Katherine Kelly drama Cheat comes to an end on Thursday night, having kept us gripped across the week on ITV.
The four-part thriller stars the former Coronation Street actress as university lecturer Leah, who accuses one of her students, Rose (Molly Windsor) of cheating – leading to a spiral of seemingly uncontrollable and dangerous events.
With Wednesday night’s episode seemingly ending in murder and a shock twist which makes us realise we have been watching more than one cheat, Thursday is set to wrap things up as we (hopefully) discover who is guilty of the killing.
It’s all been gripping stuff – but will we see it back for a second outing?
Will there be a second series of Cheat?
If you’ve enjoyed the first series of the show and want to see where things might go next, we’ve got some bad news for you – as there is no second series planned.
ITV have confirmed that the show is ‘a standalone four-part drama’ and therefore it comes to an end on Thursday night. Booooo.
The whole thing has been tense to watch (Picture: ITV)
Still, you can always enjoy it all over again on the ITV Hub.
While the series has proven popular, it’s not been without its share of controversy also.

Rose (Molly Windsor) transformed into something far less entertaining (Picture: ITV)
What started out as a tense game of one-upwomanship descended into farce as ITV psycological thriller Cheat came to an end.
We found out early on that Rose (Molly Windsor) killed Adam (Tom Goodman-Hill), but the intelligent student couldn’t help herself and lied about her motives to make Leah’s (Katherine Kelly) dad Michael (Peter Firth) feel sorry for her.
She claimed to Michael that she killed Adam in self-defence, but when there were no more easily manipulated men around, she dropped the act.
Her act of violence wasn’t to protect herself but to protect her half sister, who she felt was much better off with her love rat husband.
This was an unconvincing change of heart for the character, as until that point it appeared she simply wanted to get under her real dad’s skin for not acknowledging her for years. But now she wants to do Leah a favour instead by murdering the man she loves because he’s a cheating scumbag.
Rose and Leah came face to face two years after she confessed to Michael about killing Adam (Picture: ITV)
Michael’s actions all those years ago went some way to explain why she wanted Adam dead. She proved him to be a cheater and they ruin lives as far as she’s concerned.
But Rose’s transformation from a complex, fascinating, young woman to a potential serial murderer with a hitman on speed dial was a massive leap.
A sudden five minute chat with Michael – a scene even Windsor sounded bored in – tried to explain Rose’s behaviour. But why would she confess to Michael of all people? She can’t stand the guy.
Michael abandoned Rose and her mother when she was a child (Picture: ITV)
And were we meant to punch the air when Rose decided to get Ben to kill William (Ade Edmondson)? William was an arsehole but murdering him is a stretch. She hardly spoke to him before, why not just carry that on?
A better, tighter story would be for Rose not to have killed Adam and instead reach out to Leah, with Leah reaching back and accepting she had a little sister, helping Rose to heal. The two of them could move forward together without Adam, Michael or William.
Or not move forward together – that’s fine too. There’s too much water under the bridge after all. But at least Rose would have maintained her integrity.

One of them will triumph before the two-hour special on Thursday night is over.
But just what does the winner of the series actually get?
Here’s what you need to know…
What does the winner of The Bachelor UK get?
The winner basically wins The Bachelor’s heart, and also has chance to form a relationship – possibly more – with Alex.
The contestants have so far been eliminated via a ‘rose ceremony’, which has seen Alex initially go on a succession of group dates with the women – presenting roses to the ones he wants to keep in contention.
As the numbers were whittled down he eventually went on individual dates with the contestants until just four remained – when it was time to visit their home towns and meet their families and friends.
The final will see him choose his winner – but in another potential twist, he may not pick a winner at all, if he decides none of the remaining women are for him. Gasp!
The two-hour finale kicks off on Channel 5 at 10pm.

Cheat aired its final episode on Thursday night on ITV (Picture: ITV)
*Warning, contains spoilers!
