Rose McGowan compares Hollywood to Children of God cult: ‘It operates in secrecy’

Rose McGowan has been an outspoken critic of the Hollywood machine, and she’s compared it to the Children of God cult she grew up in.

The author and activist made no secret of growing up in Italy in the infamous cult, a branch of which was run by her father.

Founded in the 1960s, the sex cult originally called The Family International became known infamously as the Children of God after allegations of child abuse was brought to light.

Talking to Ray D’Arcy on his show about the dangers of Hollywood, Rose said: ‘It’s the same kind of coercive power structure that you were describing. It operates in secrecy. Most people think that what happens in Hollywood, it’s just “that’s Hollywood!” It’s over there, but it goes out to the world.’

She went on to warn people about watching Hollywood films with a pinch of salt. ‘It’s the messaging system for our minds,’ she said.

‘It’s the mirror we’re given to look into from such an early age. And it’s a really narrow group of people making these films. So it’s a messed up mirror. “Here’s what you are as a man, here’s what you are as a girl, here’s what you are as a woman, here’s what you are as a boy.”

‘And it twists your head and you have to really careful when you’re there. I think people need to be careful even when they’re casually watching movies or TV, start looking at the information that they’re giving you, not just in the lines.’

She added: ‘Like I was sent a script and for no reason the woman was carrying a laundry basket in every scene, she never did the laundry, there was no washing machine anywhere around her, but she always had a laundry basket. Why?’

This isn’t the first time the Brave writer talked about the cult. Speaking to The Mirror about the 10 years she spent there, she said: ‘I spent the first 10 years of my life living in Italy, where my father was the leader of a chapter of a cult called The Children Of God and I learned to just take myself out of the situation.

‘I practised astral projection as a child. I kind of separated myself from my body and flew away somewhere.’

Roxanne Pallett ‘brazenly’ poses for beach photos in Greece as she makes ‘distasteful’ return to spotlight

Roxanne Pallett has been pictured on a beach holiday in Greece in what has been described as a ‘distasteful’ return to the spotlight.

The former Emmerdale star escaped the harsh British weather last week for the slightly warmer climes of Greece, and it appears the paparazzi managed to spot her frolicking around in the sea on Wednesday.

Roxanne, 36, was all smiles as she enjoyed some alone time in the water and didn’t seem to mind the paparazzi presence despite going into hiding last summer following the Ryan Thomas punchgate saga.

It’s not known who’s joined Roxanne on the beach getaway but she seemed thrilled nonetheless to be in her own company.

The TV star appears to be preparing for a big return to the public eye after she wrongfully accused fellow Celebrity Big Brother star, Ryan, of punching her intentionally while they were play fighting.

In the past week alone, Roxanne has publicly supported Michael Jackson against the sexual abuse allegations, and revealed that she has been receiving treatment for PTSD, panic disorder and anxiety.

Andy Michael, Senior Account Director at crisis and reputation management specialists, The PHA Group, believes Roxanne’s return to the spotlight is too soon after the scandal.

Michael told Metro.co.uk exclusively: ‘I think Roxanne’s media moratorium over the last few months was a wise move.

‘At the peak of the Celebrity Big Brother furore, she was in a pretty irredeemable place, nothing she could do or say would have appeased the public following her behaviour in the house and the response it provoked.

‘With work opportunities drying up, lying low and staying off the grid was all she could do and what she needed to do whilst the public calmed down.’

He added: ‘Her recent return to the spotlight was, in my opinion, slightly ill thought and distasteful and I’m not convinced it will prove to be a smart launchpad for any kind of comeback.

‘I don’t think the public are ready for it, I think many people are still aggrieved by the way she acted on CBB and choosing to come out of exile and return to social media in defense of Michael Jackson has not gone down well.

‘It’ll be interesting to see what she posts next on Instagram and Twitter.’

Ed Hopkins, from PR agency Nusic, believes the beach photos were ‘100% set up’ and agrees with Michael that her return isn’t wise.

The publicist said: ‘I feel this is a bad move for Roxanne. The public are not silly and can see straight through paparazzi set up shots.

‘I’m not sure what her intentions were for setting this up perhaps it was money driven, but it certainly isn’t a good come back. In fact in my opinion this was a bad move and will infuriate the public even more so. People haven’t forgot what happened on CBB.’

What Netflix shows are ending or have been cancelled in 2019?

The Punisher and Jessica Jones
The Punisher and Jessica Jones are among shows that won’t be continuing on Netflix (Picture: Netflix)

Netflix is set to lose some of its most popular shows in the coming months after the axe fell on several of its original series.

The streaming service has given the boot to several Marvel titles since January – but those aren’t the only ones you won’t be seeing again.

The good news is of course that many of its big shows including Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy are set to continue – but what of those we won’t be seeing again?

Here are the ones that won’t be returning, or will be ending before the end of 2019…

Jessica Jones and The Punisher

These two have bitten the dust as part of Netflix axing all Marvel shows from its streaming service, effectively bringing their six-year partnership to an end.

Following the cancellation of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil they announced that Jessica Jones will end after its next series, while The Punisher won’t be returning at all.

The latter decision incurred the wrath of many – including celebrity fans such as Eminem.

