She was all smiles as she reunited with her former flame, to celebrate pal Yewande Biala’s birthday in London, alongside her beau and a selection of their co-stars.
Yewande, who was dumped from the Island as Danny Williams coupled up with Arabella Chi, was thrilled to be back with her pals as she gave followers a glimpse into the celebrations.

After cuddling up to the winning couple, the scientist panned the camera across to show Michael joining in the festivities, with Anton Danyluk and Joe Garratt.
Thanks for the invite, hun.
This is thought to be the first time Amber and Michael have come face-to-face since the 27-year-old left Love Island, and went straight over to Joanna.
‘Yeah, I am surprised,’ she told Metro.co.uk after her win.
‘To be fair I didn’t see much of their relationship because I avoided watching it and how they were but Michael definitely tried to get back with me so that’s a bit weird.’
Amber was praised for ignoring Michael and instead picking Greg in the most epic recoupling moment in Love Island history.
And it seems she chose wisely, as they ended up smashing the final with a whopping 48.82 per cent of the vote, storming way past Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury in second place with 25.56 per cent.
Love Island Aftersun reunion airs on Sunday, at 9pm, on ITV2.

The professional basketball player, 39, hit back after his followers claimed his post about Sabrina was subtle shade at Khloe.
He wrote: ‘I’m a bit disappointed to read that people are using my words to enforce their own perceptions and assumptions pointing towards things that just are not MY TRUTH OR REALITY.
‘This post isn’t against anyone including my ex wife that I still respect deeply. I am just PRO love. Can I do that without people feeling offended? Why does that make you mad?
‘Our black women have been held down for centuries! I am now deciding to send them and my NEW WOMAN a lot of love.
‘My post goes out to the new leading woman in my life, that I’m gonna tell everyday how beautiful she is, from the inside out. Thanks @getuptoparrfor teaching me what real self value means. It changed my entire mindset. #woke’.
Fans had jumped on an earlier post, where he had shared a photo of his personal trainer girlfriend, alongside the caption: ‘“It’s just like when you’ve got some coffee that’s too black, which means it’s too strong, what do you do? You integrate it with cream… But if you pour too much cream in it, you won’t even know you ever had coffee.
‘”It used to be hot, it becomes cool. It used to be strong, it becomes weak. It used to wake you up, now it puts you to sleep.” – MALCOLM X #blackroyalty’.
They were quick to draw parallels between Khloe- who is of Armenian descent – and Sabrina, claiming the message had a hidden meaning.
Lamar clarified that the only meaning in the post was to show his appreciation to Sabrina and other black women, without any disrespect to Khloe or anyone else.
He and Sabrina had gone public with their relationship this week after the couple were spotted kissing in Atlanta, USA, on Friday.
Lamar and Khloe had got married in 2009, just a month after they met, and they filed for divorce in 2013 though it wasn’t officially finalised until 2016.
She helped him with his recovery from the incident which caused kidney failure, several heart attacks and strokes and left him in a coma and on life support before his recovery.

Sofia later shared a clip of the foursome hugging it out as they wrapped up filming.
She wrote alongside the emotional video: ‘Dear Cam, this one’s for you.’
But it was Dove’s sweet post that touched us the most, as she shared a screen grab from a group chat the four of them share.
Here the actors can all be seen sending ‘I love you’ messages to Cameron before the main event.
Dove recently spoke to Seventeen about their loss, and how they use their group chat as a coping method.

The 23-year-old told the publication: ‘It’s hard when there are no adequate words to express the pain we are all feeling, but the usual text is “love you,” or “are you eating?” Or “how are we all today?”‘
She added: ‘I think something like this horrible loss makes you realise how important you are all to each other.
‘I am grateful for my chosen family at a time like this.’
The new Disney Channel film paid respect to Cameron at the end of the movie in a moving two-minute video featuring clips of Cameron from over the years.
During the tribute, the screen read: ‘Everything you are. Every smile, every laugh, every dance, every hug, every moment, everyone you touched. You mean everything to us.’
It ended with a touching message on how to deal with grief, urging people to confide in their family and friends and be kind to themselves.

‘I don’t see or hear police or helicopters so hopefully it’s just an over abundance of caution and someone got the malls confused. so terrible.’
At this moment in time there are no reports of a second shooting, however, Mark later added: ‘update: police confirm report of a separate incident at bassett mall is incorrect.
‘We are still in our hotel. federal agent at the door to the building.’
Fans rushed to the post where they sent their well wishes to the group, and begged them to remain safe.