Cheat aired its hotly-anticipated finale episode on Thursday night, tying up all the loose ends and most importantly revealing who Adam’s killer was.
While fingers were pointed in both Leah (Katherine Kelly) and Rose Vaughan’s (Molly Windsor) direction, it was Rose who was unveiled as his murderer – as well as being outed as Leah’s sister.
Rose confessed all to Leah’s dad Michael Shadley (Peter Firth), who unbeknownst to her was wearing a wire, prompting the police to swarm in and arrest the true villain while Leah was immediately released.
Rose killed Adam and plotted to kill her dad (Picture: ITV)
Initially calling Adam’s death self-defense, Rose said: ‘I didn’t know I was doing it but I had to. It was the only way to get him off me. Yeah, I killed him.’
After the police arrested Rose for Adam’s murder, the series jumped forward two-years and saw Leah living her life with the son she was expecting before her husband was killed.
Rose had just a few more weeks to wait until she was released, but that wasn’t where the story ended, oh no.
Ending on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, the former student was keen to get her revenge on her dad for his betrayal of the century so called in a favour, where it was then left a mystery as to whether it was him or his dog that got the axe.
Viewers were unimpressed over the possibility of another pet death and took to Twitter to complain, writing: ‘Tell me he did NOT just kill that dog!’ and ‘Not the fucking dog!!’
Cheat is available to stream on ITV.

At the beginning of the year, she gave fans another glimpse at her close bond with her family, after getting her siblings’ initials tattooed on her forearm.
Sharing a photo of the design, the letters L, L, P, D, D and E could clearly be seen – for Louis, Lottie, Phoebe, Daisy, Doris and Ernest.
Also around this time, she reportedly posted that she had ‘stopped drinking and smoking cigarettes’, before opening up about mental health in a Twitter Q&A session.
Chatting to followers, she explained ‘more education’ was needed around the often ‘misunderstood’ ‘disease of addiction’
‘I think there is a lot of stigma around addiction and the disease of addiction is misunderstood,’ she wrote, according to the Mirror.

Alex Marks chose Alicia Oates to be his girlfriend on The Bachelor (Picture: Channel 5)
The Bachelor’s Alex Marks has chosen Alicia Oates to be his girlfriend, bringing his search for love to an intense end in Antigua.
In a surprising move, the 31-year-old decided to pick the Essex native, rejecting Charlotte Tyler and Charlotte Edwards at the final hurdle.
After sending the aforementioned Charlotte T and Charlotte E back to the UK, he told Alicia: ‘You’re amazing, and your spirit is infectious. We giggle and laugh, and that’s something you know I want in the rest of my life.
‘But… I have been worried about what the other girls have said about you, and your age, and whether or not you’re really ready for a big relationship.’
Alex Marks channelled his inner Simon Cowell in the big reveal (Picture: Channel 5)
Channelling his inner Simon Cowell – after a very long pause – he continued: ‘But I followed my heart, and Alicia, I’ve fallen in love with you.’
After a very, very passionate kiss, he added : ‘It’s you! I have not felt like this in a very long time, and I want us to be happy together’.
Charlotte T and Charlotte E were sent packing (Picture: Channel 5)
In fact, the clip in question shows a close-up of a contestant’s hand, showing viewers a ring 25-year-old wore constantly during her time in the series.
Previously flocking to Twitter, an unimpressed fan fumed: ‘Why would Channel 5 The Bachelor give away the identity on the winner in clips from the final red rose ceremony? Too easy to work out who the winner is.’
With another posting: ‘Can’t believe Alicia wins The Bachelor UK. Sad for Reanne, we’ve all been there love…. Fuming.’
‘What I love about this series is in the final, which you’ll have to wait two weeks for, the girl that he chooses is the girl he followed his heart from the start, who you probably wouldn’t expect,’ he told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning.
Well, considering all Alex did in Worthing was pack that PDA on with Charlotte T, we’ll give him that…

Chance The Rapper and Kirsten Corley are expecting their second child together (Picture: GC Images)
Chance The Rapper’s new wife, Kirsten Corley, is pregnant with their second child.