The Punisher’s star Jon Bernthal also paid tribute to the show’s ending in a touching Instagram post dedicated to his character, vigilante Frank Castle.

However Marvel has hinted in an open letter that the shows could continue, with some speculating that they could move to Disney’s new streaming service Disney +, as Marvel is now owned by the production company.

Friends From College

Friends From College Netflix show

This ensemble comedy about a group of former Harvard buddies reunited in their 40s – which starred Keegan Michael-Key and Cobie Smulders – is bidding farewell after two seasons, with the news confirmed by its co-creator Nicholas Stoller last month.

Speaking on 19 February, he tweeted: ‘Friends from College will not be returning for a third season. Thanks to everyone who watched it. Happy Presidents Day!’

Netflix added: ‘Friends From College will not return for a third season. We’re grateful to creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco for creating a wise, funny and supremely relatable show.

‘We also want to thank the hard-working crew, and we raise a glass to the amazingly talented cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Savage, Cobie Smulders, Nat Faxon, Annie Parisse, Jae Suh Park and Billy Eichner.’

George RR Martin’s Nightflyers

This adaptation of Martin’s 1980 novella – which was a co-production between Syfy and Netflix – lasted just one season, with Netflix pulling the plug in the wake of low ratings. According to The Hollywood Reporter just 420,000 people watched the season one finale in the US.

The show, which featured a cast including Boardwalk Empire’s Gretchen Mol, as well as -Jodie Turner-Smith, Maya Eshet, Eoin Macken, Sam Strike, David Ajala, Miranda Raison and Angus Sampson – is reportedly one of the most expensive series ever produced by Syfy.

Emma Bunton was ‘angry’ when Geri Horner’s walked out of the Spice Girls.

In case you need a refresher for some reason, The Spice Girls were killing it worldwide when Geri – then Geri Halliwell – announced she was leaving the group in 1998.

As hearts broke globally, it turned out that the rest of the band was as shocked as the rest of us because Ginger Spice left with explaining herself… to anyone.

Her fellow bandmates Emma, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria Beckham were pretty much in the dark as much as the rest of us – which explains the huge mystery behind the exit drama.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Emma explained how much she knew when Geri left the group.

‘Geri just left. No words. No explanation. Nothing,’ she said.

In short, Emma was left utterly clueless.

We weren’t in the dark forever as Geri later admitted she left the group following a struggle with the band’s global fame along with battling an eating disorder and depression.

And it wasn’t only fans, and the Spice Girls themselves, who were left intrigued – and confused – by the shocking breaking up, as Baby Spice revealed that even their idol Madonna wanted in on the pipping hot tea.

Emma said: ‘She just wanted the gossip. There was no way we were going to say anything about Geri. None of us would ever break ranks on that – even for Madonna.’

Things later improved with the group – after a few years of distance between Geri and the women – with Geri asking Emma to be her daughter Bluebell’s godmother in 2006.

However, now lovers of the Wannabe singers can count their lucky stars as they prep for their reunion tour later this year – without Victoria, sadly –  and Emma announced some new solo music.

The woman formerly, but, let’s face it, always known as Baby Spice opened up about working on her latest music, My Happy Place, after the news was announced this week. But it was her tidbit of intel in regards to the pop group she formed in the 90s that has us salivating and wanting more, more, more.

The album is set to be out on 12 April, which features 10 tracks she’s been working on over the last two years.

The mum-of-two has teamed up with a number of impressive singers for the record, including Robbie Williams, who she duets with on a new version of the Spice Girls’ classic hit 2 Become 1.

Aside from Emma’s new tunes, Spice Girls fans also don’t have long to wait until they’ll get to see the spicy gang perform as the long-awaited tour kicks off at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 27 May before they head to Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Bristol and finally London.

When is Netflix’s Madeleine McCann documentary released and what can we expect?

The disappearance of Madeleine McCann is set to come under the spotlight once again with the release of a new Netflix documentary about the case.

Madeleine was just three years old when she disappeared from a hotel room in Portugal where she had been holidaying with her younger siblings and parents Kate and Gerry McCann, in 2007.

The ensuing search for her became the highest-profile missing person investigation in history – but despite the involvement of both Portuguese police and Scotland Yard, she has never been found and what happened to her on that night remains a mystery.

The film is Netflix’s latest foray into true crime documentaries, following the success of others including Making A Murderer, The Staircase and Abducted In Plain Sight.

Here’s what we know about it so far.

When is Netflix’s Madeleine McCann documentary released?

There is no official date for it yet but the film should be released some time in April.

Netflix had been hoping for a 2018 release but the project has reportedly taken longer than expected.

It was originally planned as an eight-part series but sources have now said it might only be a one or two parter instead.

Why has it caused controversy?

Madeleine McCann
Madeleine’s whereabouts have remained a mystery since she vanished (Picture: PA)

The documentary has already been controversial due to the reaction from the McCanns, who have not participated in the film.

They recently released a statement saying that the film could potentially hinder the police investigation into their daughter’s disappearance, which is still active.

‘We are aware that Netflix are planning to screen a documentary in March 2019 about Madeleine’s disappearance,’ the couple said in a statement.

‘The production company told us that they were making the documentary and asked us to participate.

They added: ‘We did not see – and still do not see – how this programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly given there is an active police investigation, it could potentially hinder it.’

