Sam Gowland calls Chloe Ferry’s cheating accusations an ‘Oscar winning performance’

Sam Gowland has hit back at Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry after she accused him of messaging other girls when they were together and sleeping with Love Island winner Amber Davies the day after they split.

Megan Barton-Hanson has also become involved, after a message which didn’t name anyone but was shared by Chloe, while Amber has broken her silence on Twitter.

Chloe and Sam split in May but taking to Instagram on Friday evening, Chloe claimed that he slept with his Love Island pal the day after Chloe broke off her romance with Sam.

Alleging that Sam told her repeatedly that any reports that he had been with Amber were untrue, Chloe went on to insist she had her doubts and that she has since found messages on his laptop confirming her suspicions.

In response, Sam simply posted a photoshopped picture of Chloe’s face on the body of someone holding an Academy Award and captioned it: ‘Award-winning performance #Oscar’.

‘Shocked at how people can bite so hard after only knowing one side of a story. Some of the abuse I’ve had has been heartbreaking! Peace and Love. Always! @SamGowland123 and I are friends and only friends. Nothing has ever happened between us. Can’t believe I have to tweet this,’ said Amber.

Megan, however, shared a text post which read: ‘Nothing makes my day more than when a snakey bitch gets exposed.

‘Imagine moving like that and lying to numerous heartbroken girls that you ain’t sh***ed their ex! I’m all for getting that D but have some respect or just own up to being a heartless little rat.’

Chloe reposted the story and added: ‘Real girls stick by each other.’

Sources close to Amber have told Metro.co.uk that the star has been ‘never been anything more than friends’ with Sam and that the 22-year-old was ‘baffled at why Chloe is putting these allegations on her social channels’.

Chloe has shared many videos on Instagram of her in tears and ranting about Sam.

She also accused him of gaslighting her.

‘So one day after we broke up, you had sex with her? And I looked on the laptop and it’s fucking true. And he’s making me the bad fu***ng person? I haven’t been with anyone since finishing with Sam,’ she ranted.

‘So basically Sam and Amber lied to us, I found messages on the laptop. Do I have mug on my fucking head? Not only have I found messages on Sam’s laptop, he’s been messaging people when we were together but the day after we finished he had sex with Amber Davies,’ she said.

Fu***ng great. It’s so destroying, how he can hurt you so much, seeing that message and now I know it’s true – the Amber Davies situation – what an idiot I am,’ she said.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Sam for comment; reps for Amber did not want to comment.

Hollywood actor Peter Fonda has died at the age of 79 following a battle with lung cancer, his family has said.

Easy Rider star Peter was the son of Henry Fonda, and the brother of actress Jane Fonda.

He was nominated for two Oscars throughout his career and won Golden Globes for best actor in Ulee’s Gold and best-supporting actor for The Passion of Ayn Rand.

He first worked on Broadway before moving into TV shows such as Naked City, The New Breed, Wagon Train, and The Defenders before he made his film debut alongside Sandra Dee in Tammy and the Doctor.

Throughout the 1960s, he became part of the counter-culture movement, and became known as a droput thanks to his non-conformist attitude and the fact that he had not become a Hollywood heartthrob.

He was pals with Byrds and The Beatles, and became the inspiration for The Beatles song She Said She Said after he said ‘I know what it’s like to be dead’, referring to a childhood shooting injury, while high on LSD with John Lennon and George Harrison.

In 1968, he produced, co-wrote and starred in Easy Rider, directed by Dennis Hopper; he was nominated for the Academy Award for best original screenplay while Jack Nicholson was nominated for best-supporting actor.

The film became the cornerstone of the 1960s counter-culture movements and sparked a New Hollywood era of filmmaking as major studios realised money could be made from low-budget films.

In the final years of his life he became political, and in 2011 produced The Big Fix, a documentary that examined the role of BP in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

He called President Obama a ‘f**king traitor’ for allowing ‘foreign boots on our soil telling our military—in this case the Coast Guard—what they can and could not do, and telling us, the citizens of the United States, what we could or could not do’.

He was vocal on Twitter against President Donald Trump, and in June 2018 apologised for tweeting that Donald Trump’s 12-year-old son Barron should be ripped from ‘his mother’s arms and put in a cage with paedophiles’.

He deleted the tweet, which he said was in response to ‘devastating images’ of children separated from their parents on the US-Mexico border.

In a statement Fonda said: ‘I went way too far. It was wrong and I should not have done it.

‘I immediately regretted it and sincerely apologise to the family for what I said and any hurt my words have caused.’

Victoria Beckham cuddles up to her doppelganger sister Louise for cute snap in Italy

Victoria Beckham’s only gone and shared a selfie with her younger sister and we can’t handle how much they look like each other.

The VB, 45, was joined by her lookalike sibling Louise Adams, 42, and her brood during her family getaway in Italy (which, btw, looks like all kinds of glam).

To commemorate the meeting of same faces, Vicky cuddled up to Louise and her best friend Maria-Louise for a quick snap of their al-fresco lunch on Friday.

Posting the cute shot on her Instagram Stories, Victoria wrote: ‘Friends since we were four-years-old!’

We’re not sure if it’s the perfectly fine-tuned smile/pout or the up-do or the tan, but seriously – Louise is just Victoria’s doppelganger.

And it’s no wonder Louise wanted to join her sis, David and their four children – Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 14, and Harper, eight, in Italy.

Have you seen David Beckham’s snaps of their holiday? It looks so. Darn. Luxurious.