The 25-year-old confirmed their happy news on Instagram, with a very simple, slightly old-school screenshot from his notes section, letting everyone know their new arrival will be here in September.
‘We pregnant again,’ it read. ‘It’s a girl. JESUS CHRIST WE LOVE YOU GOD.’
‘New baby droppin September,’ he captioned the upload, for his 9.5million followers, suggesting the mum-to-be – with whom he already shares daughter Kensil – is three months pregnant.
Just in case we didn’t quite get the message, he also added ‘BABYMANBABYMAN YEA DATS ME,’ in the comments.
Subtle, hun.
It’s a little different to some of the baby announcements we’ve seen in the past – looking at you, Beyonce’s floral, baby bump goodness – but we’re into it.
And it didn’t take long for the No Problem rapper to be inundated with congratulatory messages.
‘All the blessings to you and yours man,’ a fan posted, while another said: ‘Awee congrats on the buddle of joy!!’
Chance and Kirsten got married over the weekend (Picture: Getty)
But many, many more were living for the way he decided to drop the news – a little like an album release.
‘LMFAO HE SAID DROPPING SEPTEMBER, like she’s an album I’m weak,’ one commented.
‘Why he announce it like he droppin the sickest album of 2019 (sic),’ an Instagram user added.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were among those who celebrated the happy couple at the nuptials, but the pair weren’t quite model wedding guests as they were late to the big day.
Not ideal…

Love, Death + Robots is a blast (Picture: Alex Hickson/Netflix)
Rarely can a show launch today with the potential to change the landscape of television, but once again Netflix has proven they are the trail-blazers to do just that in David Fincher’s Love, Death & Robots.
After Charlie Brooker flipped everything we knew on its head with Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch, the obvious question was: what would the streaming giant pull out of the bag next?
Well, here it is, 18 disturbing animated shorts thrown into a genre-bending cocktail; some straight out of a trippy Pixar movie, while others are clearly inspired by the deepest darkest depths of Manga – each one hitting every note, even if they’re playing to a very different tune.
Of the six instalments Metro.co.uk were fortunate to watch this week, Sonnie’s Edge kicked the series off with a bloodbath to rival Game of Thrones. Two competing fighters control two enormous beasts in a high-stake, high-money battle to the death, where if the graphic images of torn off heads won’t leave leave you cowering, the sound of crushing skulls will.
From that to When The Yogurt Took Over, the most family-friendly sketch here – at a stretch – sees a bowl of breakfast gradually take over human kind in what initially looks like the opening short film to a Despicable Me movie, but is actually incredibly bleak.
And then Three Robots is adorable: three machines baffled by the basic amusement of humans, who have been extinct for thousands of years – WTF is a basketball? A jukebox? IS THAT ALL THERE WAS?
What if Adolf Hitler was killed by a stampede of horses or an army of anti-nazis from the future? Here are the questions we never asked for but will be eternally grateful to have the answer to in Alternate Histories. Basically, it’s Kenny from South Park meets Groundhog Day, and when you throw Hitler into the mix, it’s, understandably, a substantially satisfying cocktail.
Sadly though, all three films score brownie points for being the only films here not to objectify women – what an accolade – which otherwise seems to be a running theme. The Witness is an immediate thriller from the get-go, when a young girl accidentally catches a murder and is subsequently chased by the killer, but wearing nothing but an open robe when she loses her clothes working in a brothel.
It’s worth noting there’s an abundance of vaginas and full frontal female nudity throughout Love, Death & Robots, but not a single penis – or female director – so make of that what you will.
In an otherwise monumental series, that’s the only gripe – but one which is too obvious to ignore. During, Aquila Rift, the lead hero wakes up alongside his crew to find their space craft has drifted light years off course, the word he knew is long gone and they’re basically ghosts destined to be endlessly drifting through space.