‘This is a tragedy that I’m having a hard time getting my arms around, frankly,’ Mayor Dee Margo said as his voice broke.

‘Working with State and Local authorities, and Law Enforcement. Spoke to Governor to pledge total support of Federal Government. God be with you all!’

Ariana Grande finally got to meet Jim Carrey this week (Picture: Rex/Getty)
We love Ariana Grande and we love Jim Carrey but their friendship is still one of the most random pairings in Hollywood – and it’s showing no signs of fading any time soon.
The Liar Liar actor thought the world of Ari too, saying at the Showtime Television Critics Association tour: ‘The admiration doesn’t just go forward to an older generation. It goes backwards as well.
‘She’s a single artist. She has a gift. She has a thing she does that’s like magic. When she opens her mouth and sings, it’s just magical.
‘It’s nice to find out that she’s a lovely person. She’s so game and willing to do it. She put herself in a place of just being silly and innocent and fun and she was just a breath of fresh air.’
The God Is A Woman star had shared a photo of herself cuddling Jim, captioned: ‘There aren’t words. I’ve been staring at my screen and no words do this moment justice.
‘Thankful for the most special experience of my life. Nothing is crazier than getting to work with and spend time with someone whom you’ve idolized and adored since before you could speak.
‘Actually, what’s even crazier is discovering that person to be more special and warm and generous in person than you ever could’ve imagined.
‘I get to make a tiny appearance on the hilarious and deeply moving show Kidding next season. This was a DREAM of an experience.
‘Thank you thank you thank you Jim and thank you Dave for having me. I have so much more to say but words actually can’t …. cover it.’
Ari, 26, has been a lifelong fan of Jim, 57, and it’s nice to see even global megastars get starstruck when they meet their idols, too!

Belle and Molly-Mae will come face to face again (Picture: ITV)
Molly-Mae Hague will address her alleged rift with Belle Hassan when the pair meet for the first time after leaving Love Island on the reunion show.
Belle told press after leaving the villa that she felt Molly-Mae was ‘two-faced’ and had ‘too many opinions sometimes’, and Molly-Mae responded by saying she hoped to speak to Belle in person.
That moment will come on camera on Sunday when the islanders reunite for what is sure to be epic scenes all round.
Tommy and Molly-Mae’s romance has come under the spotlight in recent days (Picture: ITV)
As well as Molly-Mae and Belle, Amy Hart will meet up with Curtis Pritchard for the first time since he pied her off in the villa and she made the decision to leave, while Danny William is set to come face-to-face with Yewande Biali and Arabella Chi, all in front of current girlfriend, Jourdan Riane.
Get the popcorn ready.

‘I like Molly and I really get on with Molly, but she can be too-faced unknowingly. She doesn’t mean it,’ said Belle amid viewers claims that Molly-Mae voted tactically to get her and Anton Danyluk dumped from the villa.
‘Personally, I think me and Anton are well suited. Again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you know what at the end of the day people see it for what it is.’
Belle Hassan and Anton Danyluk aren’t on the best terms with Molly-Mae (Picture: ITV)
‘When I was in the villa, I didn’t follow anyone, my management followed every islander. But on the outside, when I noticed Molly-Mae on my newsfeed, I unfollowed her,’ he explained to The Scottish Sun.
‘I have nothing against her, we just didn’t speak in the villa. We would be in the same room and wouldn’t say a word to each other.’
Anton added: ‘A lot of people think it’s because they voted us out but that’s nothing to do with it, we just never got on.’
Love Island: The Reunion is on ITV2 on Sunday at 9pm.
But the real winner is true love, right? This Sunday we’re set to catch-up with the couples away from the frolics in the villa, as the reality of life threatens to rain on their idyllic Instagram parade.
Things appear to be going well for Ovie and India, however, with the latter getting a lesson from Ovie’s basketball team who represent Great Britain in international tournaments.

India puts Ovie through his paces too in the kitchen, as he’s tasked with preparing food for her family in an adorable chef’s hat.
Caroline Flack is set to host the Aftersun special, which will reunite all 35 of this year’s Islanders under one roof with a studio audience.
The voice of Love Island, Iain Stirling, and DJs Sigma will also feature on the show, possibly to lighten the mood between the potentially awkward reunions.

Curtis Pritchard and Amy Hart are set to reunite for the first time after she left the show, while Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan will also set the record straight on those rift rumours with Molly-Mae Hague.
If that wasn’t enough, Elly Belly will also be in the studio. The true star of the show.