From their villa’s huge private pool to the swanky dinners out, it’s seriously making us wish we were related to the Beckhams.

And as if the family need any more property porn in their lives, they apparently recently splashed out on a £36 million apartment in Miami.

Last week Marca revealed their spend, claiming that the Beckhams had bought the most expensive apartment in the world.

Their new pad was designed by architect Zaha Hadid and will come in handy as David is moving to Miami part-time to launch his Major League Soccer team, Inter Miami there.

With a rooftop bar, hair salon, juice bar, spa and gym, plus a walkway to the beach and a helipad (not even impressed), hopefully their new digs will keep the clan entertained.

Just days after it was reported that Love Island’s Chris Taylor and Harley Brash had split, it is now being claimed that Chris was ‘not Harley’s type’.

Casa Amor islander Nabila Badda, who failed to earn a place in the main villa in this year’s series of the ITV2 show, says that she knew Harley before she entered the villa, mentioning that she did not think Chris would be ‘her kind of type’.

Speaking on Fubar Radio, she said: ‘I am not surprised about that [the split], I’ll be honest with you.

‘I knew her before and who she’d be interested in and I don’t think that Chris is her kind of type… she said that as well.

‘So, yeah. Chris will be lapped up real quick.’

This comes just a few days after the couple had reportedly decided to split, following on from the end of this year’s series of the dating reality show.

A source told The Sun that the split was ‘amicable’ and that the pair have decided to remain friends.

‘Harley and Chris broke up a couple of days ago, it was really amicable and they both agreed they’ll stay friends.

The source added: ‘Sadly there’s no romance there – it was just a holiday fling.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Harley and Chris for comment.

The two had previously confirmed on Love Island Aftersun on 28 July that the pair were ‘exclusively dating’ and not seeing anyone else.

And just a few days before the split was reported, Chris had shared a photo of him and Harley together as the two spent the day together at Alton Towers theme park.

‘My golden crumpet, meet you at the fire pit in 10 mins,’ he said.

‘Missing you and the kids, see you very soon @harley_brash.’

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar weighs in on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’s ‘racist’ portrayal of Bruce Lee

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is not happy with the way Bruce Lee has been portrayed in Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.

The basketball player, who was a close friend to Bruce and co-starred with him in the 1973 film Game Of Death, believes that Quentin’s portrayal of the late actor and martial artist did not live up to his standards and presents him in a ‘sloppy’ and ‘racist’ way.

In Once Upon a Time, Bruce Lee has been played by actor Mike Moh, who only has one significant scene in the movie, which also stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The scene sees Brad Pitt’s character, Cliff Booth, take offence to Bruce boasting about his fighting abilities, and thus Bruce challenges him to a sparring match.

Kareem admitted that this has left him ‘torn’, as Quentin was a director he had long admired, but has been left ‘disappointed’ with the way his ‘friend and teacher’ has been presented.

In a new column published by the Hollywood Reporter, he said: ‘Filmmakers have a responsibility when playing with people’s perceptions of admired historic people to maintain a basic truth about the content of their character.

‘Quentin Tarantino’s portrayal of Bruce Lee in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood does not live up to this standard.

‘Of course, Tarantino has the artistic right to portray Bruce any way he wants. But to do so in such a sloppy and somewhat racist way is a failure both as an artist and as a human being.’

He also argues that the actor never wanted to fight when challenged to in public, and ‘felt no need to prove himself.’

The 72-year-old quickly became friends with Bruce when he was a student at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), looking to further improve his martial art skills.

And it was Bruce that taught Kareem ‘the discipline and spirituality of martial arts’.

Kareem isn’t the first to call out Quentin on his portrayal of the martial artist.

Bruce’s very own daughter, Sharon Lee, is also not happy, and argued that the film portrays her late father as an ‘arrogant a**hole.’

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is out now in cinemas.

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd apparently split last week after ‘furious rows’ and now it seems the pair are very, very keen to avoid each other on nights out.

The Victoria’s Secret model made a hasty exit from LA nightclub, Catch One, after the Starboy hitmaker rocked up at the same joint on Thursday night.

And when we say hasty, we mean hasty. She bid farewell to the venue eight minutes after her rumoured ex turned up.

The 22-year-old seemed to be loving life as she left though, cracking up with her pals as they walked out of the nightspot so just so you know – Bella is doing fine.

Once again, the model managed to work an outfit that would look ridiculous on us but somehow managed to be the height of sartorial brilliance on her.

Meanwhile The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – kept things casual in a blue denim jacket and black jeans.

The pair reportedly parted ways for a second time last week, with sources claiming they’re just in ‘different places’.

An insider told E! News: ‘Bella and Abel have split. They are in different places right now, physically and mentally.

‘Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut.’

They had been dating on and off since April 2015 and split in late 2016, before reconciling last year (following The Weeknd’s relationship with Selena Gomez).

Bella’s been keeping busy since reports of the rumoured split and recently enjoyed a lavish getaway in Mykonos with Gigi Hadid to celebrate their sister Alana’s birthday.

Things turned sour though, when the sisters came home from a night out to find they’d been robbed, with the thieves making off with their clothes, bags and jewellery.

Weekend Hot Topic, part 1: What’s your favourite strategy game?

Image may be NSFW.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI - a strategy giant
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI – a strategy giant

GameCentral readers discuss the best strategy games ever made, from Command & Conquer to Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Tolly and was inspired by the unusual number of new strategy games that have been released on console and PC this summer.

The most common suggestions included classics such as Civilization, XCOM, and Into The Breach, but while Advance Wars was also mentioned a lot, it was more in the context of people never having played it (since there hasn’t been a new one for years) than anything else.