‘Consequently, our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme. We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme.’

So far a total of £11.75m has been spent on the search for their daughter, which includes an extra £150,000 of funding which was added to the Scotland Yard investigation, known as Operation Grange, in late 2018.

Dancing On Ice stars Gemma Collins and Jason Gardiner are to be ‘kept apart’ backstage during the live final in the wake of their feud this series.

Producers are said to be taking steps to make sure that Gemma and Jason, who have been feuding throughout the series, don’t clash again and overshadow the final.

They will have dressing rooms at opposite ends of the building to ensure they don’t run in to each other.

‘Gemma and Jason will be kept separate so they won’t be crossing paths backstage tonight. There is still no love lost between them,’ a source told The Sun.

‘They’re dressing rooms are on opposite sides of the venue so hopefully there won’t be any more explosions between them.’

Their falling out kicked off when Gemma called Jason out live on the show after the judge branded her ‘lazy’.

After Jason expressed his ‘regret’ for making Dancing On Ice all about The GC, he put petrol on the fire again when Gemma crashed out by saying it was his ‘pleasure’ not to put her through to the following week.

Things turned nasty again when the Towie star threatened to pull out of the show after Jason compared her to a ‘fridge’.

She labelled the judge a bully, but later changed her mind and decided she will appear in the group dance on Sunday night.

During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, she told the host: ‘You know what I did pull out. Then I thought for everyone that supported me, for my own self-esteem, I’m not going to back down to anybody.

‘I am going to walk back in on that show on Sunday night and I’m going to skate like it’s the last day of my life.’

It comes as Gemma was revealed to have unfollowed all her Dancing On Ice co-stars and the judges on social media, however a source insisted that it was simply to ‘unclog her feed’ and that it was ‘nothing personal’.

Gemma’s time on the show was marred by rumours of diva behaviour backstage and a nasty fall on the ice leaving her with bruised knees.

In the running to win this year’s series are Love Island’s Wes Nelson, ex-Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan and The X Factor finalist Saara Aalto.

Dancing On Ice airs tonight from 6pm on ITV

Dancing On Ice star Vanessa Bauer has responded to a report that she had a ‘fling’ with Wes Nelson, describing the claim as a ‘lie’.

Vanessa, 22, and Wes, 20, are just hours away from ITV’s Dancing On Ice finale, set to take place on Sunday evening.

Despite their last minute rehearsals, the professional dancer found time to hit back at claims that she and Wes enjoyed a brief ‘fling’ in the show’s early stages while he was still in a relationship with Megan Barton-Hanson.

Responding to the reports, Vanessa posted on her Instagram Stories: ‘So before this becomes a thing, literally everything about this is a lie,’ with a cry laughing emoji and thumbs down.

The dancer had shared a screenshot of The Sun’s report of the allegedly short-lived romance.

A source had told the newspaper: ‘They had a thing at the start of the competition.

Vanessa couldn’t help but clap back (Picture: Vanessa Bauer, Instagram)

‘Wes and Vanessa were instantly attracted to each other, you only had to be in the same room as them for a minute to see sparks were flying.

‘But it wasn’t long before Wes decided he would rather stay single. He is the man of the moment and fast becoming a household name.’

The insider added: ‘Girls are queuing up to knock on his door. The last thing he needs is a serious relationship. Vanessa has come to accept it.

‘This has been really awkward but they are both being professional and getting on with it. They know that the Dancing On Ice trophy is theirs to lose.’

Wes’ close friendship with Vanessa was the cause of Megan’s ‘jealousy’ at the beginning of DOI. It prompted the Love Island star to accuse Vanessa of strategically announcing her split from her longtime boyfriend Louis Nathaniel at the start of the show.

Megan, 25, and Wes split in February after seven months of dating. It was rumoured that the couple had reconciled after they shared flirty text messages with each other but Wes has since confirmed that they are not back together.

While we might be waiting with bated breath for the finale of Game Of Thrones, Maisie Williams will sleep easy knowing she’s gained a massive family from the HBO series.

The eighth and final season will hit screens next month and even though she won’t be seeing her on screen chums every day, she’s revealed a secret WhatsApp group between the cast that keeps them connected.

Even if it is just to share ridiculously embarrassing photos of one another that may or may not make it out into the public one day.

‘We have a Game of Thrones WhatsApp and people just post really funny pictures of one another from various seasons,’ Maisie, 21, laughed while talking at the Glamour Beauty Festival in London on Sunday.

‘I think there was a rule these do not go on Instagram… but I’m definitely going to put them on Instagram.’

Adding she felt the cast was ‘one big family’, the Arya Stark actress and tech entrepreneur, who recently launched social platform Daisie, recounted her bond with Lena Headey, who plays villainous Cersei Lannister in the long-running series.

‘I’ve been close with her a long time. When I first met her she didn’t have any kids and I was 12 years old and now she’s a mother of two. We’ve been with each other for these crazy times in our lives,’ she continued. ‘Knowing someone for a decade is huge and she’s always treated me like a grown up.

‘She always respected me on a real level and for that I’m so grateful.’

Maisie admitted the lengths the showrunners go to in making sure the show secrets are kept so airtight she was finding scripts were disappearing from her at midnight.

She’s told her mum the ending, which is sweet, but she’s careful to ruin it for the show’s diehard fans.

