R Kelly’s girlfriends have defended him in an interview with CBS (Picture: BACKGRID)
R Kelly’s girlfriends Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary have accused their parents of lying about claims the singer has held them against their will as part of a ‘sex cult’.
They will appear on CBS’ This Morning on Thursday and in a clip teased on Twitter, Azriel is seen breaking down in tears while defending Kelly.
She says: ‘I’m crying because you guys don’t know the truth, you guys are believing some fucking facade that our parents are saying.
‘This is all fucking lies for money, and if you can’t see that, you’re ignorant and you’re stupid.’
WATCH: @GayleKing spoke to Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary about living with R. Kelly and their estranged relationship with their families. It made them very emotional.
Joycelyn is seen with her arm around Azriel in the video.
Both girls’ parents appeared in the documentary Surviving R Kelly and accused the Ignition hit-maker of holding their daughters ‘against their will’. Azriel’s parents claim they haven’t had contact with her in three years.
Kelly has denied all allegations against him and hit back at claims he is holding his girlfriends hostage while being interviewed by King.
He broke down and said he was ‘fighting for my fucking life’, as he told Gayle: ‘I don’t need to, why would I, how stupid would I be… all that I’ve been through in my past to hold somebody… how stupid would I be to do that? That’s stupid guys.

‘Use your common sense, forget how you feel about me, hate me if you want to, love me if you want to… how stupid would it be for my crazy past and what I’ve been through.
‘Stop it, y’all quit playing. I didn’t do this stuff. This is not me. I’m fighting for my fucking life.’
‘They’re my girlfriends, we have a relationship. It’s real,’ he said.
‘What kind of father, what of mother will sell their daughter to a man? How come it was OK for me to see them until they wasn’t getting no money from it?
‘If I were going to take my daughter and she’s 19 to a 49-year-old’s concert, I’m not going to take her to the stage and leave her.’
When asked if he had sex with Clary (now 21) when she was 17 years old, he replied: ‘Absolutely not. Although her parents wanted me to.’
Kelly is due to appear in court on the charges on 8 March, where if convicted, he could receive a sentence of up to 70 years in jail.

Machine Gun Kelly thinks Pete Davidson’s new girlfriend is ‘rad’ (Picture: Getty Images)
Machine Gun Kelly is a big fan of his pal Pete Davidson’s new girlfriend Kate Beckinsale.
Saturday Night Live host Pete finally confirmed his relationship with Kate by indulging in a very tongue-filled PDA with the actress at a hockey game in New York recently.
And having his say on their romance, Machine Gun Kelly – real name Colson Baker – told TMZ that he quickly realised there was something going on between the pair.
‘I had to figure out, it took me like 15 seconds,’ he said, before giving his seal of approval: ‘She’s rad. I love that shit.’
Pete and Kate have been linked for the last couple of months, after flirting with one another at the Golden Globes and being pictured holding hands.

Kate had also hinted at their romance on Instagram by sassily hitting back at people criticising her new man.
Matt had been 21 years old when he first got together with Kate in 2017 and they dated for a year.
He told TMZ: ‘Advice for Pete? Man to man? Run. Enjoy it while you can… I hope they’re both happy,’ he added. ‘I don’t really have any solid advice, just be careful.’

Speaking about his relationship with Kate, Matt, who said he hasn’t spoken to the actress for over a year, told the publication: ‘We dated for a year and it was complicated, for sure.
‘A lot of ups and downs, but she’s moved on and I’m happy, I hope they’ve both found or get out of it what they want to get out of it.’
Pete was previously engaged to Ariana Grande. They split in October after a whirlwind romance and she has said that she thinks ex Pete and Kate are ‘so cute’ together.

She said: ‘A few months ago i told my team i wasn’t even in an okay enough place to tour or work at all and my friends.
‘I’m still healing but i feel a lot lighter as of late and i think this is really going to be such a beautiful time. thank god we are doing this. i can’t imagine what else i’d do and i want you to know how thankful i am…… anyway.’

Riverdale’s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced the sweet tribute on Twitter before the show aired.
He posted a picture of Luke with the cast of Riverdale and said: ‘Going through pictures on my way to set. From the early days. With Luke in the middle. Our heart, always.
‘Tonight’s episode of #Riverdale finds Fred doing what he does best–helping Archie. It is dedicated to Luke, as all episodes will be for the rest of our run.’
Fans were moved by the tribute, with one posting: ‘Paying tribute to Luke Perry with every episode of #Riverdale feels just right to do. No one else could’ve made Fred into that guy — & that’s an impact that is going to last.’

