When your parent follow you on Instagram, embarrassment is bound to ensue.

And it looks like celebrity parents are just as eager to mortify their kids on a public platform.

Leslie Mann decided to shade her daughter Iris Apatow over her make-up on Instagram, and it’s pretty brutal.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin star is mum to actress Maude, 21, and Iris, 16, with husband Judd Apatow, 51, and chose to call out her youngest daughter’s blending techniques after she uploaded a sibling snap.

Iris – best known for playing Arya in the Netflix series Love – bigged up her big sister as Maude went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to discuss her show Euphoria.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0jp0MyBZPh/

And along with the caption reading: ‘Go watch mud on @colbertlateshow!’, Iris attached a sweet picture with Maude.

While followers piled in calling them ‘beautiful’ and a ‘power duo’, the girls’ mum chose to give some constructive criticism about Iris’s make-up.

Leslie, 47, commented: ‘ Under eye concealer too light💋mom’ – with Iris biting back: ‘A text would’ve been nice.’

It’s all good though, because Leslie then left a string of heart-eye emojis to show that she thinks her daughters are beautiful, even if their concealer is a shade off.

Iris and Maude got their acting debuts alongside their mum as her daughters with Paul Rudd’s character Pete, playing sisters Charlotte and Sadie in Knocked Up and This Is 40.

Maude has gone on to appear in Funny People and Assassination Nation, and has filmed a role in the untitled movie based on Pete Davidson’s life, while she stars as Lexi in the critically acclaimed HBO drama Euphoria alongside Zendaya.

Meanwhile, Iris’s breakout role outside of her father’s films was as child star Arya in Love, who was taught on set by main character Gus.

But despite all their success on screen, the Apatows can still be shown up by their mum.

Parental embarrassment – the great leveller.

A photo showing the Game Of Thrones prequel cast together has circulated online, shortly after filming wrapped on the pilot episode.

The new spin-off series, provisionally titled Bloodmoon, takes place thousands of years before events in Game Of Thrones – with leaked shots from filming in Belfast and Italy providing our only glimpse at what to expect.

Cast members Sheila Atim, Georgie Henley, and Marquis Rodriguez have since been spotted hanging out together in a shot from behind-the-scenes.

The photo doesn’t feature some of the show’s stars, with Naomi Watts, John Simm, Miranda Richardson, John Heffernan, and Jamie Campbell Bower all set to star.

It’s unclear if Bloodmoon will even materialise into a real show at this point, with the pilot designed to test whether it deserves a full series run.

Creator George RR Martin spilled some details about how it connects to Game Of Thrones, confirming House Lannister won’t be featured but you can expect some Starks loitering about.

Bloodmoon is penned by screenwriter Jane Goldman and George RR Martin, with an official synopsis reading: ‘Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age Of Heroes into its darkest hour.

‘And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westero’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.’

The Game Of Thrones prequel is scheduled to be released in 2020.

Harry Styles answers age-old mystery of what he smells like in bed and we’re not disappointed

There are some questions that man has been asking since the beginning of time – one of which is ‘What does Harry Styles smell like?’

Don’t tell us you haven’t thought about it.

The Sign Of The Times singer, who’s recently been in talks to join the cast of The Little Mermaid as Prince Eric, gave fans the answer to the age-old mystery after he starred in Gucci’s new Mémoire d’une Odeur fragrance campaign.

Ever the deep and meaningful guy, Harry chatted away about how scents can lead to a ‘triggering of memories’.

‘I like a fragrance that has some emotion behind it,’ he explained. ‘The triggering of memories from smell is really strong for everyone.

‘My mother has always worn the same perfume. It smells like roman candles and jasmine. So like anytime I smell it, I feel like a kid again. I feel like everyone has those,’ Harry added to Dazed.

When asked if he wears the fragrance, the 25-year-old insisted he wears it ‘all the time,’ before adding: ‘I sleep in it.’

We’re not quite sure what to do with this information.

It’s not a surprise Harry smells great, after he and the cast of Queer Eye look to be hanging out lots. Seriously, would Jonathan Van Ness have it any other way?

Back in February, Bobby Berk, the design expert of the five, shared videos on his Instagram Stories of him and fellow Queer Eye star Karamo Brown chilling with the Sign Of The Times singer before belting out a few tunes, including Bohemian Rhapsody. As you do.

Meanwhile, more recently, the Fab Five revealed they’d introduced the singer to Grindr. Can you believe?!

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Karamo piped up: ‘I can tell you this, one of the people who was out there with Bobby and I, taught Harry, showed him Grindr.’

He beamed: ‘He had never seen Grindr before, it was his first time, and it was kind of cute that this straight guy was like, “There’s an app where you can just find a date?” I just thought it was really cute.’

As for what it’s like to hang out with the man himself Bobby marveled: ‘Harry was absolutely lovely.

‘Super sweet guy, super chill – I mean who else would you want for a karaoke partner?’

Money Heist 3 smashes Netflix records as 34million tune into new episodes

Netflix’s Money Heist has smashed all-time records for the streaming service after being viewed more than 34million times.