Although, also on board is a former love interest and with the world a forgotten memory, inevitably there’s only one past time to keep themselves occupied. It’s drowning in evidence of the male gaze, which is unfortunate.
But Love, Death & Robots is a blast, albeit a problematic one. Each episode manages to achieve astounding levels of tension, drama and poignancy in 15 minutes. It’s also stunning, there are genuine moments when the animation is as believable as any live action feature but through worlds impossible to achieve in film.
With Bandersnatch so fresh in our minds, it would be a disservice not to pay kudos to Netflix for topping themselves again. With two of the most prolific series launching with just three months of each other, how could anyone else keep up?
Love, Death & Robots is available to stream on Netflix today.

The sequel to Ubisoft’s shared world shooter is a massive game but with a few simple tips you can get to the endgame before you know it.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is officially released today. Some people may have played it already, if they paid extra for one of the special editions, but if you’re starting out fresh today then the game can be quite a daunting prospect. The gameplay and combat is pretty easy to pick up but there’s such a mountain of content that just deciding where to go next can be as difficult as fighting the bad guys.
We outlined the basics of the game in our review in progress, but it’ll still be until next week before we can offer a final score. That’s because the game saves a lot of its best content for the endgame, where you get to choose a specialisation for your character and get a signature weapon.
There’s a lot of other things that change at that point, but to get that far means playing through the story campaign and getting your character to level 30. If that’s something you want to do sooner rather than later then here are some useful tips on taking the shortest route.
Pick the perfect perks
After a short tutorial section at the start of the game you’ll find yourself at a bombed-out version of the White House where you’ll have to make some important choices about your character and their abilities, starting with perks.
These are passive abilities that work in the background and at first seem to offer only minor benefits. But if you’re aiming to get to level 30 ASAP then what you need is experience points (XP) and there are a number of accolade perks that double the amount of XP you get by performing headshots, multikills, hitting armour weakpoints, and tactical kills.
The game will force you to pick a second weapon slot first, but after that choose the XP multipliers and you’ll find yourself levelling up much more quickly.
The Division 2 – experience is all that matters
Select the correct skills
Which skill you pick has a less direct effect on your progress, but some are clearly much more useful than others, especially at the beginning. Lots of people pick the Striker Drone first, for the obvious reasons that a) it’s really cool and b) it can attack enemies without any input from you. That makes it, and the Assault Turret, very handy if you’re playing on your own.
Conversely the Reviver Hive, Chem Launcher, and Fixer Drone are only useful if you’re regularly playing in a team, so be very careful about picking them first. Skills like the Firefly and Seeker Mine are useful but they’re more specialised than the others and probably something you want to leave until you’re more experienced with the game.
The Crusader Shield is kind of in the middle, with its mix of defensive and offensive capabilities, but it can be tricky to use correctly and is more useful when you’ve got an ally to retreat towards.
Cover is everything
Once you’re out of the White House you’ll be ready to tackle your first proper story mission. By this point you should already have a handle on the basic controls, but the one tactic to keep in mind is to stay in cover all the time. Lots of third person games have a cover system but The Division 2’s is unique in that it will move you automatically from cover to cover as long as you just point where you want to go and keep your finger on the promoted button.
If the new position is quite far away that can take a good couple of seconds and if you let go of the button at all during that time you’ll be left standing in the open – which is not something you want to happen.
If you suspect enemies are nearby use cover to sneak up on them, and if you can actually see them then get as close as you dare before opening fire as they’ll quickly scatter once they know you’re there (grenades can be very handy here).
Cover is vital but you have to keep moving to make it effective or you’ll just get pinned down and/or get grenades thrown at you. Reinforcements can also arrive without any warning, so keep looking around you all the time and keep a close eye on where bullets are coming from.
The Division 2 – you can’t go wrong with a drone
Maximise mission experience
You’ll notice every main story mission has a recommendation for the experience level you need to be to complete it. If you’re too low it’ll be in the red and you’re not advised to tackle it, but if the number is lower than your current level then you’ve also done something wrong.