Because while we might feel like we want to know the ending, we really don’t – it takes the fun out it.

Which Sophie found out the hard way when she told her fiancé Joe Jonas the final curtain details.

The 23-year-old, who plays Sansa Stark in the fantasy epic, told Glamour: ‘I’ve just told Joe. But he’s so mad at me – he loves the show.

‘Well, I have to tell someone, otherwise I’ll burst.’

Game Of Thrones returns 14 April.

A look back at Jennifer Lopez’s past engagement rings as A-Rod splashes out on ‘$1m’ diamond ring

That’s a big ring – but how does it measure up? (Picture: Splash News and Wire Image and Jennifer Lopez instagram)

Jennifer Lopez became engaged over the weekend to boyfriend and overall lovely man Alex Rodriguez and she unveiled the giant sparkler he gave her on Instagram.

It will be her sixth proposal (she says), her fifth ring and her fourth engagement.

That’s a lot of diamonds, you guys.

All of her engagements have been with fairly high profile men so it stands to reason that her engagement rings have been a cut above the best, to say the least.

A Rod’s ring is modest in comparison to Hollywood but maybe that’s the point (Picture: /Invision/AP)

And because everyone loves a bit of vicarious living, we decided to do a run-down of her giant engagement rings, though most ended with a – what was it Gwyneth Paltrow called it? – ‘conscious uncoupling.’

Let’s start with the most recent (and what Lopez is probably hoping will be the final one): A-Rod’s ring.

The ring Alex chose for Jennifer is an emerald cut diamond literally a third of the length of her finger. According to Andrew Brown, President of WP diamonds, the ring ‘looks [to be] around 10 carats, likely an extremely good stone, VS in colour and clarity.’

Fashion expert Lauren McCawley estimates the ring is actually 15 carats and ‘could easily retail for $1million (£768,230)’ E! Online reported.

Woah. Still, while it’s not quite as much as Kim Kardashian’s $4.5million (£3.5m) piece of bling, it’s still a stunning piece of jewellery (and will still weigh her finger down, no doubt).

Love don’t cost a thing, ey?

During an episode of Carpool Karaoke With James Corden, the star admitted that she’s had some wild proposals.

She said: ‘I don’t want to compare one to the other.’ (Don’t worry, we’ll do that).

‘They were all pretty spectacular. They were nice,’ she added.

‘And then there’s some that asked me to marry them and I said no. I’ve been married three times. I’ve been proposed to five times.’

Her Saturday proposal from Alex now makes that number six. Here are the others:

Ojani Noa’s engagement ring (m. 1997-1998)

Her first marriage was to Cuban waiter Ojani Noa. The pair were only together for 11 months before they divorced, but not before then 44-year-old Noa bought her a diamond ring thought to have cost him a neat six figures.  According to reports, he proposed to the star with a $100,000 (£76,823) marquis-cut diamond ring on the dance floor.

Choreographer Cris Judd was the second short-lived marriage for the singer. She got together with him in 2000 when he was hired to direct her iconic music video for her track Love Don’t Cost a Thing.

He started the emerald cut trend when he proposed to the singer with a diamond ring worth some $100,000 (£76,823).

Though the pair had a long engagement, they didn’t end up marrying. J Lo had been left devastated after Ben called it quits in January 2004.

But before that, he’d splashed out on a pink 6.1 carat diamond ring from esteemed jewellers Harry Winston for a whopping $2.5million (£1.92m), according to ABC News.

But it was Marc’s ring that took the most expensive position…not that we’re counting or anything (Picture: Wire Magic)

When the father of her twins, Max and Emme, proposed to Jennifer in 2004, it was with what Yahoo estimated was an 8.5 blue diamond engagement ring from the same jeweller Affleck used – Harry Winston. The ring was estimated to be worth $4million (£3.5m) at the time.

She hasn’t revealed who the sixth proposal was from, which she had admitted to turning down. For reference, she dated backup dancer Casper Smart, Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs and she’s been linked with Drake. Hmm…

In comparison, Alex has only been married once before, to Cynthia Curtis from 2002-2008, and the two share daughters Ella, 10 and Natasha, 14.

Strictly Come Dancing have confirmed that they will continue to use Michael Jackson songs despite the backlash following Leaving Neverland.

Channel 4 aired the controversial documentary last week, following the relationships and alleged sexual abuse of Wade Robson and James Safechuck by the star when they were both children.

Since then, demand for his songs to be pulled off radio playlists has significantly increased, with rumours he had been quietly pulled from Radio One and future plans for Strictly 2019.

But Strictly have now said that they will still continue to use tracks from the star’s catalogue, and confirmed the BBC have no plans to remove Jackson from any of their broadcasting services and shows.

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘We consider each piece of music on its merits and decisions on what we play on different networks are always made with relevant audiences and context in mind.’

Jackson’s music has been used throughout the show’s 16-series run, most commonly Thriller – a regular feature on their Halloween specials.

Graeme Swann and Jeremy Vine both tackled the routine in their respective years, with all performers also taking it on for a group dance the year before.

Susanna Reid performed to Smooth Criminal, Kellie Bright salsaed to I Want You Back in 2015, and in 2014, the professionals did a performance dedicated to the star’s work with The Jackson 5.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC1 later this year.