Fun episode of #Riverdale tonight – bittersweet to see Luke Perry as Fred Andrews get to save the day at episode's end. For all its ups and downs, Perry and the rest of the cast created something unique and memorable with this series.
Paying tribute to Luke Perry with every episode of #Riverdale feels just right to do. No one else could've made Fred into that guy — & that's an impact that is going to last.
My heart is still in pain. I’m going to be feeling it for awhile. The world lost an amazing actor and most of all a good man. #Riverdale will never be the same. My thoughts go out to his family. R.I.P Luke Perry you will never be forgotten.
Another said: ‘Fred Andrews will live on forever <3.’
In the episode, Luke’s character Fred had saved the day, arriving just in time to save his son Archie’s life after Joaquin’s little brother Ricky tried to kill him with a knife.
Jack said: ‘He loved and supported me in everything, and inspired me to be the best that I could possibly be. I’ve learned so much from you, and my heart is broken thinking about everything you won’t be here for.
‘I’ll miss you every day that I walk this earth. I’ll do whatever I can to carry on your legacy and make you proud. I love you Dad.’
Luke shot to fame in 90s series Beverly Hills, 90210 as Dylan McKay alongside Shannen Doherty. Fans may also recognise him from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
She’s addressed their feud (Picture: Rich Fury/Getty Images)
Years after Taylor Swift was thrust into an all-out war with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West after the rapper claimed he got her permission for his Famous line about her, it’s all happening again.
You know, the one where he said the two might still have sex, and that he ‘made that bitch famous’. How could you forget?
For a little refresher: in 2016, Taylor said she didn’t know he was going to say those lines, but then Kim dropped the bomb when she released a clip of Ye on the phone to T-Swizzle where she said the line about having sex was cool.
Kim claimed it was national snake day (Picture: Rex Features)
Then, because it seemed the smart thing to do for Kim, she declared the holiday ‘National Snake Day’ and basically everyone on the internet joined in by bullying Taylor.
Now the Reputation singer has reignited the feud, perhaps, by addressing it in a recent essay speaking about bullies.
‘In my experience, I’ve come to see that bullies want to be feared and taken seriously,’ she wrote for Elle US. ‘A few years ago, someone started an online hate campaign by calling me a snake on the internet. The fact that so many people jumped on board with it led me to feeling lower than I’ve ever felt in my life.’
Not naming names, she’s classy like that, it’s clear the person she’s referring to is Kim. Unless someone else started that campaign and Kimmy is taking the credit…
Anyway, Taylor definitely reclaimed the term, as she basically branded her whole Reputation tour with the reptile.
‘I can’t tell you how hard I had to keep from laughing every time my 63-foot inflatable cobra, named Karyn, appeared onstage in front of 60,000 screaming fans,’ she continued. Of course it was called Karyn.
‘It’s the Stadium Tour equivalent of responding to a troll’s hateful Instagram comment with “lol”.’
Still, the singer is pretty keen on a proper apology, as she added: ‘It would be nice if we could get an apology from people who bully us, but maybe all I’ll ever get is the satisfaction of knowing I could survive it, and thrive in spite of it.’
In January, Kim insisted there was no longer a feud between the two, though, as she said to Andy Cohen: ‘I feel like we’ve all moved on.’
Seems they may need a little mediation.

R Kelly’s girlfriend Joycelyn Savage has contacted her family (Picture: AP/Matt Marton)
R Kelly’s girlfriend Joycelyn Savage has contacted her family for the first time since 2017.
Joycelyn’s parents appeared in the documentary Surviving R Kelly and accused the singer of ‘holding their daughter against her will’ as part of a ‘sex cult’.
Kelly has denied the claims and reports allege Joycelyn told her parents that she is staying with the Ignition hit-maker out of choice.
Gerald Griggs, the Savage family’s attorney, re-tweeted a post that said Joycelyn had phoned her parents and shared a video of the phone call.
Joycelyn is heard telling her parents: ‘I’ve told you a million times that I’m OK where I am and I’m happy.’
BREAKING: 30 minutes after @AttorneyGriggs held a press conference at his office in reference to @rkelly’s interview with @CBSThisMorning, Joycelyn called her parents.
The tweet claims the call is ‘scripted’ and Griggs told Rolling Stone: ‘After speaking with her little sister, Joycelyn paused from the seemingly prepared script and was able to share her love for her family.
‘We hope that today was the first step to re-establishing a loving relationship with her family.’
Metro.co.uk have contacted a representative for R Kelly.
Her family have accused Kelly of ‘brainwashing’ Joycelyn. Kelly – who has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four victims, three of which were underage at the time – has denied all allegations against him.
Kelly accused Joycelyn’s parents and the parents of his other girlfriend Azriel Clary of ‘selling their daughters’ to him and denied he has held the girls against their will.
WATCH: @GayleKing spoke to Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary about living with R. Kelly and their estranged relationship with their families. It made them very emotional.
He is due to appear in court on the sexual abuse charges on 8 March, where if convicted, he could receive a sentence of up to 70 years in jail.

