Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom have reunited for the first time since quitting Kiss FM.
The radio DJs – who are set to be starting a new show on Radio 1 with Charlie Hedges soon – are back together again to host a Red Nose Day pre-show.
And we’re already so excited.
The pair will be presenting a special Comic Relief YouTube show on 15 March, between 6pm-7pm, ahead of the main show starting on BBC One.

And they’ll be joined by some pretty major names on the episode, including YouTubers Lewys Ball (Lookingforlewys) and Evie Clark (Lovevie).
Football Daily and Doug Armstrong will also be popping up.
As well as all that, there will be a string of hilarious sketches, including a Chicken Shop Date special, and appearances from the Friday Night Dinner and Plebs casts.
Speaking about the special, Rickie explained: ‘Red Nose Day is something that we three have grown up watching and we have proudly been working with Comic Relief for a number of years so it’s amazing to be presenting the pre-show.
‘We can’t wait to get stuck in on the night, have lots of fun and raise as much money as possible for a fantastic cause!’

The Comic Relief special marks the first time Rickie and Melvin have worked together since they left Kiss FM, for a stint on Radio 1 – along with Charlie Hedges, of course.
Ben Cooper, Controller, Radio 1 & 1Xtra said at the time: ‘Radio 1 needs to keep disrupting, keep changing, keep surprising our audiences and our industry.
‘Can’t wait to tune in to hear Rickie, Melvin and Charlie on Radio 1 with an exciting mix of late night humour and great new music.’

Stunt man Adam Behan had a ‘fantastic experience filming’ Game Of Thrones (Picture: Instagram/Adam Behan)
Game Of Thrones stunt man Adam Behan endured some tough night shoots while making season eight.
The cast have previously spoken about having a ‘miserable’ time filming epic battle scenes, and it doesn’t sound like it was any easier for the stunt crew either, who are used to doing what the rest of us can’t.
Adam told Metro.co.uk: ‘Adjusting the body clock to the nights I found to be quite difficult, I hadn’t done back to back nights like that before.’
Star Maisie Williams backed this up in a recent interview, revealing to Entertainment Weekly that the shoot was physically and mentally draining.
‘Nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is,’ she said.
‘It’s night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn’t stop.
‘You can’t get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there’s so much to do that nobody else can do… there are moments you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry.’

But Adam had a slightly better time of it as he added: ‘It was a fantastic experience!’
He also teased – as much as he could – what fans can look forward to in the final season.
‘It’s a whole load of awesome!’ he said. ‘They certainly won’t be disappointed.’
While stunt performers are recognised for their hard work at the Taurus Stunt Awards, he is hopeful that this will crossover to more mainstream ceremonies.
He told us: ‘Awards are given out to categories such as: Best Fight, Best Stunt Rigging, Best High Work, Best Work with a Vehicle, Best Specialty Stunt, Hardest Hit, and a few more.
‘It’s great to have our very own awards ceremony.

‘Over recent years more and more people can be heard saying that stunts should be included in the Oscars. Who knows, maybe that day will come.
‘What I do know is this, when people see stunt professionals working on a set in real life, they truly do appreciate is an art form. Without it, it would be impossible to create the worlds that writers and directors envision.’
Having worked on Game Of Thrones and Vikings, two of the biggest sword-slinging shows around on amazing locations, Adam understandably finds it hard to pick the coolest part of his job.
Adam was a stunt double for Harald and Heahmund on Vikings (Picture: Adam Behan)
I guess if I were to choose one it would have to be the opportunity I was given to act on a show. I love stunts but acting is another a real passion of mine.
‘Since graduating from Dublin’s Bow Street screen acting programme I’ve worked on a few independent Irish films and in 2017 found myself in dialogue scenes with [Vikings star] Alex Høgh Andersen – a great dude.
‘The same happened on Penny Dreadful too, in 2016 I was cast for scenes alongside Josh Hartnett and Timothy Dalton.
‘Dressed as a cowboy on horseback in the Spanish desert – boyhood dream come true!’
Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on Sky Atlantic, NOW TV and HBO.

The 28-year-old was filming for her MTV show while holidaying in Cape Town, South Africa with her friend Lauren and boyfriend Joshua Ritchie when the accident happened, leaving her covered in blood.
The reality star was seen jumping into the rooftop pool with her friends when she quickly emerged screaming in agony and frantically waving her hands in front of her face.
‘Charlotte’s nose has just bashed off my head,’ Lauren explained. ‘I just hope it’s not as bad as that crack sounded.’

In-between loud shrieks, Charlotte panicked: ‘I’m going to faint,’ and was carried onto solid ground by her boyfriend.
‘She’s hit her face hard,’ he told cameras. ‘This looks bad.’

Although the incident occurred back in November 2018, scenes only aired on Wednesday night.
At the time, Charlotte alerted her fans by sharing a picture on her Instagram of herself in the back of an ambulance with the caption: ‘It’s all fun and games until you break ya nose (sic).’
The Charlotte Show airs Wednesdays at 9pm on MTV.