In just seven days as well.

Announcing the success of the show online, Netflix revealed that 34,355,956 accounts had tuned into the third part of the Spanish-language series within the space of a week.

Called La Casa de Papel in Spanish, the name was adjusted for English-speaking audiences to Money Heist back before season one launch.

Officially one of the most-watched Netflix series or film of all time in any language – and the highest non-English speaking show ever.

So if you haven’t watched it yet, we’re pretty sure we know what you should be binging this weekend.

Speaking about the achievement, director Diego Ávalos said: ‘We are proud of bringing stories that are made in Spain, to the world.’

Money Heist
Pretty sure we’d look this happy too if we pulled off what these guys have (Picture: Netflix)

‘It has been loved by fans all around the world because of the authenticity and originality of the storytelling,’ he added.

The series started with El Professor, who starts collecting con-artists and criminals together to pull off the ultimate heist of the Royal Mint of Spain.

Over the course of the series, people and the police get manipulated in order for the mission to be completed.

Part three kicks things up a notch as the team have to free one of their own after he was captured.

Picture: Netflix Netflix's Money Heist is breaking records
The Spanish series is a complete game changer (Picture: Netflix)

Part 4 of the show has already been given the green light, and so after an explosive season finale (no spoilers), there are a lot of questions to end.

It is expected to drop at some point in 2020, and it’s not known if the series will continue beyond this.

Originally, it was due to end after season two, but fan demand gave the show new life.

Speaking about the show’s future, producer Alex Pina said: ‘It was a complicated pulse, there were many reasons not to return. On the one hand, it was a short and concluded series about a robbery.

‘On the other hand, the protagonists end up being millionaires and putting them together for another robbery seemed something remotely impossible, but we realized that this was a band with different characteristics than we see in the stories of perfect robberies,”

Can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

La Casa de Papel / Money Heist is available now on Netflix.

Kanye West is building dome-shaped houses for his Yeezy Home project and it looks like the set of Star Wars

Aerial shots of Kanye’s West social housing project have revealed the dome-like design being used by the rapper and his team (Picture: SWNS)

Kanye West is a self-proclaimed visionary so it almost makes sense that his social housing project would look more like a scene from Star Wars than your normal housing estate.

The rapper has been working hard on making YEEZY HOME a reality and fans have finally had a chance to take a peek at what construction looks like so far.

Shots taken from the project’s building site in Calabasas Hills, California, pretty much confirms that the people who end up living there might be left feeling like their homes are out of this world.

So far the project consists of three wooden spaceship-like structures which are close to where Kanye and wife Kim Kardashian own a $60 million (£49 million) mega-mansion.

And the Golddigger hitmaker almost seems to have taken inspiration his affordable housing design on Luke Skywalker’s childhood home in George Lucas’ Star Wars series.

The domed buildings, which are still under construction, bear a pretty striking resemblance to the Star Wars hero’s igloo-like home on the planet of Tatooine in Episode IV – A New Hope.

And the otherworldly vibe continues with the interior of the homes as well. Back in June 2018, the raper gave the first look at the minimalist design for the project.

As HypeBeast reported, the homes will be made of prefabricated concrete components, with the aim being that the completed houses will be available and affordable to those on low incomes.

Designers working on the project include Jalil Peraza, Petra Kustrin, Nejc Škufca and Vadik Marmeladov – as well as Kanye himself.

The first-look at the interior of this housing project came in the form of three promo pictures, with the look of the living quarters said to be inspired by the design aesthetic of the YEEZY Studio in Calabasas.

There’s no word yet on when these projects might be up and running, but we’re sure that the waiting list to be one of the first people to live in the YEEZY HOME projects will be pretty lengthy.

Kanye previously called out for creatives to join his team so they could help make ‘the world better’.

‘We’re starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better,’ he wrote.

It’s not yet known when residents will be able to move in but we bet houses will be snapped up real quick.

Julianne Hough has bared all about her journey to have a child, and the moment she told her husband that she was ‘not straight’.

The dancer and actor stripped off for her Women’s Health photoshoot, showing off her incredible skills on the aerial silks (who knew she could do that too?!) as she revealed the past couple of years have been full of self-discovery.

She was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2008 – a painful condition which can affect a woman’s ability to conceive – and recently revealed she was undergoing IVF in order to have a baby.

Julianne, 31, and her husband, professional hockey player Brooks Laich, started the process in June and she says she’s positive about it: ‘I’ve always put it out there that it’s going to be okay’.

She revealed that the past year has been a process of finding herself, explaining: ‘I was connecting to the woman inside that doesn’t need anything, versus the little girl that looked to [Brooks] to protect me.

‘I was like, “Is he going to love this version of me?” But the more I dropped into my most authentic self, the more attracted he was to me. Now we have a more intimate relationship.’

So intimate, in fact, that Julianne admitted something even her husband didn’t previously know about her sexuality.

She decided to bare all for the shoot to feel ‘free’ (Picture: Brian Bowen Smith / Women’s Health)

She explained: ‘I [told him], “You know I’m not straight, right?” And he was like, “I’m sorry, what?” I was like, “I’m not. But I choose to be with you”.