American Gods has faced a number of problems ahead of season two (Picture: Amazon)
The cast of American Gods have addressed claims of ‘turmoil’ behind-the-scenes while filming season two, claiming it was just a ‘tricky beginning’.
A number of changes have occurred between the first and second season of American Gods. Key cast members Kristin Chenoweth and Gillian Anderson have left, the episode count was cut, and original showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green both left the show.
Jesse Alexander came aboard as the new showrunner, but he then left midway through filming — amid claims he had been ‘pushed out’ due to script issues. Now producing director Chris Byrne and line producer Lisa Kussner have stepped up to the plate to fill the role.
Ask about these claims of ‘turmoil’ amid shifting showrunners to cast members Ricky Whittle (Shadow) and Emily Browning (Laura), however, and you’ll be told a slightly different picture, albeit a conflicted one.
Ricky Whittle as Shadow and Emily Browning as Laura (Picture: Amazon)
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Browning said: ‘I don’t think turmoil… it was tricky in the beginning.’
‘It’s not even that,’ Whittle replied. ‘It’s just mountains out of molehills. People don’t have anything to write so they just make mountains out of molehills. I just think it’s so dumb. The person who did it said we’re in turmoil in the first season and it was critically acclaimed and did really well, so it’s going to be awesome with season two too.
‘Every show has comings and goings. You have casts, directors and producers, it’s what happens. We may have several more in the future, of course we will, but it’s a monster show and in keeping with the theme of the show where gods only fear being forgotten, people are talking about us. And we need to start worrying when people stop writing about us.’
In fact, the pair claimed the shifting changes brought the cast closer to the creative process — allowing them to collaborate more with the new crew members.
‘I think what makes this show different, apart from the fact everyone’s talking about it which is great, is stuff like that does happen in various shows,’ Whittle added. ‘I’ve been part of many shows which have gone through changes, and it does make or break you. And the great thing about this cast and the crew up in Toronto is it just made us tighter.
‘You go through changes and then it’s up to us. We’ve lived in the characters for a whole season, so now we have that responsibility to keep continuity. We collaborate with the writers and new showrunners and producers that come in, and you all work together and you put something out there. But in this case, it really did bring us closer and we had a real fun second season hanging out and long may that continue.’
Browning said: ‘I would also say it’s not so much that it’s rare these big shifts happen during a production, what’s rare is that every detail on it is reported on.
‘I think a lot of the time things like this are happening in every single show you watch but you just don’t hear about it. And everyone knew from the beginning of us filming season two that we had a change in showrunners and that was a speed bump for us to get over, and for us to figure out.
‘But I think we’re all like a family at this point and it was an opportunity for the cast I think to be more creatively involved in the process.’
Ian McShane, who plays Wednesday, is similarly dismissive about the claims, stating how Jesse Alexander came into troubled situation.
‘There wasn’t turmoil,’ McShane told Metro.co.uk. ‘The fact is there was a disagreement, probably hubris ego and money came in there somewhere between.
‘There was an embargo on it because lawyers were involved, but all I know is Bryan and Michael created a great first season, left a legacy for season two to build upon, but [it was] very difficult for the situation that Jesse came into. Jesse became like an editor in a sense, trying to meet the demands of of what the show had to.
‘But I’m a producer on the show we had a chat about it, and he had other people there and the writers, and there was an involvement. I think the show is actually better than season one, in terms of we’ve reached the goal to get back more to the book, to get back more to what the story is about and to leave you hanging again to be resolved later.’
It’s likely we’ll never fully know what happened behind-the-scenes on the second season, but the bigger question is whether the show will continue the promising steps made by the first despite the problems.
American Gods season two kicks off on Starz in the US Sunday 10 March, and airs in the UK on Amazon Prime Video.
Antoni, the guacamole master, was made a meme of (out of love, we promise) as he tried to concentrate on the hockey game while Kate and Pete played a tonsil version of the match alongside him.
Seems Underworld actress Kate has noticed the memes and she’s keen to deflect somewhat.
The 45-year-old has responded on Instagram to one of the said memes making their way around the place, posted by @dietbroke_, which labels each player in this trio.
Kate is labelled as ‘me’, while Pete, 25, has the phrase ‘Guy with problems from childhood who I can “fix”.’
Ouch.
On Antoni, 34, though, it read: ‘Wholesome guys with good paying jobs who text back and have no baggage.’
Because you can’t troll the ultimate troll queen, Kate commented on Instagram: ‘Antoni is gay, if that helps clarify at all.’
And with that, Kate continued to really show everyone she DGAF about the weigh-ins on her fresh relationship with SNL comedian Pete.
In one way, she’s clarifying she wasn’t ‘ignoring’ Antoni by not making out with him (rude, apparently), she’s definitely also clapping back in the most cheeky of ways by calling out haters poking fun at her age gap with Pete – who was most recently engaged to Ariana Grande last year.
Their hot and heavy display comes after new pictures emerged of the duo kissing in the stalls – and Pete couldn’t look happier about the whole thing.
And Kate didn’t seem to mind about the huge PDA, as while looking pretty pleased with herself, the Underworld star went and kissed her beau back, reworking the phrase to be ‘kiss like nobody is watching.’
The pair set tongues wagging about a potential romance when they were spotted together during the Golden Globes and, well, see for yourself – everything seems to be going swimmingly.