Love Island: The Reunion is on ITV2 Sunday at 9pm.
But, despite not putting anything on the gram, it seems the couple are still blissfully happy on their return to the UK.
A Love Island fan spotted the pair shopping up a storm in Selfridges, and exclusively told Metro.co.uk the 20-year-old boxer blasted the split rumours himself.
‘They looked quite cute together, they looked like a really nice couple. All the fake rumours aren’t true, they look so good together.
‘I asked about the split stories and Tommy told me it wasn’t true. He said: “We’ve been together the whole time. Everything is good.”
‘They were holding hands, and finishing each other’s sentences. It was really cute.’
A fan insisted the pair are ‘really cute’ and definitely still together (Picture: David Zelensky)
So that’s that.
Molly-Mae and Tommy have been hit with multiple split rumours in the handful of days they’ve bene out of the villa.
‘Tommy knows how I feel about him, I know how I feel about Tommy,’ she told us.
Molly-Mae previously hit out at fake rumours (Picture: ITV)
‘The Islanders know how I feel about him because we made it to the final, we made it through a lot of the Islander votes…
‘I think if I had been fake at all, we definitely wouldn’t have made it that far. The people that really matter to me know how I feel about Tommy, and that’s all that really matters at the end of the day.’
In fact, the doctor has tipped Tolly to last the longest out of all of this year’s couples.
When asked who he thought would go the distance, he told Metro.co.uk exclusively: ‘Tommy and Molly-Mae have the strongest chance of lasting, they’ve been together the longest.
‘They’ve developed a stronger bond, they’ve got probably the best chance, in my opinion.’
Love Island Aftersun reunion airs on Sunday, at 9pm, on ITV2.

The 46-year-old model and her 29-year-old husband threw a party to celebrate their nuptials on the luxury Christina O yacht, formerly owned by Aristotle Onassis.
And the lovebirds are in good company, as Princess Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier III hosted their wedding reception there – as well as Aristotle’s own wedding reception with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
TMZ reported in July that the couple had officially become husband and wife in February after obtaining a confidential marriage certificate in California.
Heidi told Entertainment Tonight about their wedding plans earlier this year, revealing: ‘We’re two Germans, it will be very organized and on time.

A source told People of the engagement: ‘They went to Mexico before their engagement, around Thanksgiving, and that’s when he started talking to the kids about his plans in secret and it was so hard for them to not tell anyone.
‘They were so excited and happy for their mum.

‘[On Cristmas Eve morning] Tom went to the kids and asked for Heidi’s hand in marriage and they said “yes”.
‘So Tom and the kids together worked on making a breakfast tray for Heidi that had coffee, flowers, and a ring box.
‘It was important for Tom to have the kids included in the whole thing, so they all brought the tray up to Heidi’s room and surprised her with breakfast in bed and then he proposed.’
Heidi was previously married to hairdresser Ric Pipino from 1997 until 2002, and Seal from 2005 until 2014.
While Tom had also previously been wed to Ria Sommerfeld from 2015 until 2018.

‘She is trying not to think about it – she just wants to get on with the divorce and continue to move forward but there are some demands, like her agreeing not to tell all about him.’
Alex and Paul met back in 2996 (Picture: Twitter)
Alex, 54, and Paul first met in 1996, when they worked together at a hotel in Cyprus, and got engaged just weeks later.
They got married in 1998, and later welcomed son Josh, in 2001.
However, it wasn’t to last and they confirmed their separation in a statement two years ago.
‘Paul was really angry when she told him it was over. He clearly did not see it coming,’ a source told The Sun.
Summer Monteys-Fullam dumped Paul over the NDA request (Picture: Rex)
‘She said she had been building towards this and that there was no future for them.’
The publication states he unblocked her soon after, however, and tried to win her back with ‘grovelling texts’.
Paul’s lawyer confirmed Summer’s refusal to sign the document, and their subsequent split, in a statement.
Paul and Summer started dating after his split from Alex (Picture: Splash)
‘I asked Summer to sign an NDA as is standard practice in order to protect Paul’s family and their private lives,’ he said.
‘Summer insisted that she had no intention of selling any stories to the press and declined.
‘I think that her refusal to discuss or sign it caused concern, understandably, so it’s not entirely surprising that they have gone their separate ways.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Paul and Alex for a comment.