‘I think there’s a safety with my husband now that I’m unpacking all of this, and there’s no fear of voicing things that I’ve been afraid to admit or that I’ve had shame or guilt about because of what I’ve been told or how I was raised.’

Julianne also says she chose to do the nude shoot because she didn’t want to do something ‘demure’ with her body covered up, instead choosing to be ‘free’ – and by the sounds of it, she’s embracing that ethos in every other area of her life, too.

The full article is in the September 2019 issue of Women’s Health, available from 13 August.

Rita Ora believes her sex appeal oozes out of her pores and says ‘I really rely on that’

Honestly, if we looked like Rita we’d give up wearing clothes entirely (Picture: Jo Hale/Redferns)

Rita Ora has revealed that she ‘really relies’ on her sexuality and sex appeal.

The singer and former X Factor judge believes that it’s entrenched in woman’s being and that she also relies upon it to help her decide what to wear.

Speaking with Virgin Ireland’s as part of the Xposé beauty series, the 28-year-old singer spoke about the driving forces behind her fashion choices, saying: ‘I think that as women we naturally use sex appeal and I feel like that just comes out of our pores whether we see it or not.

‘I really rely on that, I really rely on being a woman.’

The Let You Love Me singer has always been one to impress with her fashion choices – whether on a red carpet or Instagram – and said that she sees fashion as an expression of her freedom.

‘I look at it like beauty and art,’ she said.

‘I make the most of my choices, and even of showing my sexuality because I find it so empowering.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/BzWO6udF8sM/

However, proving her down-to-earth nature, the stunning star revealed that even she has some reservations when it comes to clothing, although she is working to get rid of them.

‘I would like to have no boundaries. I would like to feel like I can wear anything and everything,’ she said.

‘I’ve always believed that you have so many incredible, beautiful people in the world that have that doubt like, “oh I can’t pull that off,” “here’s no way in hell I can wear that”, [but] you just don’t know unless you try.’

Rita is known for her bold and sexy outfits, but they can sometimes err a little on the confusing side for fans.

While appearing at Soccer Aid in June, the singer had us scratching our heads after performing live while sporting a white cut out top and a pair of one-legged jeans!

Now we hate to sound like our grandparents, but we have some questions.

Where’s the rest of her top? What happened to the other jean leg? Isn’t she a bit cold?

Still if you’ve got it, flaunt it and Rita DEFINITELY has it.

R Kelly has pleaded not guilty to child pornography and sex trafficking charges, at a hearing in New York.

The Ignition singer has also been denied bail during his appearance at Brooklyn Federal Court, and will be returning to Chicago.

According to Variety, Judge Steven Tiscione referenced the 52-year-old’s alleged ‘multitude of crimes spanning from 1997 to 2018’, explaining they include ‘incredibly serious sexual abuse of minors, coercion, child pornography,’ and discussed his ‘access to financial resources.’

The publication states he ruled the star ‘cannot be relied upon to comply with the terms of a release’.

He has been accused of allegedly exploiting five victims – known only as ‘Jane Does’ – three of whom were underage at the time.

Sky News states the victims include one woman he met at his concert, and another who interned at a radio station he appeared at.

R Kelly
The singer has denied all allegations against him (Picture: Getty)

He allegedly arranged for some of the victims to meet up and have sex, following his performances on stage, before isolating them from friends and family.

It has been claimed he had unprotected sex with one victim, without telling her he had ‘contracted a STD’.

R Kelly – real name Robert Sylvester Kelly – has denied all allegations, with his lawyers branding the victims ‘disgruntled groupies’.

Documents obtained by Metro.co.uk state they ‘even fought each other for it, voluntarily contacted him, came to his shows, pined to be with him…

‘Mind you, evidence will show that the Robert Kelly tours and shows would accommodate both male and female fans with access to the singer, picture taking, meet and greets, fan events, backstage passes and the like.’

R Kelly
Kelly could face up to 30 years in prison if found guilty (Picture: WireImage)

The documents go on to address claims that Kelly passed herpes onto one of the women, something he denies.

‘Currently there is zero evidence that Robert has herpes, knew he had herpes, or knew he could have herpes and recklessly conducted himself,’ the papers state.

‘All that exists is a disgruntled groupie who alleges she has herpes and got it from Robert.

‘There isn’t even testimony where she is asked if she had any other sexual partners over that same year period or any time thereafter, but before she was diagnosed with herpes. This is no evidence at all.’

If found guilty he could face up to 30 years in prison.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for R Kelly for a comment.

Jada Pinkett-Smith reveals Jordyn Woods feelings about Red Table Talk

Jordyn Woods’ appearance on Red Table Talk in March gave the model the chance to change the narrative surrounding her Tristan Thompson cheating scandal.

And Jada Pinkett-Smith has admitted that the model was thrilled with how the interview went, despite Jada’s fears that she wouldn’t be able to help the model speak her truth at a time when she was being bashed by Kardashian fans.