Kourtney Kardashian wasn’t born yesterday and she definitely doesn’t suffer fools or any other whimsical analogies we can squeeze into this sentence.
And after posting a naked shot of herself hustling in the bathroom to announce her new company, posing with a laptop in one hand and a cuppa in the other while perched on her bathroom sink, the reality star found herself in the crosshairs of comedian Celeste Barber.
The Aussie has made a neat career out of ripping into celebrities and it’s all done in a light-hearted manner, we must stress, however after Celeste put her own spin on Kourtney’s nude snap it’s caught the eye of the reality star.
Kourtney’s OG announcement (Picture: Kourtney Kardashian)
Posing instead with a bottle of wine instead of the classy teacup, Celeste wrote of 39-year-old Kourtney’s raunchy shoot: ‘When you’re flat out trying to keep the world interested in your talent.’
Oh no she didn’t!
Celeste has a massive following and pretty soon the picture was liked hundreds of thousands of times, by the likes of January Jones, Whitney Cummings and Tracy Anderson.
Kourtney evidently saw what Celeste was throwing out there, as she replied with the witty clapback: ‘When you’ve got so much talent, might as well share it.’
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s comment has over 7000 likes itself, as fans applauded her reply.
Still, some felt Kourt was taking Celeste’s post too seriously, as others debated what Kourtney’s ‘talent’ was, because that’s what people like to do these days.
Guess it doesn’t matter how famous you are, Kourtney still isn’t immune from the trolling of Celeste – who has made a name for herself online by trolling and spoofing photos of models and celebrities with her own ‘real world’ version.
It’s called the Celeste Challenge. And it’s pretty awesome.
From Bella Hadid, to Kourtney’s sister Kim, Celeste has trolled the lot of them with her hilarious impersonations.
We can’t see it raining on Kourt’s big announcement though, after the mother-of-three channelled her inner Gwyneth Paltrow and launched her very own lifestyle site titled Poosh – the nickname of her daughter Penelope, six.
The reality star hasn’t revealed too much about the website just yet, instead keeping us fans guessing, teasing that it will be ‘coming soon’.
Us Weekly reports that Poosh will be a lifestyle site where Kourtney will share content and related tips in a similar way she previously did on her now-defunct app.
We hope it has those tea cups.

George’s books have been leapfrogged by the TV show (Picture: Tolga Akmen/REX/Shutterstock)
George RR Martin has been leaving us hanging for a new installment in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series since 2011, when he released A Dance With Dragons.
This meant that the show based on the books – a little indie production called Game Of Thrones, you probably haven’t heard of it – has leapfrogged past George’s writings.
And the author admits that he wishes he’d finished his books sooner so he knew what would be happening in the season 8 finale.
Honestly, same.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 70-year-old confessed he has ‘mixed feelings’ about Game Of Thrones coming to an end, saying: ‘It’s been an incredible ride. And almost all of it has been great.
‘Obviously, I wished I finished these books sooner so the show hadn’t gotten ahead of me. I never anticipated that.’
A Dance With Dragons ended with the cliffhanger of Jon Snow’s murder, a death that capped off season five of the series back in 2015. So the epic fantasy saga will find its first official ending on HBO, and not in the literary series which began in 1996.
Martin is still working on his sixth novel The Winds Of Winter, and plans to wrap up the series with A Dream Of Spring.
The final series kicks off next month (Picture: HBO/Helen Sloan)
However, this will likely have a much different ending to what we see on HBO, with the eighth and final season kicking off on 14 April.
And the author is just as in the dark as we are about the plot… because he hasn’t read the scripts.
He said: ‘I haven’t read the [final-season] scripts and haven’t been able to visit the set because I’ve been working on Winds.
‘I know some of the things. But there’s a lot of minor-character [arcs] they’ll be coming up with on their own. And, of course, they passed me several years ago. There may be important discrepancies.’
Game Of Thrones season eight begins on 14 April on HBO and Sky Atlantic.