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway will be back in 2020 (Picture: Getty/Rex)
Ant McPartlin will be returning to present Saturday Night Takeaway alongside Declan Donnelly after two years away from the show.
The show, which will return to ITV in 2020, was taken off air last year while Ant stepped back from several of his TV commitments following his arrest for drink driving in March 2017.
Ant’s mother was in the passenger seat of the car at the time and the presenter said outside court: ‘I let myself down, I let a lot of people down. For that I’m truly sorry.’
The 43-year-old took a whole year off work to focus on his health and recovery, even stepping back from presenting I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, as Holly Willoughby stepped in.
Dec was forced to present the final two shows of Saturday Night Takeaway on his own in 2017 while Ant took time off following the crash.

ITV bosses decided to rest the show this year while Ant sought help for his alcohol and prescription drug addiction but it is going to come back bigger than ever.
Sources told The Mirror: ‘There’s a real buzz around the show. It promises to be bigger and better than ever.
‘As much as Dec did a great job on his own, it just wasn’t the same without Ant.’
It will see Ant and Dec set sail for Australia but get lost along the way and caught in a storm.
Bring it on.

It’s been 30 years since the Jolly Boys Outing (Picture: Getty Images)
2019 marks 30 years since the Jolly Boys Outing first aired, and some of the Only Fools And Horses cast will be getting together in Margate to celebrate the anniversary.
The feature length episode, filmed in 1989, saw Del Boy reunite with his long lost love Racquel, who was working as a magician’s assistant to The Great Ramondo.
Del, Rodney and the gang headed down to Margate (try reading that without singing Chas and Dave’s Down to Margate in your head) for their annual ‘beano’, but the trip is plagued with disastrous events.
Rodney gets arrested after accidentally hitting a policeman with a football, their coach driver appears to get drunk and the coach eventually explodes into flames – so pretty much the day trip from hell all round.
To mark 30 years since the episode first aired, cast members including Denzil (Paul Barber), Marlene (Sue Holderness) and Mickey Pearce (Patrick Murray) will be doing guest appearances at Margate’s Dreamland amusement park throughout August.
Fans will also get the chance to see memorabilia from the much loved episode in an exhibition which runs throughout August and will feature appearances from some of the stars of the show, too.
Only Fools And Horses still has a legion of dedicated fans (Picture: Getty Images)
Although David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Del Boy and Rodney Trotter, won’t be there, the Only Fools And Horses Appreciation Society says there will be lots for fans to see.
Perry Aghajanoff from the society told the Daily Mail: ‘It feels right that the exhibition is coming to Margate with this being the 30th anniversary of the Jolly Boys’ Outing.
‘The episode is so popular and people really seem to still love it all these years later.
‘We’ve got a great variety of things for people to come down and take a look at as well as the cast themselves.
‘It’s a shame that David Jason couldn’t do it but if he ever turned up to one of these things it would be like the Beatles arriving!’
The exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 5pm from 9-30 August.

