Shame and 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen is set to direct a major new six-part drama for BBC1.
The series will focus on the West Indian community and will span three decades.
The starting point for the show will be the infamous 1968 ‘rivers of blood’ speech by Enoch Powell and will be based around a small restaurant called The Mangrove in Ladbroke Grove in West London. The as-yet-untitled drama will tell the stories of the people living in the area and BBC Controller Charlotte Moore said that it will be set against the backdrop of an ‘often hostile environment.’