A warrant has been issued for Tyga’s arrest (Picture: Getty)
A warrant has been issued for Tyga’s ‘arrest’, after he failed to appear in court.
The 29-year-old was due in front of a judge over reportedly failing to pay a settlement awarded to a fan, after she was injured at his concert in 2015.
Tyga reportedly failed to appear in court over the case (Picture: FilmMagic)
However, a rep for Tyga – real name Micheal Stevenson – stated the star was forced to miss the appearance because he was travelling.
‘Due to a last minute work obligation Tyga was travelling and was forced to miss his debtor’s exam,’ they told the publication.
‘The judge issued the bench warrant for the sole purpose of ensuring Tyga will sit for the next Debtor’s exam.’
Shyanne Riekena sued the rapper’s company, Tyga Music, four years ago after she was injured at his concert.
She was left with a four-inch gash on the top of her head when a lighting stand crashed down on her, and was later awarded $235,000 (£178k) in damages.

That figure rose to $250,000 in 2017, but he reportedly has yet to pay up.
Not only is the lip-kit queen the only female ‘self-made’ billionaire on the under-40 list, but she also beat Mark Zuckerberg’s achievement by two years.
Speaking about the news, she admitted the ‘recognition’ feels ‘really good’.
Ermmmm, understatement much?
‘I didn’t expect anything. I did not foresee the future. But [the recognition] feels really good,’ she told Forbes.
‘That’s a nice pat on the back.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted Tyga’s reps for a comment.

Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson have grilled one another in an epic lie-detector test upon the release of their latest film Captain Marvel.
Forget any sort of post-credits scene, just air this video, Marvel.
After belting out a great rendition of Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings on a special episode of Carpool Karaoke (we must note, Samuel’s singing of the ‘you like my hair? Gee thanks, just bought it’ is particularly brilliant), the two then got wired up for a lie-detector test where many a revelation came out – including Samuel’s admission he farts during filming.
Which is just the kind of breaking (wind) news we feel like learning on a Thursday morning, non?
The two are evidently pretty close (Picture: WireImage)
Anyway during their trip, Samuel grabbed a friend as he said to Brie: ‘I think we should work on that bond, trust…’
As a polygraph operator John jumped into the back of the Range Rover, Brie was a little startled as she was hooked up to a bunch of wires, asking if it was all necessary.
Brie was keen to get the goss from Samuel (Picture: Apple TV/ Carpool Karaoke)
Seems it was, as Samuel immediately began grilling his co-star: ‘Would you be honest with me if you didn’t like my performance in a scene?’
Knowing the wrath she may come to face should she do such a thing, Brie quipped: ‘Nope!’
Captain Marvel is about to bless our senses (Picture: Marvel Studios)
Which was true.
He then asked if she actually liked his famous Kangol hats. Brie said she did, which was determined to be a lie.
This is spicier than Maury Povich.
After the lie detector test determined Brie didn’t think Samuel ‘had a strong singing voice’ either, she exclaimed: ‘He’s making sh*t up. Can we just switch?’
Now with the gadgets all hooked up to Samuel, who was sat in the driver’s seat, he was seen to be telling the truth about liking Brie’s Captain Marvel suit.
When asked if he would be honest if he didn’t like Brie’s performance, he also was found to be telling the truth after confidently saying ‘yeah!’
Then he was asked: ‘Have you ever farted while filming a scene’
The guy just can’t lie, as he said: ‘All the time.’
Staying on that road of questioning, she followed up the first fluffy question with: ‘Did you fart while we were doing this?’
He replied: ‘Course not!’ However, the lie detector test determined that was a lie…
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she told the host: ‘I trained for nine months and got super strong.
‘But then you also have to learn weird things, like how to make a cool face.’
Ah Brie, we think you do fine.
Captain Marvel is in cinemas tomorrow.