GameCentral readers reveal their favourite video game settings, from the world of Pokémon to the post-apocalypse of Fallout.
The subject for this weekend’s Inbox was suggested by reader Gannet, who asked, regardless of the quality of the games themselves, what setting is your favourite and why? Why do you think it works so well and how consistent is the universe between different games?
With so many long-running franchises to choose from there were plenty of different suggestions, but The Legend Of Zelda did come up a lot, along with the likes of Mass Effect and Fallout.
Trek Wars
My favourite by far is Mass Effect, which makes it all the more upsetting considering what’s happened to it since the end of the third game. But despite that ending, and what came after it, the experience of the original trilogy is one I treasure and have replayed many times before.
A lot of it isn’t all that original – mix of Star Wars, Star Trek, and other sci-fi classics – but since none of them have any decent story-based games Mass Effect kind of stood in for them all and added its own twists and new ideas. Most importantly it wasn’t bound to any of their existing lore so it could make things up that suited the game rather than having to work things round the other way.
At the end of the day though it’s the characters that make any universe worth living in and Mass Effect was filled with memorable ones, all of which you could interact with in a much more complex way than any other game. I love the whole trilogy and I really hope they can start a new one that’s set in the same galaxy. The whole idea of Andromeda was bad from the start – after all that world (universe) building why go and create another one, especially as it was clearly not as good. Trepsils
Broken world
I’m going to say Fallout for this. You might think that Fallout 76 would’ve put most people off its world but I think it just shows how appealing it is even when the game around it is not very good. In fact, I’d say the map in Fallout 76 is probably the best that Fallout has ever had. It’s huge but varied with lots of interesting details, and really deserves to have better gameplay to take advantage of it.
The regular Fallout games though are probably my favourites ever, and I never know whether to say 3, New Vegas, or 4 is my favourite. The post-apocalypse world idea is a bit oversubscribed nowadays but Fallout with its retro-futuristic vibe is still my favourite, even if it doesn’t make much sense – especially in terms of no one picking up all the litter in the last hundred years or so.
But Fallout 3 was one of the first open world games I ever played and I loved the setting, the characters, the freedom, the weapons… everything really. The problem for me is that nothing much has evolved in that time, including the graphics. The fact that it’s still fun despite that just shows how good a concept it is, but I wish Bethesda would get a move on and update it properly. Lobo
Landscape with character
My favourite world by far is Hyrule from the Zelda games. It’s the first answer that came instantly to mind but now I sit down to explain why I’m not sure, because Hyrule itself is very loosely defined and doesn’t really have much of a backstory or unique features in any of the games.
The reason I love it though is because of the quality of the games played in that world and how the world itself, from A Link To The Past right up to Breath Of The Wild, is always a big reason for that and so much fun to explore, with so many details and memorable characters and things to do.
Hyrule itself can look completely different from game to game but that doesn’t matter because the thing that’s consistent is that it’s so much fun as a backdrop for the games to happen in. More than ever with Breath Of The Wild it’s almost the main character of the games and that’s why I love. Onibee
I know which one I wouldn’t want to live in and that’s the GTA universe. The place may literally be Hell, where violence is around every corner and nobody ever really gets punished for it. Also everyone seems horrible and I don’t know that there are any ‘nice’ people there at all. It’s fun to play, obviously, but as a world it’s pretty bleak.
By comparison Red Dead Redemption (which is supposed to be the same universe, I’m never sure?) seems a bit closer to our in that there are actually some people in it that aren’t violent psychopaths. Some act like real human beings and the hundreds of hours I’ve spent in it has made me almost miss it when I’m not playing or am playing a similar game with a less convincing world.
It’s also policed a lot better than GTA, considering the number of people willing to dob you in to the sheriff if you commit murder, even by accident. And yet round the edges you can tell it’s still not our world, what with all the UFOs and vampires and everything. Gorf
Squids in
Since I imagine everyone is going to say Zelda and Fallout and things like that I’m going to go for Splatoon. Might seem an odd choice but I love how Nintendo has created a completely new world that has an actual backstory (did you know it was a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has made itself extinct?) and a really unique aesthetic.
Obviously the game itself is great but I think a lot of its success is down to the art design of the Inklings and other creatures and the general sense that the whole world and concept has been really well thought out and designed.
It immediately makes me wish Nintendo, and other companies in general, would create more new non-sequels more often because when it works out it’s much more interesting than something you’ve seen before. That said, I can’t pretend I’m not looking forward to Splatoon 3. Degrassy
Internal logic
It’s been mentioned quite a bit lately in the Inbox but Metal Gear is my favourite fictional universe in video games. I don’t that Hideo Kojima has ever talked about whether it’s supposed to be the real world that we just don’t see or if it’s literally another dimension or something but I love its mix of realism and sci-fi wackiness.
To me it’s a perfect sort of video game world in that the details, especially things to do with gameplay, like guns and stealth, are quite realistic but other stuff, like the bad guys and when you need a big robot for a boss battle are just whatever they need to be. I mean, not even the idea of the Metal Gear itself makes much sense (if all they are is portable nuke launchers wouldn’t you be better off with something a bit more clandestine than a giant hulking robot?).
I wouldn’t say it all makes sense in context but it all works in context to make some of the best games I’ve ever played, that you never know what’s coming next. I suppose they’re over now though, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Death Stranding is the same sort of thing. It definitely looks like it. Thorne
My favourite game world! Wow, what a choice. I won’t go through a list of favourites as some I have mentioned in other letters, but a strong cheer has to go to the world of Terranigma. A kind of a sequel to Illiusion Of Gaia and Soul Blazer, all three released on the Super Nintendo and developed by Quintet and Enix.
The game world is based on ours but with an alternative history and creation, but with similar myths and histories containing familiar geographical continents and locations.
The story starts off epically as you control a character called Ark in a top-down Zelda: A Link To The Past view, who has to resurrect the world and then evolve it into a modern and futuristic place. All this happens after its beginnings as a dark and desolate place – a savage and volcanic world.
As the game progresses, and after the trees and flowers and other greenery have been recovered, you must start the way for life by creating birds, animals, and at some point humans. Good and evil and then immorality is next, which sees you following the storyline like any other action adventure game completing quests and missions until you have to save life from self-destruction again as the human race and an evil alien/devil entity try to destroy that which you’ve created.
With amazing music to the magical ending sequence (one of the best endings of a game ever) it is a game world which just makes you want to experience it again and again and take on the struggle for life as it tries to survive against all odds. The saddest moments are when you lose the eventual ability to talk to the birds and animals and you are just communicating to humans only, as you travel through the ages of man.
This game never fails to satisfy and makes the gamer think about life in general and our understanding of it and the struggle of survival which creates the many inventions, works of art, and religions – from the human perspective of trying to understand our place in the universe. Well done to the developers for making this title and the other titles mentioned from this series, which are also worth checking out. Alucard

