Selma Blair is celebrating 20 years of Cruel Intentions, and seemed in high spirits on a trip to the doctor’s.

The 46-year-old flashed a smile at waiting photographers as she walked with the help of her cane in Santa Monica, California.

Wearing a beige teddy coat, skinny jeans and flats, the actress made her way to her car while joking with the paps, eventually being helped by a friend.

This outing comes as Blair marks the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough movie performance as Cecile in Cruel Intentions – with her kiss with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the drama pretty much sparking all our sexual awakenings.

Selma shared information about the 1999 film returning to cinemas for the milestone to Instagram and wrote: ‘Twenty years ago today this movie came out. It changed my life and made forever friends … despite the #cruelintentions.’

The actress is still close friends with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon – going on to star in Legally Blonde with the latter.

Since Cruel Intentions, Selma has starred in films like The Sweetest Thing, Hellboy and Mothers and Daughters, as well as shows including The People Vs OJ Simpson.

However, in recent weeks, she made headlines for showing us that living with a disability or chronic condition doesn’t mean you can’t still slay the red carpet.

All kinds of fabulous (Picture: OConnor-Arroyo/AFF-USA.com / MEGA)

Selma was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year, and made her first red carpet appearance since at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.

Her bold appearance saw her rock a multicoloured gown with a flowing cape – and walk with a monogrammed cane.

The mum-of-one was praised for her badass public appearance – including by her Cruel Intentions co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar – with Selma later writing on Instagram: ‘There are moments that define us. This is one of those indelibly watermarked in my heart.’

Speaking on Good Morning America about her diagnosis, Selma said: ‘I had tears. They weren’t tears of panic, they were tears of knowing that I now had to give in to a body that had loss of control and there was some relief in that.’

‘There were times when I couldn’t take it and I was really struggling with how I’m going to get by in life.

‘I dropped my son off at school a mile away and before I got home I’d have to pull over and take a nap … it was killing me. And so when I got the diagnosis, I cried with relief.’

History was made in February, as a contestant on popular game show The Chase made away with the biggest ever prize won by a solo player.

The Vixen, AKA Jenny Ryan, was defeated by Judith, a 58-year-old Charity Volunteer from Cambridgeshire.

So how much did Judith win, and what is the biggest ever prize won on the show?

How big was Judith’s history-making win on the Chase?

Judith, who had to face the quizzer all on her own after her teammates all failed to make it through to the final round, ended up giving 20 correct answers, to host Bradley Walsh’s amazement.

In the end, she got nine opportunities to push back, of which she took eight, and went home with a staggering £70,000.

The Vixen conceded defeat with pleasure, saying: ‘Wow, what a high class quizzer Judith is. Just killing me on the push backs.

‘Total class. I have never done this before, but I have to give you a standing ovation, Judith. That was incredible.’

What’s the biggest amount ever won on The Chase?

While Judith’s win as a solo contestant is very impressive, that’s not the biggest amount of money that’s ever been won on the show.

tweet about the biggest ever win on the chase

That honour went to the team of Diane, Luca, Tim and Gayna, who collectively went away with £100,000 after their defeat of Anne, AKA The Governess.

That meant the each member of the team went home with £25,000.

That’s better than most pub quiz prizes we know…

The Chase is broadcast weekdays on ITV at 5pm.

Derry Girls starred Keith Duffy’s son and dropped a massive clue we all missed

Keith Duffy’s son Jay made his first appearance in Derry Girls last night (Picture: Getty/Channel 4)

The Derry Girls were back wreaking havoc around Ireland on Tuesday night, and they have a new boy to fawn over.

Turns out that one of the newcomers, Harry, is following in his father’s footsteps when it comes to being a 90s heartthrob, seeing as the actor Jay, is the son of Boyzone star Keith Duffy.

On top of that, they also threw us a massive hint and despite this only die-hard fans noticed it.

(Kudos to those of you that did!)

The fit newcomer had all the Derry Girls talking (Picture: Channel 4)

The show has always been one to embrace its Irish roots, and in the newest episode the four Derry Girls in question were taken by their Catholic school to meet and start a buddying system with Protestant boys to heal the tensions between the two Christian sects.

Obviously, things go horribly awry pretty quickly, but floppy-haired Harry catches everyone’s attention, and Erin was fuming when Michelle swooped in there seeing as he was ‘the only good looking one’.

Later sneaking in to the boys’ dorm, the girls are quickly caught – and as they are escorted out the room, So Good by Boyzone starts playing for all to hear.

The show took a major throwback to the Boyzone days (Picture: Redferns)

Wearing a red jacket and oozing cool, it doesn’t take long for Michelle to make her move, only to find out he’s wearing a chastity bracelet.

Before this though, Jay Duffy had been already firmly making a name for himself, starting in 2012 when he appeared in a story arc as Declan Brady in Hollyoaks.

In 2017, he also starred in mini-series, Playground.

Ahead of his show debut, proud dad Keith (who later traded in life as a boybander for one of an actor on Coronation Street), cheered him on social media.

Though he couldn’t help but poke fun of him as well, and with one grab joked: ‘Nice curtains!’

….Wonder where that fashion sense came from?

Derry Girls continues Tuesdays at 9.15pm on Channel 4.