Speaking at the London screening of Red Table Talk in London on Thursday, the Matrix star opened up about why she had initially been hesitant to have her close family friend on the show.

‘Having Jordyn on the show was a process. At first, I was very weary because I didn’t think I could do her justice as I was so close to her and I’m so new,’ the 47-year-old explained to host Clara Amfo. ‘I was like Will… “She’s got one f***ing shot. I can’t f*** this up! There has to be somebody else who can do this”.’

The actress continued: ‘At that particular time, it was still tense and then certain things were transpiring behind the scenes so I was like “We have to go to the table.”

‘I was like, “She has to have an opportunity to speak her peace!”‘

Jada went on to admit that being the one to question Jordyn about her alleged actions with Khloe Kardashian’s baby daddy was harder than she anticipated.

‘It was a learning experience for me because I had to keep my heart in it because Jordyn is like a daughter to me,’ she mused. ‘But then I also had to have an objective point of view. I had to be able to see it from every angle. And that was tough.

‘I had to not to go in all “rah, rah, rah” – but to go, “okay, let’s hear your story, but let’s also have compassion for the other side”.’

The actress added: ‘There was a lot of dynamics that were playing during the interview. Maybe one day we can talk about it more deeply because it was a fascinating moment.

Jada admitted that her husband Will pushed for her to give Jordyn the platform to shareher ‘truth’ (Picture: Red Table Talk)

‘It was a deep learning experience for me too. Especially having the responsibility to look at things objectively. In life you have to look objectively, it has made me look at everything different.’

Thankfully, the Girls Trip actress’ hard work paid off as Jordyn couldn’t have been happier about the way the interview went.

‘She was happy, so I was happy. You feel me? As long as she felt as though we did right by her, I was happy,’ Jada admitted. ‘That’s it. But at first, I was like “Will, I can’t do this”, and he was like Oh yeah you can and you will.” And certain things happened so I said, “I must!” ‘

Red Table Talk returns to Facebook Watch with new episodes airing in September.

Vanessa Hudgens showed that good things come in pairs as she cuddled up with an adorable dog at the launch of the Weedmaps Museum of Weed in Los Angeles.

Wearing a seriously dope black off shoulder top with puffed sleeves and bold wide leg trousers, the 30-year-old actress was tough fashion competition for Bentley the Pomeranian.

The pup looked suave in a miniature jacket, silver bowtie and glasses.

Honestly, we’re not sure whose stylist we want to dress us more.

Vanessa was joined at the launch of the museum, which features interactive exhibits about the history of cannabis use in the U.S. and beyond, by a host of stars including Ashlee Simpson.

Ashlee looked chic in an oversized red silk shirt and black thigh high boots, enjoying the museum’s wonders with husband Evan Ross.

She’s still killing it (Picture: COLLIER SCHORR for Vogue Italia, Getty)

There’s a reason Claudia Schiffer was one of the most sought-after models of the ‘90s and she’s definitely still got it as she revealed her latest Vogue Italia cover.

The supermodel stripped off for the cover, taking the shot herself, and basically taught us all a lesson in how to take a selfie – 25 years after her last shoot for the magazine.

While we’re still struggling with getting our front camera far enough away to catch a flattering angle, Claudia put her years of modelling experience into practise with this stunning full-length shot.

The 48-year-old posed for one shot in nothing but a blazer and heels, and covered her bits with a clutch bag and pair of shoes in another shot.

The shoot was a tribute to the legendary photographer Helmut Newton, who often had his models take charge of their own images and was supervised by photographer Collier Schorr.

Collier shared a photo of the shoot on Instagram, praising the model for the stunning snaps.

Claudia took this picture herself and we’re in serious awe (Picture: COLLIER SCHORR for Vogue Italia)

‘Because of who I am and who they are, I think these shoots are about women’s acknowledgement of their own sexuality, and is very different to the representation of desire, which is always connected to the maker of the picture,’ the photographer wrote.

‘I think this was about [our] relationships with our sexualities and bodies, and about being seen as older women.’

Claudia added: ‘In several cases I took the picture, obviously after it was prepared by Collier.

Pink is not a fan of mum-shamers who attack her on social media, and she’s even less fond of them attacking her fellow celebrity mums.

The fiesty pop star decided she would show her support for Jessica Simpson after the star was trolled for letting her daughter dye her hair and she did it with a typically rebellious move.

The 39-year-old – real name Alecia Moore- shared a photo of her daughter Willow Sage, eight, getting her hair dyed blue in response tpo the backlash Jessica received for letting her daughter Maxwell ‘Maxi’ Drew, seven, dye the ends of her hair purple.

‘I heard people were bummed on Jessica Simpson for letting her seven-year-old get her hair colored,’ Pink captioned the snap. ‘So we thought we’d share what we did yesterday.’

She then ended with a slew of sassy hashtags: ‘#bluehairdontcare #getyourownkids #parentpoliceareactuallyjustlonelysadpeople #illdyeyourhairtoolosers #ohlookmanocomments.’