A reader looks back at the milestones that justified a new generation of consoles, from stereo sound on the SNES to Red Dead Redemption II.
There was a Hot Topic a few months ago about virtual reality games. I’ve yet to try VR but know it will be one of those moments that make me say: ‘This feels so next gen’. That sensation will probably become rarer as technology advances and we are provided with smaller technological gains but this prompted me to think about those milestone moments from my gaming past.
Game Boy
When I first saw adverts for the Nintendo Game Boy, I thought it was the most stupid idea ever! My young mind wasn’t paying attention to the ads properly and being used to things like Game & Watch and Tomytronic, I didn’t realise you could change the cartridge and thought that if you wanted to play a different game, you had to buy a whole new Game Boy with a different game inside for 80 quid! It wasn’t until my friend had one and showed me Tetris then switched to Super Mario Land that I saw how great it was and really wanted one.
The sound of the SNES
I didn’t have a NES but had played one a few times, so when I got my SNES I could instantly see how much better it was in comparison and spent many hours gaming away on a CRT TV, which I think only had mono speakers. One weekend I took the SNES round to a cousin’s house and she hooked it up to their family’s TV system which used multiple speakers.
I don’t know whether Super Mario World had surround sound but it certainly sounded like it and absolutely blew me away. We were in one of the cave levels and I was amazed as I could hear the water dripping and echoing in the background and other sound effects all around and it really did sound as if I was right there in the middle of the cave with Mario. And at that point the SNES felt really next gen to me.
Super Mario 64
I used to be a frequent visitor to Argos. I collected their catalogues and saved the games pages into a folder. Around the launch of Nintendo 64, I ventured in hoping to get a mini catalogue with all the details and games they’d have but low and behold, sitting by one of the pillars was a cabinet with a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64 loaded and a small queue of kids awaiting their turn to play it.
I joined the queue, having never been so excited in my life. Watching the others play, there looked to be a gentleman’s agreement that your go ended when you either got a star or died, then you had to pass it on. My turn arrived and running around that first level was so ground-breaking and I knew this was something that just could not be done on the SNES and felt really ground-breaking.
Burnout
I had played a few other games on the GameCube, which all looked fairly impressive compared to the previous generation of consoles. Through games magazines I already knew Burnout was also a fun and great looking game to play, with amazing photorealistic graphics (literally as they took actual photos and uploaded them as the scenery), but what made my jaw drop was the first time I played the starting level.
Right after the race begins, as you turn the first corner onto the main motorway and see everything ahead of you. I saw so many onscreen moving objects – the other cars and vans that weren’t just a backdrop; you could actually interact with (i.e. crash into) them. The GameCube was rendering all this without any slowdown and I knew this was not possible on the Nintendo 64, creating that ‘next gen moment’ feeling.
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
This was the very first game I played on the Xbox 360 and I knew very little about the Call Of Duty series beforehand. The first level at night, flying onto that ship and being led around was very exciting but it was the level Charlie Don’t Surf that felt truly next gen.
Sitting in the Apache helicopter, flying over that Arabian coastal town and being able to pan around the sky seeing all the other Apaches with you, then people start firing at you from the rooftops, then you land and proceed to make your way through the level you’ve just flown over – what blew my mind was that this was all one continuous live sequence. There were no cut scenes involved and no visible signs of any loading and I knew that this wasn’t possible on the GameCube.
Blu-ray
When Xbox One was announced and then released, I was one of those people who thought it was too early and that there was plenty of life left in the previous generation console. Apart from Battlefield 4, where you could have 64 players in a match on the new console compared to 24 on the old, I didn’t see any real reason for the new Xbox, it just had shinier graphics which alone I didn’t value.
Now, this may sound silly but one of the things that changed my mind was when looking up Wolfenstein: The New Order on Computer Exchange’s website and I saw that on Xbox 360, it was on four DVDs. Four DVDs! I couldn’t believe how large the game was that it needed four DVDs! I checked the Xbox One version which of course was just one Blu-ray and I realised the signs of the times.
Doing a bit of digging while writing this feature made me reflect on just how far we’ve come in terms of video game sizes and storage media:
On PlayStation 4, Red Dead Redemption II comes on two Blu-Rays and is about 100GB big.
Ignoring the technical infeasibility of the following:
If Red Dead Redemption II was an Xbox 360 game (its media being dual-layer DVDs with a max. capacity of around 9GB) it would require 12 DVDs. Halo Reach was 6.57GB.
If Red Dead Redemption II was a PlayStation game (its media being CDs with a max. capacity of 700MB) it would require 147 CDs. WipEout 3 was about 648MB and most of that was the audio files for the CD quality soundtrack.
If Red Dead Redemption II was a Nintendo 64 game (its media being ROM cartridges with a max capacity of 64MB) it would require 1,600 cartridges.
Super Mario 64 was only 8MB big!