White Gold series two
White Gold is bringing the 80s back to Essex for a second series (Picture: BBC)

The double glazing salesmen are back in business as comedy White Gold returns for a second series on BBC Two.

The first series aired in the summer of 2017, with Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick leading the cast of the often outrageous comedy set in a double-glazing sales firm in Essex

The show also features a few faces familiar to anybody who’s ever watched The Inbetweeners.

Here’s what you need to know about White Gold season two.

What is White Gold about and what year is it set in?

The show centres around double-glazing firm Cachet Windows, and the staff who work there – led by suave senior salesman Vincent Swan (Westwick).

It’s set in the 1980s, offering plenty of opportunity for dodgy 80s-era fashion and some of the best-known songs of the era to bookend the scenes as the team – which also includes salesmen Fitzpatrick and Lavender (played by The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley and Joe Thomas) – get up to all manner of antics.

Why has the second series taken so long to get here?

Ed Westwick
Filming on the second series was suspended following the allegations against Ed Westwick which were later dropped (Picture: WireImage)

It’s been nearly two years since the first series aired. with the show’s future previously thrown into doubt after allegations of sexual assault were made in the US against its star Ed Westwick.

As a result filming on the second series, which had begun in November 2017, was suspended indefinitely.

However the allegations were dropped in July last year.

Filming on the series subsequently resumed late last year, with the show returning to screens for the first time since 2017.

Who is in the cast this series?

As well as the cast regulars, you might also recognise former Hollyoaks star Rachel Shenton playing Jo Scott, the new boss of Cachet Windows

The actress originally found fame as Mitzeee Minniver in Hollyoaks before going on to win an Oscar for her short film The Silent Child.

When is White Gold on?

The second series of the show kicks off on BBC Two on Wednesday night at 10pm.

John Robinson scooped £500,000 (Picture: ITV)

John Robinson shocked the nation when he pocketed half a million pounds on Monday’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – but two months after winning, he still hasn’t splashed the cash, and admits his first big purchase is probably going to be an engagement ring.

John, a 36-year-old teacher from Birmingham, had us gripped to our seats as he scooped an incredible £500,000 but he has now told Metro.co.uk that he kept the win quiet for over two months as the episode filmed over Christmas.

”It’s been two months and I deliberately didn’t tell anyone, just my nearest and dearest,’ he laughs.

‘Every kid I teach and know has been clapping me and cheering and making jokes – “can you lend me a tenner?” – but it’s been really good, I am blown away by the positivity,’ he says.

And as for that ring?

‘I lived a very boring existence the last few months because I haven’t told anyone, it would look suspicious turning up to work in a new Lamborghini, but over the next few months or years I will make the most of it,’ he says of the life-changing amount.

He lives with his long-term girlfriend and adds: ‘The big thing a lot of people ask about it is “no excuse not to pop the question and splash out on an expensive ring”, so if I had one big purchase in mind it would be that, but I certainly haven’t gone ring shopping yet!’

John almost took home the full million but when he found himself struggling on the final question regarding former prime ministers, he made the right call and walked home with £500,000.

Discussing his options with Jeremy Clarkson, John said on the show: ‘I think it’s probably between B and C but to be honest I’m not prepared to risk £436,000. I think it would take several years of teaching to take £500,000 home so I think I’m going to take the money, final answer. Considering I didn’t know the £2,000 question I think I’ve done okay.’

Yes, John used his first lifeline at the £2000 mark and he admits his biggest fear was making an embarrassment of himself on TV.

John used his first lifeline at the £2000 mark (Picture: ITV)

‘I wasn’t thinking I wanted lots of money, I just didn’t want to make an embarrassment of myself on TV knowing the kids would be watching,’ he says, ‘so as soon as it came up I thought I knew the answer but what the pressure of the lights and audience and cameras and Jeremy Clarkson does to you… being asked my name would have had me second guessing!’

John filled in his application one night instead of marking his school books and he reveals that the process of getting on the show was relatively simple.

‘I had a phone call from producers who liked my application, then a phone interview and I answered general knowledge and personal questions,’ he says, ‘and then after that a Skype audition which involved almost recreating being on the show.

‘The producer was the host and there was music and he asked me questions and gave me options, and I played as if it was real – talking through my thinking – and then a while after that I found out I was on the show.’

John never saw Jeremy after he walked away with £500,000 because it was the turn of the next contestant to sit in the hot seat and then another episode was filmed immediately after but he says he ‘was encouraging and wasn’t trying to pressure me to go for the next question’.

‘At one point I was drinking my water so much he gave me his glass, when he could see I needed to be refreshed,’ says John.

Since the show aired on Monday, he has, however, heard from people coming out of the woodwork who he hasn’t spoken to in five or ten years but he says the best messages have been from his old colleagues and former students: ‘I’ve had really nice emails from ex-students saying “I remember when you taught me and I am so proud” and it’s just been so positive.’

