Earlier this week it was announced that Doctor Who fan-favourite Ingrid Oliver is to reprise her role as scientist Osgood in a new spin-off series from audio drama company, Big Finish.
Titled UNIT: The New Series, it also stars Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart – another hit with the fans in episodes such as The Day of the Doctor and, more recently, the Doctor Who Series 8 finale.
With no Doctor Who spin-offs currently on television (Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures have both finished for the time being), here are some thoughts to what the BBC could draw on from the show’s illustrious history for a new telly series.