Quake Champions – does the whole franchise need to be rebooted?
A reader is upset that Quake wasn’t mentioned at Quakecon and that it may end up being the only id Software shooter not to undergo a revival.
It was Quakecon last week and although there was plenty of celebrations centred around Doom, as well as Rage 2 and Wolfenstein, I couldn’t help noticing that one very obvious id Software game was missing: Quake. I don’t think it was even mentioned, even though that’s what the convention is named after. It’s a real shame, especially as Tim Willits is now leaving the company and he seemed to be the one pushing Quake Champions.
If you haven’t heard of Quake Champions it’s not surprising, but it’s a PC-only and multiplayer-only game that’s been perpetually in early access since 2017. It’s free-to-play and in my opinion is a really good arena shooter that takes the best of Quake III Arena and updates it for the modern age. It never seems to have taken off though and with Willits leaving I suspect it’ll be quietly mothballed, with no hope of a console release.
And when it’s gone probably all hope of a new Quake has gone too, as it doesn’t seem to be remembered nearly as fondly as Wolfenstein and Doom even though it was the first fully 3D shooter. Or at least the first massively successful one. Part of the problem I think, other than it was always primarily a PC thing, is that the series is all over the place in terms of the setting and lore.
The first game has a weird Lovecraftian atmosphere that’s kind of similar to Dark Souls. It doesn’t really have a story but there is a mix of single-player and multiplayer levels, even though the focus is on multiplayer. The second game though is primarily a single-player game with a dumb sci-fi plot that has nothing to do with the first one. Then third game is back to being multiplayer-only with no specific theme and the fourth, and by far the least, is single-player sci-fi again.
If it wasn’t for the name I don’t think anyone would realise they were supposed to be part of the same franchise, which is a bit of a problem when you’re trying to update them. For me it’s the first and third games that are the ‘real’ Quakes though and if they were going to revive it I would try and follow the template of the first game.
Have arena-based combat, that works pretty much like Quake Champions, but have a proper single-player story as well that has an actual plot and characters. I’d keep the Lovecraftian elements, not the generic sci-fi, and try and get back to the style and atmosphere of the first game, which was the most distinctive one of the four.
Originally Quake was supposed to have role-playing elements, that never made it into the final version, so I’d resurrect that idea and together with the unusual setting and exaggerated physics I think it’d make a really unique game. First person shooters aren’t as common as they used to be and hopefully Doom Eternal will prove there’s space for more, especially those that aren’t just military sims.
If Bethesda don’t make an effort soon though I think the number of people that remember or care about Quake will not be enough for it to be worth the bother and I think that will be a shame.