Completing missions that are below your current experience level will reduce the amount of XP you get as a reward, so keep a close eye on all your available missions (via the main map) and make sure you complete them before they become too easy. By the same logic you can get more XP for beating missions that are above your current level, but that’s obviously harder – although not necessarily that much more if you have a skilled co-op partner with you.
The flipside to this advice is to ignore side missions as much as possible. Some will be very tempting but the higher your level the more reward you get for completing them. That’s because you get XP equivalent to a third of your current level whenever you beat one, and that’s a lot more XP if you’re level twentysomething than if you’re just five or six.
So leave them till the end and you’ll get a lot more XP for your buck. But even then don’t complete them if you’re about to level up normally, as you won’t carry over the full amount of XP into the next level.
There are no complications when capturing control points or other random events, so feel free to take them on as and when you want, as their rewards don’t scale with your level.
Keep your eye on the projects
You might want to ignore the side missions until later on but never neglect the projects desk at your base of operations. You’ll get a steady build-up of parts and materials as you play and donating them to build up settlements provides a major XP reward for no additional effort. Sometimes you also need to donate specific gear, so don’t just sell or deconstruct old equipment without checking first.
Upgrading settlements also has the benefit of gaining you new followers, which in turn will unlock new missions and, importantly, offer rewards such as boosting your XP and adding new areas to your base. Sometimes this requires you to complete a public event, rather than just donating resources, but since it all gains you XP it’s all worth doing.
The Division 2 – mods rock
Mods are the superior choice
The Division 2 is a lot more customisable than the first game and that includes mods for all your gear. When you start getting to the good stuff (‘Superior’ or above) make sure you upgrade it with mods.
These work similarly to perks in that you have a variety of choices that add small bonuses, but if you’re racing to get to level 30 then the ones that increase how quickly you gain experience are going to be the most useful. The best thing about mods is that they work across multiple types of weapon, so you don’t have to worry about them being left attached to an obsolete gun.
One thing you shouldn’t bother with though is crafting weapons at the beginning of the game. You’ll be given the option but it’s not worth the materials, which are better used elsewhere or keep until you’ve got a better idea for what weapons you find the most effective. It’s much better to experiment with as many different guns as you can at the start and then begin to specialise once you get more serious.
Laura was not having one troll’s comment on her appearance tonight (Picture: Getty Images)
Laura Whitmore has shown us what happens if you come for her, after she expertly, and rightly, served a troll their dinner this evening.
The model and presenter had previously shared a shot of herself from on set, taken from the side.
Looking glossy and preened to perfection in the profile image, the 33-year-old showed off her photoshoot makeup, teamed with a hair style that involved soft curls and four pearl bobby-pins aligned in a hashtag.
Those feather brows, honestly, amazing (Picture: @thewhitmore)
However, it was Laura’s jawline that someone felt they had to comment on.
Which is why we can’t have nice things.
After they took the time to suggest Laura ‘has had her jaw bone shaved’ to make it ‘angular, straight and manly’, the presenter was having none of it.
She screenshot the comment in question and posted it to her own Instagram Story, adding: ‘Hate to break it to you, this is just my face! Same face I’ve always had as far as I’m aware.’
Her clapback was awesome (Picture: PA Wire)
In a series of other messages, she really wanted to bring the message home.
‘No wonder so many women feel pressured to change how they look! I’ve always had a weird shaped head,’ she continued in another post added this evening.
‘Imagine thinking I shaved my jaw?? I’ve never done anything and don’t particularly want to. This is how I look.’
She continued: ‘Although meant as an insult, I’ll take that comment as a compliment if that’s OK! Nothing bought on this face, #Igotitfrommymama.’
Because she’s an absolute legend and wanted to make sure the haters knew to jog on, she shared a video of herself as she focused on her chin.
Then, she stuck her tongue out. And…it was awesome.
Laura, who is dating Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, has long said plastic surgery just isn’t her thing. More power to those who go for it – but she once said she was more keen to adjust her portion sizes than go under the knife.