The king of strategy

There can be only one answer for this and it’s got to be Civilization. I remember playing the second game on my very first PC and was absolutely engrossed, even though I was nine or something and probably should’ve been playing platformers on my Mega Drive.

Civilization is one of the few strategy games that I think everyone has heard of, even if I’m not sure whether they know how it works or not. It’s actually very simple at the basic level, as you explore the map, and try to build-up cities in areas with enough natural resources to help you research new technologies and expand your empire.

It gets more complicated in the late stages of the game but the combat is basically just walking up to an enemy and bumping into them, so there’s not much to get your head round if you want to give it a go. I do advise it though as I firmly believe it’s one of the best games ever made and if you only play one strategy game it should be this.
Watson

Recent success

Ordinarily I wouldn’t say I was much of a strategy buff but one franchise I do really enjoy is Fire Emblem, so you can imagine how happy I’ve been at its recent leap in popularity and success. While I do accept GC’s criticisms of Three House, and certainly wish it had been given a bigger budget (or that Tecmo Koei were better developers) I’ve still loved its mix of strategy and role-playing.

The gameplay is very similar to Advance Wars (which I dearly miss) especially now they’ve all but got rid of the weapons triangle for swords, axes, and lances but as well as controlling battles in the turn-based mode you also get to talk to people like in a role-playing game.

At first this all seems a bit silly and even creepy but gradually the characters open up and you realise they’re a lot more well-rounded than they first seemed. Not only do you get more interested in what they’re about but by making and encouraging friendships they become much more efficient on the battlefield. It’s a brilliant mix of systems and even with the cheesy dialogue I’ve been playing it almost non-stop since it came out.

Whether it’s better than the 3DS games I couldn’t say at this point but I’d recommend them all really, if you want to see how good a strategy game could be.
Taylor Moon

Total fan

I’m a great fan of the Total War series and have been pretty much since it started so I’m bound to say that, but which one is a bit trickier. In an unusual turn of events the series has got better pretty much ever time but has seen a particular upsurge in recent years, so I think the two main contenders are Warhammer I and II (basically two halves of the same game) and the Three Kingdoms.

The variety the different Warhammer races adds is fantastic and while I’m sure there were some fans that turned their noses up at all the xtreme fantasy stuff it really worked as a game. Three Kingdoms is a bit more sober but still quite extrovert compared to the earlier games, with the non-realistic play mode having basically superhero characters that get into cool little duels.

You can turn that off and play it as a historical epic if you want though and either way I find it very addictive and am constantly coming back to play as different characters. The graphics are really good too, which is not something you normally expect from a strategy game, so that’s another angle for people.
Iceman

Supreme entertainment

It’s a hard one, the original Command & Conquer got me into PC gaming and I’d followed it all the way to Kane’s Wrath, where I finally got fed up of it. I’m really quite excited for the remasters and hopefully that’ll lead onto Red Alert 2 being re-done and I can play online with my friend again. The fact that there is only one resource to worry about and the simple interface makes it a firm favourite.

But then, there’s Supreme Commander; the first one, not that watered-down sequel that came out.

Yeah it still takes a decent PC to run well even after all this time – it’s really the scope of the battlefields that bring this game into its own; such huge landscapes that you absolutely must have strategy to be viable. It didn’t have the same cheesiness as Red Alert’s units but they were so varied and bizarre they made each faction play incredibly differently. Ships that grow legs? Giant spiders that can crush smaller enemies just by walking over them? Artillery emplacements with enough range to cover the entire map? Love it.

I’m just really terrible at generating an economy in the game and I’m usually left badly behind but if I could get my head around that it would be my number one strategy game of all time.
Sven

Best vs. favourite

I have played a lot of strategy games, particularly those with role-playing elements. For example, Disgaea, Advance Wars, and Valkyria Chronicles are some of my favourite franchises.

The best strategy games I have played are SteamWorld Heist and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Both have excellent mechanics and are brilliantly executed.

The Hot Topic however asked for favourite strategy game and that is a toss-up between Disgaea 4 and Valkyria Chronicles 4. I am actually playing Valkyria Chronicles 4 at the moment, which has probably skewered my decision but it is currently my favourite strategy game. I have always loved the way you move the characters and aim in third person as it makes it more of a strategic, turn-based, action game than a straight-up tactics game.

Although the real reason Valkyria Chronicles 4 is number one for me is the humanisation of characters. The game is really four parts soap opera, one part strategy game. I was really tempted to nominate the antagonist Klaus Walz in last week’s Hot Topic, as he is effortlessly likeable and charming. There are not many video games characters I would describe as a gentlemen but Klaus Walz is one. And he is the bad guy!

Strategy games are likely to always be niche as the games industry is focused towards 18 to 25 year old males and strategy games appeal more to older people. However, as the gaming demographic becomes older I think strategy games will be able to maintain, and perhaps improve upon, their current levels of popularity. Especially if hybrid consoles like the Switch exist in future console generations as strategy games are ideal for portable systems.
PazJohnMitch

Stealthy strategy

I’d like to nominate a game that was mentioned briefly when Oxygen Not Included, by the same developer, came out and that’s Invisible, Inc. I haven’t played a lot of strategy games but this one caught my imagination and became one of my favourite PlayStation 4 games.

It’s kind of similar to XCOM (which is also great) but the theme is a sort of James Bond style spy story, which means that there’s a bigger emphasis on stealth than combat. It works brilliantly well and even though it’s turn-based it’s super tense when you think you’re going to be found out. If you don’t think strategy games can be exciting and emotional this is the one I’d suggest people try, it’s a really hidden gem.