Costumes are a television show essential. Without them, a show is rendered completely unbelievable, but with them they catapult our imaginations to a particular time and place, leaving behind a legacy in the process.
Whether it’s Villanelle’s pink dress in Killing Eve or Ugly Betty’s poncho, there’s usually always more than meets the eye and a whole world of tiny details that escape unnoticed.
Each week Back Into The Closet will deliver an exclusive look into the wardrobes of some of the world’s leading series to bring you all the costume secrets and niceties we might have missed.
Last week, we caught up with The Walking Dead costume designer, but this time around we bring to you all the gems from cult noughties show The L Word, courtesy of Cynthia Ann Summers.
Shane (Kate Moennig)
Shane’s waistcoat ensemble has become pretty iconic (Picture: Living TV)
Shane is by far the character that left every viewer hot under the collar. Her introduction in the pilot is probably one of the most standout moments from the entire series, as she strutted into our lives wearing an outrageous leather waistcoat so minuscule it was hardly worth throwing on. ‘It was basically a walk of shame,’ Cynthia told us. ‘She was looking a little hippy… It was just a moment we were introducing Kate and we just needed to show this sexy woman. If you go back to a young Mick Jagger and look at his hair and his posture and his sex appeal, Shane’s a dude like Mick. The trousers were definitely [Mick Jagger inspired]. The top was a nod to I don’t even know what. When the pilot was shot, I think we were playing it safe. The androgyny of her is just so beguiling and takes you out at your knees.
Shane’s first appearance in The L Word is nothing short of iconic (Picture: Showtime)
Shane was The L Word’s staple ‘butch,’ and Cynthia wanted to dress her in a way that would get viewers wanting to know more. ‘The community definitely got it, but if you’re not maybe you don’t and maybe you want to know. We were trying to create an allure in that moment with Shane and I guess it worked. I don’t know if anyone else could have pulled it off. It was the first introduction of Shane and it was Kate in that outfit and you just want to know who she is and follow her down the street.’
It wasn’t just Shane’s waistcoats that set her apart from the rest of the cast, oh no. The heartthrob usually paired her look together with ‘the perfect androgynous shoe,’ Converse – and for good reason too. ‘Converse are iconic and historically iconic,’ Cynthia told us. ‘Everybody wears them. I don’t know what the percentage is but 90 per cent of people have worn Converse in their life or knock offs. I felt like the Converse was the great equaliser because Shane is such a strong character and out of all out of the show, probably the most representative of a butch character. Even though it was very fashiony, I really wanted to ground her in that.
Shane went through a beanie hat phase which was a nod to LA fashion (Picture: Showtime)
‘She wore also boots and then she got into brogues later on, which women wear all the time now. I wanted something that was maybe visually accessible to anybody. I needed this character to be loved by any community – not just in the lesbian community – and I wanted this character to not be scary for heterosexual people at the time. I just wanted to make connections for the outside world. Of course we were making this show for the lesbian community first and foremost, but I also felt like it was a political moment to share. It was a platform to show and reach beyond and draw people in. If you can do it with a shoe, then why not? It was the perfect go to shoe for this character.’
Who can forget Shane’s skinny ties? (Picture: Showtime)
Shane also went through a phase of accessorising with skinny ties and beanie hat. Yep The L Word reeked of early noughties and we cannot get enough. ‘The beanie hat is such an iconic LA thing,’ Cynthia explained. ‘It was a nod to LA and to the iconic fashion statement that it is in that city. It’s also an androgynous piece of clothing that everybody wears. The skinny tie was a lot of reasons: at that moment it was fashionable in the early 2000s. I always try and bring a little bit of historic fashion to Shane to try and keep her not too on the nose and give her an edge. Kate is very straight up and down and she’s thin and a big tie on her made no sense, so I gave her a rockstar tie. We couldn’t get enough of those.’
Alice (Leisha Hailey)
Alice was the show’s only bisexual and often wore dresses (Picture: Showtime)
Being the only self-proclaimed bisexual character in The L Word, there was no item of clothing that was really on the blacklist. Cynthia revealed that she played into her sexuality by dressing Alice in colour, prints and dresses. ‘She could wear a two-piece dress and still be Audrey Hepburn. She could pull of anything and she (Leisha) was into it. Alice got really girly when she started dating Gabby. As a whole we gave the course: the dress, the heeled shoe, she had useful fun fashion. I think that was her constant throughout all six seasons.’
Alice accessorised her black ensemble with a Swarovski bow (Picture: Showtime)
Alice’s personality always shined through with every item of clothing she wore: it even trickling through at Dana’s funeral back in season three. ‘I just remember thinking it’s such a sad moment in the story and we’re politically trying to support the movement for breast cancer so I didn’t want to be too garish and I wanted to be respectful,’ Cynthia reflected. ‘But I needed to somehow show a little bit of whimsy in Alice’s costume because that’s her. We found this broach, a big Swarovski encrusted knotted bow, and I thought she’s wearing a black dress but she needs to be tasteful, so I put this giant broach by her neck as a little flourish to keep her in character.’
Alice carried handbags as the show progressed (Picture: Showtime)
And Alice would pretty much always have a handbag in tow to dispel the myth that women who like women don’t carry purses. ‘I really wanted to try and push the norm and I was like why not?’ said Cynthia. ‘So for Alice, the only the girly girl really within the series, I sourced several bags and that was the year of the pink Louis Vuitton bag and I came back with a little handbag and laid it all out and she was like, “But Cynthia, lesbians don’t carry purses,” and I’m like, “Why not?” And then from then on, Alice had handbags.’
Bette (Jennifer Beals)
Bette meant business in her staple power suit (Picture: Rex Features)
Bette was the no-nonsense, badass girl boss of the group. Introduced as an affluent and Yale educated, she had cash to splash and dressed in sexy power suits like she meant business 24/7 throughout the show’s six seasons. ‘I think the power suit was a no-brainer and I just needed to show that you could wear a power suit and still be fabulous and sexy, even if you’re all covered up and it’s not skin tight and grey,’ Cynthia enthused. ‘You can still add to it to make it sexy and you feel important in this suit. I also wanted to add a bit of mannishness to it.
Bette would often wear men’s shirts underneath her blazer (Picture: Showtime)
‘In season one Bette’s direction started off on a high note because she was a professional suited professional woman, but we didn’t have the budget to afford a designer suit so we made them all. Some of them were knock offs and some of them were really close to a designer suit. For her shirts, I took men’s vintage shirts with big collars and big cuffs and sized them down to fit Jennifer and that’s how we went through season one with her suits. In season two we went crazy, fortunately for me in season two Stella McCartney was doing some amazing suits with broad shoulders and an androgynous look to them and they fit Jennifer like a glove, they were great. After that, it was couture all the way.’
Back Into The Closet is a weekly series that delves into most iconic costumes to ever grace television, from shows past and present. Check back each Thursday for the latest wardrobe secrets.