Ant and Dec to step back from hosting Prince’s Trust Awards for first time in six years

For the first time in six years, The Prince’s Trust awards won’t be hosted by the dynamic duo of Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the two will now pass on the torch to Phillip Schofield, 56, and Fearne Cotton, 37.

It comes after the presenters’ reunion after Ant, 43, returned to the spotlight following a year off to recover from treatment in rehab. No doubt the duo are busy on building up their brand again and as the event is now taking place a week later than usual, a clash has occurred.

Ant and Dec built up a close relationship with Prince Charles and the Prince’s Trust over the years (Picture: Getty Images)

A statement from Ant and Dec’s reps to Metro.co.uk read: ‘The Prince’s Trust invited Ant & Dec to host the Prince’s Trust Awards, however due to the event taking place a week later than last year, this year’s date unfortunately clashed with commitments they already had in place.’

However, the two are still close with the organisation as it was added: ‘The long-standing Ambassadors of the Trust have recorded a special video message for the event this year.’

According to the Daily Mail, however, the conflict has left Dec, 43, ‘disappointed’ after forging such close ties to Prince Charles over the years.

‘They both treasure their royal connections, but Dec is particularly disappointed not to be hosting the awards show,’ a source told the publication.

‘He’s an ardent royalist and really values his friendship with the Prince of Wales.’

It was only last week fans were blessed with the first on-screen reunion of the pair in a year, with the release of the fresh Britain’s Got Talent teaser for the 2019 season.

A clip for the ITV series – which is returning to screens next month – shows the presenters doing what they do best, organising the chaos around them.

Dec kicks the whole thing off by attempting to conduct an orchestra, before dropping his baton – which Ant rushes to pick up for him, reuniting the pair.

Judge Alesha Dixon, 40, hinted things were emotional as Ant got back to work alongside his long-running comrade.

During an appearance on Loose Women, the singer explained: ‘We’ve worked together now for seven years, I think this is my eighth series, and when we get together it feels like a family vibe in the studio.

‘It just feels good and it’s felt great. Everyone’s being naughty and being themselves.’

She continued: ‘The more you work with people the more you build relationships and the more you care about each other as people.’

Britain’s Got Talent returns to ITV in April and The Prince’s Trust National Awards will take place on 13 March.

Drake provides budget-friendly gig as he crashes £25 Fredo concert in Manchester

Drake surprised fans after he appeared at a Manchester concert by British rapper Fredo – delighting fans who paid 25 quid for the gig.

The Canadian singer is opening his Assassination Vacation tour at Manchester Arena tonight, but he couldn’t help but hype up local fans with his impromptu appearance a day early, as the God’s Plan singer joined Fredo on stage at his sold-out show at O2 Ritz Manchester.

He crept onto the stage during Fredo’s performance on Saturday night, and the crowd went absolutely wild when they realised who it was. He then went on to tear up the stage with his song Nonstop from his album Scorpion.

The O2 Ritz tweeted out a clip of the moment he appeared on stage and effortlessly whipped the crowd into a frenzy.

‘.@Drake just popped in to perform with @fredo – absolutely mental,’ the venue wrote.

People online were ecstatic, and others pointed out how lucky the crowd was to get such cheap tickets to see Drake perform.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘NAHHH, imagine paying £28 to see Fredo and he brings out Dave and Drake.’

Another added: ‘People actually paid £25 to see Fredo and he bought Drake out…meanwhile I’m paying £150 to see Drake.’

Ticket prices for Drake cost hundreds of pounds – and even more if you’re getting them through a resale website. Still, fans would still pay it.

‘Idc I’d still pay that £135 to see him,’ one fan quipped.

Drake will be kicking off his tour with two consecutive shows at Manchester Arena.

The 32-year-old will be playing 24 dates across the UK and Ireland, including a mammoth six days at London’s O2, and he will be supported by fellow rapper Tory Lanez and BBC 1Xtra DJ Tiffany Calver.

He will also be hosting gigs in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Star Wars fans finally given Han Solo and Luke Skywalker reunion thanks to Mark Hamill

Our hearts (Picture: WireImage)

Finally, there is some justice in the world, after Mark Hamill provided Star Wars fans with a sweet reunion between Han Solo and Luke Skywalker.

Mark, who plays Luke in the long-running epic, shared a moment with Han actor Harrison Ford, encouraging us to pretend it was between their characters, and it’s got us well and truly in our feels.

After we were denied such a reunion in the Star Wars films of late, Mark came to the rescue over the weekend, with a shot of the two legendary actors embracing.

Mark wrote alongside the photo, taken last year: ‘What a Han/Luke reunion might have been like…’

The wrath began when fans were denied such a moment back in The Force Awakens in 2015. The two were kept apart and Luke wasn’t able to give his buddy a goodbye when Han met his premature end at the hand of Adam Driver’s Ben Solo.

Mark’s sweet gesture, albeit an IRL photo from a Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony, had fans cheering on this duo.

‘This is more touching than anything the movies can show,’ one emotional fan wrote, as many, many others blasted the showrunners for choosing to shun any sort of reunion or link-up between the two in the following films.

Back in the fictional world, Luke was chilling on the planet of Ahch-To after being cut off from Force – and only heard Han was no more from Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi two years later.