Jerhonda Pace, 25, reacted to the tense interview in a Facebook post, which read: ‘Studying psychology has done great things for me. Looking at that clip of Robert during his interview for Gayle King; I didn’t see R Kelly, I didn’t see my abuser.
‘I didn’t want to read him with a biased attitude. What I saw was a man that needs help. For decades he’s been around enablers who never told him the truth. When you’ve been doing wrong for decades, and the people around you makes you feel that your actions are right, you tend to believe that you’re doing no wrong.’
Jerhonda alleges that R Kelly, 52, groomed her for sex when she aged 16 but she doesn’t think a prison sentence will help him overcome any issues.
She continued: ‘I don’t believe that prison will help or “fix” Robert’s actual problems. Truth is he’s fighting for his beliefs. In his heart, mind, body, and soul he believes he’s done no wrong.
‘I think asylum is what he needs: 24/7 care and attention. A psych evaluation is mandatory. Mental health is important.’

During his interview with King, the R&B singer claimed he’s never had sex with underage women and admitted he needs help but not for the reasons some might think.
R Kelly said: ‘I’m very tired of all the lies, I’ve been hearing and seeing things on the blogs…. They are lying on me.’
He added: ‘I need help. I need somebody to help me not have a big heart because my heart is so big. They keep betraying me.’

There have been too many tragic deaths of refugees simply seeking safety and help in the west (Picture: Getty/INS)
Over the past decade alone, there have been too many tragic deaths of refugees simply seeking safety and help in the west – but one in particular stands out for Juliet Stevenson.
‘Many young boys were forced to flee Afghanistan because of the Taliban who tried to recruit them,’ she says, quietly.
‘One young boy had a legal entitlement to be in the UK because he had family here and under EU law, if you have family in UK, you are entitled to come and stay for as long as you need to before returning home. But this boy, Mohammad, he was 17 and he had been waiting for his case to be cleared and the government were not responding so he got tired and snuck on to a lorry and clung on to the underside of a lorry across the channel and then for many hours throughout England.
‘And then somewhere in Oxfordshire the lorry crashed, and he was killed under the lorry, age 17.’
She pauses: ‘It must have been an unimaginable journey and then a desperate end to his life and he was by law entitled to be here, and if the government had done what they should have done.’

Juliet is a CBE, Bafta-nominated actress who has starred in classic movies such as Truly, Madly, Deeply, Emma, and Bend It Like Beckham but it is her work for Amnesty International on which she has focused most heavily in recent years.
Such a restriction sets the UK apart from most other countries in the EU and although MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of changing the rules in 2018, Home Secretary Sajid Javid has yet to sign the law.

‘This is the biggest issue of our times,’ says Juliet.
‘There are 60 million refugees in the world and not a single one of them would chose to be there – the rest of the world has to face up to our responsibility, none of these people have created the situations they face.
‘Children are often forced here because they are escaping recruitment to the Taliban or their families were forced to send them here on a journey to get them out of war zones in Syria.
‘And if they do survive or make it here, they are facing a situation where they are not allowed to have a family member come and join them and that makes no sense. It is inhumane and cruel.’
The UN Refugee Agency states that there are 65.8 million forcibly displaced people in the world; 40 million are internally displaced and 25.4 million are refugees – over half of whom are under the age of 18 – while there are 3.1 million asylum seekers.

Juliet travelled to the refugee camps in Calais and Athens in 2016 when the crisis began to escalate, and through crowdfunding she helped to purchase a double decker bus and converted it into a centre for women and young children to help shelter them from what she calls ‘police brutality’ and the ‘aggression’ of the camps.
They replaced the seats with stoves for warmth, placed solar panels on the roof for electricity and offered storage for nappies, baby milk and blanket, and it became a safe haven for the most vulnerable at a time when many began to turn and look the other way.
New research from Amnesty has revealed that over 70% of Brits admit to feeling moved by charity campaigns but only 51% have subsequently acted on these feelings.
We have become desensitised to these overwhelming and frightening stories but Juliet says, it hasn’t been helped that the conversation has become ‘confusing thanks to endless talk of Brexit and the free movement of people’.

‘For clarity, we need to separate immigration from those seeking refuge from war and conflict, those are two separate things, but everything is lumped together under immigration,’ she adds.
‘The number of refugees seeking asylum is very small, and children – there are only 700 children a year, two a day – [seeking asylum], it is a tiny number that we’re talking about.
‘But people are overwhelmed by tabloid media, and people don’t know what to do. It doesn’t get resolved. So many news stories are resolved, there is a plot – there is a crime, someone is found, they go to trial, it ends – but this crisis doesn’t get resolved so media outlets get tired of telling the same story because we don’t know how to keep telling it.
‘But the reality is the refugees story doesn’t end, there is no beginning middle and end for them.’