Sharing the latest poster for the movie, in all its Thanos purple glory, Mark wrote: ‘So I wasn’t fired??? #AvengersEndgame’
It appears not, Brucey.
The man was well and truly still in the game, as his character Bruce Banner looked off wistfully into the distance, surrounded by his chums.
The likes of Thor, Tony Stark, Black Widow, War Machine, Ant Man, Captain America, a freshly Avenger-ed Captain Marvel and Okoye (where actor Danai Gurira definitely should have been featured by name) all surrounded him as we salute the next frontier.
It comes after, in October last year, the Russo Brothers kickstarted a whole thing when they ‘fired’ Mark from this here film.
It was nearly enough to unleash the Hulk. Maybe. We’re starting to wonder what indeed will summon the green within.
Ahead of the show airing, Mark tweeted: ‘@JimmyFallon, I trust that you will cut my spoiler slip on the show tonight. That was “off the record” homey. Please don’t get me in trouble with Marvel (Barry) again. DM me back. M.’
Alas, Jimmy responded: ‘Dude, it’s too late – already sent the final show to Burbank for air. Are you sure you’re gonna be in trouble? We could maybe bleep it out. What is “DM”?’
After seeing this convo, the Russo Brothers chimed in: ‘Mark, you’re fired.’
‘Guys…can we talk about this?’ he said, as he took to Twitter the day after.
At least it seems he kept his spot on the bill and will be front and centre for the final showdown in the third phase in the MCU.
Avengers: Endgame is in cinemas 25 April.

One Day At A Time has been cancelled by Netflix (Picture: Netflix)
Netflix have cancelled One Day At A Time because it failed to pull in enough viewers.
The sitcom, which only released its third season last month, depicts the everyday life of a Cuban-American family with each character finding their own journey, but will not be coming back for another installment.
Breaking the news in a statement on Twitter, Netflix announced: ‘We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season.
‘The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season.
One Day At A Time first aired back in 2017 (Picture: Netflix)
‘Thank you Norman Lear for bringing this series back to television. Thank you Gloria Calderon Kellett & Mike Royce for always making us laugh and never shying away from bravely and beautifully tackling tough subject matter in a meaningful way.
‘To Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rita Moreno: thank you for inviting us into your family. You filled this show with so much heart and warmth and love, it truly felt like home.
‘And to anyone who felt seen or represented — possibly for the first time — by ODAAT, please don’t take this as an indication your story is not important.
‘The outpouring of love for this show is a firm reminder to us that we must continue finding ways to tell these stories.’
One Day At A Time is available to stream on Netflix.

Could we be seeing Deepika Padukone in the Avengers? (Picture: Marvel / Getty)
Deepika Padukone has made a name for herself through undertaking some of the biggest roles in Bollywood – but could she be the next big superhero?
Well, the 33-year-old is definitely keen to join the Avengers gang – and so are we.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk following her iconic Madame Tussaud’s waxwork figure unveiling, she revealed she would love to tackle the role, hinting it would be ‘very interesting’.
Someone get Marvel on the phone, ASAP.
Deepika unveiled her waxwork at Madame Tussaud’s (Picture: Madame Tussaud’s)
‘Yeah, of course. Why not?,’ she told us. ‘I mean I’d say Indian origin. So whether it’s Marvel or whether it’s Avengers, or you know, any of these iconic characters that we’ve seen in cinema, I think it would be very interesting.
‘And I think the world is ready for it to see one of these superheroes, one that originates from India.
‘I believe it will happen soon. I know it will.’
But we might not be seeing Deepika getting her cape out in the very near future, as she’s heading on set of her next film in a couple of days.
And Thanos is definitely not paying her a visit.
Deepika would be up for a stint in The Avengers (Picture: Madame Tussaud’s)
‘I start filming on my next film, it’s called Chhapaak,’ she continued. ‘It’s a story inspired by the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. It’s not a biopic it is inspired by her life and it’s directed by Meghna Gulzar, and we start working on that next week.
‘We start filming next week.’
As well as all this, Deepika also made a surprise appearance in London for the unveiling of her waxwork figure at Madame Tussaud’s.
The Padmaavat actress was joined by her closest family members, including her parents and husband Ranveer Singh, for the big reveal, and admitted it was ‘overwhelming’.
Discussing the model, she said: ‘I mean, it’s something that you… I can’t even say something you dream of because, to be honest, as a little girl when I went there for the first time, I didn’t ever imagine that years later be going to unveil my own figure.
Ranveer Singh was by Deepika’s side as she unveiled her figure (Picture: Madame Tussaud’s)
‘And I think more than, to me, I think it was an extremely overwhelming experience for my family.
‘My parents went there for the very first time more than 35 years ago, when they first got married. And then they took us again many years ago, when my sister and I were little kids. You go, you wait in a line, you buy your tickets and you go inside, I’ll never forget that moment.
‘And I didn’t ever imagine that, you know, a day will come when my figure will, you know, make its way there. It’s very, very surreal, exciting.
‘I’m thrilled that it made it here and I’m thrilled to know that I’m the first Indian to make it to their A-List party section.’
Well, where else would it be?!
Deepika’s figure is available to see at Madame Tussauds London, along with a new interactive dance wall for guests to try out their best dance moves. Tickets available at www.madametussauds.com/London.