We later found out in the final cut of the flick that made it to screens, a scene of Luke crying for his late mate in his hut was also left on the cutting room floor by Rian because we can’t have nice things.

Luke himself was pretty peeved we didn’t get that sweet reunion with the ‘old guard’, even though he totally realises it’s all about the new frontier of the franchise.

‘I just thought, Luke’s never going to see his best friend again. You look at it in a self-centered way,’ he told Den of Geek recently.

Film, "Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hope" (1977) Actors, from left, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and Harrison Ford as Han Solo, appear in a scene from Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hope," in this undated promotional photo. Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox announced Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, that the original three "Star Wars" films will be released on DVD on Sept. 21, 2004, in North America. (AP Photo/Lucasfilm, Ltd. & TM)...A...ENT...USA
Never forget (Picture: AP)

‘I said that it was a big mistake that those three people would never reunite in any way. I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care! I have to stipulate that I care, but it didn’t really seem to affect the larger audience.

‘Luke, Han, and Leia will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again.’

Woah, way to make this all too real for us, man.

Rian previously revealed the scene was cut for the purposes of pacing, but he does realise fans were keen for that moment.

‘We realised just for pacing in that section we had to stick with Rey and Luke, and we wanted just to go straight from him slamming the door of the hut into the day-in-the-life montage, of him going around the island,’ he said.

‘Taking that bit out suddenly propelled us forward into that segment in a way that just felt much better for the film.’

Still, he was ‘very sorry to lose it’ as he added to Entertainment Weekly: ‘I think it’s a beautiful performance from Mark Hamill. But I think we get a similar beat with him later when he’s in the Falcon with R2.’

Star Wars IX is in cinemas 20 December.

The Walking Dead boss teases ‘action and excitement’ from new season 9 villains the Highwaymen

The Walking Dead boss Angela Kang has teased the mysterious new group of villains called the Highwaymen.

In season nine episode Chokepoint Carol and Ezekiel read out a ransom note from the Highwaymen demanding payment for the use of the roads around the Kingdom. If they want to get to the fair, the group are going to have to pay up.

The teaser for the episode sees Ezekiel gear up for battle and tell Jerry to round up everyone who can handle themselves in a fight, which suggests that they won’t be making friends with this mysterious new group any time soon.

Kang told Entertainment Weekly: ‘They’ve got a giant obstacle that they’ve got to deal with, and they don’t know exactly what the script is like, or how much danger they pose. There’s going to be some action and excitement that comes out of that.’

Referring to the threatening letter the Kingdom received, Kang continued that the group’s ‘solutions’ to it ‘may be surprising’.

If that sinister group of blackmailers wasn’t enough to deal with, the Whisperers’ leader Alpha showed her dominance when she triumphed in a grisly leadership challenge in the previous episode.

Now we’ve seen how violent this clan can be, the show has hinted at a number of deaths in the rest of the season at the hands of the Whisperers.

Fans of the comic books know there is a bloodbath on the way, as in issue #144, Rick Grimes stumbles across a number of decapitated heads on spikes, put there by Alpha to mark the Whisperers’ territory.

They have already claimed their first victim in Jesus, who was the first survivor to be killed for crossing the border in the mid-season finale.

Ninja and JackSepticEye provide welcome break from PewDiePie and T-Series as they battle for YouTube subscribers

Ninja and JackSepticEye have struck up YouTube’s latest rivalry, and it’s giving fans a welcome break from PewDiePie and T-Series.

We’re pretty sure ‘sub to PewDiePie’ is branded into our brains now.

The battle between the pair began when the Irish gamer urged his fans to subscribe to his pal PewDiePie – real name Felix Kjellberg – to help him beat competitor T-Series.

However, fans quickly decided it was his turn, comparing his subscriber count to fellow gamer Ninja’s.

With both soaring above 21 million subscribers, things are pretty close.

And Jack – real name Sean McLoughlin – only added fuel to the fire when he tweeted a comparison picture, showing Ninja inching ahead by about 1000 subscribers.

‘Alexa this is so sad!’ he wrote.

Although his fans quickly sprang into action, with Felix even tweeting: ‘How can this be? That’s impossible?’, it looks to be a pretty short-lived battle, with Ninja flying ahead by 5000 subscribers at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, Ninja – real name Tyler Blevins – appears just a little less bothered about the whole affair, tweeting from his getaway in Poland.

‘At a place in Poland and they made me a cocktail called “the Ninja”,’ he marvelled to his fans in the midst of it all.

We aspire to be that level of chill.

However, while the 27-year-old’s flying ahead on YouTube, it was recently revealed that he lost 90% of his Twitch subscribers in just 10 months.

Back to JackSepticEye and the apparent task at hand, Sean has been a huge help to PewDiePie in his battle against Indian music label T-Series – even threatening to delete his own channel.

Outraged at the thought of his pal losing his top spot after six years, he began a live stream titled ‘SUBSCRIBE TO PEWDIEPIE’, urging his fans to help out.

‘For every bit the sub gap grows, my beard gets bigger and stronger,’ he joked. ‘You guys have the power to really make a change.’

The YouTube star’s move came after the subscriber gap dropped to the lowest it had been, with fans declaring it a ‘red alert’.

Who will battle for subs next?