Days earlier Jessica was slammed by trolls after she shared a snap of Maxwell in the salon chair with foil wrapped around the tips of her hair, as well as the final result which saw her with a pink and purple balayage style.

But fans were quick to comment and suggest that the girl was too young for her hair to be ‘ruined’ in this way, with one even deciding to claim that Maxwell looked ‘so much prettier’ before.

‘Isn’t she too young to have her hair dyed?’ and ‘So sad to see a child this young getting her hair dyed’ were just two of the comments left on Jessica’s account.

‘She looked so much prettier with her natural golden locks. She still should be a child in every sense. That time is short,’ added a follower while another comment read: ‘Why start ruining her hair so young?’

‘Don’t like it at all !!! Much better before the colour. The new colour make her look older than her age,’ was also shared on the page.

However, others defended the decision and reminded people that hair grows out and it’s not the first nor the last time young children will want to dye their hair.

‘For everyone freaking out over a little colour on her ends, remember us 90’s kids taking highlighters to our hair at school?!’ read one comment.

‘She looks adorable and I’m laughing at all of you clutching your pearls because of hair dye. Your poor kids must have the most boring lives!’ joked another comment.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare – do you like what you hear?

The Evening Inbox suggests the best Metal Gear game to play for newcomers, as one reader is upset at the quality of the Doom ports.

Breakfast king

I have to agree with the other readers, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is looking pretty impressive. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when Activision were deciding what to do about this year’s versions, as it’s clear it’s a pivotal one. Especially as there’s apparently been trouble at their developers and next year’s is looking like it might be a disaster or even postponed.

I think we definitely got the best deal as gamers though as with all the new features and modes I’m now really looking forward to the game and may even pre-order. My only concern is that the story is going to go too edgelord serious with its violence. Games can have realistic portrayals of war but that’s not something Call Of Duty has ever done. What it has done though is exploitative violence that isn’t in anyway realistic and I really hope that’s what this doesn’t end up being.

But assuming they doing go too OTT in that area I’m really looking forward to the big battles, which I hope will be commonplace for all first person shooters in the next gen. As others have said Call Of Duty is really eating Battlefield’s breakfast with this one and I can hope it encourages DICE to try even harder themselves.

Horror comeback

Here’s a bit of news I bet nobody expected to here: Sony are bringing back Forbidden Siren. It’s not clear how or why (even if you read Japanese) but the obvious guesses are either a remaster/remake or a new sequel. Any of which would be fine by me.

It’s a series that often gets forgotten when talking about classic era survival horror and while it did have its faults most of those were technical and could easily be fixed with even just a remaster. The atmosphere and setting fell just about straight between Silent Hill and Project Zero and I thought it handled the whole multiple characters things very well.

It’s a shame more games don’t take that approach actually, whether horror games or not, as seeing the same story from distant people’s perspectives is always interesting. Here’s hoping whatever the annoucement is it does eventually led to a brand new game.

Stealth access

Metal Gear Solid V is actually a great place to start. It’s very accessible and modern, doesn’t bog itself down in convoluted plot (and being a Metal Gear fan I love the crazy plots, but it can be a bit much for a newcomer) has brilliant action, and excellent base building/role-playing character upgrade system, and is, of course, easy to play on modern consoles. It’s quite unlike other entries in some ways, but it’s huge and there’s a lot to get your teeth into. Its plot was hobbled slightly by Konami forcing it to be released before it was ready, but again it’s not hugely obvious to a newcomer.

In terms of the best, most playable and the most Metal Gear-like Metal Gear Solid games, many fans would probably tell you it’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It has a cool sixties spy vibe, has interesting tech without being ridiculous, and has some great moments that match up with historical events. The gameplay is pretty much perfect and the camo index and stamina systems work really well without being too intrusive.

But a brilliant combination of the two above is Peace Walker. It immediately precedes Metal Gear Solid 3 in the overall narrative and is a very ambitious game for the PSP. Metal Gear Solid V is in many ways just a high-def version, just scaled up for a full home console release, and Peace Walker does all the same stuff just as well.

Both Metal Gear Solid 3 and Peace Walker will be tricky to play on modern consoles. Is the HD collection on PS Now? If not you’ll need a PlayStation 3, PS Vita, or PSP, none of which should be too tricky to get your hands on.

Deaf ears

RE: Microtransactions. Reviewers should automatically dock points from a game if it has microtransactions. A warning should also feature immediately below the headline in bold writing, stating the game includes microtransactions. If, in this case of Crash Team Racing, microtransactions are added after glowing reviews, the game should be re-reviewed with docked points. If someone is still deciding to buy the game, an updated review with a low mark can be ‘purely optional and not mandatory’ when making their decision.

If reviewing a game developed/published by companies with a track record of including microtransactions (can’t be too hard with the likes of Activision) a warning should also be included that the game’s status could be subject to change and microtransactions may be added at a later date.

It may not change much but unfortunately we can’t rely on members of the public to wise up. There is a thicko generation of gamers out there, mainly brought up on online-only games, who fuel the existence of lootboxes. Thanks to them they are ruining the industry for everyone else.
David

GC: We dislike microtransactions as much as you, and always highlight them if they’re particularly manipulative, but the truth is most people don’t care – or even actively like them. The success of the GTA Online casino is the latest proof of that.