If Sony buy Rockstar then that is going to be a massive change to everything. GTA V is still in the top 10 a gazillion years after it was first released and god knows how much money GTA Online must be bringing in every day. The PlayStation 4 seems to have been a fairly easy choice for what console to buy this year but if GTA VI is a PlayStation 5 exclusive then Microsoft (and Google and whoever else aren’t Nintendo) might as well give up then and there.
Does that mean it’s true? Obviously not, and to be honest GC’s breakdown of the rumours made it seem more likely it was just idle gossip. But these are the sort of tactics I think we can expect to see if the next gen gets nasty with a lot more players. Take-Two must be a prime target too as they’re a weak company with one very strong asset.
Personally I’m against any kind of paid-for exclusive and that includes buying a whole company to get one. But it’s business, I realise, and the only thing that’s going to stop Sony is whether they think they can spare the cash or not. JoeP
Paying for influence
I always laugh at how some people seem to think that influencers are somehow more honest and ‘real’ than professional games journalists and yet again and again we see that not only are they paid to do and say everything but there’s a whole industry facilitating it. Imagine how many PR people and lawyers must’ve been involved in agreeing what Ninja would say and how long he’d play Apex Legends for!
I’m going to bet GC and the other journos weren’t paid a penny to do their previews and reviews and yet they’re the ones that are constantly being accused of being bribed or biased or whatever other nonsense.
I realise it’s mostly kids that watch Ninja and the others but it’s disturbing to think they look up to them when they’re really just salesman who will say and do anything for money. Gannet
GC: We did get some free sandwiches out of the hands-on event.
New battlefield
Does anyone else find it suspicious that we’re suddenly getting so many game announcements at this seemingly random part of the year? I have a feeling that the Google event next week is going to be massive and probably things like Back 4 Blood, Firestorm, Borderlands 3, and maybe even Cyberpunk 2077 are all being lined up for a reveal, and probably more as well.
We really don’t know anything about the next gen yet and I think we’re going to find that the battlefield is very different than we’re used too. It’s going to be a fight over who’s got the best streaming tech, who’s got the best exclusives, and who’s the cheapest. Graphical power and other gimmicks are, I think, going to be largely irrelevant now.
I agree with the reader who said that Microsoft would rue the day it took its foot off the pedal with first party exclusives, especially given how long it’s take Phil Spencer to right that ship (if he even has – we still haven’t seen any of the games yet). Sony though are in prime position, especially if they really do buy Rockstar. Wotan
I’ll join the reader in praise of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I still chuckle (even as I write now) at Mario when he pretended he was interested in Luigi’s conversation about the adventure he was submerged in and then within 20 seconds he’d be sound asleep. It was always the first bit where he’d yawn that set me off.
In fact, most of the game was generally excellent and the witty script was perfect from start to finish. Bizarrely, the final scenes where Goombella tells Mario (in an email if I remember) about how everyone is, and thanks him for his help, were actually quite a lovely touch which added a little poignancy to everything after all the madcap laughs that you’d shared along the way.
See how easy it is for games to add emotional depth with a simple bunch of classic Nintendo characters? Lord Monty Don Mont du Baton
Time extend
Been catching up on all things GC, and just read the interview with the Days Gone guy. I think the most telling part of the entire interview was that you were the one who mentioned you were being asked to wrap up and ended straight away! Usually when you’re having a good interview (practically every other time) the PR person practically has to drag you out the room! Sparky the Yak
PS: On an entirely separate note, looks like Wargroove has been patched to add checkpoints. More tempted by it now.
GC: To be fair they told us the interview was only 10 minutes before we started and we still went over a bit anyway.
Tactical decision
There’s been mention of XCOM alternatives and I’m currently torn between Phantom Doctrine (now reduced on PSN Store) and Mutant Year Zero….
I love the idea of a Cold War XCOM but I’m also intrigued by the more freeform nature of Mutant Year Zero.
I’ve just finished XCOM 2: War Of The Chosen (which I felt was too convoluted for its own good) so maybe a different genre would be the best option. I’m tempted with Vane, although I wonder if it’s too similar to Ico…
Thoughts from you and fellow readers? Brian
GC: Phantom Doctrine is quite good but Mutant Year Zero is more original and we enjoyed it more.
Animated adventures
A bit of a shame for that One Piece game to turn out so poorly. I’m not into One Piece, but still. Seeing the review reminded me about Adventure Time: Pirates Of The Enchiridion.
I saw the release trailer for it, got excited and then… it was released with very little fanfare. I didn’t notice either you or Eurogamer mention it beyond the release trailer. Did it even come out in the UK? If so, did you play it? Was it any good? Joseph Dowland
GC: It was released here but we never played it. Perhaps a reader has though.
If this story about Sony buying Take-Two (and let’s be honest that means Rockstar to most of us) is true then what an amazing purchase that would be from them. The Grand Theft Auto games seem to be so popular now that if they appeared on only one console the rest are doomed before they even try to get going (not counting Nintendo in this, who march to their own beat).
Microsoft must be poopin’ themselves because after the experience of the last generation why would most people choose an Xbox when the calibre of game offered by Sony is so high? A reader wrote the other day about what he believed was the zero chance of there ever being only one console – this might be about as close as it gets if it comes true.
I reckon Microsoft would have to buy EA to fight back, which I can’t see ever happening. Perhaps I’m overestimating the impact of GTA games but If Sony make this happen the next generation already seems won! Chris
Inbox also-rans
Yay! Left 4 Dead 3, or at least the closet to it that we’ll ever get. I will never understand why Valve stopped making games. Never mind Sonic in Mario games, tell me 15 years ago what Valve would become today and I’d never have believed it! Grant
We’re used to publishers not seeming to know when competitors’ games are out but EA doesn’t even seem to know about it’s own. Sad to think that Anthem and now probably Battlefield V Firestorm are both going to be ignored because of Apex Legends. Lincoln
This week’s Hot Topic
The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Ishi, who asks what is your favourite video game soundtrack of the current generation?
That means anything on the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, 3DS, or PS Vita – or any new PC game from early 2011 onwards. You can recommend a single song or a whole soundtrack, but we want to know what you think has been the best video game music for the modern formats?
What do you think of current trends in video game music and do you think this generation has been better or worse, in general, for video game music? And do you own any recent soundtracks separately, either as downloads or on CD or vinyl?
The small print New Inbox updates appear twice daily, every weekday morning and afternoon. Readers’ letters are used on merit and may be edited for length.
You can also submit your own 500 to 600-word 4Player viewer features at any time, which if used will be shown in the next available weekend slot.