Intelligent design

I don’t think I’ve ever played a real-time strategy game, unless something like Cannon Fodder counts, but my favourite turn-based ones are XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Into The Breach.

Enemy Unknown was the first XCOM (or any game of its type) I’d played but it was an extremely enthusiastic and convincing preview you put out in 2012 that got me on board and your very positive review sealed the deal.

For the first few playthroughs, I enjoyed it a lot but it wasn’t until I returned over two years later to get all the Achievements that I realised it was one of my favourite ever games. In late 2014 I played nothing else for three months straight.

I’ve played and loved XCOM 2 but have yet to give it the same dedication. I hope I end up feeling the same about it when I go back but Enemy Unknown just felt – I’m not sure if ‘simpler’ is the word; maybe more distilled.

One thing the series gets so right is how to break up the tactical missions to prevent them from feeling monotonous. The meta game that achieves this is one of the great delights of gaming, instilling an incredible sense of wellbeing and empowerment when things are going well and of panic when they’re not.

It’s a key element missing from a lot of similar turn-based games, including Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (to which I’d give a special mention but it really did need a higher level objectives system) and Fire Emblem (I only ever managed a few hours of Awakening but felt it was a bit too dry and slow in comparison).

I’ve typically gone on long enough but just a quick mention of Into The Breach, which is so perfectly suited to the Switch that it almost single-handedly consumed my entire Christmas holiday last year. I imagine (but can’t personally confirm) it’s similar to Advance Wars but that’s another one I never played. Again, it was your review that convinced me but the price for a game with such depth, replayability and variety of strategy should make it a no-brainer even for those who are apathetic to the genre.

That game also makes me wish XCOM 2 was somehow available on Switch, as I’d play it a lot more with the added convenience, but I’ve seen how much the PlayStation 4 struggles with it.

Above all, XCOM and Into The Breach both demonstrate how little all the distracting state of the art bells and whistles matter when met with intelligent design, depth and pure (distilled) satisfaction.

Four great video games that need a sequel – Reader’s Feature

Eternal Champions - probably not in line for a reboot
Eternal Champions – probably not in line for a reboot

A reader names four classic games he’d love to see get a sequel, reboot, or remake… and he may be in luck with more than one of them.

1. Serious Sam

This is without a doubt my favourite first person shooter. It’s simple, no boring story, no annoying side characters, no silly restrictions like only two weapons at a time; it was an amazing fun game based on the fact you had many weapons and there were many, many enemies rushing you in large open areas. Most notably the screaming headless bombers, a terrifying sight to see rushing toward you over the dunes!

Maybe I’m behind the times but multiplayer doesn’t do it for me, levels like the last one on Serious Sam (before the last boss) where you’re basically in a long, large corridor where you can see a giant horde of enemies running towards you and you can’t go backwards… that’s fun!

(Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is supposedly out this year, although we confess we’ve never seen it in person – GC)

2. Eternal Champions

Beat ‘em-ups have had a resurgence as of late, but it’s difficult for newcomers trying to get into Guilty Gear, Mortal Kombat, and even Street Fighter. The stories are convoluted, there’s characters you’ve no idea about as it’s the 11th in the series, and techniques you’ve no idea about… I suggest a breath of fresh air with Eternal Champions.

On the Mega Drive it had a simple story: people through time who were killed unfairly are given a second chance to go back and right that wrong. It’s a simple story, to get a great varied cast of characters together. Special moves were varied and involved a charging meter, one that could be knocked back – a simple mechanic I’ve not seen anywhere else. Cyborgs fighting vampires and warlocks fighting fishmen is far more interesting than ninjas fighting other ninjas or a martial artist fighting a martial artist with fire.

3. Lucifer's Call

A Shin Megami Tensei title, this was on the PlayStation 2 but sadly I think went under the radar. Whilst playing Persona 5 recently I couldn’t help think of this game, my first MegaTen game. I loved it from the start. It was difficult, no hand-holding, and a Japanese role-playing game with a modern setting. It had simple yet at times striking visuals and a story that went nowhere I expected. I only hope with the popularity of Persona now this somehow, someday gets a look in for a remake. With its simple graphical style I dare say it wouldn’t need much tweaking.

(Lucifer’s Call, known as Nocturne in the U.S., was essentially Shin Megami Tensei III. Shin Megami Tensei V is currently in development for Switch and is confirmed to have a modern day setting. That doesn’t mean it’ll have any direct connection to Lucifer’s Call, but it sounds more promising than the disappointing Shin Megami Tensei IV – GC)

4. Light Crusader

I’m so glad this got added to the Mega Drive Mini, as I feel it’s an overlooked classic. An isometric adventure game, you play as a knight tasked with exploring an underground labyrinth to find missing townsfolk. You solve puzzles, you gain elements (the four classics) which you can mix and match any way you see fit, each with different results.

This, at the time, I thought was great. It had a great soundtrack, tough bosses (maybe due to the isometric view) but overall it had a great feeling to it, like you were truly a lone knight on a noble mission. A reboot would probably (hopefully) ditch the view, but still keep the story simple with the variety of puzzles and fighting.

A reader discusses the downside to having real cars and licensed music in video games: at some point those licences runs out.

Dakkar wrote several weeks ago about the demise of Driveclub and how the game is being removed from the PS Store at the end of August. Sony are also ending all online features on 31st March 2020 as well.