Keeping it real

RE: Smokin_Monkey and esports names. That’s a fair question, it was a long time ago when I set up my PSN ID on the PlayStation 3 and we were advised to not use our real names online.

But if you are now going to be on the TV and everywhere else then there’s no hiding behind a nickname.
Jonathan Brannick
PS: Sony have allowed real name requests for a while and if somebody rejects a real name request then I don’t accept them.
PPS: There should be no reason for PS in the email copy and paste age. Long live GameCentral.

Low bar

Personally, I loved the Han Solo movie. To me It was more enjoyable than the prequels and The Last Jedi.

So far no one has edited it yet and released a fan made version (remember, you need to own the original before you see fan made films. Very grey area). But who could complain when Jar Jar Binks is removed and The Hobbit trilogy is shortened to just over four hours?

The fan edit of the shortened Last Jedi is also an improvement and none of these films I mention have been banned.
Ste C

GC: Maybe there’s no fan edit because people just don’t care enough about it?

Trying in Metroid-vain-a

Unfortunately, ‪I decided to stop playing Axiom Verge. I was enjoying it to begin with but too many of the deaths are feeling unfair and it gets too frustrating. It wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t have to play through loads of the level to get where you died.‬

Plus, the map is the worst I’ve ever experienced in a game.

Respect your elders

Interesting Doom ports that have just dropped on current generation. Picked up Doom 3 on the Switch and it’s remarkably good. True, the original isn’t a great game in its own right but the high quality port and the fact it’s only £8 for the game and all the expansions is something of a steal, especially by Switch’s usual pricing scheme.

Playing a game that brought many a PC to its knees back in the day on a handheld console feels great. In fact, the high resolution and frame rate make the game look and play significantly better than the Doom 2016 port, which even patched is a blurry, jerky mess. The Digital Foundry vid on them is worth a watch too, running through the many issues with Doom and Doom II.

While you can argue these minor issues don’t matter, how gaming treats its old classics kind of shows up the ‘will this do?’ attitude in the industry. I mean, can you imagine an anniversary re-release of Citizen Kane with a botched aspect ratio, poor sound mixing, and a film print that changes the lighting in some scenes? It just wouldn’t happen. If you’re putting out an old classic today they should be definitive editions showed the upmost respect.

Talking of old games I’ve spent the barren first six months of the year on Switch reliving gaming’s ‘glory years’ and have been loving it… from Ōkami, Katamari Damacy, Final Fantasy XII, and Resident Evil 4 (sale buys of course, I’m not crazy) to slowly working through Dark Souls and replaying Bayonetta in preparation for Astral Chain.

These games have aged remarkably well, especially the PlayStation 2 generation ports which I didn’t expect to hold up at all. Seriously, Resident Evil 4 is still as good as any action game released today, once you get used to the early era 3D controller jank.

I’m not really feeling this Hogwarts setting for Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I’d rather just get on with the battles. The idea is fine but there are too many characters and yet very few of them are memorable.
Feldwerk

Never mind Super Mario 3D World, I wish Nintendo would give Xenoblade Chronicles X a port to Switch. I was really disappointed by Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but the one before it was great.

This week’s Hot Topic

The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Gannet, who asks what’s your favourite fictional universe in video games?

Regardless of the quality of the games themselves what setting is your favourite and why? Is it a version of the real-world or something completely fantastical? Why do you think it works so well and how consistent is the universe between different games?

How much do you care about background lore in video games and what’s your preferred way of getting that sort of information across?

Simon Cowell recently raved about his 20lbs weight loss, after getting himself on a strict diet.

And the Britain’s Got Talent judge showed off his new look as he joined girlfriend Lauren Silverman at the opening of the Katie Piper Foundation Rehabilitation Centre.

The 59-year-old opted for his trademark white shirt – with several buttons undone as usual – paired with black trousers for the day out.

Well, if it ain’t broke, hun…

He couldn’t wipe the smile from his face as he posed for pictures at the launch – taking place at the Fairfield Independent Hospital, in Merseyside.

While Katie rocked a grey shirt and beige trousers as she visited staff and met with patients at the facility.

And Lauren added a pop of colour in a chic pastel pink trouser suit, coupled with a white blouse and nude heels.

The 42-year-old – who shares son Eric with Simon – got into the swing of things and even took a second to add a sweet message to the wall.

‘Stay strong…,’ she wrote. ‘You are beautiful.’

Simon recently made headlines after he opened up about going on a health kick – after he was hospitalised back in 2017.

And the X Factor judge revealed he has dropped 20 lbs after sticking to a vegan diet and swapping to healthy options – including low calorie alcohol.

‘I went to see this guy who’s very well-known,’ Louis Walsh’s pal told Extra.

‘And he said to me, after doing some blood work, “You can’t have red meat, dairy, sugar, bread or gluten”.’

When the doctor told him to also cut back on his alcohol, he continued: ‘And I did it and I stuck to it and it’s easy.’