How James Safechuck met Michael Jackson, and his private life with his wife and kids

GRABS from HBO Documentary: Leaving Neverland ?We had a wedding ceremony in his bedroom?: Michael Jackson accuser ?reveals he married the singer when he was 10, and shows diamond and Rolex rings the King of Pop gave him after he raped the boy? Michael Jackson married one of the boys he is accused of raping in a ceremony held in the King of Pop?s bedroom, according to the new HBO documentary Leaving Neverland. James Safechuck says that he was just 10 when he and Jackson, then 30, held a mock ceremony, while also showing off some of the pricey jewelry he received from the singer. ?I was really into jewelry at that time and he would reward me with jewelry for doing sexual acts to him,? explains Safechuck. ?He would say that I need to sell him some so I could earn the gift.? Leaving Neverland premieres Sunday at 9pm on HBO. At this time, Safechuck had known Jackson for a year after meeting in 1987 on the set of a Pepsi commercial. The abuse had begun a few months later, and as Safechuck explains he was still drawn to the singer because of the mental and emotional manipulation. He also admits that he still feels a great sense of guilt for putting Jackson. ?We were just like fully in love at that time. When I wasn?t with him I was thinking of him,? said Safechuck. ?It just feels like the greatest thing when he calls. He?d come over and we?d spend the day shopping or hang out, or he?d come over and he?d spend the night. Or we?d go to the Hideout in Westwood and spend a few nights there.? The Hideout was Jackson?s apartment in Los Angeles where he would stay when recording or doing press, since the Neverland Ranch he had purchased one year prior was a three-hour drive from the city. Safechuck says that Jackson then took things one step further with a bizarre request. ?So we were like this married couple. I say married because we had this mock wedding ceremony,? claims Safechuck. ?We did this in his bedroom and we filled out some vows like we would be bonded forever. It felt good. And the ring is nice. It has a row of diamonds. The wedding ring.? Safechuck then holds up the ring, with his fingers shaking, and shows how it barely fits on his adult finger. ?It?s hard to go back to that moment,? sauced Safechuck. ?You know, I like jewelry and I liked it as a kid so I think something that I liked was used against me. It causes discomfort. It is still hard for me not to name myself.? Safechuck then continues to pull out expensive pieces from a small jewelry box, his fingers shaking more and more. ?This piece of jewelry is like a roller ring with a diamond in the middle. My hands are shaking just thinking about them,? says Safechuck. ?We would go buy them at jewelry stores and we would pretend they were for someone else. Like for a female but he would pretend like my small hand would fit for whatever female we were buying it for.? He then adds: ?Yeah I don?t like looking at the jewelry.?
James Safechuck has stayed out of the limelight after his alleged ordeal (Picture: HBO)

Tonight sees the UK release of part one of Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland.

In it, two men allege that they were abused by Jackson when they were children, going into detail about their proximity to the singer.

Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who were both under 10 when they first met MJ, speak about what happened to them, and how they’ve managed to come to terms with it all these years on.

It’s been controversial to say the least, with Jackson’s nephew claiming that Wade Robson is ‘100% lying’, although he can’t confirm about Safechuck as he has never met him.

James Safechuck is something of a reclusive character, and hasn’t gone public with his claims before now. Just who is he though, and why did he decide to step out of the spotlight?

?He was loving and caring. And he also sexually abused me?: Michael Jackson accusers Wade Robson and James Safechuck reveal how they went from meeting the King of Pop to being raped at his Neverland hideaway and in hotel rooms around the world

Safechuck first met Michael when he was chosen to be in a Pepsi advert with him in 1987. James was just eight at the time.

The friendship grew quickly, with James’ family having Michael over for dinner and allowing him to take James on his Bad tour the following year. ‘It was one giant seduction,’ says Safechuck, of the way Michael befriended his whole family.

According to Leaving Neverland, this is when the molestation took place, as well as other incidents such as a mock wedding ceremony between the pair.

By 1993, Jordan Chandler’s parents had accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse against their son; allegations to which Safechuck testified against in court.

In terms of his relationship to Michael, James says that it began to tail off around his teens, although he was bought a car for his 16th birthday by the singer.

The second time he was asked to testify once again – in 2005 – he refused, which he says angered Michael and severed any ties that were left.

His career included some work in film and TV, and he later became addicted to cocaine, marijuana, and opioid painkillers, before getting a day job in tech – a field in which he still works.

In 2010, Safechuck and his wife had a son. It was then that he decided to come forward. He said in the documentary: ‘Michael made you feel like you did it, that it was all your idea. Then you look at your own kid, and for the first time you really realise, ‘what? That just makes no sense.”

He added his own testimony to a 2014 lawsuit filed by Wade Robson, and Leaving Neverland was made after that.

James is still with his wife and now has two children.

Mortal Kombat 11 story trailer confirms return of Cassie Cage, Erron Black, and more

Mortal Kombat 11 - there's still more to be unveiled
Mortal Kombat 11 is back with a new story trailer (Picture: NetherRealm)

NetherRealm has released a story trailer for Mortal Kombat 11, confirming a bunch of characters and a perplexing multi-dimensional narrative.

The developer has slowly been confirming playable characters in the run up to the game’s release next month, although a recent leak may have punctured some of the marketing excitement.

The latest trailer officially announces a number of new characters which fall in line with the leak, including Cassie Cage, Erron Black, Jacqui Briggs, and Kotal Kahn.

Mortal Kombat 11’s story mode also appears to be as needlessly complicated as ever, with new bad guy and the ‘keeper of time’ Kronika hoping to rewrite history after Raiden’s crackdown against evil in Earthrealm.

Keen to restore balance for those who ‘disdain the current course of history’, Kronika has opened dimensions from the past – meaning a number of past selves now encounter their present selves, including a funky shades-wearing Johnny Cage.