Is Alex Marks turn as The Bachelor turning the tide of the tired show? (Picture: Channel 5)
Hi, I’m Mel and I’m incredibly cynical when it comes to the actual merits of shows like The Bachelor.
Like, pass me the bucket.
In the past I’ve written stories about how we’re obsessed with watching people fall in love on TV, and waxed lyrical on how it makes us remember there is some good in the world amid a whole bunch of BS. Because it’s entertainment in its purest form.
But when I discovered the powers that be were going to revamp the UK Bachelor in all its sometimes-not-feminist glory this year, I audibly groaned at the thought of how we’re regressing. Why on earth does 2019 need another Bachelor back in our lives when…there’s…just so many already?
Three women just weren’t feeling Alex (Picture: Charlie Sperring/Simon Jones)
The show has been around since the mid-90s and then it was a cute novelty and a laugh. But then it just became tired, predictable and a little offensive.
The UK did away with the Bachelor in 2012 after a second twirl at the rose ceremony (after the first round lasted from 2003-05). And I would have survived had it never returned.
How many times can we watch desperate people (not saying women, anyone who’s watched the Bachelorette will know the men get just as clingy when there’s a prize, I mean, wife at the end of it) compete, backstab and just go back a few steps in the evolutionary chain all in the quest for a mate?
However, then Alex Marks as the latest bachelor hit our screens earlier this month and, well, it kind of exceeded all expectations I had.
Mainly because the women – who are often treated as a passive passenger in a show so over-produced with one guy having his pick of the litter – have been rejecting the guy this time around. And also because my expectations were as low as how far some of them go to impress the person handing out the thorny blooms.
The US version just has something…missing. Like equality (Picture: ABC via Getty Images)
Hello 2019!
I may now be swayed to the B-side after years away. And it’s all because three (I repeat, three [3]) women threw Alex’s roses back in his face (not literally, I’m letting the drama get the better of me).
Gabriella, Natasha and Reanne have all showed they’re not about to sacrifice their very being just to be the last one standing and land a lucrative career as an Instagram influencer. They weren’t feeling the guy and they moved on. Producers sod off, they were not going to be talked to stay for the dramz.
I’m not lying when I say that perhaps the Bachelor UK is the most realistic of love shows out there because of this. Women in the US have walked sure – but three? Out of less than 20?
You see, my main gripe with these sorts of love shows now that I’m a totally mature ~adult~ is that there is just no way each and every female lined up is into the man in question. Again, anyone calling misandry on this, know that I also believe not all of the men on the various Bachelorettes are into the lass, either, but this is about the Bachelor so put a cork in it for now.
The Bachelor girls are turning on Alex Marks, which we haven’t seen yet (Picture: Channel 5)
We watch the US version, with its disgustingly rose-tinted glasses, tears, drunken catfights, sequins and more grass cutting than a John Deer commercial and wonder – does EVERY woman on that show want to marry the sleek guy and have his 2.5 babies yesterday, or is it just fine editing and some pushy showrunners?
I have strong feelings the Bachelor is just one big competition that isn’t about finding a mate. It’s about not being left behind, rejected.
Dating statistics and plain common sense will tell you that only a handful of those on the show are attracted to the person handing out roses. Like, legitimately attracted. Not because he’s the only guy there.
I feel they’re blinded by their want to ‘win’, because at the very core of it the Bachelor taps into our primal urge as homo sapiens to ‘compete’ for love. To not lose in the game of life.
It’s simply in our genes to puff out our chest and fight for something just because we don’t want anyone else to have it, and to believe that being alone is akin to death.
Cute, huh?
Because back when you needed a mate to be included in the village, to keep the bloodline going, to hunt with, to keep you warm, to fend off, I don’t know, prehistoric walruses or something, you may very well kick the bucket it if you were alone in your cave.
Luckily, today, that is not the case and by golly gosh, it seems the women of this year’s Bachelor are finally picking up on that.
Sorry to shatter that fourth wall, but the producers place each of those women in front of Alex because they will create flames and fire and, wait for it, ratings. Not because they see them making a future with the fella.
Okay, I may be taking my cynicism too far here.
Sure, in some cases it works out and they truly live happily ever after (looking at Catherine and Sean in the US, Trista and Ryan, too. Over in Australia they’ve also got many a success story that I’ve stuck in my pipe to smoke), but on the whole, it’s trivial and it’s TV and I’m sick of it.
I used to roll my eyes whenever someone would cut in with a ‘can I just steal him for a minute?’ then proceed to pour out the heart out to a complete stranger they’ve spent the collective time of 45 minutes with.
Then something happened.
A woman on the UK Bachelor rejected the current suitor Alex Marks.
Then another woman did the same. Then another.
My God – are the women on this show finally taking control and being an active member in their love life? Not letting producers or, ahem, evolution dictate a passive nature to come out on top with the last, final rose just because they can?
I want more of this. The UK has a chance to turn the Bachelor conversation and create a show that throws the ‘man in control’ schtick right back ’em. Because it takes two to tango, as they say.
With the finale of The Bachelor happening tonight, I’m thrilled to think that perhaps the last women standing, Charlotte, Charlotte and Alicia (yes, no mistake, that’s two Charlottes) are there because they truly want to be.
But, you know, I wouldn’t sneeze at another walk out.
The Bachelor finale airs 10pm tonight on Channel 5.