Simon recently reunited with his ITV co-stars as they filmed for Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

However, despite the show not having aired yet, the winner accidentally leaked their good news as they posed for pictures with the trophy – leaving ITV bosses fuming.

But the gaffe has now been put down to their sheer excitement at winning the show.

‘I don’t think it was disrespect from the winners – in fact completely the opposite,’ a source told MailOnline.

‘It was over-excitement after picking up the trophy in front of an audience.’

Which is understandable.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions returns later this year on ITV.

Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and The Rock have Fast & Furious ‘fight contract’ to ensure none of them lose

If you’ve ever watched a Fast & Furious fight scene and struggled to pick out a winner, there may be a good reason for that – Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson are rumoured to have a ‘fight contract’ that ensures none of them lose.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the three male stars have contracts in place which make sure that they all have an equal number of punches and none of them comes off worse than the others during on-screen fights.

Their sources claim that Vin even came up with a ‘points plan’ assigning values to different fight moves to ensure everyone was on equal footing, which was eventually scrapped as it was too complicated to keep track of.

When asked whether vanity plays a part in the decision to make sure none of the lead characters comes off worse than the others, Fast & Furious producer Michael Fottrell said: ‘No comment… Of course it does!’

A Universal spokesman told the WSJ: ‘[The fights ensure] every character has their moment, and that all are seen as formidable opponents.

‘Each Fast & Furious character is a hero to someone watching, and we never forget that.’

Sources also report Vin Diesel’s sister, Samantha Vincent – who also works with him on the franchise – said: ‘He’s falling down right here. Is he going to get his licks back in?’

Fans of the franchise have noticed that fights tend to end due to something splitting the men up rather than with a clear winner, such as in Furious 7, when a helicopter fires a missile which opens up the ground between Jason and Vin during a fight.

It’s also been claimed that Jason likes to watch the fight scenes as they are edited to make sure he’s happy with how they look.

A post-production crew member claiming: ‘It’s like that old trope where an actor comes in and wants more close-ups. They want more muscles.’

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is out now.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Vin, Jason and The Rock for a comment.

A$AP Rocky released from jail in Sweden amid assault case

A$AP Rocky has been released from jail in Sweden a month after his arrest as he awaits the verdict of his ‘assault’ claims.

The rapper, 30, has been held by Swedish authorities since 3 July following a fight after two men refused to stop following him and his crew around the city, claiming A$AP’s bodyguard had broken a pair of their headphones.

Several celebrities campaigned against his imprisonment, including President Donald Trump who promised to speak to Swedish authorities to get him freed – and claimed his treatment was more severe due to his skin colour.

According to TMZ, the announcement that A$AP would be freed was met by cheers from onlookers, and he is now able to leave Sweden while he awaits the verdict, due to happen on 14 August.

The other two defendents are also free to leave.

Speaking in a press conference after his release, his lawyer said: ‘I want to let you know this is a great day for Rocky, Vladimir and David.

‘I had a chance to visit them while they were in jail. They showed a lot of grace and dignity. Those of you who watched the trial saw that, saw their demeanour in court, saw how well they performed under very trying circumstances over the past month. I’m proud of all three of them.

‘I just got off the phone with the President of the United States and let him know the men are coming home and will be back in America soon. He’s quite pleased with that result.

‘He’s very pleased they’re home.’

‘Tonight was a great night for Rocky, David and Vladimir, a wonderful night for their families who are reunited now with their sons,’ he added.

‘It’s a very good night for the United States of America, and for the Kingdom of Sweden.’

Rocky had shared video footage of the incident with his followers on Instagram, showing the ‘victims’ refusing to leave him and his team alone as he attempted to diffuse the situation.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzax42UnxN0/

Another video later emerged of the fight in progress, but his defence attorneys claimed the six seconds of footage was the only involvement A$AP had in the brawl.

His lawyers said of his release: ‘I want to let you know this is a great day for Rocky, Vladimir and David. I had a chance to visit them while they were in jail. They showed a lot of grace and dignity.

‘Those of you who watched the trial saw that, saw their demeanour in court, saw how well they performed under very trying circumstances over the past month. I’m proud of all three of them.

He added: ‘Tonight was a great night for Rocky, David and Vladimir, a wonderful night for their families who are reunited now with their sons. It’s a very good night for the United States of America, and for the Kingdom of Sweden.’

A$AP – real name Rakim Mayers – has been in jail since 3 July along with two members of his entourage, in connection with the physical fight in Stockholm on 30 June, but maintained that they acted in self-defence.

Celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Donald Trump have fought for his release.

They compared his four-week imprisonment to G-Eazy’s arrest for a fight in Stockholm – which doesn’t have a bail system – when the white rapper was released after a matter of hours, while A$AP was deemed a ‘flight risk’.

The President previously stated: ‘A$AP Rocky is a situation in Sweden.

‘Sweden’s a great country and they’re friends of mine, the leadership, and we are going to be calling, we’ll be talking to them, we’ve already started.

‘Many, many members of the African-American community have called me, friends of mine, and said “could you help?”.