It’s essentially an excuse for the same characters to fight each other, but we’ll take it if it means more throwback costumes from Mortal Kombat’s origins.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases on 23 April on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Who is Zac Efron’s new ‘girlfriend’ Sarah Bro and what do we know about the Olympian?

Are these two an item? (Picture: REX/@sarahwbro via instagram)

The internet has been aflame with speculation that certifiable hunk Zac Efron is now off the market after landing a rumoured new girlfriend.

After being spotted having a jolly good time together at a UFC fight, signs seem to be pointing to a romantic coupling between Efron and Olympic athlete Sarah Bro.

So who is Sarah Bro, what’s her sport, and what’s the evidence that her and Zac are an item?

Who is Olympic athlete Sarah Bro?

Bro, 23, is a Danish swimmer who competed in the women’s 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, where her team placed 12th.

Sarah is originally from Copenhagen, and now lives in Los Angeles, California, and regularly posts pics on Instagram that show how much she likes the area.

Not a lot is known about Bro’s romantic past, but Efron’s love life has been well documented since his rise to fame in a little ol’ Disney film called High School Musical.

Instagram Photo

Efron, 31, dated his High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens for a disputed number of years, with some sources saying they started in 2005, and other saying it was two years later, but officially called things off in 2010.

From 2014 until 2016, Zac dated entrepreneur and model Sami Miró, and in 2018, it was said that Efron was reportedly ‘seeing’ his Baywatch co-star Alexandra Daddario, but the two kept pretty tight lipped about it.

What, you thought this caption needed to say something profound? (Picture: Christopher Polk/Getty Images for MTV)

While no relationship between Bro and Efron has been officially confirmed, they have been seen together at a UFC fight in Las Vegas.

But that isn’t the only thing that got fans speculating that the two are romantically involved.

Instagram Photo

The two also attended the same hockey game this week, which can be confirmed by looking at their social media accounts.

Both of those bright young things posted pics confirming their presence at the match on Instagram.

Bro posted a pic of herself in the locker room in a personalised jersey.

Instagram Photo

Zac then only went and posted a selfie from the same game a day later.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

At the very least, it seems like the two have a similar taste in sporting events – if they aren’t an item yet, maybe they should be!

Metro.co.uk contacted reps for comment.

Ed Westwick is back on UK television tonight for the second series of White Gold on BBC 2.

In the show, he plays a dodgy double glazing salesman named Vincent Swan, set in the mid 80s in Essex.

The show marks Westwick’s first appearance since a number of rape cases were dropped against him in the US, and White Gold nearly never returned at all.

It was put on hiatus until charges were dropped, with filming resuming at the end of last year.

But who is Ed Westwick, and what were the claims in the first place?

Ed Westwick is 31, and was born on 27 June 1987.

He was raised in Hertfordshire and got his big break when he played the character of Chuck Bass in the CW’s teen drama series Gossip Girl.

From 2007 to 2012 the actor was a prominent face on the American TV circuit acting alongside co-stars Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen and Leighton Meester.

Since then he appeared in films such as the sequel of Donnie Darko, Romeo and Juliet, Freaks of Nature and Billionaire Ransom.

At the end of 2018, Ed split with his long-term girlfriend, model Jessica Serfaty. The pair were said to still be in love, but ‘taking time apart to work on themselves and their careers.’

They were together for one year, and she stuck by him throughout the various sexual assault allegations made against him.

Allegations against him

In November 2017, the actress Kristina Cohen accused Ed Westwick of raping her three years earlier.

She claimed that she had stayed at his house, and was woken to him assaulting her.

The allegations prompted a second claim from Aurélie Wynn, a former actress, who alleged that a ‘similar’ ordeal happened to her when she visited Westwick’s home with her boyfriend at the time, Mark Salling, in 2014.

Rachel Eck, an LA-based producer, was then the third person to claim the actor had assaulted her that year, on the night before the Oscars.

The fourth allegation was made in March 2018, by a woman named Haley Freeman.

Ed Westwick vehemently denied the allegations.

The Los Angeles District Attorney said in July 2018 that they wouldnot be prosecuting the star after taking on two cases and dropping a third.

In the two cases which the office decided to pursue, TMZ reported that legal documents showed that potential witnesses ‘could not provide sufficient evidence to get a conviction’.

The website claimed that a third case was dropped earlier that year after police were unable to contact the alleged victim as part of their follow-up investigations.

Days Gone – it’ll probably be fine

Zombie hordes

I’m still looking forward to Days Gone. I need a new zombie game since Dead Rising has become a poor imitation of itself. I want to guide heavily armed but idiotic survivors towards safety and not have them teleport away. I also don’t really play zombie games for a story, so I don’t care about it being clichéd. Every story has been told after all.

The one thing I could take issue with is the stealth. I’d rather be blasting full auto into a swarm, like one of the gameplay videos from a while back. I hope it can cater for both play styles. I await the review to see how I will sway.
bobwallett

Curse of the freakers

Well, Days Gone certainly looks… fine. Nothing offensively bad, nothing spectacularly good, with a little bit of potential in the horde mechanic. I must say it does look like a Daryl Dixon simulator (from The Walking Dead) with its biker and his brother story, and work starting on it six years ago matches up with the TV show going supernova and Norman Reedus becoming an Internet favourite.