After we spent a good deal of time wondering about whether or not the giant tattoo Ben Affleck sported on his back was real or for a very interesting role, the actor has confirmed that yes, the tattoo is legit.
Last year while chilling on a beach in Hawaii the Batman actor unveiled the very colourful design that sported a phoenix weaving its way across his back.
And when we say that it took up his whole back, we’re not being dramatic – that thing is huge.
It was, dare we say, so garish it had many a punter wondering whether it was real – could it be? The man doesn’t sport any other crazy tattoos that are in your face, so this one had to be for a role, right?
This thing is real. And Ben really likes it (Picture: BACKGRID)
WRONG. Oh, boy, you are so wrong.
Chatting with his mate Ellen DeGeneres on her show this week, the actor admitted the thing is so real. Even though last year he said it was fake. Keeping up?
‘It’s a phoenix, rising from my ass,’ Ben said as he laughed along with the comedian and her audience.
However, he did want to add the imagery ‘represents something really important to me.’
He had a joke with the comedian (Picture: Michael Rozman/Warner Bros.)
His return as Batman was also tainted and earlier this month he admitted he just couldn’t get the script to work, so he walked away from the upcoming project.
So it’s nice he’s got this tattoo, that he admitted he really liked, to remind him of times gone by.
Even if his ex-wife thinks the thing is a little on the nose.
‘Am I the ashes in this scenario?’ Jen, the mother to Ben’s three children told Vanity Fair, apparently with a wink. ‘I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes.’
Of the tattoo being captured on the sly, Ben told Ellen: ‘We were two hours north of the city in some island in Hawaii, and we didn’t know the paparazzi was there.
‘So yeah, they got a picture of my tattoo. And sentiment ran, you know, against.’
He added: ‘It’s meaningful to me. I like it. It’s not something that I sort of kept private.
‘I love my tattoo. I’m very happy with it. Luckily, I’m the one who has it.’
Well, if you’re happy, Ben, then we’re happy.

Bane and Bruce Wayne will go head-to-head (Picture: Fox)
Brand new Gotham season five trailer teases a savage fight between Bruce Wayne and Bane and honestly, we’re so excited.
In recent episodes, Shane West’s Eduardo Dorrance was impaled during a tense showdown with James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) before being patched up by Hugo Strange.
And thanks to the surgery and wearing the iconic mask Eduardo has transformed into Bane – who’ll be showing no mercy, no escape and taking no prisoners when he returns.
‘Barbara Kean. Your time is up,’ he warns.
‘You cannot run from your sins, and you cannot run from me.’
Oh baby, this one is really gonna hurt!
Just two episodes stand in the way of Gotham finishing, with a 10-year time jump on the horizon which will see Batman and Joker come to life.
Earlier this week a spoiler picture of Batman’s supposed suit was ‘leaked’ on social media, getting viewers hyped that it’ll be the official costume that will be worn in the upcoming finale in a few weeks time.
Gotham season five airs on Fox in the US.

But it seems as though, as well as all that, there is also an attack on the superhero headquarters – and we’re not sure we’re ready for it.
While watching the teaser for precisely the 867,862,028th time. we noticed Ant-Man (aka Scott Lang, aka Paul Rudd) looking seriously ominous, while standing in an unusually empty HQ.
There’s an explosion behind Ant-Man – hinting Marvel HQ is going down (Picture: Marvel)
If you look a little closer, something that looks scarily like a huge fireball can be seen in the background.
It could just be a trick of the camera, but couple that with a shot of Ant-Man rushing to escape an explosion a few moments later signals that the Avengers office has been attacked.
A preview from an Endgame LEGO set also supports this theory, showing the HQ in the background while toy version of our favourite superheroes – and Thanos – battling in front.
While Joe and Anthony Russo previously suggested toys aren’t a credible source of narrative, it’s hard to ignore all the clues so far.
But we’ll have to wait until next month to find out for sure.
We’ll have to wait until next month to see what goes down (Picture: Marvel)
New acquaintances are made – with Thor taking an instant liking to Captain Marvel – but there is also some heartbreak ahead with scenes of funerals popping up in the teaser.
Seriously, we’ve only watched two minutes of this film and even that was a rollercoaster.
One person who was impressed by the whole thing was Mark Ruffalo, who celebrated the fact he was definitely not fired from the superhero crew.
After he basically gave away a few too many spoilers, Joe and Anthony felt he couldn’t be trusted anymore and ‘axed’ him on social media.
Avengers will be in cinemas next month (Picture: Marvel)
Sharing the new image, he simply wrote: ‘So I wasn’t fired??? #AvengersEndgame.’
Nope, you definitely weren’t sacked.
However, while fans were loving Bruce Banner’s inclusion, they were left more than a little annoyed that Danai Gurira’s name had been left off the official poster – despite her character being on it, and Okoye being one of the last heroes standing after Thanos’ snap.
You’d think that would earn her pride of place on the poster, alongside Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and co who were listed at the top…
But Danai’s name is tucked away in the small prints credit at the bottom – alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, who isn’t actually in the picture.
Avengers: Endgame is out on 25 April.