‘I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky but I can tell you that he has tremendous support from the African-American community in this country and when I say African-American, I think I can really say from everybody in this country because we are all one.’

Selma Blair has thanked fans for their ‘humbling’ support during her public battle with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The Cruel Intentions actress has been publicly documenting her journey with her condition on social media, after revealing she had been recently diagnosed with the auto-immune disease.

A week after she shaved her head, she shared a picture with eight-year-old son Arthur, and a lengthy emotional caption to Instagram, thanking her 1.7 million followers for their continuous support and kind words.

‘It is darkest before the dawn and I am so deeply moved at how many people called or wrote or left comments after my last post,’ the 47 year old wrote in reference to the previous photo where she had spoken about her struggle with insomnia.

‘The old me was ashamed. Ashamed to be so transparent with vulnerability or fear. And I wanted to delete the image.

‘But you all changed that with your words of support. I was humbled. I couldn’t even read til now. Thank you. Thank you. Maybe I will print and put in a book for when I need it again.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0idTrUHEtP/

As mother to a young child with ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick, Selma went on to speak about her struggle to balance motherhood with disability.

‘I failed as a mum a million times yesterday. And Arthur was fine. The world didn’t stop,’ she wrote.

‘Thank you universe. I will get there. Have patience. Thank you. All of us. Be gentle. With ourselves and others. It is a wonderful feeling.’

Since facing her diagnosis, Selma’s frank and honest discussions about life with a degenerative illness have provided many people with their first insight into such a disease.

In February, the Legally Blonde actress appeared on the red carpet for the first time since her diagnosis at the 2019 Academy Awards and integrated her walking stick into her outfit.

Wearing a stunning rainbow coloured dress with a built in cape, Selma even sported a very special cane for the event.

On Instagram, the actress wrote: ‘This is love ?. @tombachik customizing my cane with my monogram and a real pink #diamond. How did I get so lucky?’

Former Twitch star Ninja has debuted his first ever stream on Mixer, and revealed that he’s racked up a massive number of subscribers already.

The 28-year-old – real name Tyler Blevins – announced this week that he would be leaving game streaming platform Twitch in favour of Mixer, and has played his first game today.

He revealed during the live stream that he had racked up over 370,000 subscribers on the site – despite not having yet played a game on that platform.

The Fortnite pro announced his move from Twitch to Mixer this week, staging a mock press conference in which he told his 4.6 million followers: ‘I know this may come as a shock to you but, as of today, I will be streaming exclusively on Mixer. I know. It’s exciting.

‘I’ve been holding on to this for quite some time, and I’m super excited to finally let everyone know, obviously.

‘I’ll be streaming on Mixer full-time now, and I’m honestly at a loss for words. I’m freaking out in the best of ways. I feel like I’m going to get back to the streaming roots, and that’s what it’s all about.

‘I love you guys, stream surge is going to be the exact same, so I’m looking forward to seeing you on the platform. Peace.’

Fans had mixed reactions about his big move, with some praising him for ‘changing the game’, while others were upset he would leave Twitch behind as one of the platform’s biggest stars.

A spokesperson for Twitch said: ‘We’ve loved watching Ninja on Twitch over the years and are proud of all that he’s accomplished for himself and his family, and the gaming community.

‘We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.’

Well, it looks like it’s already going well for Ninja over on Mixer – and that subscriber count is only set to skyrocket.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the next classic romcom to get remade as a TV show.

As reported by TVLine, the adaptation will take the same characters made famous by Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in the 2003 original film and situate them in an updated, contemporary setting.

According to the official synopsis, the show follows ‘a glib young online columnist and an oversexed advertising executive who both need to prove, once and for all, they’re capable of being monogamous.’

‘They soon discover, however, keeping a relationship is harder than Andie Anderson made it look!’

Written by Guy Branum for new, mobile-only streaming service Quibi, the series promises to provide a modern take on the much loved story.

Tweeting about the good news, the comedian and The Mindy Project writer promised that the adaptation would stay loyal to the original film.

‘We were all certain you could not make a good romantic comedy anymore because print media is dead and RomCom ladies have to work at magazines,’ he joked.

‘But against the tides of history, Quibi & Paramount have agreed to let me re-write How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.

‘I will be observing and consulting numerous photos of shirtless Matthew McConaughey to properly research this task.’

It seems like TV is having a serious nostalgia moment currently, as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days becomes one in a long line of 80s, 90s and 00s classics to be remade for the small screen.

TV series based on The Karate Kid, Heathers and I Know What You Did Last Summer have been put into development in the last few years, as networks try to recreate the magic.

We’re sure that Guy will have asked for some advice from his Mindy Project co-writer Mindy Kaling, who recently adapted Richard Curtis’ cult classic Four Weddings and a Funeral for Hulu.

Hitting the streaming service at the end of July, the series stars Game of Thrones’ Natalie Emmanuel as the romantic lead and puts a modern twist on the original film.

With so many remakes to choose from, we’ll soon be spoilt for choice.

If you see your love ferns perking up any time soon, you know why!