This makes me worry for Bend Studio. Not only has The Walking Dead bankrupted two companies lately, the TV show’s popularity has waned massively and the Daryl/Reedus/gamer fans are probably holding out for Death Stranding. Does the curse still count if it’s not officially licensed?
The Light Knight

GC: Those are some very good points.

Zombie realism

Somewhere in the midst of that interview with the director of Days Gone I had a funny turn and all of a sudden thought it was 1998 and I was reading Digitizer. Seriously, at one point I had to reflect on whether this was your rather brilliant attempt at satire. Clearly this guy hasn’t seen any films by Ken Loach or understands the first thing about social realism. Grounded indeed! From what I’m gathering, the storyline, setting and characterisations would’ve been cliched 20 years ago. Now they’re downright reactionary.

Your interviews are always great but usually with people you appear to strike a rapport with. Lesser interviewers would’ve given this guy an easy time. The fact you didn’t is commendable. It’s this sort of thing, journalism with intelligence and ethical integrity, that sets you apart.
Ciara

GC: We were more worried about his grasp on science if he thought zombies could be real. But thanks.

Feel good story

Online gaming can be viewed negatively sometimes, depending on the community you experience, whether you witness verbal abuse or bullying or elitism. I’ve experienced some myself, so I wanted to share an article that I personally found really uplifting and positive.

There are some great people and online communities out there, so don’t let the few bad people put you off. And it’s always good to remember that there is an actual person on the other end and your own words and actions can affect others. Happy gaming everyone.
SJC

Very limited

In regard to new the all-digital Xbox One S limited edition Fortnite console, can GC tell me why the rest of the world seems to get much fewer of these machines than Japan? Japan is always seeing limited edition PlayStation 4s and such, usually to coincide with anniversaries or new releases.

Kingdom Hearts III, Monster Hunter: World, Dragon Quest XI, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Fate:Extella, Metal Gear Solid V; you name it, all saw appropriately adorned consoles. Europe, and as far as I know North America, barely sees any. Or are they just so limited I missed them?
Owen Pile (NongWen PSN ID)

GC: We do get them, they just seem to be more of a thing in Japan – often with games that wouldn’t justify the effort in the West. Our favourite is still the Minecraft Xbox One S though.

Feature ideas

Thank you so much for publishing my article the weekend as a Reader’s Feature. I think your journalism is great, the way you handle interviews, reviews, and disgruntled fanboys is quite admirable and to be considered as one of your articles for a Reader’s Feature is quite humbling.

I made the rookie mistake of reading the comments underneath, a lot of people seemed confused what my point was. In truth it was only meant to be an Inbox letter. I wasn’t necessarily pushing for a new handheld console from Nintendo, although I wouldn’t turn my nose up at one.

I was merely writing a letter and started throwing some ideas up in the air (which happens a lot with me) about where this whole gaming vehicle could go.

Anyway that whole story with Microsoft releasing a discless Xbox as early as May? Could that be them dipping their toe in the water for things to come in the next generation?

Thanks again!
freeway77

GC: Oh, well it was extremely long for an Inbox letter, so we assumed it was meant as a feature. As for Microsoft, we’d be very surprised if digital-only wasn’t also an option for their new consoles.

Bloody spoilers

Been watching The Science of Mortal Kombat on YouTube, where they test whether what happens in Mortal Kombat could feasibility happen in real life, from piercing gel bodies with blood spikes to decapitating gel heads with an actual ice axe!

It’s just a bit of daft fun… (plus science), with fatality spoilers, but ya nar they’ve been spoiled plenty already!

Another convert

Having never played a turn-based strategy game before I never really knew what to expect as I always thought they looked a bit boring. Then I played XCOM 2 and I am happy to say I was blown away with how good it is. Exciting and tense in a way that no action game has managed. It is now my favourite game this gen.

I am currently playing Fire Emblem Awakening, having never played the franchise before, and I am absolutely loving it. What other strategy games would GC or readers recommend (I have both Invisible, Inc. and Into The Breach).
ROB
PS: Regarding wasmir and Phil and the comments section guys I wouldn’t bother with anything they say as they are a bunch of grumpy old men. Ignore their nonsense and enjoy GC regardless.

GC: We’re not sure what formats you have access to but we would say Advance Wars, although it’s been so long since there’s been a new one you might be better off with Wargroove. Or there’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom if you have a Switch and Mutant Year Zero was pretty good last year.

Inbox also-rans

Just out of curiosity did Square Enix send you a review copy of Left Alive? It doesn’t seem to be reviewing too well is why I ask.
mitchell

GC: We were, but not before release. But there’s currently only one review on Metacritic?

I can’t believe that Sonic the Hedgehog movie design isn’t a joke. I doubt Sega were even that much involved with it, and they still get dunked on from a high height by Nintendo and Pokémon!
Bosley

This week’s Hot Topic

The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Edone, who challenges you to name the worst part of your favourite game.

Nothing’s perfect, so what is it you don’t like about the game or games you otherwise love? Is it a trivial detail or something that actually impacts your enjoyment of the game? How would you fix the problem and what effect would that have on how you – and the wider world – think of the game?

How tolerant are you in general about games with obvious flaws and are there some things which you regularly give a pass to? Or are there some flaws which instantly put you off a game, no matter what else it gets right?