The licencing issue really does seem to pose a problem for games and it will certainly continue to, when they are no longer perceived as economically viable. Licensing car manufacturers seems to be a big hurdle and this is why we see one of the Forza games given away every summer, it seems, as the licences for the game expire later that year. Forza Motorsport 6 is free with Games with Gold in the second half of August; watch it disappear from digital sale before the end of the year.

(This Reader’s Feature was submitted before it was announced that Forza Motorsport 6 would be delisted on 15 September, so that prediction was right on the money – GC)

Digging a little deeper into this, I had a look on GameRankings.com for the top 50 games of the Xbox 360 generation to see which were made backwards compatible and the reasons for those which were not. Of these 50, 36 of them (72%) are backwards compatible and there were valid enough reasons for the other 14 not being backwards compatible:

  • Five were remastered, remade, or released cross-platform (Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, GTA V, Skyrim, Mark Of The Ninja)
  • Five are music games – also likely to have licence issues with the record labels, songs, artists, etc. (four Rock Band releases and Guitar Hero)
  • Three are racing games with the aforementioned car licence issue (Forza Motorsport 2, 3, and 4)
  • One is a yearly sport sim (FIFA 12)

Firstly, Microsoft can be credited for a sterling job with regards to backwards compatibility and getting their best titles on their next generation console and beyond. Secondly, it can be gleaned from these omissions from backwards compatibility that a digital future will be worrying with music and driving games, or just anything that requires licences in general.

Lego games have previously been delisted from sale; anything linked to another media property will likely go the same way. Maybe Marvel’s Spider-Man will go the same way in the future.

Back to the racing games though and here are three great racing titles that are both backwards compatible and available to buy digitally: Burnout Revenge, Daytona USA and Split/Second: Velocity. The reason they are still available, you ask? None of these titles feature real world cars.

Titles that are not available include all of the Need for Speed entries from the past generation (although current gen games are still available via EA Access), Driver: San Francisco, GRID, and Blur. The latter was somewhat of a retail failure, due to poor release scheduling, but all of these titles feature licensed cars.

People often ask why there are no good superhero games and this might be part of the problem. The licences are expensive to purchase and if they are successful, then you will need to continuously renew said licence to be able to keep it on sale. Perhaps this is why we have had three inFamous games from Sony over the last decade or so but zero Superman games. (That doesn’t quite work with DC characters as publisher Warner Bros. also owns DC Comics – GC)

Driveclub was never available physically at retail, but if you want to own a game indefinitely and be able to play it on systems going forwards, then it might be wise to make sure you buy the physical version of a game you love while you still can.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas proved exactly why they’re our favourite down-to-earth celebrity couple as they celebrated his 30th birthday.

Who else would proudly wear ridiculous, metallic, pointy party hats out in public to mark the milestone day?

Jophie Jurner, that’s who.

The adorable pair, who tied the knot in a secret Las Vegas wedding in May, rocked their headgear with true sartorial panache after a celebratory lunch at Sarabeth’s in New York.

Letting her fetching green hat do all the talking, Sophie, 23, kept the rest of her look casual – think oversized blue shirt, skintight white cycling shorts and trainers.

The birthday boy himself, Mr JJ, was similarly low-key in a blue T-shirt and jeans.

The lovebirds, who began dating in November 2016, were all cute and lovebirdy – holding hands and sharing a quick kiss as they strolled down the street.

Joe seemed to be loving life, which is only natural as Sophie has been giving him the birthday celebrations of dreams.

On Friday, the Game Of Thrones actress surprised him onstage during his Jonas Brothers concert with a big ol’ birthday cake.

He then conducted his thousands of fans as they sung happy birthday to him, before eating a giant mouthful of cake because why not.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1NdnbBhvd-/

And if that wasn’t enough, his new wife also shared a selection of soppy but adorable photos of Joe to mark the big day.

‘Happy 30th to my love and the best thing that’s ever happened to me @joejonas I love you,’ she wrote alongside a glorious sunset snap of the singer.

The couple tied the knot for a second time with a lavish affair in France in June – two months after spontaneously getting hitched following the VMAs.

Married life got off to a shaky start however, when their beloved dog Waldo, who Joe bought for Sophie, was run over in a ‘freak accident’.

The pair were apparently so shaken by the tragedy that they had to get counselling and now have matching tattoos in tribute to their pooch.

Jane Fonda has led the slew of Hollywood stars paying tribute to her little brother, acting legend Peter Fonda.

The Easy Rider actor died aged 79 in Los Angeles on Friday following a battle with lung cancer.

His family said in a statement: ‘In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts.

‘While we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life. In honour of Peter, please raise a glass to freedom.’

And after the tragic news broke, Jane Fonda, 81, commemorated her ‘sweet-hearted baby brother’ and said he ‘went out laughing’.

‘I am very sad. He was my sweet-hearted baby brother,’ the actress said.

‘The talker of the family. I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days. He went out laughing.’

She was joined by other stars like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nancy Sinatra, Kathy Griffin and Rob Reiner in remembering the two-time Oscar nominee.

(500) Days Of Summer star Joseph shared a black and white snap of Peter on Twitter and wrote: ‘ICON.’

Comedian Kathy Griffin posted a thread to Twitter, recalling her first meeting with Fonda and calling him an ‘actor’s actor’.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1PiCSeh5vB/

‘I think the first time he approached me was 10 or 15 years ago and I was blown away because he went out of his way to come up to me, very casual not acting like a Hollywood phony at all and would tell me to “keep at it” and “keep doing my thing, man,”‘ she penned.