‘Personally, I don’t think plastic surgery is for me, but each to their own. I gauge my weight more by how tight my skinny jeans are,’ she told Express in 2015. ‘If I want to lose weight, I reduce portion sizes but I really just love food too much.
‘I’ve started running a lot. I try to do Bikram yoga at least four times a week too, first thing in the morning. It really is great, both physically and mentally.’

Want to make a show-stopping arrival? Then make like Taylor Swift and deck yourself out in sequins.
Taylor looked sensational as she led the red carpet arrivals at this year’s iHeart Radio Awards, held in Los Angeles on Thursday, thanks to her eye-catching outfit.
The Shake It Off singer opted for a unicorn-inspired sequinned playsuit and we’re all here for it.
Taylor added a pair of Sophia Webster’s trademark butterfly heels to her outfit and finished off her look with her hair swept back into a ponytail and a slick of pink lipstick. She makes it look so effortless, right?

Shay Mitchell was either vibing Taylor or got the sequinned memo, as she rocked up to the Microsoft Theatre in a metallic two-piece.
The Pretty Little Liars looked fierce on her arrival, as she rocked a new blonde look – ditching her usual brunette shade – and strutted down the red carpet in perspex heels.
Katy Perry, who recently got engaged to Orlando Bloom, arrived on the arm of Zedd and was followed by the likes of country singer Kacey Musgraves, supermodel Heidi Klum and Zara Larsson, who looked cute in a 50s inspired floral tea dress.
Other famous faces among the star-studded guestlist included John Legend and Steven Tyler, who will be among the audience when Taylor picks up her Tour of the Year award for her Reputation Stadium Tour.

Taylor revealed in a recent interview with ELLE magazine that she had been ‘terrified’ of going on tour in the wake of the Manchester bombing at Ariana Grande’s concert in the city in May 2017.
‘After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting, I was completely terrified to go on tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe over seven months,’ Swift said.
‘There was a tremendous amount of planning, expense, and effort put into keeping my fans safe.’
Fans are convinced that new music is on its way from Taylor, who is yet to release an album since Reputation in 2017.

Never better
It’s getting close to the start of a new generation and things seems even more volatile than usual. Giant mega corporations muscling in on gaming, gormless influencers being paid millions to act as second-hand car sellers, and a general sense that while games are getting bigger variety and innovation is actually shrinking.
That’s what a lot of my friends have been complaining about lately but I honestly don’t think it’s true. Yes, there are problems and worrying trends but if you look at the games themselves I don’t think things have ever been better. Big name games like God Of War have been genuine classics, sequels that you would’ve thought would never get made, like NieR:Automata have actually been major hits, Japanese games are great again and everything from Persona 5 to Devil May Cry 5 has not only been great but successful too.
Games as a service titles are, in general, actually pretty consumer-friendly and companies like Ubisoft have actually got very good at making them fair and balanced. After all these years Call Of Duty is still somehow good. The biggest games in the world – in Fortnite and Apex Legends – are not only free but actually pretty good. Nintendo has had their best generation since the SNES era and their best console ever. Sony’s first party games have never been better either and they’ve been great in their support of VR.
Microsoft has had a difficult time, granted, but they’re making all the right noises now and their support for backwards compatibility has been fantastic. There’s a lot to worry about, sure, but I think overall things have never been better. Kavinsky
Fear change
I am struggling to see what gap in the market it is that Google is trying to fill with its game plans. Obviously we don’t know exactly what they’re up to but last year’s Project Stream is a pretty big clue. If they were the only ones with streaming technology I’d understand but Microsoft has its own, that is likely at least as good, and Sony has also invested in the tech and has PS Now up and running already. So what is Google, or anyone else adding to this?
Having both Sony and Microsoft making consoles always seemed too much to me but adding even more with nearly identical hardware/services? I don’t see that point. No doubt they’ll have some exclusive games, but what would we be talking? Half a dozen at best?