Taylor Swift might be an international superstar who has the world’s cuisine available on tap, but she keeps coming back to Jamie Oliver’s chicken fajitas.

As Swift approaches her 30th birthday in December, she’s made a list of all the things she’s learned so far from life on Elle – encompassing social media habits, perceptions of her body and secrets to looking after your skin.

More importantly, she’s revealed the three key recipes which have sustained her existence throughout the years, and there’s some surprising additions.

‘I’ve always cooked a LOT, but I found three recipes I know I’ll be making at dinner parties for life,’ Swift said.

‘Ina Garten’s Real Meatballs and Spaghetti (I just use packaged bread crumbs and only ground beef for meat), Nigella Lawson’s Mughlai Chicken, and Jamie Oliver’s Chicken Fajitas with Molé Sauce.

‘Getting a garlic crusher is a whole game changer. I also learned how to immediately calculate Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head.’

A walking temperature converter and a pop banger generator? Swift’s got it all.

Elsewhere, Swift also revealed how she was ‘completely terrified’ to go on tour in the wake of the Manchester bombing at Ariana Grande’s concert in May 2017.

‘After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting, I was completely terrified to go on tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe over seven months,’ Swift said.

‘There was a tremendous amount of planning, expense, and effort put into keeping my fans safe.’

Taylor Swift recently left fans wondering if a new album is on the horizon, after posting a series of cryptic Instagram pictures.

Manchester’s National Football Museum has removed a Michael Jackson statue on the eve of the Leaving Neverland documentary airing.

The two-part film documents sexual abuse allegations made against the singer by Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who claim Jackson assaulted them when they were children.

The statue was originally erected by Fulham FC chairman Mohammed Al Fayed back in 2011 to commemorate the icon’s death two years prior.

Following the statue’s removal, the National Football Museum released a statement that said the statue’s removal from their collection was planned before the backlash of Leaving Neverland.

‘Plans have been underway for a number of months to remove the Michael Jackson statue from display as part of our ongoing plans to better represent the stories we want to tell about football,’ they wrote.

‘As a result of this, the statue has now been removed.’

The hard-hitting and long-anticipated documentary airs on Channel 4 tonight (6 March) after premiering at Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of this year.

In the film, Robson and Safechuck make their claims that Jackson abused them when they were children.

The claims are so graphic that those who have seen it so far say they’ve been left ‘traumatized’ by what they saw.

The Jackson family have denied all allegations made against the Thriller star.

Mark Lester, Oliver actor and former friend to the star, also slammed the film and said that he ‘didn’t know what it was trying to achieve’.

The creation of the two-part series has also caused a massive backlash among fans of the long-praised singer, as radio stations have also removed him from their playlists.

Leaving Neverland starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.

PewDiePie says T-Series are ?getting desperate? as channel?s creator makes YouTube subscriber plea
The war between PewDiePie and T-Series rages on (Picture: YouTube/PA)

The YouTube subscriber battle between PewDiePie and T-Series has become closer than ever in recent days, and now the latter is making a big push for the crown.

The Indian music record label and film production company is under 40,000 subscribers behind PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, at time of writing, with hopes of dethroning the long-time king of YouTube from his perch.

T-Series is now engaging in aggressive subscriber hyperdrive, with company chairman and managing director Bhushan Kumar posting a video to encourage citizens to subscribe to their channel for the nation of India.

In the video, Kumar says: ‘There is an Indian YouTube channel on the brink of becoming the world’s number one. It’s taken us a lot of effort to come this far.

‘To take my father’s dream forward I started this channel. Today it belongs to you. It belongs to the entire nation. This is a historic movement for all of us so let’s come together and subscribe to T-Series YouTube channel and make India proud.’

Noticing his rival’s play, PewDiePie called out their tactics on Twitter, writing: ‘They are getting desperate.’

PewDiePie has managed to widen the gap over the past week, with a mere 3,000 subs previously separating the two channels last Saturday (2 March).

The battle between the two channels has been raging since November last year, inspiring online campaigns which have spilled over into the real world, most recently at the Super Bowl.

PewDiePie has conducted a number of livestreams in recent weeks to combat T-Series from taking the top spot, and has also received help from JackSepticEye, Mr Beast and Elon Musk.

PewDiePie previously told Metro.co.uk how he was ‘surprised no one stepped up sooner’, and how he finds the whole battle and competitive spirit ‘hilarious’.

Roxanne Pallett finally breaks silence after CBB punchgate to pledge support to Michael Jackson

Roxanne Pallett has disappeared from the internet for the past eight months – but broke her silence today to voice her support for Michael Jackson ahead of Leaving Neverland.

The ex-Emmerdale actress hasn’t uploaded anything since August last year after falsely claiming that Ryan Thomas had punched her during a stint on Celebrity Big Brother.

Roxanne’s claims were debunked after footage of the incident in question was shown, and drew 27,000 complaints to Ofcom over the scenes.

She later walked from the house of her own will and quickly disappeared from the public eye.

However, ahead of Michael Jackson Leaving Neverland heading onto TV tonight, Roxanne chose now to make her return to the platform, posting a photo of the Thriller singer in concert.