‘I loved it when he would call me “man”. I did! Every time I had the chance to run into him, he was the same guy. Not an ever-changing chamaeleon like so many Hollywood folks. Unbelievably giving and kind and comfortable.’

Filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed films like Stand By Me and When Harry Met Sally said Fonda’s ‘spirit will be missed’.

He tweeted: ‘My heart goes out to Jane over the loss of her brother. Peter Fonda was a revolutionary filmmaker during a revolutionary time. Born in the house I now live in, his spirit will be missed.’

Nancy Sinatra shared a snap of herself with Peter from their 1966 drama The Wild Angels and wrote: ‘Godspeed, Heavenly Blues. You will carry my heart with you wherever you may ride.’

British actor Cary Elwes, best known for starring  in Netflix’s Stranger Things, praised Fonda’s work in independent film.

‘RIP #PeterFonda. A legend not only on screen but for helping create the independent film industry. There will never be another like him. Our condolences to Bridget and his family,’ he said.

Rocky star Carl Weathers tweeted: ‘Years ago. I had time, in front of cameras, with the legendary Peter Fonda. He was a gentleman, through and through. RIP, Legend!’

Ava DuVernay, the creator of Netflix drama When They See Us, shared a selfie of her with the actor and said: ‘Rest In Peace, Kind Sir.’

Peter was nominated for two Oscars throughout his career and won Golden Globes for best actor in Ulee’s Gold and best-supporting actor for The Passion of Ayn Rand.

In 1968, he produced, co-wrote and starred in Easy Rider, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for best original screenplay, while Jack Nicholson was nominated for best-supporting actor.

Faye Dunaway sued by her assistant for allegedly calling him ‘a little homosexual boy’

Actress Faye Dunaway is being sued by her former assistant for allegedly calling him a ‘little homosexual boy’.

The Oscar-winning actress is being taken to court by Michael Rocha, who claims she subjected him to ‘abusive demeaning tirades’ and fired him when he complained.

Michael had worked for Faye when she was cast for Tea At Five – the one-woman play she was fired from in July for reportedly slapping a crew member.

He was paid $1,500 (£1,200) a week for duties like taking the screen legend to rehearsals, doing her shopping and encouraging her to take her medicine.

The former staffer alleged that Faye ‘regularly and relentlessly subjected plaintiff to abusive demeaning tirades,’ according to court papers obtained by RadarOnline.com.

The Mommy Dearest actress also used the fact that he’s homosexual to ‘demean and humiliate him at work’ and called him a ‘little homosexual boy’ and him and other staff ‘little gay people,’ he claimed.

Michel claimed he told the play’s manager about Faye’s alleged slurs but was fired two weeks later because she was ‘not comfortable’ with him anymore.

Faye has not yet responded to the lawsuit. Metro.co.uk has contacted her representatives for comment.

It comes after Dunaway was booted off Tea At Five at the end of July for allegedly mistreating the staff.

‘The producers of Tea at Five announced today that they have terminated their relationship with Faye Dunaway,’ a statement to Deadline confirmed.

‘Plans are in development for the play to have its West End debut early next year with a new actress to play the role of Katharine Hepburn.’

Tea at Five is a one-woman play about Katharine Hepburn’s recovery from a car accident and Faye had already performed the play in a pre-Broadway tryout in Boston between 22 June to 14 July.

But the final week’s performance was reportedly cancelled because she ‘slapped and threw things at crew members who were trying to put on her wig’ moments before the curtains went up.

Cheryl’s waxwork at Madam Tussauds in London has been taken down.

The 36-year-old’s statue, which was first introduced in 2010, is being stored in the world famous museum’s archives.

Bosses have made the move because they want ‘figures to best represent what our visitors want to see’.

It’s like the end of an era for poor Chez!

‘Our Cheryl figure is currently being stored in the London archives,’ a representative from the attraction told The Sun.

‘This isn’t uncommon for our figures, as from time to time we do change who we have in the attraction,’ the spokesperson continued.

‘We are constantly reviewing our collection of figures to best represent what our visitors want to see.’

So if fans want to catch a glimpse of Cheryl’s perfect bone structure, they’ll just have to tune into The Greatest Dancer, which she’s currently filming for BBC One.

The former Girls Aloud star recently shared a snap of the dancing competition’s new line-up, which includes Taylor Swift’s BFF Todrick Hall and Love Island’s Curtis Pritchard.

The three are joined by Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse, Glee star Matthew Morrison – with a questionable moustache – and hosts Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo.

It comes after comedian Katharine Ryan made a shocking gag about Cheryl’s near-fatal battle with malaria in 2010.

Showing that there was no such thing as a sensitive topic, the Canadian comic took a swipe at Cheryl on The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan.

‘The nation’s sweetheart,’ Katherine is reported as saying by The Sun.

‘She’s so tiny though. If she was born in the winter, she wouldn’t have made it. Tiny!’

‘And you just can’t knock her down,’ the Canadian comedian continued. ‘Even God tried. Malaria! She won’t die. She’s a very strong woman.’

If you’ve been swept into the world of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, then you’ll be just as giddy as we are about filming kicking off for season three.

The Amazon Prime drama about a 1950s Jewish-housewife-turned-comedian is our favourite binge-watch and season two left us more addicted than ever.

Thankfully we’ll all be getting our fix of Midge Maisel soon because the cast hit the streets of New York to commence filming this week.

Rachel Brosnahan, who plays the titular character, looked every inch the retro dream in a mint-green A-line dress with a bow-adorned waist that we want to buy and wear right now.