Tom Hardy is every inch American gangster Al Capone in new behind-the-scenes images of Fonzo

Tom Hardy transformed into one of America’s most infamous gangsters recently, for a new role – and he appears completely unrecognisable in some fresh shots from set.

The Venom actor looked sinister as he posed for a photo on set of his new biopic Fonzo, directed by Josh Trank.

Hardy aged his face, wore crimson silk pajamas underneath a black and white striped jacket and sported slicked back hair and a receding hair line in the new take on the notorious figure.

Fixing the camera with a glare, he posed with his co-stars Jack Lowden and Neal Brennan.

In another behind-the-scenes image Trank shared on Instagram, Hardy wore facial scars and seemed to have put on a few pounds. The black-and-white photo matches a famous snap of the gangster, who had donned a striped robe, sported a gut and had a cigar hanging from his smirking lips.

Needless to say, Hardy is nailing the look.

The feature length film will be focusing on Capone in the latter years of his life, at the age of 47 when he suffered from dementia.

It will detail the 10 years he spent in prison, and the different – often retrospective – way his illness manifested.

Tom will play alongside Kyle MacLachlan, Matt Dillon, Noel Fisher and Linda Cardellini, who will play his wife.

While his transformation isn’t quite Bane-levels, 41-year-old Tom insisted it’ll be a change from his usual aesthetic.

He told the Daily Beast: ‘It’s not the classic Al Capone that you necessarily envision with the silhouette. I don’t want to give too much away about it, but there’s definitely a transformation with that role.

‘I don’t know if it’s as drastic as Bane. I’ve probably damaged my body too much. I’m only little! If I keep putting on weight I’ll collapse like a house of cards under too much pressure.’

Despite the fact that Capone was a notorious criminal, his personality and criminality continues to influence popular culture today, from his mannerisms to the way he smoked cigars – even his nickname ‘Scarface.’

A UK release date for Fonzo is to be confirmed.

10,000 BTS Armys earn greatest fan-base status as they gather in Seoul for epic anniversary celebration

A crowd of 10,000 ARMYs – the mega name for BTS fans – gathered at the Seoul Plaza this weekend, chanting and walking down memory lane as they watched concert footage and answered quizzes shown on a giant LED screen to build new BTS memories together.

We love some good old dedication to the fandom.

Run ARMY In Action is the first ARMYpedia offline event for fans and was held in Seoul on 10 March.

Pictures of the event show the massive crowd enjoying their joint love for the Korean boyband, as they chanted and screamed while watching the big screen.

Now, that is one big crowd (Picture: Armypedia)

Big Hit Entertainment said: ‘Run ARMY In Action is an event dedicated to ARMY for all the love that fans have shown for BTS.

‘It’s a meaningful experience and place for fans to share BTS’ message and memories together.’

And if you are crying into your pillow for missing this, have no fear, as the next offline event – ARMY United in Seoul – will be held on 23 March so that fans can continue reminiscing over the special moments of the boyband and ARMYs.

BTS are coming to the UK! (Picture: GC Images)

Still, if you couldn’t make it over to Seoul for this don’t worry, because the K-pop group are playing not one, but two dates at Wembley Stadium later this year.

While there’s 180,000 chances to get your hands on a prized ticket, of course, there’s always touts coming to ruin the party.

Fifteen minutes after tickets went on sale at 8.30am for BTS’s second date at Wembley last week, tickets began popping up on resale sites for nearly £2,000.

Metro.co.uk found that VIP tickets were being sold on Viagogo for £1,805 – that’s £1,575 more than the most expensive ticket available on Ticketmaster.

Other tickets on the resale site, which were next to the stage, were being sold for upwards of £1,600, with other seated tickets being priced at £900.

However, there were also tickets being sold for face value.

Viagogo previously told us: ‘Viagogo does not set ticket prices, sellers set their own prices, which may be above or below the original face value. Where demand is high and tickets are limited, prices increase.

‘The reality is that any tickets listed at silly prices rarely if ever sell. All tickets on Viagogo are valid and it is perfectly legal to resell a ticket or give it to someone else if you want to.’

Despite some non-ARMYs snapping up tickets, it seems a lot of fans were very happy on Friday as they managed to bag a ticket to see the IDOL singers in the flesh.

When Metro.co.uk tried to access tickets on Ticketmaster, we were repeatedly kicked out as the ‘connection’ was lost – however, many ARMYs learned from their mistakes last time and reported a much smoother process on the Ticketmaster app.

A second Wembley date was added due to insanely high demand, with BTS also playing Sunday 2 June after their first date on 1 June.

RM, Jimin, Jin, V, Suga, J-Hope and Jungkook – or should we say Jungkook hyung – sold out the 90,000 capacity stadium in just 90 minutes last week.

This is far from where the K-pop superstars started – as evidenced by an adorable tweet from 2014, in which they promoted a free gig for 200 fans.

Roseanne Barr blames Michelle Obama for her series being axed and not her offensive tweets

Roseanne thinks Michelle Obama got her sitcom spiked from the air (Picture: Getty)

Roseanne Barr is definitely still feeling stung by her axing from her show last year – and now thinks Michelle Obama is the one behind her being cut.

