be a more mature take on the character, traditionally shown to have grey streaks in his hair, but he would make a good leader for a team that would need to establish themselves quickly in Marvel’s already crowded Universe.

Namor The Sub-Mariner

Another name circulating around social media is Namor, a mutant anti-hero from the early days of Marvel comics with super strength, flight and sub-aquatic abilities. Marvel may want to have their own underwater hero after the success of DC’s Aquaman, and the character’s history of being both with and against the good guys means Reeves could be a cool ‘shades of grey’ character as the MCU re-establishes itself.

This image released by Warner Bros. Pictures shows Jason Momoa in a scene from "Aquaman." (Warner Bros. Pictures via AP)
Could Marvel have their own Aquaman in Namor? (Image: Warner Bros)

Logan/Wolverine

He’s tough, he’s Canadian, he doesn’t seem to age… Are we sure Reeves isn’t actually Wolverine in real life? As The X-Men are introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the casting of Reeves as arguably the most popular character in that universe would no doubt appease fans who can only see Hugh Jackman in the role. His age may not make him a long term solution, but it would certainly be fun to see.

John Wick

OK, so this one is a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but Reeves’ canine loving assassin has shown superhero levels of strength to dispatch numerous bad guys over three films. Why not simply introduce him into the Marvel Universe? Given that multiple realities/timelines exist within the MCU (as established in Endgame), Wick could very well wander into theirs (presumably on a horse shooting villains). If nothing else, he could make a great duo with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye as gruff hit men out for vengeance.

Bebe Rexha has hit back at trolls after being labelled ‘tubby’, telling them that she’s ‘unashamedly me’.

Preach, girl.

The Say My Name singer, who’s previously spoken out about body positivity, took to Instagram to call out the trolls.

‘Weight loss is a b***h,’ she wrote. ‘I love to eat and I won’t deny that. But you don’t know everyone’s stories. People’s past, their addictions, wether [sic] or not they take medication that makes them gain wight. Depression.

‘So I try not to judge others.’

Writing on Twitter, the star added: ‘I don’t give a two s**ts about what people think about my weight. I care about what I think about my weight.

‘To all the people tweeting mean things to me about my weight you just want a response and you will not get it.’

Posting snaps of herself performing in a stunning all-black outfit, she told fans she’s ‘unashamedly me’.

Demi Lovato, who has taken on her own trolls in the past, supported the singer, telling her: ‘You are GORGEOUS, strong, authentic and an inspiration to me and so many. Thank you for being you you BEAUTIFUL, beautiful woman. I love you.’

The star, who recently revealed she’s ghosted Shawn Mendes (haven’t we all?) has previously opened up about her weight, telling fans about the moment she was told she’s ‘too big’ for Grammys dresses.

Claiming that when she was nominated for two Grammys this year, Bebe recalled getting ‘a text saying that a lot of the big designers and the showrooms, the houses that hold the clothes, didn’t want to dress me because they consider me too big’.

‘I am a UK size 12, I like my curves,’ she revealed. ‘It hurt me because I’ve struggled with my weight all my life, especially being in the music business, looks are an important thing but you also want to be healthy.’

The 29-year-old explained that health isn’t just physical and she didn’t want to ‘starve herself’ to fit into certain clothes.

Nevertheless, she ended up with a stunning dress after designers including the late Karl Lagerfeld and Jeremy Scott sent her some pieces.

And as for the others? Bebe didn’t mince her words.

‘And all the other ones can kiss my fat a**!’

Instagram model and NSFW cosplayer Belle Delphine has out trolled the internet’s trolls after pulling an epic bait and switch move.

Belle promised to set up her own Pornhub channel if one Instagram picture hit one million likes, and as predicted her fanbase came through; the picture is now coming up on nearly two million.

So the 19-year-old gamer set up her own channel but didn’t quite give her fans what they wanted.

Instead, in one video called ‘Belle Delphine strokes two big cocks’, she cuddles two stuffed cockerels.

In another she eats a picture of infamous Youtuber Pewdiepie.

One of her videos, which she titled ‘Belle Delphine Gets Scissored’, sees her opening and closing a pair of plastic scissors.

The 12 videos have all mostly received a ridiculously high number of dislikes and angry comments but give the girl props.

Belle, who films her videos from London, has over three million followers on Instagram, and boasts over 4,000 Patreon subscribers.

Known for her detailed cosplay and makeup, she regularly posts content of a provocative and NSFW nature, including ahegao faces, for which she is particularly known.

In February, she became the subject of a death rumour after one of her more controversial Instagram posts drew some criticism from her followers over concern about her mental health.