One of the easiest ways to help is to sign a petition, suggests Juliet.
‘Go to Amnesty, click on campaigns, go to Families Together and sign it, that is really doing something,’ she says; any petition that receives over 10,000 signatures has to be debated by parliament.
‘The reason celebrities get involved is because these stories are not being told, and if they were we wouldn’t have to do this. If refugees were given a forum to tell their own stories that would be better,’ she says.
Juliet joins others as they call on the UK government to change the law (Picture: Amnesty)
‘Imagine if your family was split up, if your child was in one country and your mum was in another country, and another child you’d lost track of and could have been drowned, how would you feel?’ she posits.
‘We need to be more informed, don’t believe everything you read, know your news has a bias, look to other sources like Amnesty, but what I say to people all the time was imagine it was you.
‘Imagine putting your child on a small boat and seeing it cross the rough choppy sea and not knowing if you will ever see them again, no one choose to do that, it is only done out of desperation. So compassion and empathy and imagination are great tools for change.
‘What are their names and ages and what do they do for a living? When you get to know them they are doctors and architects and restaurateurs and a gardener… these labels get stuck on them and allow us to see them as other but they are like you and me, they just want to live in their own home country.’
In 2017, Steve Ali finally made it to the UK, four years after he escaped Syria when young men began to be forced in to the army where they would be made to shoot at and gas their own countrymen.
He had been training to be an architect in Damascus but after being forced into exile, he spend three years walking across Europe and a year in the Jungle in Calais before he arrived in the UK.
His story has also stayed with Juliet, as it’s an example of how goodwill and faith and empathy can change these young people’s lives.
‘For a few weeks he was given his £35 by the government to survive,’ says Juliet, ‘but within a few more weeks he had started a silversmith business, he had a room to live in, and he now makes beautiful jewelry and he sells it online – and he has just employed his first employee at £10 an hour.’
‘Within a few months, this man has contributed to the economy, paying tax and national insurance and these stories are everywhere if refugees are allowed to work.’
There is no easy way to solve the crisis and with no end in sight, many are at a loss as to what we do next.
There is one thing though.
‘It is the time to get involved,’ says Juliet.
‘It is too late to be passive – even if it’s signing a petition or joining a Amnesty or environment group you do feel better, it’s better to be involved.’

But the 38-year-old has decided she will not be ‘backing down to anybody’ and will head back on the ice one last time.
Honestly, we are living for it.
Gemma was booted off Dancing On Ice in week five (Picture: ITV)
During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show – which is airing on Saturday – she told the host: ‘You know what I did pull out. Then I thought for everyone that supported me, for my own self-esteem, I’m not going to back down to anybody.
‘I am going to walk back in on that show on Sunday night and I’m going to skate like it’s the last day of my life.’
Bring it on!
Gemma was booted off the show in week five, alongside skating partner Matt Evers.
Jason Gardiner caused outrage when he called Gemma Collins a fridge (Picture: ITV)
When informed by Phillip Schofield that the ‘GC was coming back’, he replied: ‘Oh, I thought that was a refrigerator’.
‘You made friends, she said you were friends,’ the host said, to which he added: ‘She said it. Look, I don’t hold a grudge. I don’t really know the woman, at all.
‘Life moves on, I’ve moved on and there’s more important things to be worried about.’
His comments caused outrage, with many accusing him of fat-shaming the reality star, something he fiercely denied.
And Gem wasn’t taking the barb lying down, and hit back on Instagram, fuming: ‘I’m really tired of being BULLIED by this man …. I wish you would stop …..
‘It’s very very upsetting and hurtful let it go Jason stop bullying me ENOUGH is ENOUGH I won’t be bullied any more making me feel uncomfortable to come back to the final on Sunday!
‘I was looking forward to Sunday but won’t be anywhere near someone who’s BULLYING me …. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE on any level comparing any human to an electrical appliance is not acceptable #STANDUPTOBULLIES.’
We can’t wait to see what she comes up with on Sunday.
The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday, at 9.20pm, on ITV.

