The Bond girls are just as essential to the 007 films as the spy himself, and in a new vlog Spectre director Sam Mendes has spoken about just why Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux were chosen to fill these femme fatale roles.
Monica plays Lucia Sciarra, who the actress describes as ‘an Italian widow with secrets’ while Lea stars as Madeleine Swann, the doctor daughter of an assassin.
‘In Spectre, the two women who Bond hooks up with, both have great mystery, they both have depths and for that you need fantastic actresses,’ Sam said of his leading ladies.
‘[Monica has] an incredibly seductive presence… [Madeleine is soulful and feisty so it couldn’t be a newcomer [to the role].’