Cheat has some pretty striking locations – but where was it filmed? (Picture: ITV)
Cheat has kept us watching this week as it unfurls its tale of the relationship between a lecturer and student spun dangerously out of control.
Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly appears as Leah alongside Molly Windsor as Rose in the thriller, which follows the turn of events after the latter is accused of cheating on an essay.
It’s obviously got a very academic setting given its subject matter – but where was it actually filmed?
Here’s what you need to know…
Where was Cheat filmed?
While the university in Cheat is actually a fictional one, the show was in fact filmed in Cambridge, during the summer heatwave of 2018 (although it isn’t set there).
The college that we see onscreen was created using a number of different locations in the city, including college buildings and quads, but schools in Cambridge, including Gonville and Caius college, were used.
Cambridge was used for much of the action but also locations in Surrey and Hertfordshire were used as well as London (Picture: ITV)
Other scenes were shot out in Hertfordshire and West London.
As for the scenes which bookend some of the episodes, as Leah and Rose face each other through the glass screen of a prison visiting room, well those were done on a set specially created for the show in Surrey.
The prison scenes were shot in a stately home (Picture: ITV)
‘It was set in a place called Brams Hill, but it’s just set in a wonderful stately home where we filmed lots of different aspects of the show,’ explained director Louise Hooper.
One of the main houses in the drama was out in Wheathampstead (Picture: ITV)
She said of the settings: ‘What we wanted to do is have this hot, lovely summer. I like that idea of being slightly counterintuitive with the thriller, so it feels hot and hazy and there’s lovely lazy days – but actually the underbelly of it is completely dark and dangerous, because of all the horrible emotions that are bubbling there.’
When is Cheat on?
The series concludes on Thursday night on ITV at 9pm.

The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons has reflected on his audition for Sheldon Cooper (Picture: CBS)
The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons has compared his audition for Sheldon Cooper to tightrope walking.
As the season 11 finale gets closer and closer, the cast members have been busy crying on set as they prepare to say goodbye, oh and reminiscing about how they landed their role on the CBS sitcom.
Thinking back to his audition, Jim revealed: ‘I recall feeling like I was walking on a tightrope for that first audition.’
He added to TV Line: ‘The dialogue was so dense — to me, at least — and had lots of multisyllable words. I had never met Johnny, [but] as soon as we read through the scene, I thought he was the one.
The sitcom is coming to an end in just a few weeks (Picture: CBS)
‘I just felt it. Thankfully, everyone else agreed.’
Meanwhile, co-star Kaley Cuoco almost wasn’t cast as Penny on the show because someone else initially landed her part.
Originally, Penny was meant to be a completely different character called Katie, with Kaley explaining to the publication: ‘I didn’t get [the role of Katie] the first time around. I was too young, which I love saying because I don’t get to say that I’m too young anymore!
‘Then, a year later, I heard they were doing it again, and they brought me back in to read for Penny.’
The Big Bang Theory continues on CBS in the US.

However, he insists he’s not addicted to the Class A drug – despite admitting he once took it every day following the death of loved ones.
The 30-year old Geordie Shore lad said he started taking drugs when he landed the role on the MTV reality show, which saw him out every night with his castmates.
‘While the show was on air, I’d be doing club personal appearances every night and I started taking cocaine to cope,’ he said this week. ‘I used to be completely anti-drugs, anti-smoking and despise all of that. But I fell into that lifestyle.’

He added to The Sun that he was sometimes taking the drug ‘three times a day’ as he said: ‘To cope I’d have cocaine. It helps me focus and concentrate. I was using it every day when I was off the rails and doing PAs up and down the UK …I didn’t know how else to cope.’
Admitting he knew he needed to take drastic action, the star shipped himself off to rehab in 2017 where he spent two weeks getting clean.
However, not long after returning to the Newcastle party scene, where on the show he was out entertaining punters every night until the early hours, he admitted he started taking cocaine again more than before.
Then he was filmed snorting a suspicious substance and was promptly suspended by MTV bosses.
Admitting he ‘got to such a low, depressed point’, he managed to get out of it and send himself to Thailand where he spent two-and-a-half months in a cleansing program that involved cognitive behavioural therapy.
Scotty said while he ‘used to need cocaine to get by in the day’ he’s nearly kicked the habit.
‘I take it on a recreational basis very rarely but it’s not a necessity like it used to be,’ he continued. ‘I know my limits.’
It seems Scotty is pretty adept at multitasking as he actually proceeded to whip out his bank card, tap in his pin number and withdraw money, all the while continuing to decorate the wall of the Tesco as he relieved himself.

She’s also confident that the show will find a new network, writing: ‘ we might find #ODAAT another home. This isn’t over yet.’
Stars of One Day At A Time have been mourning the streaming giant’s decision too, with Todd Grinnell leading the way.
‘This is heartbreaking and I so wish it wasn’t true,’ he tweeted. ‘But I’m keeping the faith that @OneDayAtATime finds a new home. THANK YOU to all of you who’ve watched and supported. We see you and we love you. Don’t quit before the miracle happens.’