Roxanne hasn’t uploaded anything in eight months (Picture: Instagram)

Underneath, she pulled a line from Jackson’s single Tabloid Junkie that read: ‘Just because you read it in a magazine or see it on the TV screen, don’t make it factual…’

She added the hashtag #MJInnocent to further cement her point.

Leaving Neverland documents a series of sexual assault allegations made against Jackson, following two men who claim they were abused by the singer when they were children.

In the film, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, make their claims which are so graphic that those who have seen it so far say they’ve been left ‘traumatized’.

It also became the most complained about moment of television in 2018 as a whole.

In February, Roxanne spoke out about the incident for the first time, telling The Sun that the trauma of the incident caused her hair to fall out and left her feeling suicidal.

Speaking to Jeremy Vine immediately after exiting Celebrity Big Brother, she apologised for the overreaction but maintained it felt real at the time.

She said: ‘When I look back on that footage, as soon as I left the house… I got it wrong. Everything in that house becomes heightened, a look, an action, a comment.

‘All I can say is in the moment, it felt worse than it was.’

‘I massively apologise to not only Ryan, but his friends, his family, his fans, every single person who watched that and who justifiably saw an overreaction to what wasn’t a malicious act.

‘Because I am sensitive, I mistook what was playful,’ she continued.

‘There was no malicious intention behind that, and that is what I apologise for because I shouldn’t have questioned his motivation. I got it wrong.’

Ant McPartlin has his beloved dog Hurley back and was seen taking him for a stroll with girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett and their two new puppies.

The Saturday Night Takeaway presenter and Anne-Marie had one of the tiny pups under an arm each while Hurley was on his best behaviour on a leash as they wandered through south west London.

The chocolate Labrador is currently being fought over by Ant and his ex-wife Lisa Armstrong following their split last year.

Since then, the fight has been on over who gets custody of their doted-upon pet, with Lisa being seen smothering him with affection, and Ant taking any opportunity he can to play with him.

It’s pretty clear to see that Ant and Anne-Marie have also been more loved up than ever, especially after adopting a pair of Maltipoo puppies together, naming them Milo and Bumble,

The couple have been seen strolling through parks after going public with their romance, shortly after Ant announced his split with Lisa.

Anne-Marie had previously worked with Ant has his personal assistant, and has been described as the BGT presenter’s ‘rock’ as he went into rehab for alcohol abuse.

He later announced he would be taking the rest of the year away from the spotlight in order to focus on his recovery.

At the beginning of this year, he went back to work on Britain’s Got Talent alongside long-time co-star Declan Donnelly.

However, the ease in which he returned to his job has come under fire by Kerry Katona, who said it displayed the double standards in the TV industry between men and women.

‘He was driving a car pissed up and could have killed a child and he had his issues with drink and drugs. I think that says a lot about society,’ she told The Mirror.

Comparing his actions to her own experience, she admits that she still felt she was ‘crawling up the ladder of society after an appearance on This Morning in 2008 saw her slurring her words.

‘He’s done an amazing job, but it was like when I was on This Morning 10 years ago slurring my words due to bipolar medication, I’m still today crawling my way back up that ladder again.

Liam Payne clashes with Piers Morgan as he defends Kylie Jenner: ‘You talk sh*t about everyone’

Liam Payne has come to Kylie Jenner’s defense after Piers Morgan claimed she was only rich and famous because Kim Kardashian made a sex tape.

Jenner, 21, was recently touted as the youngest self-made billionaire ever, sparking fury with the Good Morning Britain host, who took issue with the ‘self-made’ angle and stated she only found fame through her big sister Kim.

Now, oddly, Liam Payne has thrown his weight into the issue in a reply to Morgan, writing: ‘I’m sorry but piers are you crazy your only here cuz you talk shit about everyone and make controversial outbursts about people to get attention.

‘At least @KylieJenner has her own business she built herself why not congratulate someone for once instead of knocking people [sic].’

Piers didn’t shy away from responding, writing: ‘Hi Liam, a) she didn’t “build herself”, she became rich & famous from her sister’s sex tape. B) It’s “you’re”.’

Clearly not in the mood for a grammatical lesson, Liam responded: ‘Sorry could you say it louder from the back of the line of irrelevant people please.’

In case you were wondering, Piers Morgan was initially referring to the infamous illicit tape Kim Kardashian made with rapper Ray J in 2003, which leaked in 2007.

Kim and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan are now household names, shooting to fame on their own reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Kylie Jenner has since launched her own cosmetics company, which Forbes estimates is worth around $900 million (£686 million).

Recently the Kardashians have been hitting headlines after Khloe’s relationship with Tristan Thompson broke down, who is the father of her daughter True.

The Prodigy’s manager has paid tribute to band performer Keith Flint, describing him as ‘witty, charming and pensive’.

Flint was found dead at his home aged 49 on Monday morning in Dunmow, Essex, with police stating his death is ‘not being treated as suspicious’.

While his cause of death is yet to be confirmed, Keith’s bandmate Liam Howlett told fans he took his own life.

In a post on Instagram, The Prodigy’s manager Nick Halkes wrote a lengthy tribute which recalled some of his favourite memories of Flint.

Nick wrote: ‘Without Keefs contribution to #TheProdigy, life would have been quite different for me and there would have been no shortage of voices over the last 36 hours expressing the sense of loss that accompanies the departure of this extraordinary performer.