The now deleted video showed her dressed in anime-esque cosplay and dancing to a song about suicide, before she brandished what looked like a (presumably replica) gun.

This caused something of a furor among her Instagram followers, with some calling her out in the comments for making light of suicide, and others beginning to speculate as to whether or not Belle herself had died.

In 2018, she launched a Patreon which offers patrons access to regular, exclusive and raunchy content, including access to her premium Snapchat, for prices ranging from $5 (£3.82) to $2,500 (£1911.06) a month.

Jeremy Kyle is reportedly planning his TV comeback with two TV series currently in the pipeline.

The 53-year-old presenter has been making plans for a new series concept, which is yet to be decided upon, as well as the return of his undercover/secret filming series, The Kyle Files.

His new show could be a re-emergence of previous series’ of Kyle’s that were axed after a short run, according to The Mirror.

These include daytime show Jeremy Kyle’s Emergency Room, which saw Jeremy drop into hospital consultations with patients whose ailments included severe burns to struggles with eating disorders.

Another consideration is High Stakes, a game show run by Kyle that was axed after only one season.

The Kyle Files has been running since 2015 and sees secret cameras used to cover an array of topics including knife crime, legal highs and underage drinking.

Both shows come after the shock axe of his daily TV series, The Jeremy Kyle Show, following the death of guest Steve Dymond.

Steve died by suicide just two weeks after his appearance on the show, being found in his Portsmouth home by friend.

The new show news comes as Kyle continues to maintain a low profile following Dymond’s death – refusing to appear before an MP committee to discuss the effects of his show.

Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) requested his presence at the committee to discuss what had happened, but Kyle declined.

ITV have also been seen looking for those who have cheated on their partners to take part in a ‘Jeremy Kyle-style show’, just weeks after the official show was given the axe in light of Dymond’s death.

After no one came forward to claim Dymond’s body, the Portsmouth 62-year-old was laid to rest with a pauper’s funeral.

The 62-year-old had a one-minute service at Kingston Cemetary, Portsmouth, with five people in attendance.

Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV for further comment and clarification.

They are the best of friends in real life, but things get super sexy between Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello in the music video for their track, Señorita.

Fans have been shipping the idea of these two as a couple for years and the singers used that as inspiration for the steamy video.

The song is all about friends with benefits who seem ready to make things more official and the video clip definitely does the sizzling track justice.

Camila plays a diner waitress who has her head turned when a brooding, glistening Shawn stops by to get some food.

The pair exchange lots of seductive looks and even show off their dance moves before they ride off to a hotel room together.

And things go down in the ‘hotel, motel, holiday inn’ as the BFFs create a sexy scene that could put Hollywood films to shame.

Ultimately the short-lived romance ends when the pair go their separate ways and Shawn continues on his journey.

The video is so hot we wouldn’t be surprised if steam starts coming off computer screens.

And with lyrics like ‘You say that we’re just friends, but friends don’t know the way you taste’ it’s not hard to see why fans are loving every bit of the track and its accompanying video.

‘Oh my gosh baby Shawn and baby Camila. I know you’re good friends but we can’t deny the fact that you look good together AAAAAAAAAAA,’ one wrote.

‘I loved the video and the song. IT was so addictive that my eyes where stucked on the screen. That’s a VIDEO,’ another gushed.

‘A very good one, one of the best I’ve ever seen. And the song is already in my mind after 1 listen so… Good job you two.’

‘Shawn on that motorcycle has made me feel some type of way and don’t let me start with camila,’ one fan stated.

We might just start a petition for these two to recreate the video as a full length movie.

Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway were left slightly perplexed after weather presenter Alex Beresford burst into hysterics mid-report.

As the Good Morning Britain weatherman went to deliver his latest update, an introduction about the origins of the summer solstice went slightly awry – prompting an alarming chuckle to rattle anyone’s breakfast.

Kicking off the weather, Alex said: ‘Today is the summer solstice. This happens when earth’s geographical pole is most inclined towards the earth, and we’re going to be… Sorry that’s actually completely wrong I don’t know why I said that actually.’

As he burst into giggles, hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway looked bemused, with the former saying: ‘What did you? What?’

Clarifying what he was meaning to say, Alex said: ‘Okay so the summer solstice happens when the geographical pole in the northern or southern hemisphere is most inclined towards the sun. Today is that day. That’s what I was trying to say.

‘I just couldn’t get it out. I’m really sorry.’

Shephard replied: ‘I don’t trust you anymore. I don’t believe you. You’ve just made that up.’

Alex managed to continue his weather report without further alarm, but a nation is collectively protecting their cereal bowls in fear of another hysterical attack.