R Kelly has faced new sexual assault allegations (Picture: AP)
R Kelly has been accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl, and later giving her herpes.
Police in Detroit are looking into new allegations after a woman came forward, claiming she had sex with the 52-year-old when she was a teenager, in 2001.
According to CBS Chicago, his accuser said she was visiting her mum in Detroit at the time, and came into contact with the disgraced singer’s assistant.
R Kelly previously broke down over sexual assault allegations (Picture: CBS News)
She alleges they first had sex in a hotel on 30 December, 2001, before sleeping together in a recording studio weeks later.
The woman, now 30, claims she visited Kelly at his Atlanta home over the next four years, and he gave her a sexually transmitted infection when she was 17.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig confirmed they are looking into her allegations, telling the publication: ‘We are eagerly waiting to speak to the alleged victim.’
The claims come after Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse on four alleged victims, three of which were underage at the time.
He is due to appear in court on 8 March, and could face up to 70 years in jail if found guilty.
In an emotional interview with Gayle King, he said: ‘I don’t need to, why would I, how stupid would I be… all that I’ve been through in my past to hold somebody… how stupid would I be to do that? That’s stupid guys.
‘Use your common sense, forget how you feel about me, hate me if you want to, love me if you want to… how stupid would it be for my crazy past and what I’ve been through.
‘Stop it, y’all quit playing. I didn’t do this stuff. This is not me. I’m fighting for my fucking life.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted Kelly’s lawyer for a comment.

According to The Sun, documents filed at Companies House reveal an agreement Katie signed with creditors when her company, Jordan Trading, went into liquidation.
The agreement reportedly states that if Katie, 40, did not manage to pay off her debt in four years, the nine-bedroom mansion would be put up for auction.
Katie will only have to pay back 41 percent of her total debts which amounts to £856,358 in monthly installments over five years.

However, it’s alleged that she only paid £27.96 to creditors in the year between February 2018 to last month.
A source told the publication: ‘These figures show just how much financial trouble Katie is in and what a challenge she faces to turn things around.
‘Having said that, most people will wonder how she has managed to avoid bankruptcy with an agreement which lets her get away without paying 59 percent of what she owes.’
Jordan Trading was set up in 2003 and at the height of its success, is said to have amassed profits of £1.5 million a year. Back then, Katie’s fortune was estimated to be a healthy £40 million.
It’s already been a difficult year for Katie, who received a three-month driving ban and fined £1,500 after being convicted of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. However, she avoided a separate conviction for drink-driving.
In August, a judge agreed not to declare Katie bankrupt and gave her 12 weeks to pay off her debt. However in October, she was given additional time to pay the debt.
Metro.co.uk have contacted Katie’s reps for comment.

This last season will also have a shorter run of ten episodes, compared to the usual 23.
Showrunner Beth Schwartz and executive producers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim said in a joint statement: ‘This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind.’
Why is Arrow coming to an end?
It seems like there’s a combination of factors involved in the decision to stop making Arrow, the chiefest of which evidently being that Stephen Amell, who plays the title hero Green Arrow, wanted to leave the series.
In a Facebook Live video, in which Amell is seen getting teary, he explains that his decision to leave the show was down to him wanting to spend more time with his wife Cassandra and their young daughter Maverick.
In fact, he’s been feeling this way since the end of season six, and apparently approached Berlanti to tell him as much.
In the video, Amell said: ‘Towards the end of season six, I approached Berlanti and said that I thought both personally and professionally, that at the end of my commitment this coming season, it would be the best for me to move on.’
He made through another couple of seasons, but it seems that the time has finally come for Arrow to end.
Amell also said: ‘I’ve always been a fan of TV shows that not only don’t overstay their welcome but end in a manner that really packs a punch… Something tells me even when I’m done I won’t be gone.
‘If you’ve watched the Arrowverse, you understand. I think it’s been a good run. It’s no Supernatural but it’s been a good run.’
Several of the cast have spoken out on the cancellation, with Juliana Harkavy, who plays Black Canary, calling Arrow: ‘the greatest adventure of [her] life.’
She went on to say in an Instagram post: ‘Here’s to an incredible final season, and here’s to all of you.
‘Thank you for your passion, your love, and your support.’
family ❤️ big time love for this whole crew. my time on arrow was always fun and supportive and also pretty sure I had to change my underwear from laughing too hard (thx a lot @ embett and echo) (joe and rick are funny too) pic.twitter.com/G8aH1NcyBc
— Madison McLaughlin (@MadisonMcLaugh) March 7, 2019
Madison McLaughlin, who plays Evelyn Sharp, has said: ‘My time on arrow was always fun and supportive and also pretty sure I had to change my underwear from laughing too hard’.
Rick Gonzalez, aka Rene Ramirez the show, said: ‘3 years but everyone made me feel like I was here from the beginning. Blessed and grateful to have been a part of this journey.’
There’s still a ways to go yet before we have to say goodbye to Arrow however, as we’re still halfway through season seven, with season eight due to start during the 2019-2020 broadcast calendar.