Cara and Ashley reportedly married in Las Vegas (Picture: GC Images)
Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson have reportedly married in a secret wedding ceremony in Las Vegas after more than a year of dating.
The couple are said to have tied the knot at the Little Vegas Chapel in Las Vegas Boulevard with an Elvis Presley impersonator doing the honours of marrying them.
It’s not known when the wedding reportedly took place but Cara, 26, and Ashley, 29, are said to have invited celebrity friends such as Sophie Turner, Charlize Theron and The Jonas Brothers.
Michael Kelly, who owns the Little Chapel, told The Sun On Sunday: ‘They were sure about what they are doing and they were sure about what they mean to each other.
‘They were clearly devoted to each other and they had the biggest smiles on their faces.
‘You could see that they were serious about what they were doing but having the most fun. They wanted it simple, quiet and easy.’
The happy couple reportedly posed for photos by a pink Cadillac moments after saying their vows. Model Cara and the Pretty Little Liars actress are said to have both worn black while Ashley opted for high heels and carried a bouquet.
The couple only went public with their romance in June (Picture: Getty Images)
It comes after the pair were pictured wearing what appeared to be matching wedding rings while on holiday in Saint-Tropez.
Fans speculated at the time that the couple married to celebrate Pride Month.
Cara and Ashley were first romantically linked back in May 2018 when they co-starred in punk-rock Her Smell.
In August 2018, Ashley remained coy about their relationship and told People: ‘I think it’s the best way in any relationship.
‘I’ve always been very private about them and I think it’s just better … I just kinda try to keep myself as private as possible.’
But she finally confirmed their romance in June 2018 after months of them being spotted at various red carpet events together, including Paris Fashion Week.
The supermodel told E! News of their decision to go public: ‘I don’t know (why now). Because it is Pride, it’s been 50 years since Stonewall happened.
‘I don’t know . . . it’s been just about our one-year anniversary so, why not?’
Metro.co.uk have contacted Cara and Ashley’s reps for comment.

Lady Colin Campbell is taking part in the next series of Celebs Go Dating (Picture: Getty)
Lady Colin Campbell has sprinkled some royalty on the Celebs Go Dating agency, as she joined Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson and Lauren Goodger to look for romance.
But the 69-year-old hasn’t got time to form bonds with her other famous faces – including Lee Ryan and Jack Fincham – as she’s just too busy.
Charming.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk about her fellow castmates, the I’m A Celebrity star told us: ‘I’m obviously not going to end up being close friends with any of them, but I liked them all and I’m very happy to see them.
‘Am I going to bond closely with them? My life is so full already, it’s really pretty full.
‘I’m much older than they are, number one, and number two, I am extremely busy. Because I have several careers, not just one. I have a castle to run, I have TV stuff that I’m doing. Each of those would be enough for one person.

‘I’m extremely busy. I’m very fortunate in having a lifetime of really great friends.’
We’re getting tired just reading all that.
Lady C’s dating life has been in the news for decades, having married Lord Colin Ivar Campbell back in March, 1974, after only having known him for five days.
But it wasn’t to last and they split less than a year later.
And this isn’t the first time the socialite has turned her hand to dating on TV, after looking for love on First Dates.
Lady C branded herself a ‘pussycat’ (Picture: Getty)
So what exactly is she looking for in her next partner?
‘Someone that has everything and wants to give it all to me,’ she joked. ‘I thought the agents came up trumps.’
But the socialite has a stern warning for anyone who tries to mess with her – she’s a total lioness when she needs to be.
‘I suppose I can be a pussycat but I’m also a lioness,’ she added. ‘I used to be very soft and sweet and obliging, but then I was pummelled left, right and centre.
‘So one learns, as one goes through life, to toughen up. I’m still soft and obliging, until someone tries to take advantage of me, then they realise I have a real good growl and a roar.’
We can’t wait to see her lioness come out…
Celebs Go Dating begins on Monday, at 9pm, on E4.

Maura admitted that she tried to get it on with the professional dancer a couple of times on the island, but Curtis turned her down at the time, insisting that they should wait until there are no cameras around.
Now they have finally done the deed…and he’s a ’10 out of 10′, according to the 28-year-old.
Maura told The Sun: ‘We’ve had a good time. Was he worth the wait? Definitely, 100 per cent.
‘I did try a few times in the villa, in the bedroom and on the outside bed.
‘I tried but I didn’t success. Curtis said that it was for me and him alone, and he didn’t want to do anything in there. And that’s absolutely fine.’
She added: ‘Actually I’m glad now that we waited, because it made it even more special.’
The couple placed fourth in the Love Island final (Picture: PA)
Maura and Curtis finished in fourth place in the final, with India and Ovie coming in third place and Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea beating runner-ups Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury to the crown.
The couple recently made a trip back to Ballymahon where he met with the Irish model’s family, getting a seal of approval from her mum Sharon.
Since returning to the UK, Maura has been tipped for I’m A Celebrity later this year.
She has also landed a fab job on This Morning as the show’s resident agony aunt.
And when she’s not dishing out some tough love to the nation, she will front a segment called Maura Than Meets The Eye, in which she will take on a series of challenges around the country. Go get ’em, girl.