‘Having signed The Prodigy to XL before they played their first gig I was fortunate to have a unique insight into the very early stages of the bands development. In the early 90s they once found themselves playing a bar in Florida. Many of the people in there were looking at the tiny stage with bemusement. Undeterred, Keef left the stage and spent an extended period firing things up from in amongst the audience, connecting with every single person in there individually until he took up a position on top of the bar once he had the knowledge that he had won all doubters over. By the summer of 1997 they had a number one album all over the planet.

‘Whether it was an underground rave in the early 90s, one of 2018s phenomenal tour dates or any number of performances across the spaces inbetween Keef and Maxim were always an incendiary combination out front. Liams beats could not have been in better hands and it was in the live arena that Keef burned brightest.

Instagram Photo

‘Onstage Keefs presence was immense. Offstage he could be witty, charming, pensive and mercurial.’

He added: ‘Whilst there was much complexity to the man, an easier and simpler memory is of Keef enjoying life and shining brightly – onstage or off. RIP #keithflint #asktwice #smalltalksaveslives #timetotalk.’

The Prodigy, known for tracks like Breathe and Firestarter, recently cancelled all their future shows in the wake of Keith Flint’s death.

His last performance with the band was on 5 February at The Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. They were set to headline London’s SW4 festival which takes place on Clapham Common on 24 and 25 August.

Tributes have also poured in for the star from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Chase & Status, Kasabian and Jo Whiley.

First Dates waitress Laura Tott has been left devastated after her beloved dog Lucy was shot and killed while out walking near their home.

The star of the Channel 4 series has been left devastated and shared the horrifying news online to her followers on Wednesday night.

Sharing pictures of the adorable black Labrador, Laura seemed besotted with her pet before revealing that Lucy’s passing was anything other than normal.

Next to one photo, which sees Laura lying on a rug starring into the pup’s eyes, she shared: ‘Thank you for being the best friend I could ever wish for. You were taken so early, I only had you a year but you brightened up my whole life and everyone else’s too.’

In another message on Insta stories, written on a photo of Lucy running by the sea, Laura added: ‘For those asking, Lucy was shot and killed whilst out walking yesterday.

‘Beyond heartbroken. Thank you so much for all the messages, means a lot.’

Laura, a former member of the Royal Navy, has been a fan favourite on First Dates since she joined the show in 2015 alongside Cici Coleman.

When not filming, Laura works as an ambulance technician.

She adopted Lucy from Manchester Dogs Home last April.

Over the past year, she has been keeping her followers updated with Lucy’s welfare, calling her her ‘best friend’.

In another picture, pup Lucy looked like she had got in trouble with her mum, as a pair of pants lay on the grass next to her.

But Laura didn’t seem to mind too much, and joked: ‘She is my favourite thing ever… even when she steals my knickers and runs with them into the garden.’

Ricky Gervais has revealed that he has already had complaints over his new show After Life from the trailer alone – because he called a kid a ‘ginger c**t’.

Apparently, people took offence to him calling the kid ginger.

The trailer of After Life gives a glimpse into the new series, where Tony (played by Gervais) says and does whatever he wants, regardless of the consequences, as he tries to deal with the loss of his wife, Lisa.

So when a kid in a playground starts calling him in a ‘pedo’ for simply walking past the school gates, Tony snaps back: ‘I’m not a pedo, and if I was you’d be safe, you tubby little ginger c**t.’

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other outlets about the release of the series, Ricky was joined by Kerry Godliman when they revealed the backlash over that one line.

‘Someone said the other day that the line with the pedo, ginger, c***… you got a complaint about the ginger bit?,’ Kerry asked him.

‘Yeah! Someone said “Oh, having a go at gingers? Boring!”’, Ricky said. ‘And people would say “Oh you wouldn’t do that if he was black!”’

‘Well, no. That’s a completely different What If? There’s so many different What Ifs? Like Oh What if… it’s really odd,’ he added. ‘Some people just want to get in the way. They get in the way.

‘It’s crazy and you mustn’t worry about it because there’s nothing you can say that someone won’t misinterpret and find offensive.’

‘Someone somewhere – “Why did the chicken cross the road?”- Well hey dude, my chicken died yesterday. There’s something in there for someone of take offence to,’ he added.

However, despite the choice of word to get offended to, Ricky added that he understood it – and that was important when it came down to playing Tony.

He said: ‘If you’re having a bad day, you don’t care about anyone else’s bad day, you don’t even acknowledge it. To a ridiculous degree, because we’re such a narcissistic race, we really are – I mean the human race.’

As an example, Ricky added that his routine in new stand-up special Humanity got another unexpected backlash from a fan – over a joke about nut allergies.

‘I got a complaint on Twitter from someone who said “this isn’t funny, you should never joke about food allergies”,’ he revealed. ‘I sent back “I make jokes about AIDS, famine, cancer and the Holocaust, and you’re telling me I shouldn’t joke about food allergies?!” and she said: “Yes but the Holocaust didn’t kill children.”

‘So people think their thing is the worst.’

The new series (which we think is brilliant by the way) focuses on Tony as he spirals into a depression about the loss of his wife.

Working at a local newspaper, he’s given up trying to see the light in life – and those around him rally around to bring back the friend they once knew.

After Life series 1 is available on Netflix this Friday.