The 29-year-old finished off her look with a green hat, a blue wool coat and pale blue pumps and it’s just all too sartorially perfect.

She was joined by Alex Borstein, who plays Midge’s long-suffering manager Susie Byerson, for a take that saw them struggle out of a building’s revolving doors while carrying about ten thousand cardboard boxes.

They then made their way into a bright yellow cab in what was possibly the most New York scene ever.

Seems Rachel was feeling the heat of filming at the height of summer in a wool dress, as she kept herself cool with a hand fan and somehow even managed to make that look sophisticated.

The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel cast began filming season three – which was confirmed last April – this week after wrapping their final table read.

Characters lined up to return to the Emmy-winning show are Michael Zegen’s Joel, Tony Shalhoub’s Abe, Marin Hinkle’s Rose, Kevin Pollak’s Moishe, and Caroline Aaron’s Shirley.

Viewers will also be treated to some newbies, like This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown, who is set to appear in three episodes.

Stranger Things star Cary Elwes and Set It Up actress Stephanie Hsu will also be getting amongst the ’50 glamour.

As for last season’s heartthrob Zachary Levi – who played Midge’s love interest Dr.Benjamin Ettenburg – it’s all a bit up in the air.

Zachary told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘If there’s an opportunity to come back and wrap [Ben and Midge’s] storyline up, I would love to.’

We can only hope and pray.

The Upper West Doctor’s romance with Midge was left on the ultimate cliffhanger in season two, as she turned down his proposal and decided to leave New York to go on tour.

The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel has nabbed two Golden Globes and a whopping five Emmys for season one, as well as three nominations and one win at the 2019 Golden Globes for season two.

Ryan Reynolds reveals epic present Blake Lively gave him and honestly no-one is worthy

Blake Lively just gave husband Ryan Reynolds the best present ever (Picture: Getty)

We don’t know if it’s her ridiculously voluminous hair, her quick wit or the gift of Gossip Girl, but Blake Lively has always been our girl crush.

But when we heard what the actress did for her husband Ryan Reynolds, she became forever immortalised as a goddess amongst women.

You think we’re being dramatic? Read on.

Ryan took to Instagram to share several photos of the ‘greatest present’ Blake ever gave him – a painting she had specially commissioned by his favourite artist Danny Galiote.

Ok, that already gives her about a thousand wife brownie points, but there’s more.

Ryan revealed that if you look closer, the painting – which depicts a paperboy walking with a dog down a quiet street – is absolutely filled with nods to the Deadpool actor’s life.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1KdQPoBj6J/

From featuring his childhood home to his idol as a kid, Lively left no stone unturned to make the piece as personal as possible.

Ryan – who is expecting baby number three with Blake – explained in the caption: ‘My first job was delivering newspapers for the Vancouver Sun.

‘The house in the painting is my childhood home. My brothers and I spent years trying to kill each other on that lawn.’

He went on: ‘There are a lot of Easter eggs in the painting, including my idol, John Candy on the front page of the newspaper.

‘The house no longer stands but it’s a living, breathing thing in my head. This piece of art is the greatest present my wife has ever given me.’

And because it wouldn’t be Ryan if there wasn’t a touch of gentle trolling, he added: ‘If there’s ever a fire, I’m grabbing this first. I’ll come back for Blake.’

The 42-year-old’s celeb mates flocked to the comments section to declare that basically, Blake is the best human being in the world.

Ugly Betty star America Ferriera gushed, ‘That’s the sweetest. She’s the best gift giver,’ while singer Sarah McLachlan added, ‘She’s a keeper!’

Reynold’s isn’t normally that soppy though – normally he loves a good tease.

Case in point, when he joked that he and Blake have only had sex twice in their seven-year romance to conceive daughters James, four, and Inez, two.

That happened from sex, just FYI,’ he quipped of daughter Inez, while appearing on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

‘So you’ve only had sex the twice?’ host Ellen joked in response, to which Ryan replied: ‘Just the two times, yeah.

‘It’s a mercenary job, it’s just clinical. Hoping for a third soon.’

Heather Locklear has been ordered to spend a month in a mental health facility after pleading no contest to a series of assault charges.

The Melrose Place actress was facing eight charges, including six involving battery on a police officer or paramedic.

The 57-year-old must check into the residential facility by September 6 and spend the full 30 days there or she will be sentenced to 120 days in jail, TMZ claimed.

Healther, who was arrested last June, will be on three years of unsupervised probation and was ordered not to posses any weapons, non-prescribed medications or alcohol.

She was arrested last February on suspicion of felony domestic battery and three counts of battery on a police officer.

After being accused of hitting her boyfriend Chris Heisser, Locklear was charged with domestic abuse – but those charges were dropped in March.

She was arrested again in June after allegedly attacking a police officer and EMT who responded to a disturbance call at her house.

Police claimed she was ‘extremely intoxicated’ and ‘arguing with friends and family’ when they arrived.

After being released from jail on bail, Locklear voluntarily checked herself into hospital ‘for the treatment of alcohol abuse and mental health issues’.

It was claimed that she had tried to overdose within 72 hours of being released.

Her parents had called police on Locklear earlier that month for threatening to turn a gun on herself.

She was placed on 5150 psychiatric hold in November for 72 hours after a therapist raised concerns that an ‘ongoing mental health issue’ had resurfaced.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemworth announced their split last week, just months after getting married.

But, after the Hannah Montana star, 26, released a song seemingly about their break up, it has been claimed those closest to them are urging the on-off pair to reconsider.