And this is all ignoring that Google are a pretty scummy company and I’m sure whatever they’re offering will be filled with ads and YouTube link, while wading through your search history to try and trick you into spending money with them. I’m not excited about next week at all, I fear what their marketing muscle will do to the hobby I love. Harbinger
Old concerns
I’ve seen a lot of people getting worried that streaming is going to bring about the end of console gaming as we know it but I can’t help thinking that there were seemly concerns when smartphones first arrived. It was worrying for a couple of years and then people seemed to realise the limitations of phones and they’ve become largely irrelevant to traditional games nowadays.
At some point streaming is going to take over, that much is obvious, but only when broadband is a lot faster and more reliable than it is. And even then I am sure there will be physical consoles for those that want it and the best performance.
It makes me nervous having a company as big and uncaring as Google stick its nose into gaming but if it helps they have a long track record of very quickly giving up on things that don’t work out and I have trouble imagine a streaming console will be an instant hit. Although maybe if they pony up a few million Ninja will try and convince his fans that it’s worth it! Kipp
With so many companies not attending E3 this year I notice we haven’t heard anything yet from Bethesda either. It is so weird how quickly things can turn around for a company. Last June they were being congratulated for having the best conference at the show and then a few months later when Fallout 76 came out they’re suddenly a laughing stock.
I hope they can bounce back though because they’ve made some of my favourite games in the past and I’m eager to learn more about Doom Eternal, the Wolfenstein spin-offs, whatever Shinji Mikami is working on now, and, ideally, Starfield.
I know there’s only so much they can say about Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI until the next gen is announced but surely they could do a trailer similar to what Watch Dogs had? Where it was obviously not current gen but they never said exactly what it was? The hype of a brand new IP with a brand new engine would blow away the stink of Fallout 76 pretty well I think. Iante
In demand
Look at the numbers, Sony buying Take-Two just seems too big to me. Sure, they could afford it but it would be such a purchase they’d be skint for years and if anything went wrong, like GTA VI not turning out well or whatever, they’d be in a seriously dangerous position. Add in the dubious bread crumb trail of where the rumours come from and I’m going to guess that it’s not true, or at the very least it won’t happen.
My hope is that if all these other companies really are going to be making their own consoles, or whatever, that that leads to a major increase in the number of developers worldwide. Maybe indie developers that were previous only a few people could be beefed up to be larger and work on more complex games and we’d have more games out there that were a bit more imaginative.
If they can stay indie at the same time then the publishers would be coming to them, and be reliant on them, rather than the other way round. Probably a pipe dream I’m sure but if there’s going to be a premium on exclusive games then independent developers could find themselves in their most powerful position for years. Mortimer
Surviving publishers
I don’t want to go on about how weird it is that Valve don’t want to make games anymore because there’s not really anything you can add to the conversation other than, yes, it is really very weird. But very glad to see that Turtle Rock will be making another Left 4 Dead in all but name. I’m also glad to see they didn’t go under after the failure of Evolve, because to be honest I thought they had.
It always seems that developers are punished unfairly for the mistakes of publishers. It wasn’t Turtle Rock’s fault Evolve was stuffed full of terrible DLC and microtransactions. And it wasn’t BioWare’s fault the game was released months before it was finished. But because of the failure of the games companies with hundreds of employees were put at risk while nobody at a publisher got so much as a hand slap, as far as we know.
I’m also glad to know that Back 4 Blood will have a campaign, which I assume means single-player. That was something the original never really had and I suspect that was probably Valve’s influence. So maybe Turtle Rock getting away from them was for the best really. Arnie
PC weekend
GRID 2 is free on Humble Bundle for the next two days, at time of writing (Thursday evening). You have to subscribe to their newsletter and then they give you a code to download it on Steam. Once you have got the free game you can unsubscribe. Here’s the link.
Also, Two Point Hospital is free to play this weekend on Steam. Andrew J.