The actress’s sitcom was yanked from the air last year, and a spin-off put in its place, after she branded White House adviser Valerie Jarrett as ‘Muslim brotherhood and Planet of the Apes had a baby’ in a tweet.

In May, long-running show Roseanne was unceremoniously cut in the backlash, and seeing as its her namesake, a series starring all the characters, except hers, was created.

Blaming Michelle’s connection with Netflix, Roseanne told The Sunday Times Magazine: ‘She said, “This tweet is unforgivable.” That’s what I was told and I tend to believe it because the woman who fired me is now working with the Obamas at Netflix.’

She had previously claimed she recieved such a backlash because she was a Trump supporter.

In the days and weeks following the tweet being posted online, Roseanne claimed that she was hacked, and later defended the tweets content saying that she ‘thought the b**** was white’ when she was accused of the comment being racist.

Roseanne’s series was hugely popular but it wasn’t enough to stop her being dropped (Picture: Getty)

Either way, she was dropped from her management company ICM and then her series followed shortly after.

The Conners follows life with the family after the matriarch died of an opioid overdose (so basically…no going back).

At the time of Roseanne being cancelled, it was more popular than the Big Bang Theory for ABC.

‘They think because they killed me it’s OK to use me, use the memory of me,” she fumed. “Still mention me,’ she said. ‘It’s still my show, but they stole it. They are going to do it to other comics. I’m just the first.’

Her latest comments come after it was revealed that she branded all MeToo Victims ‘hoes’ and defended Louis CK over accusations he masturbated in front of women.

Speaking on The Candace Owens Show, she said: ‘If you don’t run out of the room and go, “Excuse me, you don’t do that to me”, and leave, but you stayed around because you’re like, “Well, I thought maybe he was going to give me a writing job”, well, you aren’t nothing but a hoe.’

On the Louis CK scandal, Candace told Roseanne: ‘I was reading an article, “We were in hotel room at 3am in the morning”. My first question: what the hell were you doing in his hotel room – what happens at 3am in the morning in a man’s hotel room?’

‘They’re pretending that they didn’t go to trade sexual favours for money,’ Roseanne responded.

James Charles finally figures out daylight saving and it’s left him ‘bamboozled’

He’s sister sussed it out (Picture: Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)

We’ve all experienced the shocking jolt of a late realisation and YouTube beauty guru James Charles is no different, as he was today years old when he figured out the mighty conundrum that is daylight saving.

He’s sister sussed it out.

The 19-year-old’s realisation came after he was highly unimpressed with YouTube pal Tana Mongeau’s negative attitude towards the time of year.

‘Daylight savings time legit just pissed me off,’ the 20-year-old tweeted. ‘Like I’m so fucking pissed give me my fucking time back @daylightsavingstime. [sic]’

In no uncertain terms, James replied: ‘No shut up dumb bitch now it’s gonna stay sunny for longer during the day!!!!! more time for instagram pics!!!’

Remind us not to mess with James and his love for daylight saving, please.

He later added: ‘After 19 years on this Earth I am JUST NOW realizing that daylight savings time is actually the reason that the sun stays out longer in the summertime…

‘I have been bamboozled and I would like to formally apologize for my slander of this sacred holiday that we must protect. [sic]’

However, fans were less than understanding, with one tweeting: ‘Is this what sleep deprivation looks like’.

Another added: ‘Take a shot everytime u tweet about daylight savings.’

‘James the sun also stays out longer in summer due to revolution angles,’ one more viewer pointed out.

Let a sister live, guys.

And daylight saving wasn’t the only thing James had to be excited about (thank the lord for that), with him hitting 15 million subscribers on YouTube.

‘My mind is absolutely blown,’ he tweeted. ’15 MILLION sisters in the family. Thank you for your support every single day through everything. Let’s celebrate later, okay?’

It’s no secret that among the 15 million are some famous faces, with James previously making up Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner (we’re waiting with bated breath for Kris TBH).

However, his latest celeb client was rapper Iggy Azalea, who trusted the make up artist to glam her up for her Sally Walker cover shoot.

No pressure then, James.

Another social media user rightly pointed out: ‘Chris looks like the cat got the cream! Lucky man, and Jesy is a lucky lady too.’

They added in an apparent dig to Chris’s ex, Olivia Attwood: ‘Chris is so sweet, certainly deserves someone better and classier than that god awful woman he met on Love Island. Wishing you both a long, lovely relationship.’

Jesy and Chris made their romance official this week as he confirmed their love on Kiss FM’s breakfast show.

But the Love Islander might have some explaining to do with Jesy though, as the TV star was asked when her birthday was and said it was 15 June 1991 – it’s actually the 14th. Awkward.

While Chris is floating on cloud nine, his new relationship doesn’t exactly bode well for his bestie Kem Cetinay, who is worried he’ll be sidelined.

The Dancing One Ice presenter said: ‘I’ve never seen him like this, and we’re very close. I know we’ve only known each other two years.

‘But I’m a little bit worried… What happens to me now? Where do I go? He’s got a new love of his life, what happens to the old love? What happens to bromance? I’ve been pushed to the side!’

Kem shared his concerns about spending less time with Chris earlier in the week, saying on Good Morning Britain: ‘He seems really happy and that’s all that matters so as long as she doesn’t take him away from me too much, then I’m alright.’

Aww, what a lovely trio they make.