‘Their families have urged them to take some time to breathe before they make any final decisions,’ an insider said.

‘They are both upset about how this has blown up and are both hurting right now.’

Miley raised eyebrows after releasing Slide Away on Friday, with all the lyrics hinting at ‘letting go’ and ‘feeling lost’ in her romance with the 29-year-old.

One of the biggest giveaways in the track – which has shot up the charts – comes when she belts out: ‘Move on, we’re not 17.

‘I’m not who I used to be, you said that everything changed, you’re right I’m grown now.’

An insider has now claimed there is ‘definitely a chance they will get back together,’ adding to People: ‘[They are] trying not to communicate and really give each other space.

’Neither Miley or Liam have decided when they are going to take the next step of filing for divorce, because there is a chance of reconciliation.’

The pair first met back in 2009, starring opposite alongside each other in The Last Song.

However, a spokesperson for the We Can’t Stop singer confirmed their split last week, saying at the time: ‘Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time

‘Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.’

She was later spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter – who recently split with Brody Jenner – as they enjoyed a girly holiday to Lake Como.

It was previously claimed that Liam’s ‘partying’ was actually to blame for their relationship breaking down, with his now-ex

The Hunger Games star’s sources have denied this, stating Miley was acting like the ‘old Miley’ again, while her beau just wanted to ‘settle down’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Miley and Liam for a comment.

Paul Hollywood admits Great British Bake Off challenges are ‘too difficult’

Great British Bake Off has tasked bakers with some difficult technical over the years and now judge Paul Hollywood has admitted that they’ve been a bit too harsh on previous contestants.

The last nines series has seen hopefuls challenged to make tasty but complex treats ranging from pretzels, jam doughnuts, chocolate souffle and raspberry blancmange.

But this year’s Channel 4 show will see the panel scaling down their requests.

‘It’s been interesting to come up with some unusual things this year – the challenges I think have been scaled back a little bit,’ Paul said.

‘I thought sometimes we’ve been running away with some of the challenges being too difficult.’

Co-host Prue Leith added that sometimes the most seasoned baker finds themselves stumped when tasked with the show’s difficult technicals.

‘Sometimes you can see a baker in the beginning and you think he or she will be fantastic and will just walk it’, she said.

‘And it’s quite worrying because you don’t really want somebody to just gallop ahead.

‘[But] they all at some point do really badly, so there’s a sort of seesaw and it’s really confusing.’

Will the judges be switching up the rogue campfire pita bread from last year’s final to something like a basic fairy cake? Only time will tell…

‘I see Rick and Cliff as one individual. Rick is feeling put upon,’ he added to OK! Magazine. ‘Life’s against him – and there are some of the greatest breakdown scenes I’ve ever seen from my friend Leo.’

Brad and Leo also starred in the ‘love letter to Hollywood’ alongside Margot Robbie, Lena Dunham, Al Pacino and basically any other huge name you can imagine.

The gang have all raved about just how much they bonded on set – as they weren’t distracted by their phones.

In fact, Tarantino banned phones altogether, meaning they kind of had no choice…

Producer David Heyman told Metro.co.uk: ‘Quentin doesn’t like visual effects, he’s very analogue, no mobile phones, when you show him things you show it on paper, you don’t show it on a computer.

‘No mobile phones on set, which is great. So he doesn’t like visual effects, so there is very, very, very little in here, he wanted it to be real.’

Seriously intense.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is in cinemas now.

Madonna celebrates 61st birthday in style as she downs shots to kick off three-night celebration

Madonna has proven that age is just a number as she celebrated her 61st birthday in ultimate style – all while donning an army general costume.

Because why not?

Our Material Girl proved she’s definitely still got it as she rocked the costume, downed shots, and danced the night away during a three-night celebration for her big day.

The Like A Prayer singer, who recently showed off her sweet daughters dressing up in her clothes, took to Instagram to show fans the wild night.

Madge can be seen necking a shot like a pro, being surprised with birthday donuts that spell out ‘Happy Birthday Madame X’, and throwing some shapes while the crowd chanted for her.

You couldn’t ever say she does things by halves.

‘This is the beginning of three marvellous nights of celebration and it all starts with donuts,’ the star reflected in the video.

She wrote in the caption: ‘Madame ❌ is a birthday Girl…………………Grateful to the Universe for all that she has received ! 🎉🎂🍾🌈 🙏🏼. #donuts #madamex #birthday#rehearsals.’

She’s really in love with those donuts and we can’t even blame her.

In another snap, she rocks a ‘four star general’ costume, with fishnets and shades and it feels a little like we’ve just had a religious experience.

Despite her wild night out, Madame X clearly knows that the hustle never stops as she shared behind the scenes clips from rehearsals for her tour and teased some choreography from the show.

And that comes just days after she blew our minds by throwing a few mind-bending stretches our way.

Sharing a video online, the superstar swung her legs up by her ears, before swivelling them around and holding them poker-straight in the air.

Oh, and did we mention she did all of this while on her phone?

Meanwhile, the music icon has been taking no nonsense from haters, after she hit back at critics of her tour.

In the video, a rehearsal for her Madame X tour, Madonna is writhing around on the floor in a huge tube wearing her new eye-patch look. And not everyone took well to it.

‘Your fear of what I represent is palpable and the fact that you follow me and take the time to make remarks is an advertisement for your stupidity – ignorance and intolerance for that which is different,’ she hit back.

‘If I am not relevant then prove it. Stop following me. Lol.’

She said what she said.