Over the years we’ve seen how Nintendo can make a success of almost every genre in existence, from real-time-strategy (Pikmin) to fighting game (Super Smash Bros.) to online shooter (Splatoon) and even turn-based strategy (Mario + Rabbids). Each one has been very different to the norm for that genre, in ways you couldn’t imagine anyone but Nintendo doing, so I can’t help wondering what they’d do if they talked battle royale.
I bet it’s something that’s occurred to them, especially after the success of Tetris 99. I also loved the reader ideas of having F-Zero 99, which I agree would probably work very well. But what I’m thinking of is an actual first or third person shooter but in the Nintendo style.
The big question would be whether it was a Splatoon spin-off or not, although I don’t know if the Switch can handle a large map, 100 people, and the scenery being constantly changed in colour and texture. Maybe they could do something separate where you have Nerf guns, or whatever, and then if you’re shot you can still move around the game world but helping others.
Battel royale games tend to bring out the selfishness in people but that’s very un-Nintendo so I imagine they’d try and reverse that somehow. Whatever they do I hope they give it a go, as they’ve turned out a classic almost every other time they’ve tried it. Ickle

RE: Dalton. The two Portal games are certainly amongst the funniest games I’ve played but I’d also add Battleblock Theater into the mix as well. It’s possibly the only game where I actually looked forward to the next cut scene and it had my brother and I laughing constantly. drlowdon
Has any developer/publisher ever put Wagon Wheels out during the refreshments? Which company is best at refreshments? r-s-w
GC: We don’t think we’ve ever been offered a Wagon Wheel. Usually, it really is just sandwiches.
This week’s Hot Topic
The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Ishi, who asks what is your favourite video game soundtrack of the current generation?
That means anything on the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, 3DS, or PS Vita – or any new PC game from early 2011 onwards. You can recommend a single song or a whole soundtrack, but we want to know what you think has been the best video game music for the modern formats?
What do you think of current trends in video game music and do you think this generation has been better or worse, in general, for video game music? And do you own any recent soundtracks separately, either as downloads or on CD or vinyl?
The small print New Inbox updates appear twice daily, every weekday morning and afternoon. Readers’ letters are used on merit and may be edited for length.
You can also submit your own 500 to 600-word 4Player viewer features at any time, which if used will be shown in the next available weekend slot.

She wants True to have a ‘happy relationship’ with both her parents, but new reports suggest Khloe is ‘disappointed’ Tristan ‘isn’t trying harder’ to be a part of their little girl’s life.
Sources told People: ‘Just in general, he isn’t spending much time with his daughter. It’s very upsetting to Khloé. To her, True is the most important person ever.
Khloe and Tristan are parents to 11-month-old True (Picture: Tristan Thompson Instagram)
‘It’s very difficult for her to understand how Tristan isn’t willing to make more of an effort to spend time with True.’
They added: ‘It saddens her that True doesn’t have a very close relationship with Tristan. Khloé has always done everything she can to encourage Tristan to spend time with his daughter.
‘She just doesn’t understand it, it’s very disappointing to her.’
The claims come as Khloe posted a picture of True sporting a top with the phrase ‘wish you were here’ written across it. Is that her way of trying to reach out to Tristan, maybe?
True turns one next month and Khloe has reportedly been trying to figure out a way to include Tristan in their daughter’s celebrations, despite her family not making it easy.
Khloe posted a picture of True wearing a top that said ‘wish you were here’ (Picture: Instagram/Khloe Kardashian)
They are furious with the Cleveland Cavaliers player, with sources saying: ‘[Khloe] can’t see how [Tristan] can be around her family at a party, though. Everyone is just too upset with him.’
Insiders told Hollywood Life: ‘Khloe Kardashian is still extremely hurt by Tristan’s behavior as a whole. Between having no interest in seeing True and his lack of respect towards her, she has zero intentions of reaching out to him on his birthday.
‘At this point, she’s not interested in a conversation. Khloe feels Tristan has shown her nothing but disrespect, and though she wishes him no ill will, she has no plans of reaching out.’