Mum and dad are just looking amazing this week (Picture: Getty Images Europe)
We are not worthy of George and Amal Clooney, as the pair continued to up the ante in the stylish stakes this week.
The couple left their one-year-old twins Alexander and Ella at home on Thursday as they took in the sights of the Postcode Lottery charity bash in Scotland.
They shared a laugh as they posed in front of a pretty flower wall at the Edinburgh event, with Amal wearing a dark blue, one-shoulder jumpsuit. The 41-year-old accessorised the ankle-length number with a black belt.

George, 57, was looking dapper himself in a smart pin-stripe suit, as he wrapped an arm around his human rights lawyer wife at McEwan Hall.
We can’t with these two – they’re just too perfect. Okay, no one is perfect. No, wait, these two are perfect – there, we said it.
They were joined by broadcaster Fiona Phillips, Human Rights and FGM activist Nice Nailantei Leng’ete and presenter Jeff Brazier.
They hung out with Prince Charles earlier in the week (Picture: PA)
Speaking of his attendance at the charity gala that celebrates work done by charities, supported by lottery’s players, George said in December: ‘We are thrilled to be attending the People’s Postcode Lottery Charity Gala in Edinburgh.
‘It is a perfect setting to highlight the urgent need to protect millions of the world’s most vulnerable people from human rights abuses.’
The pair were joined by a string of famous faces – including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Luke Evans, Tamsin Egerton, Josh Hartnett and Benedict Cumberbatch – as they celebrated the Prince’s Trust at a lavish soiree.
The lovebirds seemed to make a great impression on host Prince Charles, who was spotted laughing and joking along with the couple as he greeted them.
Oh, to be a fly on that wall…

Johnny Vegas has landed his very own Channel 4 documentary series (Picture: Getty)
Johnny Vegas has landed his very own Channel 4 documentary series and it’s all about camping sites.
The Benidorm comedian will be joined by his long-suffering assistant Bev as they source and renovate five vintage, single story buses and transform them into unique holiday homes on wheels on a site in Wales.
But with no previous experience of running a business or conducting renovations on this scale, the duo have a long battle ahead as they try to establish a must-stay glamping site in time for the summer season.
Yep, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces has nothing on this.
Johnny’s series will follow him and his assistant Bev doing up camper vans (Picture: Getty)
Speaking about the story behind the new series, Johnny revealed: ‘I bought a bus online. Not because it’s what showbiz folk do, but because my camping van got nicked and it had been my wee bit of creative space heaven.
‘Since then, a number of pub chats, misadventures, an art school virus to create beauty as and when you can, plus a deep desire to save these gorgeous machines from a scrap heap, I’m suddenly, finally trying to turn a “What if?” into a “Well why not?”
‘Borrowing cash, sorting out red tape via Bev and taking a risk on the fact that other folk will want to spend time in a place that feels special. But I get it.
‘As no doubt the bank manager might say, I’m not the most organised person, but I tend to invest in passion. (Ooh, get him!).’
The series is being produced by Plum Pictures, with Managing Director Will Daws saying: ‘Llas Vegas will surely become one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the country – if Johnny can raise the money, buy the buses, sort out planning permissions, keep the locals on side and stick to a schedule.
‘What could possibly go wrong.’
Llas Vegas will air on Channel 4 later this year.

Marvel has corrected this earlier poster (Picture: Getty)
It seems the team at Marvel has realised they made such a massive mistake on their latest Avengers poster.
After the purple, glossy wonder of the Endgame flick was released today – along with a banging new trailer – it didn’t take long for punters to go in with a fine tooth comb on the poster.
But one didn’t even need a fine tooth comb, or even a brush, to realise there was one big name missing from the poster.
While there are 13 actors on the poster, only 12 were deemed important enough to have their name written along with their face.
Okoye is on the poster alongside the other Avengers (Picture: Marvel)
Making their voices heard on social media, it seems the powers that be at Marvel listened and reworked the official poster to now bear her name up top.
Realising its mistake, it unveiled the corrected shot along with the caption: ‘She should have been up there all this time.
‘Check out the official Marvel Studios’ #AvengersEndgame poster. @DanaiGurira #WakandaForever’
While fans weren’t impressed she was left off in the first place, they applauded Marvel Studios for the quick correction.
As one thanked the studios for listening to its fans, another added on the power of the fandom: ‘Marvel fans are the most loyal in the world. I’m glad they spoke up, I’m glad they fixed it.’
‘Although it shouldn’t have happened in the first place, I’m glad you quickly worked to address this,’ another fan spoke up. ‘Danai is due her props. She makes an awesome Okoye and I can’t wait to see her and the rest of the Avengers next month. #AvengersEndgame.’
Earlier in the day we dropped our biscuit when we saw Tony Stark, Thor, Bruce Banner, Scott Lang, War Machine, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nebula, Captain America, Rocket, Thanos and Okoye are all featured on the badass picture.
However, at the top of the poster, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin’s names are all listed… but no room for Danai.
Danai’s name was in the small print credits at the bottom of the poster, but so is Gwyneth Paltrow’s – and Pepper Potts doesn’t feature on the poster.
Luckily justice has been achieved and balance restored to the universe.
Avengers: Endgame is in cinemas 25 April.

The film is set to focus on the incredible life of the nun, and will feature ‘top talent’ from around the world – including Bollywood and their Hollywood counterparts.
Pradeep Sharma, Nitin Manmohan, Girish Johar and Prachi Manmohan will be producing the movie, with Seema Upadhyay directing.
‘She is a global icon and we will ensure to leave no stone unturned to meet her international stature and pay our tribute to the noble soul,’ the producers said in a statement.
‘We hope we will do justice and will be able to spread the message for peace, love and humanity that Mother Teresa stood for.’
So far, it is not yet known who will be playing the part of the icon, or any other characters.
